Recorded while driving and done by Guy, but not every day. So, two out of three which ain‘t bad. Tech and personal talk with ”mostly true” stories thrown in for good measure
Some say it was going to be the longest Apple event EVER. Turns out it was just under 40 minutes, but probably closer to 35 if you take off the fancy intro. So what’s the takeaway? Size matters, pencils gone pro, and iPads get first dibs on chips. Also the show went completely bananas as practically every audio program we were using blew up all at the same time.
It took a few weeks but Nintendo has slapped down a staggering 8535 DMCA take down orders against a bunch of Git Hub repositories hosting older games for the Yuzu Switch emulator. A good portion of these games will never be pushed toward future platforms but it’s Nintendos (legal) bat and (legal) ball and they’re going home.

Mark your calendars for May 7th which is the next Apple event. Nothing concrete on what they’ll be releasing but having an Apple Pencil in the announcements graphic just MIGHT be a clue. David Ginsburg of In Touch with iOS Podcast fame joins Guy in a podcast that Guy had audio issues with, well for nearly the entire recording…sigh

So the rumormongers are talking about AI-infused M4 processors before Apple’s even finished updating M2 Macs with M3s. It’ll all be worth it though when those M4 AI-infused Man Minis, Studios, and Pros get out of Apple’s labs to enslave humanity…I mean help us with Photoshop.

Karl Madden of the Mac and Forth podcast join the GMen to help answer a listener question asking about Power Adapters. This got us to thinking (and you know how hard that is), what kind of options are there to power our Apple gear away from wherever it is we call home. Not just that quick trip to Disneyland, but perhaps some far away land filled with wonder unlike anything we’ve experienced at home! Huh…,maybe we mean Disneyland after all.

What happens when you get two podcasters playing with AI images? Unexpected results and lots of laughs. Karl Madden and Guy spent some time this morning trying to create images with AI and some crazy results occurred. Since this is more visual than usual, Guy will create a version of the podcast on YouTube that will just have the AI image discussion so you don’t have to go through the whole thing.

A haircut and people who are crazy conspiracy theorists (you know who you are!) get the business today.
Hey everyone, think back to those glorious days when the GMen went on and on about Apple’s ever so certain to be released (any day now) Apple car that was going to be so advanced that it would drive itself. In fact you couldn’t drive it even if you wanted to because it wouldn’t have a steering wheel. Well stick a pin on that because Apple has done a soft announcement that they’re canceling it! In fact, the announcement was SO soft that they didn’t even say it and relied on all the hype masters who have talked about it for ten years to do it for them.
Well it'ds been a long time, but Guy's Daily Drive is back. More nonsense about football and just general blah blah marks the first one. I'm SURE it'll get better...later on
Apple’s M3 Processor is a good (not particularly great but good) update over it’s M2 brothers and sisters. Depending on the configuration you want, it’s roughly about a 20% improvement. If you already have an M2-based computer, is it worth putting down your hard earned currency of choice? Depends on what you use it for, but generally speaking probably not. If you’re still on an Intel Mac or M1? Look in your couch cushions for spare change because you might want to make the jump.
The MacOS is great, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it better. We’re going to look at some apps that have the potential to make your experience better…even if they didn’t come from Cupertino

