In this episode of The Unbroken Podcast, we dive into the difference between vulnerability and broadcasting—two behaviors that may look similar but come from very different places. Vulnerability is about authentic connection, courage, and emotional honesty, while broadcasting often stems from a need for validation, control, or attention. We explore how true vulnerability can strengthen relationships and build trust, whereas oversharing can lead to emotional exhaustion and disconnection.
We also offer practical ways to find balance—like asking yourself why you're sharing and whether you’ve fully processed the experience. We all say, “It’s fine,” but what does that really mean? In this episode, we explore the balance between acknowledging life’s struggles and still showing up. We break down why we use this phrase—whether as a coping mechanism or a shield—and when it helps versus when it holds us back. Through personal stories and practical insights, we discuss how to embrace imperfection, prioritize progress over perfection, and reframe “fine” as a sign of resilience rather than avoidance. Because sometimes, showing up—no matter how we feel—is enough.

In this episode of The Unbroken Podcast, we dive into the powerful mindset shift of running into the storm, just like a buffalo. When faced with adversity, most people tend to avoid or delay the inevitable, making their struggles last longer. We explore the psychology of avoidance, why discomfort is necessary for transformation, and how embracing the hard things in life actually shortens the struggle. While we touch on weight loss, this conversation is about something bigger—the mental toughness required to push through obstacles and come out stronger on the other side.

In this episode of the Unbroken Podcast, we're kicking it with Derek Hauseman, and trust me, it's a blast. Derek's journey is nothing short of inspiring – from a kid who loved sports but didn't have much cash, to making his mark by walking onto the Mizzou Tigers football team. Yeah, we're talking big-league, D1 football action!
But Derek's story takes a turn when he shares his dive into the CrossFit world. It wasn't just about getting fit; it was a whole transformation. Derek opens up about his weight loss journey, shedding light on how crucial it was in reshaping his life, both physically and mentally. It's real talk about the ups and downs and how sticking with it can lead to some pretty amazing places.
And CrossFit? It became way more than just workouts. It's where Derek found his crew, where the guy who used to stick to himself with his headphones in became the life of the gym. It's also where he met the love of his life – talk about a win-win!
We're keeping things light and fun, too, with plenty of laughs and a good dose of dad jokes, courtesy of Derek. So if you're up for a story about sports, transformation, community, and a little romance, you're in the right spot. Grab your headphones (or don't, Derek might have something to say about that), and let's get into it with Derek Hauseman.
Hey everyone, welcome back to the Unbroken Podcast! In this episode, we're hanging out with Anne Buchanan and her husband Tadd Buchanan, and let me tell you, it's one you don't want to miss. We kick things off with a chat about their son's awesome experience being part of his high school team's run to the state championship. It's all about the highs and lows, the teamwork, and the whole community getting behind them - really cool stuff.
Then, Anne gets real with us about her passion for helping others. She shares her journey from starting her own business with the aim to lift others up, to diving headfirst into her work with Convoy of Hope, a Christian nonprofit that's all about spreading hope and help worldwide. Anne's stories are not just inspiring; they're a call to action to make a difference wherever we can.
But that's not all. Anne also opens up about this women's group she's part of, which our own Melissa is a part of too. It's all about women supporting women, and the incredible things that can happen when we all come together.
Throughout the episode, Anne and Tadd drop some serious knowledge bombs, mixing in fun with some deep insights into life, giving back, and chasing what you're passionate about. This episode's got laughs, some touching moments, and a whole lot of inspiration. So tune in, get comfy, and let's dive into this amazing conversation with Anne and Tadd Buchanan.

In this emotionally charged episode of the Unbroken Podcast, we delve into the life and trials of Josh Mattes, whose journey in fitness is as inspiring as it is heartrending. From a young age, fitness was Josh's armor against the hardships of a difficult childhood, a means to ensure he was never vulnerable to harm. This drive for physical strength carried him through an active adolescence filled with sports, into the rigors of college ball, where his relentless 'full send' approach to fitness often meant playing through pain, leading to a series of injuries. Undeterred, Josh's search for a competitive outlet led him to CrossFit, where he excelled, finding both the challenge and the community he craved.
