Sometimes, people drift from God because of what the choose to pursue and other times the drift because they fail to move. This week we’re going to look at a man who’d been paralyzed by his problems, but how radical obedience to Jesus helps us live with purpose and freedom.”
This week Frank brings us a message about how some people can be quick to judge others’ sins but forget that they are just as guilty as anyone else. This week scripture shows both parties a way out though through Jesus.
“What causes people to become so angry that they act out in extreme ways? It’s likely not an isolated incident or two, but more likely the accumulation of many. You’ll never be so spiritual that you won’t become angry, but knowing how to deal with anger well is important. We can’t hold on to our anger or the devil will use it to ruin or relationship with God and others.”
Over the past few weeks we've heard about how life can be an emotional rollercoaster. In week two of this summer series we'll see how our willingness to be vulnerable with others can spare us untold amounts of heart ache and frustration.
“Life can be full of up’s and down’s. Some seasons are frustrating and can leave us totally worn out. The Old Testament prophet Isaiah could definitely relate to this feeling of utter exhaustion. At one point he was so fed up and tired that he wanted to just go off and die. When we find ourselves in similar situations God’s word has insight and hope to offer us.”
In the final message of the Strange Things series Webby tackles one of the toughest things Jesus ever said… "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” This was no easier to hear and put into practice in the first century as it is today. So, why is this important and how is it actually done?
“Jesus said some crazy things, but what was he thinking when he said that if we don’t hate our families we can’t be his disciples? Was Jesus being grouchy? Was he hangry? What would cause him to say something so extreme?”
“Jesus said some strange things throughout his ministry. He did this to tweak our thinking on all kinds of issues. Religion without heart mind and soul isn’t enough to get someone to heaven. According to Jesus not everyone who calls him ‘Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. There must be good fruit in the life of every disciple.”
“Sometimes the words of Jesus have a way of boggling the mind. Throughout his ministry, Jesus said some very strange things, and in this series we will look at a few of these sayings. One day Jesus was asked how to get to heaven and he responded, “Sell your stuff.” What’s the connection? How do our possessions relate to our eternal dwelling? Would you be willing to give up your stuff in pursuit of a deeper relationship with Jesus?”
“Apollos was a passionate follower of Jesus, but like all of us had obstacles to overcome. His love for God motivated him to share his faith with others even though he didn’t have the information. Apollos was also humble and willing to learn from other disciples who were further along in their faith. Because of Apollos great fervor for Jesus and his humility he had a great impact on the people he served."
As the gap between the church and the world grows, we become more like the church in Acts. So how should Christians engage with the culture
“In the book of Acts we see great numbers of people coming to Jesus through the Apostle’s teachings. Even today, people living in third-world countries will travel hours from their homes just to hear the Gospel. God’s word working with God’s Spirit in God’s people can change the course of history. How can we turn more people living in America to Jesus? What kid of efforts will the hand of the Lord bless?"
“In life we often find that our expectations often don’t match up with reality. Many Christians living today expect that following Jesus equates to a carefree life where things always fall your way. What we see in the Scriptures, however, reveals that expectation to be off the mark. In fact, Jesus said that students are not greater than their masters and if the master is persecuted the student should expect the same. In Acts chapter 8 we see the fulfillment of a command made years earlier in Acts chapter 1, but this fulfillment required an unexpected plot-twist.”
“Stephen was used by God to reach people for Jesus. He didn’t wait around for someone else to serve, he used his God given abilities to magnify the name of Jesus. God’s Spirit empowers Jesus’ followers today to spread the Gospel and advance the Kingdom of Heaven."
“It is appropriate and wise to have a reverent fear of God. After all, He dwarfs the created universe and His thoughts are far beyond our own. Great fear swept throughout the early church after an incident in which God’s people willfully chose to live in a way that dishonored and disrespected His holy name. We can not serve two masters, and the followers of Jesus must continually choose to honor him by the way they live.”
“In the Gospels Jesus cleared the temple and drove out the money changers with boldness. Throughout the New Testament Jesus' followers stood boldly before of rulers, courts, and authorities. Peter and John are perfect examples of God's Spirt powerfully working in God’s people in a way that led to GREAT boldness. Today, we’ll see that Jesus’ followers can’t hide their faith and seek to make disciples. When God’s people lean into His power they are able to live with boldness and accomplish His mission.”