There’s quite a few bugs in Apple’s regular software. Actually more than a few and the GMen are going to talk about some of them this week. Not all of them because that might make the show just a tad too long, but enough to take the smirk of superiority off some Apple user’s faces.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week or so, pre-orders for Apple’s Vision Pro started on Friday January 19th. Are you ready for all the hype and whining well too bad, it’s likely going to be all you hear in tech circles for the next month or two. We promise that THIS show will be the last you hear about it from us! Or maybe we’ll likely be gushing and or complaining about it too. Also, Guy says a dumb. See if you can guess where it happens.
Guy hasn’t made a secret of his issues with having lost his right eye. While he’s made light of it, in every way it sucks. It puts him and others like him in a weird situation. They have a clearly defined affliction, but there’s little to no help for them. While it’s sure that people with worse sight issues would gladly trade places with those with mostly good vision in one eye, there’s more assistive technology for the blind or those with almost no vision than there there is for people with monocular vision. Everyone is different and their needs are very different, but can’t there be some help for them too?
While we may not want them, we’ve had them in a long journey that no one saw coming except for the exploiters themselves. They even went to extraordinary lengths to hide what they were doing from everyone. If ever there was a time to patch ALL your Apple devices, it would be now.
Does Photos drive you crazy with all of it’s sometimes VERY annoying quirks? Do the GMen have any answers? We would like to think we do, but how does that usually end up?
In what was supposed to be just a quick little,”Hey everyone! Have a great Holidays whatevers!” turns into a travelog and bit of weird and funny stories from the GMen. So of course it ends up being much longer than we thought it would be.
Still believe that your Mac can’t get infected by bad actors? Maybe you should take a minute and rethink that. ANY digital device can get infected by carefully crafted baddies and this week, we’ll give you a few tips to keep it from happening.
Sure there are deals both in-store and digitally, but since they started talking about Black Friday deals before Halloween, is anyone else tired of the hype? We sure are, so here’s a few relatively inexpensive things tech related you can buy that we like, and they’re probably not even on sale! But maybe they are.
There is practically no real Apple things to talk about that we haven’t already covered to the point of a coma, so let’s jump in a different direction while still keeping it an Apple focus. What’s some of the new stuff coming up in the AppleTV service and what’s some of the returning stuff?
Shortest event ever and could have been even shorter if they had snapped it up with all the processor talk. Don’t get us wrong, we love some of the finer details, but when you have an event that’s blink and you’ll miss it, having half of it taken up talking about cores and M1/Intel comparisons is kinda weak sauce.
Remember just a few weeks ago when we thought there wouldn’t be another Mac event this year? Or did we actually say the exact opposite? Hard to say, as the overblown reverb meant most people couldn’t stand listening to it.
Is anyone else disturbed that Apple may be getting involved with AppleTV content that they gave free reign to? We’d ask Jon Stewart but apparently that doesn’t play well in China. Also Guy’s experimental podcasting in a cave, down a ravine, in an abandoned concert venue, underwater last week didn’t work out as well as he had hoped.
We may thoroughly despise rumor mongering, but we do enjoy a little alleged by all accounts scuttlebutt so the story goes…so lets do that! Also Guy MAY have been a LITTLE heavy on the reverb…possibly
Sorry about that, but we were away for a bit taking care of all kinds of unrelated to being GMen things, but here we are. With MacOS Sonoma now released, there are certain things to remember and do BEFORE jumping to that new operating system. Chief among them is making sure you have a complete backup you can revert to in case things go horribly wrong! Will they? Probably not. CAN they? Oh most certainly.
I’m sure we were all surprised by the totally not pre-revealed by every single tech person ever alive or dead on what Apple released last Tuesday and to put the final nail in the coffin here come the G-Men! This should be an hour of predictable fun
Well we already talked about our predictions for the next Apple event last week. On purpose since a lot of people wouldn’t have heard us until after the event if done this week so what do we do for today? How about some CarPlay audiobook apps? Sure why not?
Apple announces to absolutely no one’s surprise their iPhone (probably) event on September 12th. There’s some stuff already known and likely there will be a surprise or two, but at this point we know what’s Apple’s cooking. Also, a big surprise from Guy
World’s longest “short” podcast that Guy and Gaz have ever done. No big tech show this week though Gaz’s snippets are still there. So, just how bad can a few flights go? Oh let me spin you a tale! Also odd tech glitched throughout much of the show which is blamed on Glenn Beck for reasons.
The title is kinda clickbait as there isn’t really anything called artificial intelligence for real. There are machine learning programs capable of writing malware based on the criteria given to it. The past and current talking points is that as the Mac gets more popular there will be more malware directed toward it. Been hearing this for years and the M-series Macs have grown the Mac market to the point where it is a more attractive target, but has there been more actual infections? One very telling point is that most articles saying the Mac get’s viruses and malware seems to come from companies selling anti-virus software.
OK so you bought a shiny new Mac of some kind. What else might you need that won’t cost an arm and a leg? Depends on a couple of things. Is it a laptop? A Mac mini? A Mac Studio? We’ll go over some stuff you might want to consider.

