Here is the recording from Surgeon x Erika closing the Dance Room at the closing party for Return to the Source — Interdimensional Transmissions presents The Bunker on Monday May 25, 2026 at Tangent. This set was nothing short of legendary, a magical pairing that found so many new sides to their common influences and surprising selections that really helped us all see new facets to the music we love. A fitting conclusion to a weekend of exploration of sound, where it can go, and the power of gathering such a community together— a perfect send-off for Return to the Source.

This is Ectomorph (BMG + Erika) doing a hivemind DJ set closing the 35th anniversary of Tresor in Berlin, on the Globus floor, at Tresor 35. On this joyous occasion, we played in a celebratory way, with a nod to our influences and a vision of the future, highlighting what inspires us in the varied landscape of today. With Tresor having such an important place in our history, it was wonderful to be able to celebrate its history while participating in it, a real full circle moment. This set was performed on 4 CDJ-3000s, a Xone:96 and 2 pedals: a Strymon Blue Sky and a Strymon EC-1. @bbmmgg @erikadotnet
For the second IT record from Detroit’s Andy Toth, he explores a sci fi fusion of electro and acid, with a remix by BMG of Ectomorph fame. Andy Toth has a long history in Detroit Techno, from an engineering and mixing background where he mixed records for the likes of Mike Huckaby and many others, to co-authoring “Sandwiches”. For this record, Andy had the songs mixed on hardware by BMG in his studio, to give them an even more 3 dimensional sound and an even greater weight. The result for the “Mind Lock EP” is simultaneously hypnotic, acid, sci fi, and electro. The depth of tone, density of sound and maturity of concept come through the 4 deeply compelling tracks that you can just get lost in. Unique versions available on black and color vinyl, and unedited originals are available digitally.A1. Mind LockA2. Mind Lock (BMG Remix)B1. Sycorax B2. Let Him Out

On the 8th of August, 2025, in Berlin, IT teamed up with Tresor to present a No Way Back, where we translated the concept of NWB to the context of Tresor. At this show in Berlin, the launching of our 30 Years of IT tour, Sarah Wreath performed a stunning set steeped in heavy heady vibes in Globus, a kind of opening ceremony if you will. In the words of Sarah Wreath:“The intention and idea was a vinyl-focused opening set - morphing warm minimalism and Detroit Techno into psychedelia. It was a perfect occasion and a highlight of 2025 to have my solo debut at Globus, and to dig into my deeper, groovier and slower collection of records - the direction where my roots truly are. It somehow felt like the soundtrack of my musical path over the last 15 years.Playing an opening set means carefully creating the energy of the room and programming the music from that. An empty room fills up; subtle waves of sound and rhythm grow into something big, creating a connection for everyone - and for the music itself - setting the vibe for the night.”@sarahwreath