"We all have things that unsettle us and drive us to action. The problem is we don’t always react in the most appropriate way and sometimes our actions can have a detrimental effect. The name of Jesus greatly disturbed the religious leaders of his day, but it inspired his followers. Jesus lead both groups to act. When the followers of Jesus stand for him in the face of fear and uncertainty they have the opportunity to show the world around them the REAL Jesus is really like.”
“For the disciples the initial scene on the first Easter morning was a somber one. Jesus' first followers rushed to the tomb only to find his body was missing. However, by the end of the day everything had changed. We’ve all had seasons of fear and frustration. Most everyone has had circumstances that left them feeling hopeless, but the lesson to be learned from Easter is Jesus brings hope to the hopeless by making sense of a senseless world.”
“There is only one God, and he loves us. He loves us so much, in fact, that He willing bore the consequences of our sins. As we conclude this series on forgiveness we will spend some time probing the depths of God’s forgiveness and its implications on our lives.”
“Sometimes we can forget about important things even though they are valuable to us. We’ve all forgotten where we’ve placed our glasses or our keys at one time or another. As followers of Jesus we are also likely to forget that we’ve been forgiven of our sins and we are allowed to forgive ourselves. When this happens we stop living in the present because we’ve become paralyzed by our past. Forgiveness is valuable, and Jesus followers need to remember to forgive themselves as completely as Jesus has forgiven them.”
“When we store up resentment and hold on to the wrongs committed against us we hurt ourselves and those closest to us. Forgiveness is one of the major themes of Christianity, and if there was no forgiveness we wouldn’t be able to follow Jesus. Today, we’ll explore how we work through the sadness and scars that we accumulate so that we can begin to forgive like Jesus forgave.”
Saying, “I'm sorry," can be tough. It can be just as tough to say, “You’re forgiven.” Forgiving others might be one of the most challenging things we do, especially in light of the very real feelings of hurt and betrayal that we sometimes experience. But the fact is forgiven people forgive like Jesus forgave. So, how can the followers of Jesus do this very difficult task of extending forgiveness to others? The truth is, the power to forgive is generally not something we possess on our own but comes from the Holy Spirit
“There is a misconception that if couples will focus on their marriage or their family then all will be well. This is simply not the case. Humans were never intended to be the centerpiece of marriage. That special place is set aside for God, and couples who focus on pleasing Him by accomplishing His mission through their marriage find themselves falling more and more in love with one another.”
"Our marriages should be appealing to those around us because our marriages are a snapshot of our relationship with Jesus. Not only that, Jesus modeled for believers the qualities necessary to live a Godly life and have an amazing marriage. “As we attempt to get 1% better every day what we’ll probably find is change can be hard. Generally, our good intentions are thwarted and derailed by two factors. One, we don’t have a good system of improvement in place. And two, our changes are not connected to our preferred identity- the person we which to become. Today we’ll explore the fact that lasting change must be connected to our identity, and ultimately our hearts.”

Jesus family full tree is of people who didn’t always make the best decisions and didn’t have the best pedigree. Luckily for us, God includes people like Ruth in His plan and in His family. Belonging to the family of God is not about how good we can be but how great Jesus is.
“If there’s anything that the Christmas season reminds us of it is family can be messy. Every family tree has a few misfits in it, and Jesus’ family tree is no different. His lineage is made up of all kinds of foolish, shady, half-baked, hard to love people. As we jump into the Christmas season it is important to remember that belonging to God’s family has never been about our merits or what we bring to the relationship, but rather what Jesus has done for us.”
2020 has been a tough year for many people. COVID-19 has impacted our lives in countless ways, and lots of folks are counting down the days to 2021. They are hoping that a new year will give them a chance at a fresh start. At Lincoln Hills we are blessed, and we should be thankful. In spite of the unprecedented times we find ourselves in God has shown up, He’s protected us, and provided for us at every turn. That’s the state of our church, and we should be thankful.
“If the followers of Jesus are going to live under God rather than under the influence of our culture we must do so full of grace and truth. This is how Jesus lived, after all. Jesus crossed cultural lines to draw people closer to God. He called out sin while still loving and pursuing sinful people."

Worship is about more than showing up to the church building for a couple of hours during the week, and singing a few of your favorite songs. Worship is a lifestyle that the followers of Jesus live on a daily basis from the inside out. In this three-part series we’ll explore how to worship in a way that God is actually glorified and His followers are transformed to look more like Him.
Having spent the last several weeks unpacking what it looks like to be alive; to have real life-- some might feel discouraged about where they find themselves. Perhaps they don’t have a faith that’s producing fruit. Maybe they never really gave the reigns of their life over to Jesus. Whatever the case might be our situation is not hopeless. Because of Jesus we have the hope of living again. Nothing is too dead for the God of the universe to breath life into.