It used to be hard to get beta versions of the Mac OS. You had to be an Apple Developer and pay $99 a year for the privilege. Now you flip a switch in System settings and you can at the very least get the public betas with absolutely no sweat. However just because you CAN do something it doesn’t always follow that you should.
Apple and Goldman Sachs originally seemed like a match made in heaven. Apple makes their way into the world of finance instead of just being on the retail end and Goldman Sachs expanded into consumer banking. So how did it go so very wrong…for Goldman Sachs anyway.
Being a big time YouTube creator (or believing yourself to be a big time YouTube creator) does not entitle you to any special treatment if you break the law. This creator is even still in denial a year later after video gets out pretty much showing him to be guilty of the charges
The likes of the CEO of Apple Tim Cook, CEO of Alphabet Sundar Pichai, and CEO of Microsoft Satay Nadella all met with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at the White House last week following an earlier in the week meeting with Tesla/Twitter/Space X leader Elon Musk. The GMen wonder just what they could have been talking about this week in the second section of the show.

Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth podcast joins Guy in what's been an interesting week in which potential calamity after calamity occurred and we’re tempted to say thank you, since not much else is really going on for us to talk about. So instead of more, “Hey how about those new HomePods that look amazingly like the ones Apple already discontinued once” or “Should I get a new Mac now or wait until the M3 miniPro UltraMax comes out?”, we’re going to talk about what to do when your worst week ever happens…without it being like, actually life threatening or anything. Because that would REALLY suck.

Getting those plans to go to New York finalized and why do people just assume we're all OK with them holding up lanes of traffic so they can do a last minute slip into a long line of cars?
What a Debbie downer. Not his usual cheery self, but at least he managed to say things. Sheesh, cheer up Guy
Finally back with some more nonsense about my predictions on the AFC and NFC Conference finals. Hint: I did not do that well.
There's some speculation that 2023 may be the year that the M-series Mac Pro may finally be released. There's also lots of speculation (and a fair bit of whining) that it won't be as expandable as some past Mac Pros were. Honestly? It probably won't be. OODLES of audio comments including our first from the new Google voice number which will make this a SUPER long show with a lot of afters
Just as we were getting comfortable with the state of all things Mac, Apple does a non-event and throws out M2 Mac minis and MacBook Pros. Seems like maybe they should have started with these instead of the Air and iPad, but what do we know? Then, just to throw us another curveball, bigger HomePods just were announced!
For the plus 20 years, Apple has manufactured the vast majority of their stuff in China. Obviously they haven’t been alone in doing this, most major tech companies and many smaller ones have either moved their factories to China or gotten started there. The pandemic showed that this was a risky move as China essentially shut their entire country down for a long time, disrupting supply chains everywhere. Apple and now many others are beginning to rethink this strategy and have begun diversifying their manufacturing to other countries in the region as well.-
News on this podcast is serious business…no matter how many times we laugh at it. It can be hard to take some news seriously and other times it just lends itself to hyperbole and ridicule, but we approach these topics with much thought and insight….or that’s what we tell ourselves anyway.
SORT of a Guy's Daily Drive except he's not in the car. Instead he has a talk with Jeff Gamet and Dave Ginsberg as he tries to figure out how to have a call-in number while recording a podcast.
Sometimes it’s hard to know what features an OS is offering that might be to your liking? If really any at all. So we’re going to talk about some of the main features of macOS Ventura and whether or not we’ve tried them and if we’ll use them on a daily basis. Then, make up your own mind about it.
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the podcast, not a creature was stirring but you know it won’t last. Gaz and Guy have family coming from afar. Through wind, snow, and rain, but quite comfy in their car. You heard them exclaim as the present wrappings flew, “You didn’t get Apple Care? You fool you fool!”
Two weeks away and the GMen are getting into the spirit of the season! That season being "Why the heck is it so cold and windy?" Also, it's looking more and more like Apple is going to be forced in the EU to allow 3rd party app stores and other alternative means to procuring and installing iOS/iPadOS apps outside of Apple's own app store.