Josh's story takes a dramatic turn as he recounts making it to the CrossFit Games with his team, only to suffer a freak accident that resulted in immediate surgery, rendering him and his team unable to compete due to a technicality that has since been revised. The episode poignantly captures the solidarity of the CrossFit community as they rallied in support of Josh and his team, a testament to the bonds formed in the face of shared struggles. Despite the heartbreaking outcome, Josh's resilience and the community's response highlight the indomitable spirit at the heart of CrossFit.

Chris and James are talking about how to conquer the One Punch Man Challenge, cutting carbs, and the poisonous cycle of reward and punishment. They discover how consistency is key, and they once again talk about some pretty random things. Owls' eyeballs and how to "Simba" someone? What the heck?
#punchtheunbrokenman
In a previous weight loss episode, James and Chris discussed the limitation Chris has in portion size. He has no luxury of eating mega amounts of food to satisfy his appetite. So, they posed a question. If we only had six bites of food as a meal, what would we choose to eat? To answer their question, in this episode, they both planned a meal, one bite of an appetizer, one bite of an entree, and one bite of a dessert. They shared their meals, included their wives, and all had a roundtable discussion on each recipe. What bites would you choose?
Shocked when his doctor told him he weighed 445 pounds, Jason Wells knew he needed to change something. At first, his changes were small and vague, but he eventually developed his diet with the help of health and fitness expert John Gorman. Jason has struggled with gout, diet guilt, and embarrassing situations as an obese man, even loose skin stigmas after his almost 200-pound weight loss. Jason is now an Anytime Fitness business owner and a partner with Phat Muscle, helping many people with their health goals.
What do butterfly feet, turtle tears, One Punch Man, and New Year's resolutions have in common? Almost nothing! But, each of those topics and other random pop culture icons are discussed in this episode for your entertaining pleasure!
In all seriousness though, Chris and James talk about achieving goals (by using a few essential tools) based on their own personal experiences. Each has had their share of failures they learned from to give you the best tips for success. So tune in for some awesome insight and laughs along the way!
James and I are back at it. Talking about recognizing when you are weak and about to cheat on a diet. Also, talk about self-love and what that means to us.
Is it okay to be okay with being unhealthy. James talks about our ability to love ourselves. We also tease our "One Punch Man" challenge for the new year.
It has been over a year... And we needed to give an update on where we are at with our weight loss. So James and I sat down and give an update. We also talk about some Star Wars.
I've had weight loss surgery in July and am down 125 since the recording of this episode. Glad to be on the podcast train again. I hope you enjoy it!
Active military service. A tour in Afghanistan. Weightlifting. CrossFit. Weight loss. Rugby. Husband. Father. This is just a sample of what Tycus McCoy has experienced in his life, and he still lives day-to-day fearlessly taking on challenges and trying new things. And when he does, he goes all in. He would encourage you to do the same!
Episode 5-0!!! Dustin came on the show to shared his story of weight loss and setting his mind to reach a goal and doing whatever it takes to get to it. We talk about how he started doing Jiu Jitsu, to becoming a cop, to finding a coach that helped him lose weight to also become a K9 Officer, to finding Crossfit and then being one of the K9 officers on Live PD for Greene County. Awesome interview, amazing guy. Enjoy
Josh Keatts and Jon Reed come and hangout and we talk fitness, BBQ, and everything else in between. What started out as a chance for us to work out every Monday together turned into a lot more as our friendship grew. Enjoy this episode of the podcast.
This power house of a 14 year old is such an amazing person. It was fun to sit down and talk to her about her perspective of weightlifting and how it doesn't make you bulky. How she balances her training with being a teenager. Oh and she has two state and one national record in powerlifting.
If you look up the definition of true grit in the dictionary, there is a good chance you will see a picture of Cheyann. Do not tell her she can't do something, because she will prove you wrong.
Her whole life she has been shaming the haters and working her butt off to be one of the best in martial arts. Getting into the US Naval Academy and then becoming a marine. One of my favorite interviews to date!
Nicole is OG Crossfit. She has been involved with it for over 12 years. She had the opportunity to write updates for the CrossFit games page and live tweet during regionals. She is a lot of fun and is an open book. Went from struggling with weight to prepping for stage for a bikini contest.