the Infinite Dimensions Crew. For the show in Strasbourg, in addition to DJ sets from Ectomorph along with solo sets from Erika and BMG, we were pleased to welcome one of our musical heroes: the genre transcendent genius from The Hague: Intergalactic Gary. This was the final DJ set of the 30 Years of IT Tour. This set really aces the mission of the whole tour, and after guests like Rrose, dBridge and Clarisa Kimskii at other shows, we really feel like we expressed so many sides of our vision. IT’s first record launched with Ectomorph in February 1995, and we have been devoted to the left hand path of Detroit Techno to this day, striving to create music and environments that are both timeless and inspiring.
In the words of Scott Zacharias, who closed the Outer Space Room at No Way Back, May 25, 2025, Day 2 of Return to the Source at Tangent, Detroit:“NWB, being more than just the sum of its parts, always reflects my current life state(or lack of) and this year was no different. My friend Zach reminded me of this ultra-special cut by Arthur Russell: “In the Light of the Miracle.” It’s one of those holy grails and this mix (by Danny Krivit & Tony Smith) only existed as unreleased Talking’ Loud promo until a Soul Jazz comp finally issued it properly in 2005. I used to run it occasionally some 20 years ago, but hearing it again left me shook and set the stage for my entire set. And the rest of my life. My partner Ellen and I learned we were pregnant that same weekend.Completely overwhelmed, I felt like I just wanted to share music for folks like I do in my own living room. Not really as a mix, but an intimate family affair. In the wee hours of the morning when I finally decided to share Russell’s opus, Ellen joined me on stage. We embraced and cried as we saw all our friends dancing in a now sunlit room. “I love you and that's all, living in the light.” — Arthur Russell”
Haruka x Craig Gonzalez opened the Dance Room at I.T. presents The Bunker, May 26, 2025, Day 3 of Return to the Source, at Tangent, Detroit.Craig Gonzalez – @craig-gonzalez:It's one thing to hop on the decks with someone during peak time at a party in a packed room like the first time Haruka and I played together in NYC but it's another to open a party during the last leg of RTTS weekend. So we started talking about the set a couple of months beforehand, but nothing really prepares you until you're in the middle of RTTS weekend itself. We were texting and chatting about the setup and direction throughout the weekend and eventually landed on keeping things a little funky and fun. Playing with someone with a similar approach to DJing and also range really made the set feel so effortless for me and I feel that cohesion and the fun we had translated quite well to those that were in attendance.Haruka – @haruka_ptc:2023, Good Room (Brooklyn)We were both booked to play a Bunker party that night and with an hour left before our room was about to shut down, I asked Craig to jump on for an unplanned B2B. Craig had already set the room up with a deep, super-diverse selection and then vibe in our room was so good, I will never forgot it. So when IT asked us to do it again we got hyped.RTTS, DetroitOur slot opened the last day of the three-day marathon, and other parties were running in the daytime too, so it felt like one long 72-hour session. Craig also played Movement. It was my first time in Detroit, so I wandered around, popped into a bunch of events, but spent every night back at Tangent Gallery with Craig—talking, listening to other artists, and getting a real feel for the room. That helped us lock in the vibe and refine the ideas we’d been tossing around for months. The setTwo words kept coming up: funky and fun (maybe sexy too). I played only a few recent tracks but most were older finds with some electro slipped in naturally. In hindsight the whole thing was a back-and-forth between electro and deep, psychedelic techno, with extra flavours layered on top.
Mike Servito's closing set from 10:30am until noon at No Way Back, May 25, 2025, Day 2 of Return to the Source at Tangent, Detroit. "Mike Servito is an artist intertwined with his Detroit origins. No matter how far he travels and how long he lives elsewhere, the essential imprint of this city remains in everything he does.If you asked where this mix was recorded, I would say "Detroit" without hesitation and if I thought about it for a bit, I would guess that it was most likely one of Mike's legendary closing sets at No Way Back at Tangent Gallery. The level of care and reverence that go into these sets is very evident in this mix from start to finish. The track selection moves effortlessly from past to future playing with darkness and light, depth and joy, tension and release. It's a remarkable demonstration of taste and skill but also a paean to Mike's personal artistic history that calls to the creative power center that Detroit comprises. This mix provides a true glimpse into Mike's long-term dedication to the art of working in tandem with the dancefloor, creating a shared journey where the challenge is to let go and just trust the DJ." – Michelle Erfer, Beyond Booking / The Bunker
For this set I played on 4 CDJ 3000’s and a V10 mixer, using both of its internal effects processors. For every No Way Back set, and for most sets, I try to prepare new hardware remasters and edits of things that I think would be fascinating recontextualized in this setting. But for NWB, it is even more special, a peak moment, so I try to have new records I’m working on in the studio to test out. For this set that means the hardware mixes I’ve been working on for Torrvo and for Andy Toth can be tested, I’m working on this hardware mixing and remastering tone palate, so I spread that to some edits to give them a whole new power. Playing at No Way Back cannot be put into words, though we try every year, it really is inexplicable without experiencing it. It’s the environment you most want to be in, the space is totally transformed, the sound is dialed in, the audience is so ready, very giving and open, and the feedback you get is incredible. People are up for a ride – we start at the Tangent and end up going to the other side of the universe. Freedom within and without. There’s no place I’d rather be, so I thought I’d share this much sooner than we usually do. Enjoy the ride. – BMG @bbmmggPink Floyd – Welcome to the Machine (BMG edit)Refracted – Beneath The SurfaceTorvvo – Carrier (BMG NWB Mix - forthcoming on Interdimensional Transmissions)Pause – Exode XSciahri – GlowShed – EMCZAmotik – PeelaErika – Wandering Mountain (Mike Parker Remix)Translate – Shifted CommunicationsDino Sabatini – PeuceusFeral & Luigi Tozzi – EnigmaPALEMAN – QuarryD-Leria – Voodoo Magic (Polygonia Remix)Lory D – Mantrosax 2Surgeon – Forgotten GodsPeter Van Hoesen – Definition by AbsenceSteve Bicknell – Easing Info TomorrowResonance – Yellow Train (BMG Hardware Remaster edit)The Fantasy – Soft Space (2025 Hardware version) forthcomingDJ Funk – House The GrooveOttagone – Ottagone 021Andy Toth – Mind Lock (forthcoming on Interdimensional Transmissions)AgainstMe – Into The DomeGiordano – Electric StardustAlex R – z50808 State – Flow Coma (BMG Hardware Remaster edit)Wee Papa Girls – We Know It (KMS mix) (BMG Hardware Remaster edit)Aphex Twin – Isopropophlex (BMG Hardware Remaster edit)
Intergalactic Gary has been one of our favorite DJs for many years, as his genre transcendence aligns perfectly with IT’s vision. This set was recorded in a very special circumstance, at Tresor 313, May 25, 2024 at the Tangent Gallery on Day 1 of Return to the Source. Originally scheduled for 2 hours, it naturally extended to almost 4 hours, which is the kind of thing that is possible at this party when just the right chemistry happens. We had Intergalactic Gary on directly after the Model 500 live show in the Gallery, the room was already on fire. When he came on he totally captivated the room, the energy was palpable as he effortlessly went from all sorts of variants of techno and house and the raw essence of what makes them – from Italo disco to early Chicago and forms of electro, culminating in his effortless presentation of the timeless sublime jam “Amenity” by Link, a peak experience for everyone present. This kind of perspective on music is really elucidating and liberating, and made for one of the most memorable sets of the weekend – delivered by a true cult hero.
Ahead of the work we are doing with Detroit veteran Craig Gonzalez this year, here is a mix he’s done exploring new rhythms and soundscapes. We thought it would be prudent to share a mix of one of his many fresh perspectives, where he explores something we at IT find very compelling — new juxtapositions of polyrhythms and drum and bass within a deeply hypnotic techno context. "I’ve really been enjoying exploring the sonic space between techno and drum and bass. What excites me about this fusion is how it challenges both myself and fans of these genres, as it often defies the expectations of each. The introduction of polyrhythms takes it even further, pushing the boundaries and making the music feel truly genre-agnostic. In this space, the emphasis shifts away from traditional structures, focusing more on rhythm and context than on genre conventions. This mix is a studio recording rather than a live set from an IT event because I feel that this style of music requires a more intentional approach to the context of an event. It hasn’t quite aligned with the atmosphere of my time slots—at least, not for now." — Craig Gonzalez @craig-gonzalezSam KDC - The MessengerMinù Jr - TSSYing Yang Audio - The MysticsVerdae | Estrato Aurora - KhoriAerae - ExsilioAH&N - AporiaArchypness - Stong - PaSciama - Emergent Formsʀaäʀ - K SimplexSciama - UnreleasedTampo - EnkiForest on Stasys - Alternated MindsetKonsudd - HeilenLemna - Hide and SeekKonduku - KarıncaHuman Space Machine - NagraSindh - MassaneReeko - Urmah 3