You would think Apple was in dire straits based on what analysts are saying. Some of it true and some false, all overblown or inconsequential long term. AirPods and AirPods Pros assembly lines being shut down for an unnamed new product just before the holiday season buying rush (because THAT makes sense), iPhone 14 lines shut down due to dystopian COVID-19 authoritarian demands (might be somewhat true), and M2 laptops that only measure 13 inches at best (currently true), Apple surely MUST be doomed! Except they’re having one killer quarter after another so either Apple is lying or analysts don’t have a clue. I’m not normally a betting man, but I know where I’d put my money.

Remember all those times the GMen have told you NOT to immediately update to a new version of the macOS? Remember those times? Well, both of them decided to completely ignore that advice and throw common sense out the window because they did it anyway. So far so good which means disaster is likely right around the corner.

Busy day for Guy yesterday with a 3 hour drive each way to Philadelphia to see a Dracula exhibit at the Mutter Museum. Much Muttering was done as it was less spectacular than anticipated. Also Apple apparently updated some tablet thingies.
Guy is back from Zombie-land but it turns out he never went to the dead people place…for now. All the drama that happened in Long Island is explained and saying we have wood might not mean what it sometimes means otherwise.

You wouldn't think a short weekend trip to Long Island could be filled with SO much drama! You would be wrong
Gaz uses a screen recorder for work and wonders if it's cross-platform. Guy says yes it is so you know it isn't.
Driving to New York is not a fun experience and I spend most of this video as a frozen mess. Thanks Facebook!
It was a dark and stormy...thing. Crazy minibits and other stuff! Also it's 2022 Guy not 2020.
Somehow the theme music didn't make it over so the GMen dance like crazy to...nothing. The video is funnier
Going to get the car worked on, why I'll never own a boat, and other stuff. Also Facebook live hates me
FINALLY talking about the actual Ringo Starr and his All-Starr band concert. Amazing show
Gaz is off doing luxury things on luxury planes and drinking luxury drinks, eating luxury food, dancing to luxury songs, and presumably using luxury toilets while on a luxury ya-cht. Don’t blame us for saying ya-cht. That’s how it’s spelled. Meanwhile on planet earth with us dirt beings NOT doing luxury stuff, we’re doing a podcast while not much is going on in the Apple world and order backlogs, OS issues, and vibrating phones.

Some bad audio and video sync problems from Facebook losing connectivity as I barreled down the road. However it was all about getting to and from the Ringo Starr All Starr concert so listen up!
A lot of the stuff from the Apple event is now available or WAS available because it’s now mostly on backorder. To be expected in the current climate. Fortunately neither of the GMen want to buy anything new…or do we? Might take a little bit of convincing one way or the other.
The Apple event has come and gone and there were very few surprises. iPhone 14, new watches, new iPod Pros. The GMen will go over what did (and didn’t) impress them. Also condolences to all affected by the death of Queen Elizabeth the second. A wonderful lady in every sense of the word who served and represented her country in a positive way for over 70 years. God bless you Mum.
STILL working on the audio setup. Did some tweaks and went back to recording directly into Hindenburg as the time Guy THOUGHT he might save by recording with Audio Hijack utterly failed to manifest itself. Big Apple event on Wednesday (Guy still hates the date) for some Apple-ly stuff so everything is mostly quiet this week…except for the GMen. They’re as loud as ever.
It’s being said that the iPhone 14 will have the same look and processor as its predecessor and in order to get the best full featured specs, you’ll need to jump to the 14 Pro. If this is true, is there really a need for iPhone 12 or 13 users to jump to a new phone?

Somehow a brief discussion about Amazon turns into a rant about Star Trek the animated series
Apple just released their Q3 earnings for 2022 and while the company met expectations, that’s about the long and short of it. Mac sales in particular were way down by 20% year over year and the biggest problem seems to be supply constraints and a lot of China’s capacity out due to lockdowns enforced by the government. Guest host Karl Madden from the Mac & Forth podcast comes in for Gaz (who’s been walking Wilf for a REALLY long time now) and they talk a bit about just how many Macs Apple sells per year.

So Guy used to do this thing called the Dashboard Minute when he still had hair on top of his head…kidding…wasn’t happening even then, He thought they were gone forever when Apple pushed it out with OS X 10.14 Mojave. Turned out they were just bidding their time to put them on an even smaller screen, namely iPhones.

