In Part 2 of this powerful conversation, Britt Achterhoff goes even deeper into the life experiences that shaped her personal and professional path. She opens up about one of the most difficult periods of her life—tearing her ACL while her father was terminally ill and struggling academically due to undiagnosed ADHD. Through all of this, one person stood solid in her corner: her strength coach, Dennis “D Love” Love. Britt credits him with not only giving her a place to belong, but also with showing her what leadership, mentorship, and care truly look like. That pivotal support became the root of her passion for the industry and her mission to make an impact beyond equipment sales.
Britt also reflects on how her experiences—from student leadership to moments of being the only woman in high-level performance meetings—have uniquely positioned her to lead from a place of empathy and real-world perspective. She discusses her “existential career crisis” after becoming a mom of two, and how that inspired her to create professional development conversations for coaches that center on real life—not just sets and reps. This episode is a raw reminder that what happens off the field or outside the weight room often shapes us the most, and Britt’s story is a powerful call to action for supporting the whole person—not just the professional title.
Big thanks to podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
In this episode of Beyond Sets & Reps, Britt Achterhoff shares her powerful and personal journey from collegiate athlete to respected team member at Sorinex. A former Clemson soccer player, Britt reflects on how her love for the weight room and a chance encounter during a facility renovation launched her into the strength and conditioning industry—though not in the traditional coaching sense. Instead, she carved out her path on the vendor side, traveling across the Southeast, immersing herself in the strength community, and earning respect through grit, relationships, and a deep passion for the field. Her story is one of relentless work ethic, identity exploration, and embracing the messy parts of career growth, especially as a young woman in a male-dominated space.
Britt also opens up about how motherhood reshaped her perspective on work, life, and purpose. As her role evolved from equipment sales to business development, she found herself craving more meaningful impact—and more balance. Her vulnerability in discussing postpartum challenges, identity shifts, and the importance of supportive workplace culture offers valuable insight for anyone navigating career transitions or family life. Britt’s passion for creating professional development opportunities in the industry is evident, and this conversation is a testament to the power of showing up authentically, even when the path forward isn’t crystal clear.

Cam and the hosts discuss how financial incentives are changing team dynamics, with college athletes now able to see their market value and, in some cases, negotiate their roles. They also touch on the shifting priorities in player development, noting that long-term training approaches are being replaced by a more immediate, results-driven model. The episode closes with a reflection on the challenges of balancing player performance, team needs, and individual goals in an ever-changing collegiate landscape. Cam recommends several books on leadership and negotiation, reinforcing the importance of adaptability and communication in both coaching and athlete development.

Assistant Director of Athletics Performance at Baylor University, Courteney Tompkins, finishes our year of Beyond Sets & Reps episodes and with her, we're ending on a high note. As a former collegiate wrestler, she offers a unique perspective as a young strength & conditioning coach - and as an 'old timer' now, I can say that! Ending the episode with her best advice is a great way to go into 2024. Enjoy and happy new year!
Shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for another year of support and making these episodes possible.
In this episode of "Research 2 Reps Roundtable," renowned expert Dr. Stacy Sims joins the hosts for a conversation on women's health and performance. Dr. Sims shares her personal journey and passion for addressing gender inequalities, emphasizing the often-overlooked impact of the menstrual cycle on female athletes' training and performance. The discussion delves into the importance of educating coaches, athletes, and medical professionals, and highlights the use of technology to optimize training programs. Dr. Sims also addresses the psychological effects of stress on elite female athletes. If you're interested in the intersection of sports science, women's health, and the future of performance optimization, this episode is a must-listen.
A big shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, who make these episodes possible!
We pick up part II with Byron Chamberlain right where we left off, discussing the lasting impact of his teammates not only on his career, but on his life in general and how they influenced his path after playing. And I couldn't help but ask him about his thoughts on Colorado because he has multiple perspectives on the situation - player, coach, analyst and as a fan of the sport. We wrap up with his thoughts about his main driver in life: his family.
Thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
We're diving into the world of brain health, performance optimization, and neuromodulation in this episode of "Research 2 Reps Roundtable" featuring the brilliant Dr. Ali Farooqui. A renowned medical doctor and psychiatrist, Dr. Farooqui shares his insights on cutting-edge techniques like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and how they can revolutionize not only mental health treatment but also the enhancement of cognitive functions and emotional stability. With engaging discussions on pain management, athletic performance, and the intriguing connections between brain health and mental skills, this episode offers a thought-provoking journey into the future of human potential. Don't miss this conversation that explores the exciting possibilities for a healthier, high-performing brain.
A big shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, who make these episodes possible!