“I really love to do the opening set. It's a special responsibility to take an empty room and build the vibe, to prepare the audience for the night to come, to leave them wanting more. For this edition of Samhain, I began beatless and worked through organic creepers into techno slow jams, setting up BMG to shepherd us into the psychedelic techno assault to be wrought by Wata Igarashi.” — Erika @erikadotnet
There’s nothing like playing No Way Back. It’s such a unique environment. All the DJs look forward to their set all year, but then low key freak out before they play. Will they live up to expectations? Will they surpass their previous sets? You ask yourself, is this what feels like to throw lightning? You can sense the room expand and contract. Connecting to the audience and taking them on our journey is what it is all about. For this adventure I played on 4x CDJ-3000’s, a Pioneer V10 using 2 internal delays and a Strymon El Capistan pedal. I played some new tunes I had remastered, as well as a remix from Love Letters I had just completed on my new mixer, along with an edit of an unreleased version of Jordan Zawideh’s “Magellanic Cloud”, also mastered through my new mixer. What an amazing space to test these new tones. This was quite a sonic journey for me, and put me on an amazing trajectory where I feel like I’m constantly growing and improving and adding newly remastered music to every set. Looking forward to playing this coming weekend at No Way Back in NYC with the Bunker at the Chocolate Factory. No Way Back, let me set the scene. It’s 6AM and 66 degrees. The dance floor is packed, it's sweaty inside, and it’s about to storm outside again. Derek Plaslaiko is taking over the decks from BMG, getting ready to take the crowd on a journey through his mind — the mind of a rock & roller that’s itching to take the party to the next level. It’s No Way Back on May 26, 2024, Day 2 of Return to the Source at Tangent, in Detroit. Witness the pure insanity as Derek indulges the crowd with a no holds barred onslaught of pure party jams. Here is a recording from the up and coming AZA recorded at Midwest Freaks last December in Madison, where IT, Intellephunk and Remain in Night united for a secret warehouse party. How can you explain being lost in the Midwest and spending all night with non stop rave alchemy in a secret warehouse? This type of thing really fills you with hope for the future. AZA is techno as a living being. She was born in SF to parents who had immigrated from Trinidad and Tobago of the West Indies. She grew up within music, from the music of the Caribbean (ranging from Dub and Reggae to Calypso) to the sounds of Jazz and Funk, which led her to singing in operas resulting in a college scholarship for voice. Her greatest revelation came when her mother took her to Movement and she experienced techno. She says, “I feel blissful when I create and play techno. It takes me into inner space travel. It is a place where I feel safe. The possibilities feel so endless in my techno explorations.” Experience that techno bliss with this moment of AZA at Midwest Freaks. Swirling acid madness from the ever brilliant mind of Ridgewood, Queens’ Maxime Robillard, Love Letters’ “Falling Star EP” — the latest record on Interdimensional Transmissions — crawls inside your brain and takes many shapes as it brings you to ecstatic experiences on the dance floor. The vinyl is presented with 4 new songs, the A side containing the brain melter “Falling Star” that just builds and builds until reaching a rapturous release, and the frenetic “Tore”. The B side contains remixes of 2 originals — the first by No Way Back resident Mike Servito exploring his Detroit electro bass roots (and the first record in the IT catalog) for “Let the Bass Go”, and the second remix is of the jam “Morse” by IT founder BMG in his new studio, the first creation in the new room, moving towards a more holographic sound. The originals of “Let the Bass Go” and “Morse” are digital exclusives, making the digital version of this EP 6 tracks total. “This is a special one. On December 9, 2023 in a secret warehouse in Madison, Wisconsin, Interdimensional Transmissions teamed up with two titans of the Midwest, Remain in Night and Intellephunk, for 12 hour party called, appropriately, Midwest Freaks. Together, we curated the environment and the music, in the Cleanest Warehouse Of All Time (!!). I played after Aza and directly before @_bbmmgg_, it was like a special family reunion. I felt so comfortable playing there, so I wanted to share this set with everyone. Pictured here in front of Amber Gillen’s ‘Holy Parachute’, photo by BMG. ParachuteCon 23!” — @erikadotnetPlaylist –1. “Anevite Void Remixed” showcases some of the many diverse influences on Erika’s critically acclaimed second solo album “Anevite Void”. Here her ambient album closer “Wandering Mountain” transforms into two faces of techno, first the monolithic hypnotic slab of sound from Mike Parker then to a powerful peak time melodic banger from Wata Igarashi. The other side features a totally different take on her influences, with Eris Drew delivering her “Body Rock Remix” fusing a number of styles to push the highlight of Erika’s album to new heights, and Whodat discovering a deeper side to “Tomorrow’s Fires”. The digital version includes a slamming techno and electro fusion mix from Noncompliant of “Anion”. Erika began performing live in Ectomorph in 1997 when she was gifted a TR-606 by BMG and asked to join the group. This grew to her building her own studio, performing solo as Erika, collaborating with people like Jay Ahern and Noncompliant, and performing as a member of Circle of Live. Her depth of thought and clarity of vision has led to her mentoring people on live performance through the In Bloom platform, where she has made a large impact on many up and coming musicians. Erika is currently splitting her time between being based in Berlin and Detroit, is part of the triumvirate that runs Interdimensional Transmissions (BMG, Erika and Amber) that are releasing this record and produce legendary events such as No Way Back, Samhain and Return to the Source. She performs live and DJs and collaborates and oozes sonic truth in its many forms. Visit the “Anevite Void Remixed” in fall 2023.
Sometime after dawn, in my favorite warehouse in Detroit – the Tangent – I got to play my favorite party filled with all my favorite DJs – No Way Back. It felt like the time for the party to take a deep breath and refill its lungs. Playing directly after Patrick Russell and right before Erika, I took the moment to give the party what I felt it needed. First, rays of light, and then expansions and contractions in the sound. For the technique, I played on a Model One mixer with a Moog MF Delay pedal and 4 CDJs. Much of the music is upcoming on Interdimensional Transmissions, or things I have recorded in and remastered for DJing, especially to be played on the giant Jim Gibbons rig in this room, a process I call “quick masters” or “QM” for short. Some are very rare, some have never been playable in this context, or lost gems by my heroes, like CH BB. Some are new jams being played for the first time, like “Another Planet” where I jammed with Neel in his studio in Rome this spring on my 608 (modified 606) and 303. My favorite approach to NWB is to compose new music for it and test it there, it is such a special room. Recorded at 6am to 7:30am sometime in the wormhole of May 28, 2023 at No Way Back, day 2 of Return to the Source. Mastered for podcast by Jim Gibbons of AVS. This is the final dose of Pervocet. Pervocet is the brand name of the psychedelic music project from Patrick Russell and Jasen Loveland and is used to induce moderate to severe psychosis. The short-term effects of Pervocet last approximately 5-7 minutes and include Neighbor, Rawlo, L0V3 S1R3N, Phazy Susan and — in some people — a pleasant euphoria. This is one of many projects featuring Jasen Loveland aka Andrew Smith aka ∞ that IT will continue to release in honor and memory of him and his incredible and prophetic musical vision, showcasing his many Infinite Refractions. This project had begun years ago, and was finished with such care and precision by Patrick Russell that we are proud to release Pervocet 2 in sync with our annual No Way Back gathering in Detroit on May 29, 2023. Pressed at Archer Records, Detroit.Distributed by Clone.Colored vinyl available exclusively on Bandcamp.