So many sales going on right now on Apple products from Walmart with its Walmart + Weekend sales or Amazon’s Amazon Prime Day events with HUGE discounts off Apple Products. Many pendants are saying, “Hey Apple, why don’t YOU do some of those discounts and get those shoppers on YOUR website!”. Except they’ve forgotten one important fact. Both Amazon and Walmart are still buying those products from Apple so without even cutting margins to near nothing, Apple still gets paid. Also apparently there’s a developer’s conference or something on Monday which I guess the GMen will talk about. Lastly, it’s the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee!

It seems redundant these days to report on Apple’s finances when you could record it once with a “Apple made record revenue and profits this year blah blah blah” and call it a day. There’s a nugget there though while not new, continues to astound the once hardware-heavy tech giant and that’s Services. This quarter, that’s where nearly 25% of all revenue Apple generated came from.

Oh just relax internet censors, we’re talking about computer speed for gosh sakes. The great debate over whether Apple’s benchmarks comparing an M1 Ultra Mac Studio to a similar Intel-based computer has fans on both sides dragging up all the old arguments of Mac vs PC. Many are saying at best Apple exaggerated and many others claiming Apple out and out lied. The GMen say, stop getting your underwear in such a twist. Maybe going forward for most people it just won’t matter. Or maybe that time has already come.

When it comes to upgradability, Apple’s devices going back well into the Intel years have not exactly been the best examples. Even the simple things like RAM and storage have been missing from most of Apple’s lineup for many years. Looking forward into the M-processor years, this isn’t likely to change much and there are some very good, if not extremely frustrating reasons why.

CHIPs do Matter but we aren't talking about tasty salty snacks to crunch on while watching various sports, but connectivity and low power wireless standards all jumbled together to make an internet of things word salad less confusing. As an added bonus, even stuff not designed to work together should if the proper protocols are followed. Get it? Also don't forget we need you to insult us in the worst way for our upcoming 600th episode and that's no sausage!

The longest Guy's Daily Drive I've ever done. It starts with a series of bad decisions to try to go to work as a blizzard hits the DC area hits and ends a few days later as I try to explain what happened. I do not come out looking good either way
A quiet year in general since most people were discouraged from going anywhere and Apple wasn’t immune either. So let's take a walk down memory lane at the world of Apple in the year 2021. Also more phone calls!