Mike Lewis has an awesome story of his struggle to lose over 250 pounds. I have known him a few months after he started coming to CrossFit Republic and he has been inspiring and motivating others with is story of weight loss.
So good to have Laura on the podcast. She is the Executive Director of CASA of Southwest Missouri. We talked about CASA and what it is doing for kinds in Foster Care in Southwest Missouri. The Fitness community has really rallied behind CASA to do things like do the Go Blue Community WOD or the Lift Up A Child competition.
Please go check out CASA of Southwest Missouri facebook page to help they reach their goal of having 100% of kids in foster care in this area have a CASA to support and rock for these kids.

Back and Bigger Than Ever
Chris and James are back and getting back on track. We go over what we plan on doing with getting on track and getting this weight off.
James and Chris talking about weight loss. This episode was supposed to be released a month ago, but got hung up with my hosting service. Got it fixed.
Enjoy!
So good to have the Wistrom's on the podcast. Melissa and I have been facebook friends for a long time, we met at a CrossFit competition and got into a good conversation about mindset and we have been friends ever since.
Melissa has been to the CrossFit games on a team and as an individual masters athlete. She is an awesome athlete and such a nice person. Grant has played in the NFL for 9 seasons, with the Rams and the Seahawks. The are co-owners of CrossFit Springfield in Springfield Missouri.
We talk nutrition and their time at the CrossFit Games and Grant Playing in the NFL. Such a great conversation. So glad I got to talk with them and I can't wait to talk to them again.
Goals for 2019: 1 Get back the lean, athletic body I had before the accident. 2. Stop calling getting fat and out of shape "the accident."
We discuss this and Giraffe's
Talking about the struggle with trying to stay on plan and be motivated to work through the hard times of the weight loss process. Chris is not doing that great and talks about how he has quit in the past.
We talk about setting a firm foundation for weight loss, sometimes we get caught up in the macros or supplements before we really figure out how our focus should first start with sustainability and adherence.
We also talk about how Ron Perlman will always be Hellboy
4th episode of our weight loss series with James.
How important is drinking water and sleeping? We discuss the importance getting enough sleep and water when trying to shed the pounds.
First full episode of the Unbroken Podcast in a few years. So glad it was Kevin Inmon. We talk about Crossfit and the community. We talk about where he was in his life. Marriage all but over and how drinking, fighting and partying ruled his life. We talk about his rock bottom and how he turned his life around with the help of his family and his new found faith.
Kevin in now a pastor of a church called Word of Life SW MO in Marionville Missouri.
Please make sure you like and subscribe to the podcast!
We invited our wives onto the episode. Wifeisode! It was a pretty transparent discussion of weight loss and how loved ones are involved. Talk about fanny packs and how many NA NA NA NA's are in the old Batman theme song.
Chris just got home from his cruise and talk about the all the food on the boat. We discuss the why there isn't an obesity problem in Hogwarts. We also discuss our goals for the year and how we plan on achieving them.
This is the first episode with James Strathdee. James and I will be meeting weekly and discussing weight loss and our struggles to take the weight off. First weigh in Chris 330 and James 275.
I asked Lynn to be on the podcast right around when I started it. She has a really cool story of recovering from an eating disorder. We met at CrossFit during one of my first ever workouts in the class. I became friends with her and have been friends ever since.
I had just met Dallas during the podcast, and I was glad I got to talk with both Lynn and Dallas. We talked about nutrition and training and what it was like working together to overcome an eating disorder and develop a healthy relationship with food.
Lynn and Dallas both powerlift, and they have used those talents to help others through different organizations, like Relentless and Hope Kids.
I really enjoyed this podcast, and I hope you do as well!
Leslie Franklin was such an awesome interview. Especially for my 40th Episode! Loved getting to sit down and talk fitness, hard work, diet and about everything else.
What I loved about our conversation was how you could tell she cared about what she was doing and how she was passionate about helping people and passionate about her own goals. You can tell she loves what she does and loves helping those around her.
Loved talking about how she took the leap of faith and chased her dreams to be a trainer after she realized being trapped behind a desk wasn’t for her.
