Simeon & Alex present two different views on what the Bible teaches about the people of Israel and the land of Israel (in a slightly more structured InFormed episode than usual!) In this podcast, we stick to questions of Biblical interpretation rather than getting into history, politics, etc., so nothing we say should be seen as a comment on specific current or past geopolitical events. Whatever view we hold, our attitude towards all people in the Middle East should be one of love, compassion when they are suffering, and a desire that they find salvation in Christ.Scripture quotations from the NIV.

Many people believe that evolutionary science undermines important aspects of the Christian faith. Science, it is claimed, has explained God away, and belief in the Bible is incompatible with modern understanding. In this talk, we’ll take hold of those thorny questions that cause scientists to dismiss the Bible and see why many people see no conflict between Christianity and Darwin’s revolutionary theory.-----Matt is a PhD student in the Divinity Faculty at the University of Cambridge. His thesis considers the implications of evolutionary theory for the Christian understanding of the soul and its creation. He’s also an associate lecturer at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. He didn’t grow up as a Christian and had very little interest in science until his conversion during university. He hadn’t expected that becoming a believer would spark a personal intellectual revolution, but it did, and since then, he has been known to get very excited about general relativity, mycorrhizal networks, and cultural evolution.
Science has become so loaded with cultural baggage, it’s easy to feel that it’s incompatible with belief in God. The reality is that science – as taught in our schools and universities – is not just compatible with, but can enhance, the experience of faith. Dr Ruth has a background in genetics and developmental biology, and is now Church Engagement Director at the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion. She is also a writer, a theology student and an explorer of the Cambridgeshire waterways by paddleboard.