It's the end of 2021, so let's talk about what happened this year...OR we can talk about CES, some trips, putt-putt golf, MacStock, and a variety of other stuff.
Christmas shenanigans! Whole family together with some new introductions. Namely Guy Jr's new Beau! Stocking stuffers, gifts under the tree, and a yummy Christmas dinner made it all great!
It's the Pre-Christmas jitters and there's still SO much to be done! I talk about my car and a clone of it I saw. Also we bought (or Tracey did) some new Guinea pigs! MERRY PIGMASS!
Up early so instead of trying to sleep, I edited video instead. Christmas prep done later than earlier and yummy Christmas dinner are all the sleepy topics discussed
Gaz and Guy are going to share with you their opinions of some of the new features built into the latest versions of iOS and MacOS. Some of those opinions like those features will likely stink. Also, remember Guy complaining that no one was using the Skype call number? People did and Guy didn’t know because sometimes he’s dumb.
Is basic math really that hard? You might think it was based on the incomprehensible ways people have of avoiding it.
Loud fan noise and Facebook issues on my previous two videos makes me an unhappy camper. However Christmas is fast approaching so get happy darn it!
Yeah we know Apple is coming out with new Macs all sporting the latest M-designed chips, but what will they call them? So far there hasn’t been much in the way of originality when it comes to naming conventions for Apple devices (Air and Pro being the most innovative sheesh) and there likely won’t be much this go round either…or will there be?
Having some weird issues with Facebook Live video recordings and nearly every video editor with out of sync audio and video. Meanwhile, Christmas decorations are going up and natch there IS drama! It also cuts out very early. Dammit Facebook!
Sorry about that bit of bad language at the beginning of the show last week. See THIS is what happens when you become a lazy audio editor and don’t listen through the whole thing or take notes to remember what to do when you start putting things together…or so Guy thinks he was told anyway. Also Who DOESN'T love having their their iPhone turned into a spying device on themselves? Am I right?
So no Hamilton for the family in Durham, NC because the tickets are $200+ each! Times 6 means by the time everything is said and done, we're looking at 2K for a 3 hour production! Nope.
Amazon Fresh isn't that unique of an experience, Thanksgiving was terrific and tasty and we brought the bird(s). Gifts are showing up at the door, so what do you get a son's newish girlfriend? We love the Beatles, but how many hours can you watch at one time?
Why are the GMen wasting time recording a podcast on Black Friday when we or AppleTV could be getting deals of a LIFETIME!?! Because it’s the same boring ho-hum nonsense from every year. “Special one day only deals” that seem to last a week on stuff we don’t really want anyway. Instead we’ll talk about the differences between the AppleTV, AppleTV, PLUS AppleTV!
It's a Thanksgiving show and there's a LOT of rambling going on here. Office Lunch, saying hi to live viewers, idiot drivers, and eating bar-b-que while fighting traffic.
Being open and having close friends isn't easy for some people. Me included. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Ah the season of Black Friday madness is nearly here and with it comes the shouts of happiness and screams of "HEY! That's MY parking space!" at 3 in the morning to get a 50-inch off brand 4K TV set from an unpronounceable Chinese manufacturer for $200. Well, we're better than that aren't we? No? Well, we're likely buy better stuff anyway.
Different flavors of Oreos can be delicious and appreciate those serving you on the holidays be not being a dick.
All about the trip down to North Carolina to see Escape from Margaritaville. The good, the bad, and the ugly
The weekend trip (or the NEXT weekend trip really) and why sometimes I can't record Guy's Daily Drive
Apple’s big growth days in their existing markets are likely pretty much over. Sure they sell a few more gizmos in each segment each quarter, but their share is pretty much stagnant within a few percentage points. So where are they likely to go to next?

Post Halloween and Covid booster shot post weekend blues! Also my hair is NOT gray! It's just really light blonde
There are times when vastly more important things come up than recording the 870th episode of a long running podcast. However going to see the Ravens lose to the Bengals isn’t likely on that list. However what did we miss anyway? Oh yeah new processors and laptops. Meh, who was paying attention to that? Somehow Guy gets through this week show even though he’s booster-sick
Went to a football game and not only did my team (or at least the team I follow in this area) lose, the experience getting in and out of the area was the worst!
Perspective is everything. Things that made sense or phrases used when I was younger may not make any sense to the current generation. Hey! Let's go to Blockbuster!
Why is there an Apple event scheduled for a Monday? Has the very course of time and space been altered in such a way was to warp the very fabric of reality and Kleenex tissues? No, I think it’s Tim Cook just having a laugh.

A great weekend with my wife and Ohio friends driving through the rain looking at history from waaaaaaaaay over there.

Belle Island is a little slice of wilderness that if you don't live in Richmond, you may not know about. Also tonight we're going to see the Beatles tribute band Rain which I've looked forward to for years!
Attended a memorial service for a long time friend and work colleague. A sad occasion, but I was happy to see how many showed up that I knew from work to celebrate and remember this man
Virtual Macstock 2021. Mistakes were made,,,and they were all mine. Some lessons learned that I hope I'll remember for the next time...sure I will
Believe it or not, we had sort of intended to do a show from Macstock or nearby at least, but circumstanced deemed otherwise. Some virtual (but very real) technical issues, audio feedback, and the fact that Guy took a laptop running a Mojave beta (so no Rogue Amoeba apps could be run) meant that frankly it was just impossible. It also didn’t matter how many microphones Guy took with him (over 10) no matter what he thought at the time he was gathering them.

No matter what some may say, there is no such thing as good or bad news, there’s just news. However the LACK of news lately has been Maddening (pun intended), so the announcement of an event on Tuesday, September 14th fills our hearts with glee, sunshine and rainbows, THAT IS good news!