Here is BMG at 9AM at No Way Back 2022, bridging the sounds after Erika and directly before Mike Servito, who was closing the party afterwards. In his own words: “It’s a very special time of the party, the sun has come up and there is total mental and physical freedom. Performing in this in-between time with 4 CDJs and a Model 1 with a Moog Delay pedal for effects is an amazing dream context, the first No Way Back after the lockdown. This time of night allowed me to explore all the sides of the power of being spaced out and feeling the thunder of the music, bouncing between genres and melding a new sound system music that references sonic hypnosis and liberation in its so many forms, something that could only happen at No Way Back. To be in this space together and sharing this new era together just felt totally magical, I felt cleansed afterwards, the set really reflects these feelings in the moment. Highlights include the world debut of Neel’s “Disco Quarantine”, Gay Marvine’s edit of “On the Run” by Pink Floyd, Ron Hardy’s edit of the Trammps “Soul Searchin' Time (Check Out Your Mind)”, new and upcoming music for IT.” Mastered by Jim Gibbons of AVS.
In SZ’s own words: I’m pleased to present a lil’ slice of my nearly 7hr set from No Way Back 2022. A wild ride that began with Vangelis and somehow meandered onto the CISCO hold theme?NWB, by far, is my favorite room to play as I get to truly stretch out and see all my friends at once. I hope to share a dance w you all v soon — Love is the message
Derek Plaslaiko at No Way Back May 29, 2022, night 2 of Return to the Source, a weekend at The Tangent. In his own words: “This was our first in-person NWB since before the pandemic hit. So, just that alone makes the whole night special. It was just SO amazing to have everyone in the same room again, going crazy to all these monster sets that everyone played. When I would look out from the stage, you could just see that everyone was moving, sweating and/or screaming for more. They were smiling and laughing and just so happy to be around people again. Specifically these people. The ones who come every single year and lose their minds alongside everyone else, without even thinking twice if they're going to go to the party, or not. I think everyone needed that party, myself included. There's just nothing else like it. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful we were able to do it over the internet during those lonely times, but there really is no proper substitute. This is Duck Trash’s set from Tomorrow’s Fires, a party celebrating the release of Erika’s “Anevite Void” album on February 25, 2023. Mix theme: After getting abducted by aliens, one must learn how to adapt & grow plants on an unfamiliar planet in outer space. It’s hard to overstate the transformative power of the American Underground. Things get lost when it’s just a systematic big business, all these special things that make the core essence so powerful and palpable. IT first encountered @ducktrash when BMG played for them in Indianapolis last September with Noncompliant at this exquisite dive bar called State Street Club with the most open minded crowd. It wasn’t what it looked like, it really transcended time and space. “Duck Trash is a queer techno & electro selector who believes in the healing power of the dance floor.” We couldn’t agree more, and we’re so glad they got to do their Detroit debut at Erika’s album release party. They are part of the fabric that makes the midwest so amazing, the true underground freaks.Tracklist:"Alien Encounter" - Mordio"Mortming" - Cibo Matto"Down" - Sunship"Illusions" - Roza Terenzi"In a Distant Light" - Stenny"Army of Me" - Bjork"Natural Disorder" - Filmmaker"Earwig" - Pearson Sound"Manks" - Beau Wanzer"Untamed" - Lemont"Broken Telephone" - Wata Igarashi"T.T.-F.F." - Maurizio"Identity Crisis" - Toumba"Wire" - Lurka"Earth Beat" - Yoshinori Sunahara"Repeat" - D. Intergalactic Gary is one of our favorite selectors, as his gift is to transcend the boundaries of genre. For this set, you can feel his inspiration as he plays his favorite music from far and beyond to close the ultra heady indoor room of An Interdimensional New Years 2022 at Marble Bar, directly after a mesmerizing set from Mozhgan & Solar. What we got was one of the finest sets anyone could ask for and the perfect way to bring in the transformational energy of the new year. We loved this set so much that we immediately had Jim Gibbons master it for the podcast release. Hailing from the Dutch West Coast scene, he is a denizen of IFM, and a Viewlexx veteran with an array of releases ranging from his own solo work to collaborations with I-F (The Parallax Corporation, The Conservatives). His focus on the decks is so deep and illuminated that he makes bridging many disparate genres and styles seem effortless. He easily places disco, early Detroit techno, acid, electro, house, techno and even further into a deeply hypnotic and compelling whole, taking your mind and body on a journey beyond the stars. A legendary set from a true cult hero.
For Erika’s second album “Anevite Void”, she explores her live process as it permeates everything she does, including documenting the process of life in the elaborate sci fi mythology she created. @erikadotnet began performing live in Ectomorph in 1997 when she was gifted a TR-606 by BMG and asked to join the group. “Anevite Void”, Erika’s new album, finds her organically writing songs for her live shows, allowing them to take shape through performance, and later recording them in the studio, making this the first album she has entirely written and produced on her own. Mixed by long time collaborator BMG, she finds this record as the launching point for a new process for her.Conceptually, this album was inspired by “the irregular life cycles created by three suns circling over a planetary organism that presents two major biomes: rocky crystalline desert, and deep layered forest, each of which exists above and/or below ground, depending on what phase the suns are in.” From this realm the album took shape. She also chronicled this concept in drawings but found this painting by Detroit puckish punk legend Nai Sammon perfectly visually explained the concept, and chose it for the cover. She describes “each track is about an organic process that occurs: acts of survival of the biomes, or what happens between them and the multitude of other beings that they host.”Erika is currently splitting her time between being based in Berlin and Detroit, is part of the triumvirate that runs Interdimensional Transmissions (BMG, Erika and Amber) that are releasing this record and produce legendary events such as No Way Back, Samhain and Return to the Source. She performs live and DJs and collaborates and oozes sonic truth in its many forms. Bileebob was living in the lofts at 1217 Griswold when I first met him, this is one of the seminal places that the post Music Institute Detroit scene grew out of. People who lived there performed or threw parties in their lofts for rent money, other people living at 1217 included Buzz Goree, the founders of Paxahau, De3n System. Bileebob’s an amazing and unique part of the Detroit scene, having created music and art for years, performing locally and internationally as a member of the Detroit Grand Pubahs and UR, releasing on Underground Resistance, and had a regular zine for so many years. When he sent us the promo for “Star Cross” from his personal Bandcamp page, we loved it, and for the second No Way Back stream both BMG & Derek ended up playing it. We just loved the song, so we asked him if we could give it the full release, and we had Derek Plaslaiko remix it. We’ve included an unreleased amazing tough electro mix of “Network”, a song currently on his Bandcamp page. Digitally we’ve included another more raw mix of “Network” and an after the after party 1217 kind of comedown jam “Club Kid Up All Night”.
Andy Toth casts a long shadow in the Detroit scene. From being co-founder of the Detroit Grand Pubahs to working as an engineer and mixer, he’s worked on so many records that you know but in his egoless way, didn’t know he was part of. Being the co-author of “Sandwiches” took him around the world, but more importantly it was the hold music for Mudgie’s, a legendary Detroit Deli run by another long standing denizen of the Detroit underground, Greg Mudge. Greg Mudge was a true pillar of our techno community in Detroit, from showing us the venue for the first leaky roof No Way Back, to throwing his own events and supporting great people. One of those people was Andy Toth, who he was constantly pressuring to release his music, and this became a major theme of Greg Mudge’s memorial. When Greg suddenly passed last September, some friends came in to DJ his memorial like Derek Plaslaiko. When it was Andy Toth’s turn he played only his own productions and we were all just so blown away. Mudgie was always asking Andy “what’s up with those tracks?” And this record is the answer, a testament to that thought, and to the deeply layered and detailed work of Andy Toth. Andy has created a uniquely dense Detroit Sci Fi trip through sound, with elements of acid, electro, techno that result in an advanced and mature adventure in sound, reflecting his roots in the Detroit scene, but pushing it into new hypnotic futures, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Andrew Smith aka Jasen Loveland aka infinity was the embodiment of the spirit of No Way Back and Return to the Source, his energy, his neon colors, his front and center nature was such a core element of these parties. In 2019 he showed up to the party with a shirt he ordered off the internet that was a collage of all these pictures he had done of the Interdimensional Transmissions logo, it was so over the top, no one could stop talking about it. The statement was so clear, he was here, and he was all about this. During the night almost every DJ played some of his music, I remember Derek Plaslaiko playing 5 of his songs that night. He was floating on air, I bumped into him on the dance floor and he was just glowing. It was like he was having a private concert of his own music with a few thousand friends. It was pure magic.
He became a part of these parties, creating art for them. During the streams and after I had lost my father, he made sure to call me all the time and check in. That really meant so much to me. We’d have long incredible discussions, sometimes very spiritual. When the first streaming No Way Back happened at the beginning of lockdown, he made these over the top animations for us of the shirts and products we were making. They were a hit in the stream and some are still on our instagram.
When we lost him only days before the 2021 stream, it was too much to process. Anger, sadness and just that incredible loss of a true head and magic spirit. So we broadcast this set he had recorded for Miguel Senquiz only a week before, and had Andrew Charles Edman process the video. A patch he created for Touch Designer was used for his and many videos in the No Way Back Streaming From Beyond 2021 broadcast. He was and always will be an integral part of what we do, and here we remember him with this video and mix, and have dedicated all of Return to the Source 2022 to him. Forever Jase.