A true lover of the game of football, a student of the game, and one of the best in the game, Byron Chamberlain, is joining us for Beyond Sets and Reps. Despite the focus of this podcast going beyond the sets and reps, we start this part 1 off by discussing Byron's lack of love for the weight room and how that changed. Then we talk about how his love of the game brought him back to the weight room in the form of an intern. That's right, INTERN!! Listen in for what he learned (besides stocking bars and folding towels) and keep an eye out for part II.
Thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
As a physical therapist and CSCS, Dr. Jarred Boyd’s goal is to facilitate return to activity and enhance patient potential by identifying opportunities to improve function and empowering patients with the tools to live better. Said another way, and especially working with professional athletes (Memphis Grizzlies), Dr. Body provides guided autonomy with his athletes. While that's counter intuitive to some, we explore the concept in this episode.
Shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, who make these episodes possible.
To put it simply, this episode of Beyond Sets & Reps is a HIGH LEVEL conversation. Earnie "Doc" Fingers is a highly energized speaker, higher ed administration leader, team builder and athletics professional with over twenty years of demonstrated success. "Doc" takes an integrated approach to creating efficient high performance work teams and organizations, and after hearing this episode, you'll see why! Shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, who make these episodes possible.
Dr. Tommy Otley is our guest this episode to share about what it's like as a full time Physical Therapist inside an athletic department. At the University of Miami he's helping bridge the gap between PT, Sport Science, and the other fields of Athletic Performance to optimize athlete play. Managing expectations is one of the most under-discussed topics he encounters, so we go deep on his experiences with the full spectrum of athletic professionals.
A big shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, who make these episodes possible!
Entrepreneur, life coach, strength & conditioning coach, and owner of the #1 fitness club of the Bahamas, MacFit360, our guest this week is Jimmy Mackey. Because of Jimmy, this podcast lives up to its name and we go way beyond the sets and reps of training. This episode covers life, health, training (of course), philosophy and more. If you ever make it down to his gym in the Bahamas, tell him I sent you!
Shoutout to our sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
Dr. Patrick Ward currently works in the Research & Development Department of Seattle Seahawks focusing on research strategy in football operations - opponent research, player evaluation, scouting, applied physiology, & sport science. We start out the conversation with differentiating between what people think sport scientists do versus what they typically do. And the conversation only gets better from there.
Shoutout to our sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
If you missed part I with Coach Luke Day, stop here and go back to listen because he sets the stage for this entire second part. Here in part II he's building on the foundation of his mistakes and lessons learned and giving us his insights and expertise that he's used to not only create his coaching philosophy but his life philosophy. Truly an impactful conversation and I hope you find it as profound as I did.
A big shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible!
The most under-managed and overlooked factor in collegiate sport performance (and probably optimal human performance if we're being honest): SLEEP. Dr. Craig Turner has made a career in sport science by focusing on sleep - how much do athletes need versus what is optimal? How can we best measure it and use that data? So much unknown about sleep, but we explore some of it in this episode of the Research 2 Reps Roundtable.
Thanks to our podcast sponsors Sorinex and EliteForm for making this episode possible.
This Beyond Sets & Reps episode with Luke Day ended up being too good of a conversation to limit it to ~30 minutes so we've got a 2-parter for you! In part I Coach Day sets the stage for where he's at now and he doesn't hold any punches when it comes to talking about his highs and his lows. Listen now and then be on the lookout for part II where he takes his experience one step further!
A big shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible!
Spanning coaching and consulting in combat sports, sport science and nutrition, Jennifer Gibson has 18 years in Athletic Performance and while that's easy to say in one sentence, it's MUCH more difficult to sum up her experiences in one podcast episode... but we tried. In this episode of the Research 2 Reps Roundtable our conversation makes it clear why she's one of the best in the field and continues working with elite athletes to reach the top of their game.
Big shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible!
USFL Director of Player Performance, Coach Zac Woodfin, is our guest this week on the Beyond Sets & Reps podcast. Not only do our career paths have a lot more in common than we initially realized, but he started speaking my language when he began discussing the relationships he prided himself on developing. So much so that while he was the Director of Strength & Conditioning, the University President asked him to serve as the interim Athletic Director at University of Southern Mississippi. Relationships got him there! You can't miss this episode.
Shoutout to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, who make these episodes possible!
Dr. Katie Nichols, Director of Mental Performance begins our Research 2 Reps Roundtable conversation by defining what mental performance actually is - essentially it's having the skills to put yourself in a position to be successful. Notice she didn't equate it to mental toughness! I know that's enough to have you intrigued, so go ahead and press play on this episode.
Big thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, who make these episodes possible!