Guy:- Two picks.
The Inn at Leona is a fabulous place to stay with a wonderful staff and so much ambiance you could choke on it. Reasonably priced rooms too. Also the Strasburg Railroad is a 45 minute to the past that if you don’t enjoy, well then you just suck. COVID rules shut down their reservation system the day before, so we had the entire dining car to ourselves. Just luck of the draw, but it still would have been fun even full up.

Lawn maintenance when it's ALWAYS FRIGGING RAINING! Why is Guy a grump and what can be done about it? The dangers of being Aggressively friendly is a real thing. This one ends abruptly because connectivity got broken.
Remember when simplicity was actually almost built-in to Apple products? When presenters would stand on stage and say “All you need to do is push this button and we’ll do all the heavy lifting.” Those days? LONG gone.

A brief telling of why the Mac to the Future Livecast is on hiatus and how it might come back, death of a pet (bye bye Groot), and some future travel plans including more details about Macstock!
Recent experiments by Guy has made him start to think. A dangerous precedent that you would believe the world would want to avoid, but they did it anyway. Is the current crop of emulation of not just X86 coded apps, but iOS and iPadOS apps a look into the future? Are we getting closer to that time when what OS you’re running is irrelevant? That’s the subject for the next section anyway.
Apple says their photo checking is completely harmless, above board, and can't be modified into anything else...hmmm. Want a TouchID Keyboard? Apple will sell you one for a not suprising big amount of money. Jennifer Lawrence's superpower MAY be her ability to wrestle a large amount of cash from Apple or Netflix.
Started off as an experiment to get live callers and opinions while livecasting and became a lesson knowing Jack about Linux...no really Jack on Linux
We go outside to an actual theatre and see a live play! Just like it wasn't the zombie apocalypse!
That pesky Apple Car just won’t go away! Just when you thought it was safe to start looking at what analysts say again, this crops up once again proving the old saying…”Analysts are idiots who will say anything to get you to part ways with your money in the direction they’re being paid to tell you to spend it at.”. OK, the saying might not be old, in fact we may have made it up here on the spot, but it it doesn’t make it any less true.
BIG thanks to Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth podcast for stepping in and keeping Guy sane…company while Gaz was away. Apple is the company that gives and then takes away. Announcements have been made that they are going to start scanning users Photos library to help stop underage exploitation and while that is a lofty goal, what does it mean in regards to user’s privacy that Apple has touted in their press clippings?
Gaz is off doing all things Gaz this week so Karl Madden of the Mac and Forth Podcast graciously allowed himself to be blackmailed into being on. For fulfilling his end of the deal, those pictures will never be released to the general public. They go into their recording setup and gear because there’s not really all that much else going on and Guy LOVES talking about that stuff.
With fall about to drop in about a month, a lot people begin to focus of new iPhones. However with the transition away from Intel for the Macs, it has been a very chaotic kind of year not even including a global pandemic. The M1 Macs have been pretty good, but there’s lots of room for improvement with the Macs that haven’t gotten out of the labs yet.
We talked about some of the new features coming up for macOS Monterey last week and said we'd talk some more about it this week...which is what we're going to do. So that shouldn't be all that surprising.