It was cool to talk about powerlifting and body building and what it takes to do both and how the mindset works while training for either.
We talked a lot about diet and getting your head right and “deciding your hard.”
Seth was a fun interview and was super glad I got to talk to him before he moved to Virginia. We talked about a lot of fun stuff!
We talked about his experience with going to the CrossFit Games the last two years. What it is like seeing the all stars of the sport and then competing with them to become their friends.
Seth did a lot of his training while in college alone in his garage.
There wasn’t a CrossFit where he was at, but it didn’t stop him from training
John Gorman is such a good guy! So much fun to talk to and has such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to weight loss. In his busy schedule, he took the time to sit down with me, and we talked a little bit about everything: weight loss, writing books, relationships, starting his business and working hard for your dreams.
We also talked about his son Jay’s new business, the Phat Muscle Project. Be on the lookout for his apparel company. I got myself one of his shirts, and they are awesome.
John has also just released his second book, “The Flexible Fat Loss Solution.” Find it on Amazon, or click HERE. When I posted this link, it was on sale for $14.27. Go get it! I am reading it now, and it has put a fire under me to get back after it and do it right.
Chris Baker was a fun podcast to record. We recorded this episode earlier in July but I have been a little out of pocket as of late and have just now got to post it. I apologize we have not had an episode every week for July. August will be better.
Chris Baker is a wellness coach for Cigna and is assigned to work with O’Reilly Auto Parts. This is where I work, so I have seen his post and comments at work through mail and newsletters and I know he would be a great guest on the show.
We talk about his background in fitness and his professional career. From playing professional soccer, to biking and Olympic weightlifting and to being a wellness coach. I had a lot of fun recording the episode with Chris!
This was a fun interview. Melody is a down-to-earth person who has some fun stories! She is a morning anchor for KSPR in Springfield Missouri. She has also lost over 50 pounds and managed to keep the weight off over a year.
Melody, like myself, does not like to run, but we both know the importance of doing it. She has found joy in doing triathlons. I love that she really doesn’t have a training plan that she follows; she just knows that she needs to do work and puts it in. It works for her, and it’s what keeps training fun.
After college, she gained weight. She was playing college basketball and ate whatever she wanted. Once she stopped playing, she kept eating and noticed a weight gain. With the help of a good friend, she was able to find the motivation to head to the gym and eat healthy.
Loved just sitting down and talking to a friend. Hope you all enjoy this episode of the podcast!
This episode of the Unbroken Podcast I interviewed Rob Bernet. I enjoyed talking to him and left the interview feeling like I made a new friend. Rob is a graphic designer as his day job but understands the benefit of exercising and bettering himself. I’d be more than happy to look like Rob at his age.
When Rob was just a kid, he was small and skinny but tried out for football and, in his words, was not very good. So him and a friend on the back of a comic book saw an ad for a bodybuilding guide.
They ordered it and over the next year they really put some work in and gained some serious size and strength. Rob found himself being on top of the players on the team the next year. He went from being picked on to people leaving him alone. That set the tone for the rest of life in aspects of fitness.
Rob found CrossFit back in 2007 when it was still fairly new. Just trying to figure out what to do with the workouts that were posted at crossfit.com. In 2011, he thought he tweaked his back, but turned out he had a staph infection in his spin that caused some of his vertebra to fuse together. He had a fight for his life and was told that he might not even be able to walk again. Against the odds and due to his great physical shape and help of pure determination on his part, he is again in the gym killing workouts. Rob even got 1st place in the Granite Games in the 50+ division in 2015!
This was a fun podcast. Seth is the owner of Axom Performance. He is a very down-to-earth guy, and you can tell he loves what he does. I loved talking shop with him on the ins and outs of running a business that sells and rents rigs.
I Learned a lot about what kind of need there is for rigs. Not only for CrossFit gyms, but also Seth has seen more of the traditional gyms wanting to purchase a rig. Schools and hospitals are also wanting rigs for their employees and students.
Axom Performance also rents out rigs for competitions, and there is such a big demand for it. A weekend off for Seth is rare, because he is bringing his rigs to competitions. He has met all kinds of people at those events.
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did recording it.