"My body loves kale, my soul loves fried chicken" - our guest this week, Melissa Crowson, Dietician and Nutritionist. If that doesn't sum up our conversation, I don't know what will. Instead of focusing on broccoli, Crowson focuses on performance goals and winning to really get nutrition principles to hit home with athletes. Find more from Melissa Crowson at performstrong.org.
Big thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
The 'sport science' of mental health - while we typically think of sport science and the nerdy sport stuff, we often forget that how our brain works is most definitely science! Our athletes' brains run the show and this conversation with Dr. Brittany Collins examines the intersection of sport, sport science, mental health and social science. To say it was a high level conversation doesn't do it justice.
Special thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
Chris Crumpler AKA Coach Crump brings the fire this week with his motto: "I don't make excuses, I make adjustments!" BOOM. As a serial entrepreneur, coach, and athlete, his perspective on life is one that I don't see often, but his presence makes his mindset contagious. After this conversation you'll be ready to go and be saying, "check up!"
Big thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
Our Research 2 Reps Roundtable guest, Dr. Abbie Smith-Ryan, is an Exercise Physiology professor at UNC Chapel Hill with over 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts - so she's quite prolific in the sports research world. With alphabet soup after her name (said with admiration) - Ph.D., CSCS*D, FNSCA, FACSM, FISSN - she's well on her way to helping improve the health and quality of life for others. And a very unique aspect of this specific episode is that she ended up running the show and asking us more questions than we asked her!
Big thanks to Sorinex and EliteForm for making our podcast episodes possible.
University of Louisville Rowing Coach, Derek Copeland, had a unique childhood and early experience with sport that makes him a unique coach, to say the least. He has embraced the high performance model approach because he's seen it in action and how successful he and his team can be with it. If you want real world insight into how the HPM can be implemented and used, this episode is it!
Thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
If you work with female athletes in any aspect, or have a female athlete child or relative, you need to listen to this episode of Research 2 Reps Roundtable. Soon-to-be-Doctor Samantha Moore was not only the NCAAs first female Director of Sport Science, but she's a budding researcher in female athlete physiology and performance. In addition to the research she's doing, because of her background, she has the actual ability to translate the information in a way that's impactful and that coaches and athletes can actually use!
Big thanks to our podcast sponsors Sorinex and EliteForm for making these episodes possible.
Originally aired in August of 2019, it only seemed fitting to repost this Beyond Sets and Reps episode with now-Hall of Fame Coach Gary Pinkel. From program structure to program philosophy, Coach Gary Pinkel never wavered in what he did. And with good reason – a track record of success done the right way is his proven methodology, and put simply, it works. He’s based his entire career on treating the people the right way and that’s something he’ll continue standing by.
Big thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
In this episode Bert Sorin sits down with Logan Stark to catch up, and discuss his upcoming attempt at a Skydiving World Record. Logan is a Veteran, Producer of Content at Black Rifle Coffee, Hunter, and Adventure Seeker. He will be joining other Veterans to Skydive into 7 Continents, in 7 Days. He is living the definition of "Be Legendary".
High Performance Manager Officiating for the Australian National Rugby League, David Boyle, is our guest this episode of the Roundtable. While he brings a unique perspective with his background and research, we also discussed some of the universal truths of coaching. This is a fantastic one to round out this year of R2RR episodes.
Thanks to our podcast sponsors Sorinex and EliteForm for making these episodes possible.
With 30 years in the industry, Lance Walker is still on a mission to optimize athletic performance. With the various disciplines that go into the training and care of athletes, and the desperate need to bring them all together for the benefit of the human behind the athlete, Coach Walker is bridging the gap between the science and the sport.
Big thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible!
Lance Walker ended up being such a good guest, he's our first double header, appearing on this episode and next Beyond Sets & Reps episode. In this episode we go into the weeds of performance and how metrics carry over - and how to explain to athletes and decision makers how it carries over.
If you like episodes like this, be sure to let us know by giving it a review and sharing it with friends!

With two guests on this Research 2 Reps Roundtable episode, it felt more like adding a couple co-hosts to the podcast with the breadth of experience and expertise they brought. We didn't waste time - we got right into the high level conversation of the challenge of making the complex simple. Duane Carlisle and Scott Hopson joined Dr. Ted Lambinides and Dr. Pat Ivey for another fantastic episode that you'll keep coming back to over and over again.
Special thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
Director of Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning at Louisville, Jason Dierking is our guest on the Beyond Sets and Reps podcast this week. His philosophy of being a servant leader comes through as he walks us through his staff and how he goes about piecing together a group that works together so well. To say he's accepted the challenge of his position is an understatement and it's what makes him so good in his role - and as a podcast guest!
Thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible
Our guest this week, Dr. Stuart Phillips, is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at McMaster University in Canada and specializes in researching the impact of nutrition and exercise on skeletal muscle protein turnover. If that doesn't give you a hint, we go well into the protein weeds during our conversation. We discuss previous notions of protein, current research, plant-based recommendations and more.
Thanks to our sponsors Sorinex and EliteForm for making these episodes possible.
In this weeks episode of The Be Legendary podcast, Bert Sorin sits down with Sorinex Vendor Relations Manager, Alex Luhring, and one of our good friends through Sorinex Outdoors, Brian Trainor, to discuss a week long trek into the mountains in search of elk.

As a practicing physician he's also heavily involved in the practical applications of all that he's learned over the years.
A huge shoutout to our podcast sponsors who make these episodes possible: Sorinex and EliteForm.
Entrepreneur and Professor Vaughan Scott is really taking us BEYOND the sets and reps today with our conversation. As a global thinker, he's helping us see the effects of globalization on sport - both things to consider that could be hurdles and also opportunities to be had. Not only does he explore how we can be thinking of the sports-business connection strategically (chess, not checkers) but how we can convey that information to decision makers as well.
Thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making all our episodes possible.
Our guest this week is Dr. Andreas Stamatis, associate professor, fitness & wellness undergraduate program coordinator, and Lab Director at Plattsburgh might be one of our most credentialed guests ever on the roundtable. But even the alphabet soup after his name doesn't do his professional experience and insights justice. Join us as we go deep on mental toughness - and mental training as a whole - with athletes.
Big thanks to podcast sponsors Sorinex and EliteForm for making this episode possible.
Scott Hopson, co-founder of Pivotal, enjoys coaching the game of life (and the game of sport) while attempting to fulfil the potential of humanity. Dr. Amber Selking returns to the podcast to discuss her latest book Winning the Mental Game: The Playbook for Building Championship Mindsets, a culmination of her last decade of work. Most of us have a basic understanding of the physical - getting in shape, eating right to fuel our bodies, etc. But when it comes to how our brain works and how we can train our brain, the foundation is lacking. So Dr. Selking is using her work in athletics to help build that foundation not just with athletes, but with the use of her book, the masses. Find Dr. Selking's book here. And thanks to our podcast sponsors Sorinex and EliteForm.
* > Christie Aschwanden, author, journalist, and former elite endurance athlete is our guest on this week's episode of Research 2 Reps Roundtable to talk RECOVERY. Check out Christie's book, Good to Go here. And thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible.
Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Basehor-Linwood High School, Ross Schwisow opens our eyes (and ears) to the gratification of coaching high school aged kids in strength and conditioning. Having been at BLHS for over 15 years, he's built the entire curriculum of S&C and nutrition for not only student athletes, but the non-athlete student population as well. Hearing Ross discuss the impact on the community, including a summer program for grades 2-12, is worth the listen alone!

How it started…
Macfit360 began with a dream after playing Professional Basketball in Europe 2004. After seeing the economy going down and being fed up with travelling long hours to make a paycheck, Jimmy Mackey Decided to walk away from the game he loved.
After going from job to job, Jimmy finally went back to School and got an Advanced degree in Sports Management & Massage Therapy. He eventually landed in Temecula, California: a young man, with his family and with a drive and a new dream germinating.
This was the dream of something unique in the booming field of physical fitness: a studio built around programs that would combine personal training, sports performance, coaching, teaching and rehabilitation – a mind/body approach, a blend of Western and Eastern philosophies, a place where clients could not only reach their health and fitness potential but also be empowered to reach greatness in life.
This dream included people of all ages, shapes, sizes and motivations – elite athletes and weekend warriors, grandmothers and grandchildren, people suffering from chronic pain or stress and people seeking to avoid these chronic maladies, people wanting to lose weight, lower blood pressure or cholesterol and people simply wanting to look and feel better. This would be a special place – an energetic, motivating, positive environment.
MISSION STATEMENT.
MacFit360 exists for one reason, and that is to constantly challenge and lead our members to achieve the highest level of sustainable fitness you can reach.
MacFit360 has an obligation to our members to provide a safe environment and to help as many as we can to reach their goals and beyond.
MacFit360 is newest and largest fitness facility in the Bahamas.
MacFit360 also understands that there are many fitness choices in the area and that is why we are constantly improving and updating our facility for our members. While MacFit360 may be a fitness business, the thing most important to us is our members. We value our members and always strive to be the place where our members can come for an hour or two to work on your personal fitness.
MacFit360 wants to be your choice for fitness and to help add more quality to your life through fit