Adam Arthur lives in rural Arkansas where he records with his massive Buchla modular on his Funktion One system. We’ve never met anyone just like him, we first met him on the floor at No Way Back, then he came to our debut at Berghain in 2014. It grew to playing for him in Memphis and people like Larry Heard and Chad White showing up to the party. IT released a record from Adam last year, and he participated in the NWB stream, this is a recording of that set. That went so well that we’ve asked him to join us this year in the Outer Space Room at No Way Back as we return to physical reality at The Tangent, as part of Return to the Source 2022.
In his own words:
“I was in shock and disbelief when asked to perform in the Outer Space room for No Way Back. I am so grateful to the IT team for giving me the opportunity to traverse this sonic realm where I feel most at home.
My objective in the studio is always to create an immersive atmosphere or environment in which to lose my sense of self. This approach only became clear to me after I discovered the Buchla, which I use in this episode, along with a few other analog instruments. Every live set I create is fresh and unique for each occasion. The parts are not separate tracks, but a continuous, sonic deep-dive.
Again, I want to thank the IT team for the amazing opportunity and trust to make this. I hope to create a new world for 2022.” — Adam Arthur

For a good while, I did not think No Way Back would be a streaming event for the second year in a row, but as it became clear that was what was happening, I had to start thinking about this set. This was the opening set of the 36 hour stream, which gave me a lot of space to build things up incredibly slowly. There were a few things I knew I really wanted to include like the DJ Plead, Plastikman off "Consumed", the two Kocmoc tracks, and "Untitled #35" in tribute to Jasen Loveland. The rest was just connecting those dots to make it all work. I recorded this in one take by the stream outside my house in the Hudson Valley. I thought I would have shade for the whole 3 hours but found myself in direct sun halfway through as I started recording later than planned. The sun was sort of melting my brain and made the CDJ displays really hard to see but somehow I think it just added to the vibe. Deeply looking forward to finally reconnecting with everyone in 3D space at Tangent this Memorial Day weekend. — Bryan Kasenic

"No Way Back is a big part of my life — the music, the people, the ethos, the vibe. Being asked to play was the ultimate honor, and I knew I needed to share something focused and personal. There are many great records out in the world, but only a handful of artists who produce nothing but great records. Norm Chambers is one of them. There are oceans of texture, color, and depth within each release. The decision to dive deep and showcase only his music across two hours was obvious from the start. I can close my eyes and imagine these tracks blaring across Tangent Gallery and think ‘This is something the world needs to hear.’ Endless gratitude to the Interdimensional Transmissions crew, Norm, and all the amazing people I’m excited to reunite with this May." — Vicki Siolos @vickisiolos

NWB weekly podcasts continue with a jacking otherworldly set from Mike Servito — featured as part of No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond 2021. As the unknown loomed so large for all of us in the last of our major streams, Servito brought a graceful power of mystery to the grooves he laid down.
In his own words: "I was always fond of otherworldly sounds, alien textures, and musical escapism. Acid has always been a sonically, alien interaction and a greater part of the musical fabric of No Way Back for me. The main objective was simply to get lost in the groove." — Mike Servito @mikeservito

A live show for No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond 2021 from Outer Space Room residents Organic Dial, a duo of John Elliott and Drew Veres, true midwest freaks hailing from Cleveland. In their own words: “We wanted to make a set for No Way Back that had an infinite feeling, with sounds sort of running into one another like soft waves on a lake. Many of the tracks here were made to go on indefinitely, like loops but with some sparser hand played adornments. We stitched the set together carefully to play like a mixtape, something that could repeat over and over and never get tired sounding. Organic Dial tracks are made by spending a lot of time listening to things loop until we find a combination of shape and melody that makes sense. Many of these pieces have been in the incubator for some time and will likely take on a different form at some point. As we had to do a live stream for No Way Back this year we were hoping we could project the same feeling of being alone in a dark corner at Tangent Gallery, being bathed by the sparse lights peering through holes in a hanging parachute late into the night. Sound everywhere, eyes shut, mind wide open.”

Doing the streams was an incredible release in a time of social separation, it allowed us to get together and show our growth, changes in approach, changes to body, changes to mind. The catharsis of a No Way Back set allows for a kind of spiritual rebirth.
There’s been many phases to my approach to DJing technically, but one constant has been combining the love of so many genres and aspects of this music with live production techniques, the mind that comes from creating music combining with the mind of the DJ, deep mixing and recontextualization and of finding ways to unlock codes that release special energy and emotions.
For this set I combined the Model One and the modular, where I had a special patch set up to create fascinating delays that evolved and changed in ways plug ins or pedals can’t. Using CDJs with the Model One as the mixer, the modular as an effects send, and a Moog delay pedal as the other send, allowed me to shape and control the music in ways that create new ideas that accent the concepts more fluidly.
A real vivid example of this is when I played DJ Nobu and layered Tina Turner from the then recent documentary “Tina” where she was demonstrating a few Buddhist chants she would do to calm herself down in her tumultuous relationship with Ike, looping those, reversing them with the CDJs and processing them with the modular to make a whole new floating hypnotic piece containing so much deep emotion and thought on such a higher level.
Doing the streams allowed for a really liberating take on the flow of a set, having more time to play a wider array of stuff, and no pressure to keep it all dance floor, allowing for the ability to tell a longer story. Our community is so strong and so thriving on the stream, it felt so special to be able to show so much more of ourselves.
I can’t wait to bring this energy and perspective to our first in person No Way Back since 2019. Until then, I’m glad to share this moment of catharsis and transition with all of you, I hope you enjoy and that it helps your brain and spirit soar.

“My set for No Way Back last year was a difficult one to pull off. On one hand, I was fortunate enough to be able to record the mix inside Globus. This is one of my favorite rooms in the whole world to play in: a combination of a phenomenal DJ booth, a great sized room and flawless sound, not to mention the fact that it is inside the legendary Tresor Berlin. But, on the other hand, I had learned only the day before that my good friend Andrew "Jasen Loveland" Smith-Rassmusen had committed suicide — around 36 hours before I was set to record this. Tresor allowed me to have a few close friends to be there for the recording, and Andrew was supposed to be one of those friends. Like most people who attend, NWB was a very spiritual thing for Andrew and his spirit was an integral part of NWB. To think that it will go on without him physically being there guts me. I miss him so much every day, and it really will sting to not have him there going forward.
With regards to the mix, obviously that was weighing on me heavily. So, the set is by no means my cleanest. So, keep that in mind while listening, please. Musically, there are a few tributes here. I definitely wanted to play a few of Andrew's tracks, like I normally do (especially at NWB), and there are 6 of them in there. I also wanted to kick the mix off as a sort of tribute to BMG's old distribution company that he ran at the end of the 90's called Star 67. I used to work there with him, boxing up shipments to send globally back in a time when people bought WAY more vinyl than these days. Star 67 was responsible for releasing so many of my favorite jams from that time period, and I was feeling nostalgic about that time period in my life and wanted to kick the mix off playing some of those records, as well as a couple older records that I felt inspired the Star 67 era. Another goal was to play the 5 tracks I had just finished that will make up a release for The Bunker sometime this year. And, of course, a bunch of my favorites, old and new.
As I said, it's not my cleanest work. But, I feel like it encapsulates what No Way Back means to me. I hope you enjoy it.”

A rare freeform set from Carlos Souffront, archived from the Outer Space Room at No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond 2021. Going far beyond the boundaries of the dance floor and deep into his record collection, we get to experience a side of Carlos seldom seen. Carlos is a rare DJ where everything he does is just so thoughtful and layered, so it is really amazing to go on this adventure with him where we can hear so many deep and heady takes on outsider music presented with such intention, it is simultaneously gourmet, bizarre and perfect. This is Carlos playing directly after Scott Zacharias in the stream as the second set in the Outer Space room, directly before we transitioned to the live block that included Raica, Suzanne Ciani, Organic Dial, Fronte Violetta and Adam Arthur.

Bay Area heroes Mozhgan & Solar at No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond 2021, going deep and hypnotic in the early morning as they bridge the sound of the No Way Back cavernous dance floor with the heady beginnings of the Outer Space Room, playing directly between Mike Servito and Scott Zacharias. This is pure high end psychedelia, perfectly executing their concept of mesmerizing throbbing, burning and jacking jams with such grace, conscious intention, deep skill and passion. The styles and eras that they fuse is just so exciting, there’s nothing else quite like this — dripping with vibe. Heavy and heady.