Guy:- Apple’s News App. Never thought I’d use it much, but I like it as a content aggregator. https://www.apple.com/apple-news/
Gaz:- Apple 1 subscription service
Apple spins its way (oh so quietly) onto someone else’s remote. Apple’s own remote is updated with the AppleTV that’ll cost you around a lot. Windows 11 may be coming virtually to your M1 Monterrey Mac…eventually. iOS and iPadOS Public Betas are out! Should you dive headfirst or let others take that chance?
Lots of talk from Capital Hill in regards to those naughty big tech companies. Congress wants them to play by the same rules as the average person as if the average person could create a big tech company…or that they could either. Oddly enough, Apple is probably in less of a fix as the other four, by these bills definition.
A little bit more about Peter's move, Beatles are raining, DaVinci isn't always a smart move, and just more stuff!
There are several standards in regards to home automation. Reaching back into the Jurassic age there was X-10 which made it possible to connect several devices to a home security monitored (by someone else) system. However it wasn’t very interactive once set up. Coming into the modern age besides Apple’s Homekit there’s Belkin’s Wemo (now discontinued), SmartThings, Ankuoo, D-Link, and TP-Link amongst others.
Dub-dub is now fading away but all the great stuff they revealed is open for review! Like…that thing…where they…did, stuff?
Only crooks have iMacs…I mean there’s a chance your iMac is crooked and there’s no way to put a positive spin on that. It shouldn’t be a great surprise that Tim Cook doesn’t want side loading apps for iOS and iPadOS and it has nothing to do with how much money Apple makes from the App Store. A Democrat from Rhode Island wants to force Apple and others to divest themselves of their App Development teams.
Power weirdness and an article about an under $100 setup lead to a purchase of a tin can microphone. Yes, a tin can microphone.
Guy has returned from Walton country ablaze with success after bagging multiple Mooses…meece, mice? LOT’S of plural Moose. So no matter what he says after this, he’s obviously lying. WWDC 21 starts on Monday which is probably when most people will hear this podcast. So there’s no real point in speculating much about what it’ll all be about. So a few randoms things will be thrown in instead.
We are about 2 weeks away from WWDC 2021 and expectations are high! As in, anyone making predictions and claiming to have any accuracy is probably on illegal medication. That won’t stop the GMen from making predictions though because they’re naturally high…on LIFE!
Yeah we like it when companies make things simple, but changing TVOS to HomeOS? Original HomePods are sold out in Apple Stores but still available online for as long as (lolz) supplies last. Rumors of a new iPod touch are surfacing, though no one can explain why. Batteries dying in those old moldy AirPods? Good News! AirPods 3 is likely, probably, but not for certain on the way! Speaking of uncertainty, did you get an M1 Mac mini? Not to worry! There might be an M2 Mac mini on the way and analysts have hastily drawn mock ups to prove it! Sure we want reviews, and positive reviews even more, but to force users to leave one BEFORE you can even use the app? Cheap deals for M1 Mac Minis are out there, maybe a new model coming? WWDC is scheduled to start June 7th. Besides new looks in your favorite operating systems, what else might Apple be announcing? There are reports that there’s an unfixable flaw in the M1 processor, but that it really doesn’t matter except to alarmist tech blogs. SHOW LESS
According to some, Apple and Google’s market dominance in Smartphone operating systems is stifling competition. While some of their points are valid, they also are ignoring the consequences of opening the ecosystems to everyone.
WWDC is coming up in less than a month so we’re bound to hear about all the great changes in Apple’s various operating systems for developers. Except there’s one that rules above all the others. Be advised there’s no after show this week due to some technical issues with the recording software. The whole second part of the show would have been lost except we had the video recording that we were able to pull from. Sorry about that.
The first products from Apple’s last event are starting to show up, but we figured everyone is tired of talking about that OLD stuff. So let’s talk about what might (by might we mean eventually) be showing up at a slickly produced and kept at about an hour or so Apple event near you soon.
Apple has their Spring Loaded event and all kinds of goodies have been pushed out, though will the GMen bite at some of them? Maybe or maybe not.
Everyone seems very upset with Apple for how hard it is to switch between iOS and Android if you decide to leave the platform. Is it all that hard and what are some of the costs involved? Also, we try to not curse on the MyMac Podcast, but sometimes we &#$@% it up.
Life was so much simpler back in the day. You’d grab a microphone, turn on something to record yourself, and you were good to go. Now it’s all about social media, multi-channel DAWs recording into a livestream while monitoring chat and trying to keep yourself from getting strikes that could collapse the whole house of cards. OH, and still trying to be interesting. Or maybe that’s just Guy.

That third-gen AppleTV is not looking too good these days. A YouTuber makes the first publicly seen M-series iMac, but it yells at European villagers and is afraid of fire. Soon you’ll be able to shop via Twitter…I’ll just leave that right there. And Apple has a new macOS 11.3 beta 3, which seems like a redundant thing to say.

Apple’s car business which doesn’t exist in public other than CarPlay, 14 million blogs and podcasts, and analysts saying it does, took another step toward not being a fantasy which it still is, by poaching Porsche execs and denying everything by saying nothing at all about it. Which means it’s DEFINITELY going to happen…maybe…or maybe not. And you can take that to the bank because you got the straight scoop from the GMen!
