Thanks For Coming - a podcast about cricket: Recent Episodes

The Greatest Cricket Club In The World

Thanks for Coming (TFC) is a podcast loosely based on cricket and everything that goes with it.

Those long two-hour commutes to an away day to bowl two overs and not be needed with the bat, another TFC in the books, but the sun’s shining and you’re having some beers with some blokes you kind of like from time to time, and life doesn’t feel all that bad.

If that sounds like your kind of summer, then you’ve found the right podcast.

Our hosts have both experienced a TFC or two in their time, but can now be found opening the bowling in the Surrey Premier League for rising stars Ploughmans CC.

You’ve made it to October. Winter nets that were once a thing of the distant past are now the near future. In between have been six months of sunshine to be spent however you best wished.

For some it meant heading out to Plough the fields of London and it’s surrounding counties alongside their friends, representing the Greatest Cricket Club in the World.

Our hosts are joined tonight by a man that stands shoulders above the rest in his devotion to upholding an ethos that makes all of that happen. He discusses his take on what keeps a cricket club strong for 40 years gone and 40 years to come; including Mankads, soap dodging and boundary patrolling.

From all of us at Thanks For Coming, we want to Thank You For Coming and listening, engaging and making this community even better. We hopefully do this through our TFC Awards, correspondence and features.

If you want to get involved with Thanks For Coming in future seasons then please do get in touch on hello@ploughmanscc.com.

They also run through all the usual items alongside the obligatory banal chit chat and, not wanting to be outshone by previous hosts’ efforts, provide another new segment for the show and even throw in a quick quiz for our guests and listeners.

Thanks for Coming to our podcast, it’s our little safe space where every week us and a couple of our mates get together and talk loosely about cricket at the World’s Greatest Cricket Club.

This week both of our traditional hosts have taken a break leaving the podcast in the questionable hands of the club’s best looking change bowlers. Joining them are bowling all-rounders, The Crane and The Rodent.

As the season draws to an end, three Ploughmans teams littered themselves across Surrey and Kent for some entertaining village cricket.

We hope you enjoy the episode and enjoy as much cricket as you can while the sun’s still out for the year.

Thanks for Coming to the best club in Surrey’s Cricket League. This podcast is for the players, the friends, family and loved ones - as well as the strangers, the opposition, and the could-bes.

This week, our ever present Liam is joined by his better co-host Spence for a whopping instalment of Thanks For Coming. The lads are joined by not two, but three top blokes, all of which are quite good at cricket.

This podcast reeks of runs, with all of our guests hitting tons at the weekend, but one was actually against us, and did he kiss the badge? We saw many legends made before our eyes from the Coach Captain to the Bookmaker’s Purse, and in true Ploughmans’ style won the Wiltshire series 3-1.

Our host is joined by a tour veteran, a tour specialist and a tour enthusiast to talk you through the events which they can best remember.

Thanks For Coming to Ploughmans Cricket Club, the greatest cricket club in the world on and off the pitch.

Formed in 1982 by a group of friends in a pub, Ploughmans has carried the same values through every over, game and season - a group of friends who enjoy each other’s company and also happen to play cricket.

The club consists of players of all backgrounds, occupations and varying levels of humour and is a safe space for anyone looking for a way to spend their weekends.

With games all over London and surrounding counties, and tours across Europe and further, Ploughmans has played and continues to play at some of the loveliest grounds around (as well as some of the less so).

Its committee are the heart of the club’s ethos, several friends who have attempted to grow up and may even grow old volunteering their time to provide as much cricket as possible for anyone who wants to play.

On this episode we hear from each of them about their time at the club and the journey that’s been taken from a pub team to the Premier League.

This is Ploughmans Cricket Club, Thanks For Coming.

Thanks for Coming to the greatest podcast in the world produced by the Greatest Cricket Club in the World.

In this week’s episode we mark a few club records being broken; Ploughmans put out 5 sides for the first time in history, the 9th-wicket partnership is smashed, and we see one South African thump himself into the history books with the club’s second-highest batting score.

Said Saffer should also be expecting an invoice for damage after rocketing a ball back over the bowler’s head and through (yes, through) the wooden sight screen - leaving a nice cricket ball sized hole for the rest of his innings.

Our return to league cricket saw a nail biting finish as a hail-affected chase came down to needing a six off the final ball. We enjoyed it so much we did it all again the next day, this time role reversing with the oppo needing six to win off the last delivery.

The high scoring games meant a high scoring week in the Fantasy Cricket League with the club captain cashing in on his triple captain chip and left our own Podcast Producer sitting comfortably at the top of the table.

Also, a big Thanks For Coming to our first official members of the 2021 season - the boys are already making waves in the stats and the socials.

Hello and Thanks For Coming to the latest podcast from what is arguably the Greatest Cricket Club in the World.

We hear of a new recruit’s 50 on debut, and celebrate the most relaxed man in cricket bringing up his first 100 for the club by hitting a six.

And, as the first team get to grips with a golfing warm-up routine, could this weekend have reached peak Village cricket? We play with plastic stumps, change wickets half way through an innings and start with an unknown fielder who only realises he’s at the wrong ground after the first wicket.