“The 2021 NWB stream was much different than the year before. For me, it felt like we were getting closer to reopening, all of us so ready for the party, and being honored with the opportunity to compose a 5-hour narrative meant I needed to reflect that energy and represent the dance floor we all love so much. I wanted to keep it heady like 2020 but focus more on what it would feel like to play that long at Tangent, returning to my roots and playing numerous eternal cuts from Chicago, Detroit, Berlin, Cologne, Rotterdam, Helsinki, and beyond. Praise the acid...enjoy!” — Patrick Russell @ptrckrssll

"This set is dedicated to the late Harold Budd, whose minimalist and often melancholic compositions on piano will forever remain influential. I began and ended the set with a selection of favorites from his solo and collaborative works.
Special thanks to IT for giving me space to thrive as a DJ at No Way Back, and to my creative partner – Candace Price, for creating quite the wondrous abyss through her incredible visual direction. <3 "

The weekly podcasts of No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond 2021 begins with a deeply psychedelic journey from Scott Zacharias. In his own words:
“I would like to thank IT, Ian Clark and the UFO Factory in Detroit for hosting. Eerily, I had made a reference to ‘The Shining’ and empty venues, but as soon as the monitors warmed up, I was immediately lost again in the sound. I had recently been going through some old boxes of 12s and began ripping them back into rotation. A bit self indulgent, a bit nostalgic, definitely … rusty. For everyone that tuned in, checking in now or plan on joining the dance this coming May in Detroit — a digital kiss. Remember, the music is bigger than all of us and love is truly the message. — SZ”

The hivemind of Ectomorph made its DJ world club debut at Samhain XXI, a collaboration of BMG & Erika on the Model 1 and effects. This is a recording of their closing set in Detroit on Saturday October 30th at Marble Bar.
Adam Arthur is the kind of character you just couldn’t make up. I first met him while he was dancing in front of me while I played at No Way Back, back when it was at 1515 Broadway. He later asked me to come play his living room in Memphis, “I have a Funktion One sound system” he said. His friends were pretty cool so I said why not? During my set on the dance floor in this small room I saw Larry Heard and Chad White dancing. The next time I played his living room, Larry Heard came over to Adam’s the day before the party with a USB stick around his neck featuring some of his 10,000 unreleased songs, I had specially requested to hear some of his 303 songs, since he had a 303 for a few years but never released anything with it. He also played me a NYE party ad with Robert Owens improvising vocals that was so amazing I had to hear it like 10 times. Adam eventually released on Alleviated and later invited me to play a private pool party once he moved out of the city, but I couldn’t make it. He lives in rural Arkansas where he records music with his massive Buchla system, as he did for this year’s Outer Space Room part of the No Way Back stream, doing a stunning ambient performance directly after Suzanne Ciani’s set. Like I said, he’s someone you just couldn’t make up.
His day job is putting people to sleep before life saving surgeries, which is perfect because his music lives somewhere in the states between sleeping and waking, a perfect psychedelic dream logic. His tunes like “Down Down Falling Down” are pure somnambulist groove, a uniquely bizarre form of hypnosis that drifts through the dream state into our realm and back, deeply interdimensional. The loose and dirty power of “When I Touch You” still surprises me every time I hear it, the most gentle yet powerful and compelling sleazy house song I can imagine. Many of his sides are represented here, including his experimental formless ambient side in the shape of “Tearing the Television Sky” and the digital bonus track “The Forbidden Creature”. “The Bard’s Tale” closes the EP and balances his hypnotic dream state logic with Azerbaijani Mugham music in something that feels like it would be equally at home on Livity Sound. Live the dream with his debut release on Interdimensional Transmissions.

She always brings a fresh sound and vision to each performance, we look forward to seeing what she does for the Return of I.T. next week. In her own words: “So really the only things I was thinking about during that set were trying to build on the vibe and get a little weird but also hopefully invite the new year in with positive vibes in hopes that it would be a good one. We all know how that last part turned out, but I feel like the set at least had some hopefulness in its bones.”
The remix record for Israel Vines' "And Now We Know Nothing" debut album, featuring Regis & Simon Shreeve doing a burning hot take as CUB, BMG & Erika delivering an outer space hypno drum groove as ECTOMORPH, Sean & Katie Rose O'Sullivan doing a deep techno take with wave influences and vocals as FURTHER REDUCTIONS, and a futuristic take from Standards & Practices and Common Name cofounder KEN MEIER, who also designed the whole triptych, including the iconic album cover. Thus we bring LA, Birmingham, Detroit, New York and Seoul together for the final chapter of Eye Teeth and the final piece of this triptych by Israel Vines on Interdimensional Transmissions. This ends Eye Teeth, it has been a wonderful run. Long live the new flesh!

Samhain XX was an experiment in streaming during an incredibly dark and uncertain time. The idea was since we couldn't get together physically, we could get our whole community together on a stream in a totally immersive environment that allowed for things that wouldn’t be possible to happen in the normal material state of events. To make it unique to its medium, and to therefore look beyond boundaries and travel distance and normal event times and all the other things that limit the possibilities in the real world. This allowed us to put together an over 30 hour dream line up with so many inspirations and heroes. Impossible things like having people from all over the world in a single stream, like Wata Igarashi from Japan, or Azu Tiwaline from the Sahara by way of France, or Solar from SF, or Eris Drew from deep in the T4T LUV NRG woods, Danny Daze in Miami or Clark Price in Pittsburgh and so on. So we were more than ecstatic that one of our favorite producers who happens to reside in London agreed to participate: Forest Drive West. His music is stellar and moves in so many directions, it is truly an honor to have his set close our weekly releases / rebroadcasts of the Samhain XX series. We can only hope these experiments will help us mutate to a more interesting future.

"I recorded this mix last fall at a really low point. I needed to feel heat in my body and to try to transform my frustrations into something positive through the music. The set starts fully ecstatic and hectic with lots of deck fussin' and cuts, but it settles into what I jokingly call the "Spa Eris" sound. In like a lion and out like a lamb my Mom used to say. I wanted to end gently, not just 'cause I figured we all needed it, but also out of respect for the other players and programming that day, which was sprawling and magical." — @eris-drew

"It was really a surprise and such a great pleasure to receive an invitation from Interdimensional Transmissions Detroit. While speaking with Erika, she said to me : "Regarding the style -- was kind of hoping for something slower/weirder/more experimental" - (Big SMILE on my face) As it was especially for Samhain, I decided to celebrate the Invisible and go in healing sound material for starting, and then some ritual and ceremonial elements, imagining different steps in a dark night inner trip. The idea was to accompany a sort of meditation with the body in a slow and raw movement to an altered conscious state. At the end, you got rid of everything. Ready for a new cycle.
Even if it was quite strange to record something alone in my studio, destined to some "online" people, utterly, as it's one of the best places for me to feel connected, this set was truly an inner reflection of my person at this period of time. And I really enjoyed sharing this moment, particularly with the lovely chat people during the retransmission :-)
Hope this one will resonate in your heart.
Thank you again and Much Love to Interdimensional Transmissions from Detroit, — @azu-tiwaline"