So grateful that Cara said yes when I asked her to be on the podcast. Such a cool interview. This has been one of my favorite episodes by far. Just hearing about some of the things she has overcome and her strength of will has inspired me so much.
Cara has lost over a hundred pounds and overcame cancer twice. We talked about how she had tried almost everything in the book to lose weight but nothing stuck. Then, she found out she had cancer. In her mind, she felt like her weight was the cause of the cancer. This put a fire under her to lose the weight. She has not looked back since.
Love the story she tells about how she decided to bike a 300-mile race across Missouri because she saw a Groupon. She had never done a race or even owned a bike at that time. Not only did she do the race, but she did it on a Walmart bike.
She has just finished chemotherapy and is waiting to hear if she is cancer free. As of the recording, she had not heard yet, but I have great news. She is in remission! Hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did recording it!
Tommy Barker was a blast to have on the podcast. He is super inspirational and an awesome guy. Loved getting to know him better. It’s not everyday you get to sit down with a ninja and talk shop!
Tommy owns two martial arts studios, Kicking It Martial Arts, and has been practicing it for over 30 years. We talk about how he went from being an angry kid and almost being sent to military school to thriving with martial arts.
I know Tommy through CrossFit Republic, and we talk about how applying the tools he has learned through mentors and his coaches in life has made him into a better person and coach. Every mentor and coach that he has had, either through martial arts or any other aspect of fitness, has made him into the person and coach he is today.
Ben Davis has been an inspiration to me for a long time. His video, My 120 Pound Journey, is what got me started down the path of health over 5 years ago. Seeing someone change his life and start running got my butt off the couch and moving.
Ben has taken another journey as of late. He started a walk across the United States in Los Angeles, and he will end in Boston July 23rd. When I interviewed him May 21, he was in Columbia Missouri. I was so excited to drive up to meet him and talk to him about his adventures. We talk about many things including some of the nights alone in the dessert with only Taylor Swift’s 1989 to keep him company and meeting all sorts of amazing people on his walk.
We talk about the struggle of weight loss and diet. Working out is the easy part for both of us; it is the eating right that is the hard part.
I loved getting to talk to Ben. He is a down-to-earth guy who lives for the moment. Little known fact… I can deadlift more than him…
Alissa was someone I have always looked up to in the CrossFit world. She is a great coach and super strong. She was a coach at the gym where I started CrossFit. One day, she was talking about rope climbs to the class, and I said to someone under my breath, “I will never be able to do that.” She whipped around and told me that she will get me there.
I was excited to talk to Alissa, because she just recently lost quite a bit of weight to compete in an Olympic weight lifting competition. We got to talk about the struggles of balancing strength with weight loss.
Alissa was a lot of fun to talk to. I hope you enjoy her episode as much as I did to record it.
I was really excited when Eric said he would be on the podcast. I have known Eric since I started running 5 years ago. He helped me buy my first real pair of running shoes at The Starting Block, and I have been his friend on Facebook ever since. I have been able to follow some of his story and training since then.
Eric is the store manager of Ultramax in Springfield, Missouri. We talk about why he started running and training. He realized he was a natural at running, and it was something he was good at. This eventually translated into a career after he saw a need for a store specializing in running in Springfield.
He has fit several thousands of people in new shoes since he started doing it, and in doing so, he has learned a lot and plans on writing a book on fitting people into shoes.
Eric was a blast to have on the podcast, and I learned a lot from him. I hope you enjoy it and learn a lot, too.
Part of the reason I love doing what I am doing now is that I get the opportunity to meet people like Jacob and Joe Hamby. They were just a really cool family of CrossFitters that I would see at local competitions. Me being who I am had to introduce myself to them and a quick friendship grew between me and the whole West Plains crew, especially the Hamby family.
So I had to sit down with these rock stars. Joe Hamby was one of the people who helped bring CrossFit to West Plains over 6 years ago. He brought his family along, and admitting at first, they really didn’t care for it. But over time, everyone came around to really loving the sport, and now it is something they all do together as a family.
Jacob has just turned 17 and is snatching and cleaning and jerking more than I have ever imagined. He is super strong and hitting numbers that people twice his age dream of. Very humble and mature for his age, too.
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did making it. So cool to see a father and son bonding over something they both love.
