We’ve all had a moment in conversation where we’ve told someone “don’t get me started” whether it be a topic that gets you excited, frustrated, or something you’ve just learnt way too much about you have to warn them you have a lot to say. The Get Me Started Podcast is all about delving into those conversations and not stopping ourselves from talking about the things which we genuinely have a passion for discussing.
In the third episode of our miniseries ‘Tough Talks’ Thea + Claire discuss the most underrated heartbreak: friendship breakups and breakdowns. Join us for a sad girl (not mad girl) episode, in which we discuss the lack of space given in society to grieve the loss of friendships.
We talk about accountability, self-awareness, and when it might be time to let a friendship go. We ask ourselves some tough questions: Imagine if we entered friendships in the same way that we do romantic relationships? When friends are the family you choose, how do you reconcile with it when they are no longer in your life?
An enlightening episode that challenged us to confront our internal monologues and communicate with the people who we hold nearest to us. With a positive spin to a painful topic, we encourage our listeners to nourish their friendships, have gratitude, and live presently within platonic relationships.
Tough Talks is a miniseries of the GMS podcast. Thea + Claire will be delving into the conversations which are hard to have. Coming to you cross-continentally, we can promise vulnerability and an air of pretending to know what we are talking about when we’re actually the people who need the advice. Our aim is to speak openly about topics many of us shy away from for fear of being wrong.
Disclaimer: We want to reiterate that we are not professionals; take what we have to say with a grain of salt (especially the ‘our unsolicited advice that we should listen to ourselves’ section). We are two young women with certain lived experiences, but acknowledge that our experience does not account for that experienced by everyone. It is vitally important to us that we acknowledge our privilege in having the ability to speak about certain issues. As always, these are complex and nuanced issues that are multifaceted in every respect. If you are struggling, we encourage you to seek advice from a health professional.

In the second episode of our miniseries ‘Tough Talks’ Thea + Claire are tackling one of the most pertinent issues of our generation: existential dread. Join us as we get vulnerable about the tail spin period of life that is your late 20’s.
We examine the ‘quarter life crisis’ and the astrological concept of Saturn Return to highlight just how complicated your 20’s really is. How do we escape the grip of comparison when it is stealing our joy? What is passion and how do you find it? How do you know that you are, really, living for yourself? How do you stop yourself from becoming your own worst enemy? Join us as we stumble our way through these questions, sharing some all too personal anecdotes to try and make sense of it all.

Navigating the wonderful world of forums and fan clubs Dimi comes on the podcast to talk through his experiences balancing socialising, online spaces, and the growing trend of polarisation. Why has it become increasingly common that spaces once dedicated to hobbies and relaxation have become areas in which hostile debate has thrived? Where is the line between necessary critique and intruding on escapist enjoyment? When are we the ones perpetrating this discomfort? And what should we be doing to fix it? Dimi talks us through trains, debating, and music choices which might not seem immediately connected but all feature a common thread.

In this weeks episode of Get Me Started we discuss the ins and outs of Myers Briggs, Thea opens up about recovery from a brain injury, and we talk about the impact of the five love languages on our friendships. At the end of the day whether you prescribe to the "science" behind these kinds of identifying tests or not Thea makes a strong case for their validity in helping ground your empathy and self reflection just a bit better.