“Like others have said - this moment in time was really difficult being the first winter in the thick of the pandemic. Feeling like a never-ending vortex of bad news, isolation and despair, this event couldn’t have come at a more necessary time for me. Not having been able to express myself through music in such a long time and given this opportunity gave me a feeling of electricity. Decking out a living room with black netting and even carving a pumpkin with the IT logo, I wanted to actually be there mentally.
Putting together this live set was a huge honor and task for me. IT parties have had such a huge impact on my sound as an artist, I felt an ecstatic amount of inspiration that had built up over the years and I wanted to capture the relationship of the midwest freak techno sound to my own and come up with a storyline of all the influences meshed together. At times it's simultaneously chaotic, scary, pretty, fun and psychedelic. Listening back this is definitely the soundtrack to the weird shit that plays in my mind all the time. Take a ride and enjoy, we’ll all be together soon.
with love, @sepehr-a”
"One of the most difficult aspects of the last 13 months has been the complete lack of sound systems, which define the spaces where I both forged and maintain my relationship with techno. Proper dancefloors cocoon you in sound, granting freedom of body, mind, and soul, allowing for a completely individual experience with music, even moments of transcendence, while surrounded by some abstract, shifting mixture of friends and strangers. Pandemic delivered the exact opposite of this freedom, with lockdowns and isolation, fear and anxiety.
7 months in, my memories of being enveloped by sound, anonymous in a crowd, felt so distant; my connection to this music I love so dearly was deeply eroded. Where it was once fun to DJ at home as a means to invoke the dancefloor, I could no longer summon those feelings; trying to play music for myself, alone, on small speakers, left me feeling disconnected and confused. Faced with creating a set for Samhain, a task I would normally welcome with joy, honor, and a sense of purpose, instead filled me with dread, apprehension, and a feeling of being hopelessly lost.
Putting this set together was the most difficult creative exercise I have ever engaged in, I never struggled so much in my life to DJ. I forced myself to listen through music, assemble a collection of tunes, and finally to record a set, doing my best to summon missing feelings and connect to the lost spaces that hold so much meaning. This experience was so troubling that it would be the last mix I made in isolation.
6 months later, vaccinations are beginning to become a reality, and while my beloved dancefloors are still a ways off, things feel much less hopeless than they did in the autumn. Listening back to this mix fills me with a deep yearning for what we are all missing, and also hope for our future. I look forward so incredibly much to the day we can dance together again!!! and I can't wait to see you all.

“An essential part of my musical/creative practice comes from being asked to perform live in front of people. For better, or worse, I stubbornly almost always compose music specifically for exhibition in the last 10 years or so. Anything I release recordings of comes exclusively from recording creation sessions for live performance. For six months, without any live music performances my brain fully switched to essential functions such as remodeling my house, and then finally going back to “essential” (capitalist) work in the field, devastating any true creative work. The only musical action going down was strictly theoretical, finally after long stressful days of dodging virus particles in PPE out in the “Wild West” of rugged individualist Michigan. I could only bring myself to learn, noodle, experiment in the brief exhausted hour or so before passing out to start all over again the next day. Then BMG called about getting a live set for Samhain XX.
Building simple cybernetic neurons from passing complex analog voltage information through non-linearities drawing inspiration from Guy Hobsbawm’s recent video series interpreting Roland Kayn’s (and other’s) work in feedback, but not in a strict sense. I set strict melodic frameworks based on my own harmonic experiments from the previous few years to interact with chords and melodies. The single note base rhythm extrapolated throughout the piece came from a DJ set I “peeped real quick” immediately before laying my set down because I heard I’d be following Solar. I also set up a few musique concrete reels to weave in with the analog and digital synthesizers. There was also one element of human voice used. Listening back the Samhain set represents the peak of my continuing personal trauma based in realizations of human nature and interaction and I hoped to express a sense of connection with reasonable compassionate yet inzane people all over, who miss the rave and long for the rhythm of life smashed together in one heartbeat.”

“Preparing for Samhain XX was quite a surreal experience as we were heading into the dimming days of the year during the darkest times of our generations. I was asked to play a 3 hour session that listening back on reflects the powerful feelings and emotions of those anxiety ridden times. The set sort of moves through 3 parts: the first is being sucked down the rabbit-hole, the second portion moves into the chaos and disintegration, and the final section is a deep inhale/exhale and a glimmer of hope. This might be a way to approach it for those not inclined to listen to the full 3 hours. On that note it’s not all doom and gloom and I had some fun sneaking in some odd balls and a few samples in honor of All Hallows’ Eve.
In such times of solitude and inner-reflection these special moments like Samhain XX gave us a sense of community and togetherness even though we were all worlds apart. Thanks to all involved for creating this sanctuary in the eye of the storm.”

"An important part of touring is the connections you make with different people when travelling around the world. And when going to America, a big part of that experience has been connected to the people around Interdimensional Transmissions and The Bunker NY. While we couldn’t be together in person, I was very glad to be part of Samhain XX streaming online. The set was recorded at my home in Tokyo, but I tried to play how I might have played if I was with everyone in Detroit. Soon enough we’ll be together again, in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this recording. Thanks to all involved and take care, @wata."
“I worked through a lot in these 2 hours. While my mixing may have been a bit shaky at times, it was honest and mirrored my spirit trying to find hope amidst some difficult darkness. I really used these 2 hours to explore more styles and sounds to try to find unlikely friends, of course always channeling the midwest. Being able to record these streams at Good Room has been critical. They really stepped up for us, giving us a home to work through that dance floor therapy we’ve all been stripped of over the last year. While it's never easy to look out to an empty dance floor, I have personally felt like these sets are placeholders for us to fill these rooms again. Whether playing or watching these streams, they have been essential for me as an artist and ultimately as a family member of our underground community.” — @laurenflax

“Being asked to do sets for occasions like Samhain is like being asked what do I want for my birthday; it's a gift to have full reign on dread. I honestly couldn't say why I love dread in a lot of the music I play, maybe years of living with intense anxiety have made it feel more like a home than anything. So it was a real treat to revel in that sound for this set, while having some moments of groove and off kilter movement. “My intentions with this mix were to let the listener dive into the ethereal side of the frequency spectrum. Focusing on FM synthesis, polyrhythms, and the search for friendly entities. I wanted to show a bit of my studio so had a friend come over to help me record with proper video. IT has always been a huge influence in my life so I was honored when they asked me to be part of this event. "For this Samhain set I aptly found myself wrestling with transition in my personal life. My housing situation was in flux and mind/patience thoroughly worn down from a year of society's hyper performative fixation on an always present Black struggle (made more dire by a pandemic). With the ancient origins of this holiday marking transition and a collision of existential planes I wanted to play from within my situation in that same manner as a means of closing the door on it in my own way. I wholeheartedly believe 'the only way out is through' and with this drummy widening gyre I wanted to present an illusive path..." — @adab

Today we launch our Samhain XX weekly podcast series, with archives of all the sets performed during the streaming event. We begin the series with a set from BMG.
video: https://youtu.be/gxDV5W7C9hI
BMG on Samhain: "It's the Celtic holiday that Halloween spawns from. It was the loop point, the new year. Ancient people dealt with grey areas in strange ways, the change between years caused this loose period existing between the end and beginning. This is where it gets interesting: they believed dimensions were colliding in a sort of interdimensional crosstalk, where the planes of the living and the dead were touching, so the dead could walk the earth. A way to convene with your ancestors, and a great reason to burn fires and scare your friends and neighbors. There's way more to it, most of it can't be written, it can only be felt, which is usually elusive but somehow easy at this time of year."
The original recurring party for Interdimensional Transmissions is Samhain, celebrating the ancient Celtic holiday that acknowledges the loop point of time, and the origin of IT. Had there not been Covid-19 the plan killer, we would have had the 20th anniversary of this party in Detroit, with Eris Drew headlining. As it stood, we celebrated Samhain XX with an over the top stream celebrating so many facets that we find fascinating, a place for total immersion into interesting music and cutting edge thoughts for a whole weekend at our favorite time of year. This was broadcast continuously for over 30 hours on October 31 — November 1, 2020.
If the world is going to burn, this is what we want to hear, who we want to be surrounded by. Thank you so much to every artist for sharing your art and musical vision. And thank you to Jim Gibbons (AVS) for mastering all the audio, Andrew Charles Edman for the psychedelic visuals and all the art layers from Amber Gillen. And thank you to @thebunkerny for hosting the stream.
"I approached this set differently than I normally would when opening the Outer Space room at No Way Back. Given this unique moment of mass hysteria, the intention when selecting music was to create an escape beyond reality. The streaming format provided a captive portal for the audience, similar in ways to the cavernous room within Tangent Gallery, except this acted more as a direct feed into the mind. The accompanying video by Candace Price lends heavily to the cinematic nature of the set, creating a strange and textural world, like being locked within a dream." — Grant Aaron @insideout