Had the opportunity to sit down with Jeremy Mhire at his gym at CrossFit Springfield a few weeks ago and talk for an hour about a little bit everything. Jeremy was my first CrossFit coach when I started three years ago. I got to ask him what he thought when seeing someone who was super sedentary change their lifestyle and try something like CrossFit.
Jeremy was in a boy band in the early 2000’s called Plus One! It was fun to talk to him about how he got that opportunity and how being in that band translates into his coaching today.
We also had the opportunity to talk about HOA, Heart Of America Competition, and how it came about. Started off really small at the local box and has grown into a major event in this region. We talk about the reasons behind Heart of America and how he discovered that his wife has a rare heart condition and almost died on the side of the road.
I really enjoyed talking to Jeremy about all things fitness and family. Hope you enjoy the podcast, and here is a video to enjoy from his boy band days!
Jeff swore off three things after he got out of the Marines. Running, camping and shooting. Now he does those three things more than ever, especially running. I met Jeff 5 years ago when I started running with Nixa Running, and now, we are both Idiots in the Idiots Running Club.
In the last 5 years, Jeff has gone from running a 5k and then his first marathon to running several ultra marathons. We talk a lot about how Jeff has learned to listen to his body and become a better runner.
After completing several marathons, Jeff also talks about how to look for the next challenge. Jeff has a wish list of really fun races that he wants to do that most people wouldn’t even imagine doing.
Loved this episode. Jeff is a great friend and great athlete.
Jessi was not always an athlete. She grew up playing music and was a music major playing the cello. Somehow, she found a love for theme park management and started perusing that career. She even learned how to drive a steam engine at Silver Dollar City. When she was interviewing for her dream job, she had a brain aneurysm.
We talk a lot about how she was one of the people who brought CrossFit to this area and how it has grown so much.
I got to drive to Branson Missouri to record this podcast with a friend, Justin Jones. We were able to sit in the back office of Crossfit Branson and talk about what he has been doing!
Justin and I met through local athletic competitions. We talk about how he started a few competitions in southwest Missouri. We also discuss his day in the life of a firefighter and how he became one.
Justin and his wife are driven by goals and have accomplished many things. They were the owners of CrossFit Branson but have since sold the business to some other members and then started a corporate wellness business. He also joined the Navy. We talk about how excited he is to serve his country.
I loved talking to Justin, and I hope you enjoy listening to this podcast episode!
This podcast was a lot of fun. Talking to a fellow Chris, you know it will be good! Chris is a chiropractor in Joplin Missouri at Carlson Chiropractic Center, and I took the opportunity to pick his brain regarding back health while trying to be healthy.
Love that he said that Crossfit has made him a better chiropractor. We talk about how sitting in chairs is killing us. We talk about how he gets the chance to help others with his love for fitness with his profession. We also talk about becoming a dad!
His is very passionate about fitness and helping others. I hope you all enjoy this podcast as much as I did recording it.
Owner of CrossFit Jomo in Joplin. We talked about the history of fitness in the Joplin area. Playing college football and training others after football ended.
Awesome guy and fun interview
So cool to have a mother daughter come together in their love for fitness. We talked a lot about how Shannon at age 12 decided to start doing CrossFit after spending so much time in childcare at different fitness locations while her mom was a professional body builder. S
Shannon is an amazing teenager. Siobhan has always strived to have fitness in her life.
Travis is a part owner of a gym called Honey Badger Gym. Anyone who has a gym named after the most bad ass animal on the planet has to be on the podcast.
We discuss how he found out he was type one diabetic at the age of 10 after feasting during Thanksgiving dinner.
Hordos Andras (Andrew) has been a listener from the beginning. He has been a great help and given feedback and advice since it started. I was excited to get him on the cast.
Andrew decided to start rowing a 5k everyday after a wrist injury. That quickly evolved into rowing 2 million meters in a single year.
Very excited to talk to Charity. He back ground includes teaching Body Pump classes to trying out Crossfit to going to regionals 3 times.
We talked nutrition and even pull her husband Keith (a bodybuilder) into the conversation.
Below is the original show notes from 2 years ago.
I am such a fan of Mallory. She is an amazing athlete and a fun person. She has always been an athlete. She started gymnastics at the age of 2 and has not looked back in regards to fitness.
