After a month and a half hiatus, WIYF is back discussing protest photography. Local communties both in the United States and around the world have been holding protests for the Black Lives Matter movement, seeking justice for many of the Black lives murdered and calling for police reform.
This episode dives deep into the debate of to blur protester faces or to not blur, discovering your own personal code of ethics as it intersects with the photojournalism code of ethics, knowing your rights both as a protester and as a photographer, and some great tips in regards to safety and planning ahead when attending a protest. What are your reasons for attending a protest? How do those reasonings intersect with photographing an event?
This episode is not offering legal advice of any kind on any of the topics discussed.

Scott Butner is considered by many as a Tri-Cities creative staple. Many know him for his technical shots of weather and storm landscapes and incredible eye for portrait photography. Scott takes us on his life journey through the lens of his cameras and experiences including his early years working with film, working for the Seattle Seahawks as a team photographer, and how his 25 year hiatus from photography impacted his career as a photographer today.