When we don’t “die well” and subsequently hand control of our lives over to Jesus we will end up rotten. Our lives may look good on the outside, but on the inside we’ll begin to waste away. Such was the case for some of the most religious people of Jesus' day. They looked great on the outside, but on the inside… not so much. In this message we’ll see that a genuine, living faith produces fruit. Additionally, we’ll see the consequences of a life that is fruitless.
"Many Christians recognize that they need to die to themselves in order to follow Jesus. However, somewhere in this process they mistakenly conclude they get to determine what this looks like; they get to pick the scope of their sacrifice and the depth of their death. This simply isn’t the case. If we are to die well, we must allow the New Testament to be our guide above all else."
Do you want to live? Real life is found when we die to ourselves. We can’t fake it or pretend. Our dead way of living has to be put to death and buried or it will eventually kills us.
What does it mean to be alive? What does it mean to have life? Most people don’t spend much time considering questions like this because they are just too busy. Unfortunately, because many people never consider what it means to really be alive they run the risk of never really living. In this series we will unpack what the Scriptures tell us real life actually is, and how we can experience it.
This week as we conclude our look in the book of 1 Peter we’ll hear the most encouraging news you never wanted to hear. Followers of Jesus can’t exchange eternal victory for temporary peace. They must be willing to stand out and look different.

Jesus gave everything thing for humanity. He held nothing back on his mission to redeem mankind. As his followers, we should imitate his example of selflessness and sacrifice as we seek to advance God’s Kingdom.
This fifth Sunday message is given by our Children’s Minister, Kegan Livers. In it we will see that Jesus wants us to be like little children in regard to our faith; child-like not childish. To have child-like faith we must humbly trust that God will provide for our needs and refuse to worry about things that are out of our control.
Jesus is for everyone, and not just the people you’d expect. Jesus was for the kind of people you’d never expect him to be for. If we begin to treat people the way that Jesus did and see them the way he saw them we will make disciples who make disciples who make disciples.
Jesus loved God’s word. He leaned on it throughout his life and ministry. Jesus was Biblically sound, but many of his followers today are not. If we are going to make disciples who make disciples we must digest God’s word daily.
Jesus was focused. He didn’t walk around with his head in the sand. He wasn’t so preoccupied with where he was going that he failed notice the people along the way. He was deliberate, he took his time, and touched people when a word of healing or glance of divine power would do. Why? Because Jesus was on a mission to connect people to his heavenly Father.
In today’s message we’ll hear Jesus say some pretty challenging stuff. “The Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” “Let the dead bury their own dead.” What is he getting at? Why would he say such hard things and what does it mean for us 2,000 years later. Make no mistake, Jesus' coming initiated a crisis that we must all face. Are we following Jesus because he’s our King, or are we stuck in our same old habits and routines?
As we conclude the Red Line sermon series we’ll see how Jesus restores the relationship between God and mankind that was fractured in the Garden. Jesus fulfills the Old Testament’s promises made to Abraham, and offers a LAW superior to the one given through Moses; love God and love others.
The Red Line has a bottom line… make disciples. The LAW that God gave Moses was good for a season, but it was only a shadow of what was to come. The LAW proved how much we all need God and how far from Him we’ve strayed. We were not made to make the journey back alone, but rather invite others along. In this message we’ll look at a few of the “Let us” statements from the book of Hebrews and how they might assist us in making disciples of Jesus.
"Today, we’ll be looking at God’s promise to redeem humanity and bless the world through the offspring of a man named Abraham. However, it isn’t long after making this promise to Abraham that God puts his faith to the test by putting the promise in jeopardy. What we’ll see is this message is that God can be trusted to do exactly what He promises in His Word. This proved true for Abraham and will prove true for us as well.”
The Fall
From the very beginning God has pursued his people to restore the fractured relationship between Him and His creation. The Red Line is the thread that runs through human history reminding us of such a pursuit. It began in the Garden of Eden and includes us as well. Our enemy, the Serpent, duped our first parents into questioning the authenticity of God’s word and he does the same to us today. But rather than call us by our sin our Heavenly Father calls us by our name.
What was Jesus’s pattern for making disciples? Jesus established a new kind of family by inviting those around him into his life. His invitation changed their lives and can change ours, too.
The Bible contains lots of information about the attributes of God; His love, patience, mercy, and kindness. But what does it have to say about God, Himself?
God is a family on mission.