We talk about fitness, playing sports, and starting CrossFit. It was fun to talk about Regionals and going to the CrossFit Games as a member of the CrossFit 417 team.
We discuss eating and nutrition and how that affected her in college and now as a CrossFit athlete. Mallory is pregnant right now! We talk about how being prego has affected her in the gym and how she is still in there getting after it! Hope you enjoy her episode.

I had the honor to interview my wife for this podcast. Not only is she a very good athlete in her own respect, but she has to put up with me and all my shenanigans.
We talk about her fitness background. How she went from a very competitive skater and figure skater to running marathons to coaching CrossFit.
We also talk about how hard it was for her living with someone who was depressed and eating all the time. It was really hard for her to see me at 348 pounds, wasting my life away playing video games and eating all the time. She is the love of my life.
The nicest person you will ever meet. She loves coaching and helping other people. I hope you enjoy her podcast. You can follow her on instagram at @strongmomrx

Ryan is a good friend of mine. We have been working out together for almost two years. I have managed to say a lot of dumb stuff around him, and he still keeps me as a friend! I tell the story of my first time talking to him and his wife. I am really surprised he even talked to me after!
Ryan is a recruiter for the National Guard, and I really wanted to talk to him regarding fitness in the military. Boot camp has always been something that has really intimidated me. I now know it is bad but not the terrible nightmare I always thought it was. Everyone comes out of basic training in amazing shape. We get to talk about what people do to stay fit after basic training, especially when you are just reserves. A lot of people turn to CrossFit and that is why we see a lot of people from the military involved with CrossFit

Hey, everybody! This is Chris Crosby with the Unbroken Podcast and proud owner of unbrokenpodcast.com. I am so freaking excited to have Randy Santel on my podcast this week. This guy can put down some food!
Just take a moment, and click on the link right HERE and watch some of his eating challenges. Boy, can he eat. But, he also knows a lot about fitness and weight loss.
Randy was athletic growing up and played football in college at Missouri State. In 2010, he won a body transformation contest through Men’s Health. To celebrate, he did a food challenge with his friend and won $500. He realized he was really good at this food eating thing and had been making videos of his challenges ever since.
Randy has over 360 food challenge wins and has no plans on stopping. Not only does he make these youtube videos, but he also owns Foodchallenges.com, and it is full of articles and tips on how to take on your own challenge OR create your own as a business owner. Hope you enjoy this episode of the Unbroken Podcast!

Sorry for the sound quality with this episode we recorded it in a Panera Bread
Sarah Mae was your typical “head to the gym and run on the treadmill and work on abs after” gym goer, until a few of the guys at the gym talked her into to lifting some weights. She has not looked back since.
Sarah Mae was so fun to talk to, and I loved asking questions about the power lifting and bodybuilding world. That is something I know a little about, but it was really cool talking to someone who has been so involved and good at both. I also loved how she talked about the people she surrounded herself with to get to where she is now.
Make sure you follow her on social media, because she is going places. Hope you enjoy her podcast! It was a lot of fun talking to her at Panera Bread while she was visiting family for the weekend.
Episode was first released Jan 12 2016.
Below is the orgional show notes from 2 years ago. Sorry for the sound quality with this episode.
Today’s Unbroken Podcast was a lot of fun. Brenton Roggow is the kind of guy you want to have as a friend. We talk about his background playing football growing up and playing for Evangel University in Springfield Missouri.
Now, he is the strength and conditioning and Wide Receiver coach for Evangel. We also get to talk about how he got involved in commentating events in the CrossFit and fitness competition world. He has lots of cool stories about how he gets to travel around and be a part of some really cool events and make friends from all over the US.
Brenton is a down-to-earth guy that strives to put others before himself, and you can tell he loves what he does, whether it’s coaching moms in a CrossFit class or coaching college football players.
Episode was first released Jan 6 2016.
Below is the orgional show notes from 2 years ago.
Joe Williams is a good friend of mine and has been one of my coaches and mentors for almost 3 years. I was very excited to talk to him and had a lot of fun recording this episode.
We talk about what got him started on CrossFit after not finding the results he read about in fitness magazines and videos he watched on the Internet. The opportunity to open his own gym and start coaching transitioned to being a big part of Power and Grace Performance and working with some of the best CrossFitters and weightlifters in the world.
Joe is a wealth of knowledge. His day job is teaching college classes about the human body. He takes the things he has learned as a teacher and applies them to his coaching.
Episode was first released Dec 30 2015.
Sorry for the sound quality of this episode. I know it wasn't the best. But Jessica was an awesome interview.
Since this interview 2 years ago, she has gone to the games 2 more times. Once with the CrossFit 417 team and again as an individual.
Below is the orgional show notes from 2 years ago. For today’s podcast, I interviewed Jessica Griffith.
I met Jessica two years ago when she competed in her first ever CrossFit competition. She cracked me up back in the athlete staging area, and we became friends through the awesome CrossFit community.
I have watched Jessica grow into an amazing athlete. She went from her first competition two years ago to competing in the CrossFit Games this year on a team. You can tell she loves this sport and how it has changed her physically and mentally.
We talk about going to the dark place in a workout and how she goes to that place every workout at this point in her career. She saw what other Games athletes do to be the best, and it has driven her to work just as hard.
Episode was first released Dec 16 2015. And is one of my most listened to interviews.
Sorry for the sound quality of this episode. I know it was bad.
I was able to drive up to Columbia, Missouri and meet with two amazing athletes Dylan Kelly and Patrick “Paddy” O’Hara.
Sorry for the sound quality of this episode.
I know it was bad. I had the privilege to drive to Peoria, IL to meet Mekenzie Riley at CrossFit 309 and hangout and talk fitness. I met Mekenzie a year ago at a competition hosted in Ozark, Missouri called Ozark Mountain Shredfest, and she was awesome. She added me as a friend on Facebook and offered to help me with my quest to lose weight. We have stayed friends ever since.
Mekenzie is a lifestyle coach and registered dietitian. She has her own business as well, Real Results Nutrition Consulting. Not only does she talk the talk, but she walks the walk. She is an amazing CrossFit athlete and competes with the best. She placed 3rd in her district in the last CrossFit Games Open.
We talk about how she started CrossFit and how it helped her change the way she approached her own nutrition. Now, she wants to share that knowledge with others. Her team has some big plans for this next Games season. We talk training and what it is like to work together as a team.
Episode was first released Dec 2015. Since the recording, she has been back to the games two times. Once again with a team and then 2017 as an individual.
You can tell Jordan is really passionate about what he does. He loves helping others find CrossFit and fitness. Even though he competes at a very high level, he takes the time to train athletes at all levels, and it shows by the growth of his gym.
If it was the end of the world or the zombies were here, Sherdian is the person you would want with you. He knows a little about everything and always has a good story to go with it. He has 29 professional kickboxing and boxing fights under his belt.
Sheridan is no stranger to hard work.
Running is mental, and all runners are crazy. Today's podcast is with James Pettit. We talk about how important endurance is for a person's fitness. On today's episode of the Unbroken Podcast we talk to Ashley Humphries. On Facebook before we even started my podcast, I made a post about my own fight with my eating disorder of binge eating. She reached out to me afterwords in a private message and thanked me for sharing my story and then shared part of hers with me. I knew we had to have her on the Podcast.
On this episode of the Unbroken Podcast, I talk to Dylan Harris. Dylan has been my nutrition coach for 8 months, and I have lost a lot of weight working with him. We discuss working with a trainer for your fitness goals. We talk about how Dylan went from playing college baseball to bodybuilding and now CrossFit.
We also talk about how sick he got last year and discuss what kind of toll it took on his body, going through surgery and then recovery.
This is the first podcast I have ever recorded, and Macy Mitchell was awesome enough to let me figure out how to even do this thing with him. I felt really nervous at the start, but now I feel like I settled into the interview after saying “like” a thousand times.
Macy is a very busy person, but you can tell his family is always number one for him.
First ever episode of the Unbroken Podcast. In this episode we talk with Raymond and Robert Delgado. They were participants on Season 5 of Extreme Weight Loss with Chris and Heidi Powell. Over the year they were on the show, they lost 342 pounds combined.