"The week prior to creating this set, I decorated my space and placed my mind inside the powerful and quite honestly life-changing memories I hold of No Way Back; the curiosity, the cavern-like environment, the audio experimentation and boundary crossing evoking responses that vary from wandering honestly and freely inside one's thoughts to the complete obliteration of said thoughts and letting the wisdom of the body perform its work on us. My intention with this ambient set (all of my sets..) was to create currents, gradually, with just enough whispers and fragments to be subtle guides and invitations for you to imbue the sounds with your own meaning, to add your own messages and experience to the currents. If there was ever any lesson to myself about how incomplete my work feels without this crucial element, it was the necessity this year to communicate from a distance, via video instead of a real-time space. And how it felt most complete again when we gathered together virtually in the live stream, being curious, being supportive and present, sharing psychedelic gifs, chatting, laughing and crying! So there it was - it happened, we connected and transcended the medium. I will always hold this year's event dear to me for reminding us of what we still have. Infinite gratitude towards Interdimensional Transmissions and The Bunker New York for being such enablers, to the dedication and brilliance of the artists (and the humbleness in their brilliance) and you!" — Antenes @antenes

"No Way Back provides the single most important outlet for me year after year. I've been given the task of closing duties consecutively, both an honor and a privilege. The experience personally, is sublime. It is also not possible to play the way I play without the energy of the room, the energy of my fellow NWB artists, and all participants. A moment of synergy where the whole is truly greater than the sum of the parts.
2020 has been a challenging time for us all, and given the situation, it was inevitable that things would come out different for this year. Playing earlier this year between The Bunker fam, Bryan Kasenic and Derek Plaslaiko, The only desire needed was to steer a handful of tracks in the right direction as best I know. I was working on 2 different mixes in the same week so my mindset was that of history, and relevance. A sound rooted in Detroit DNA and Midwest infatuation. This is music from beyond, music so timeless, that we must continue to honor its significance. A return to the source once again."
Enjoy the mix." — Mike Servito @mikeservito

TEN YEARS IN TWO HOURS
In essence, I’m considering this mix as an end to the beginning of my work as a recording artist. This marks the closure of my first decade of producing music, and my 25th year as a DJ. I wanted to make a solid mark in the here and the now to give myself the space to shed some skin and look completely and entirely forward. The album is its own personal benchmark, and this mix – which includes my entire discography thus far – places the last ten years of production projects under one solid roof where they can live together forever. It was important to me to include the collaborations, remixes, and remixes of my songs by other producers that have been such an integral part of my work to this point. Gratitude and respect to all parties involved in each of those sonic escapades.
Below is an alphabetical listing of the songs included in the mix - some in their entirety, and others stripped to their bones and rearranged for a fresh look. As my friend Ken told me at the beginning of the project, this was the only way to guarantee that the end result would be a mix that only I could make.
So far, so good, so what? Enjoy irresponsibly.

“I picked-up a lot of interesting records on tour in 2019 with the intent to share them for the first time at Tangent in 2020 at our yearly gathering. I spent the days before NWB listening to these records and thinking about which I felt were most powerful to share in that moment of missing you all. As I prepared I thought of what I would have played if we were all together in that room, the system tuned for our intentions.
The night of the recording, Octa, Q and I built a little homage to the event in the basement of the cabin. I ate mushrooms. And I played the records too loud. The selections were meant to reflect my evolving take on the NWB sound. As usual my interest in genres is mostly in trying to blend them, so this mix is an ecstatic collage of electro techno post-dubstep hip-house-informed psychedelic turntable chaos and breaks.
Watching the stream live with so many of you meant a lot to me. It’s hard to put into words how much I would like that experience of togetherness right now.
Thank you to all who watched live including those who donated, your support was extremely generous. It made me feel more secure during a truly difficult time.
I am happy to supply the names of any tracks people don’t know.” — @eris-drew
“No Way Back is a very meaningful event to us and we were humbled at the chance to be a part of it. Playing virtually, it was most important to us to keep the feeling of being in Tangent Gallery in mind. NWB conjures a deeply contemplative mindset that we tried to channel. The quintessential experience for us is leaving our bodies through sound in the Outer Space room — given the controls temporarily, we played with us lying on that floor in mind.” — Farplane (sold & Hi-Vis)

“When I first began my Imaginary Softwoods project in 2007, I had imagined different combinations of spaces that could be translated into sounds. This method of indoor (or in-mind) travel had been learned from my instances of combining mind-altering chemicals with sounds. In my early years, I would argue with myself to the point where whatever I was seeing was completely transformed or altered into something that was definitely what was in what I call "Consensus Based Reality", or the reality that occurs at lower vibration frequencies. Over the years I've trained myself to manifest entire environments - places, rooms, worlds, all triggerable by a single sound or mood. I can see the square footage of a space, the colors. I can smell the smells, decipher different wood types, past, present and future life energies and everything that encompasses the gauzy infinity of rainbowed aether. My favorite aspect of this is that I have no say in what it is I am manifesting, and whatever appears just appears. I am blessed by these experiences, I take none of them for granted and everything contained in these scenes are gifts. A recurring theme from my earliest visions is a Bronze Lamp. I will spare you the details of how great it looks, but something worth noting is that the lightbulb on it is actually burnt out and needs replacing. Anyhow, I modeled this particular set of music for No Way Back after my experiences with this lamp and the energy it gives me. Some of the tracks appeared as studio versions on my "So Extra Bronze Lamp" digital EP a few months later, while a good portion of this performance is exclusive to No Way Back set (and will remain as such). 2020 has been a year no one alive will ever forget, and as many went into lockdown mode I had an opportunity to develop these visions and present them as part of an absolutely incredible livestream event, and now here again for your enjoyment.” — John Elliot, Imaginary Softwoods

“In the lead up to the due date for our No Way Back sets, I fell ridiculously sick with the flu. I barely was able to get out of bed for about 6 days. As soon as I was able, I rushed to my friends Will & Sarah Joy's flat here in Berlin to lay down this recording. There wasn't much time to prepare, so I just picked the tracks I wanted to use, and as the great Claude Young once said "I just turned on the machines and they told me where to go!" On my mind the whole time was the utter turmoil going on in the U.S, maybe even more than what we were living through here in Germany, which heavily influenced my selections of music. I knew for sure that I wanted to open with that nthng track, but the decision to play "This Is America" at the end was made only a minute or 2 before I played it. I had wanted to play it 2 years earlier at NWB, but chickened out for some weird reason. Now felt like the perfect time. Magically, it matched the energy of the global protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd only about 18 hours later. The note I wrote at the end was also straight from the heart. At the time, I was betting we would all be descending onto Detroit for Memorial Day 2021. Unfortunately, I don't know if that is something to bet on now — only time will tell, I guess. Until then, enjoy this set (and all the others that I.T. is releasing from this broadcast!) and hopefully we will see each other safely on a dancefloor somewhere and sometime in the future — the sooner, the better in my opinion. "I have been tasked many times with opening No Way Back. It's quite fun to play with the energy in the room as it goes from empty and chill to full and heaving over the course of my set. This year was obviously very different with NWB being a stream where my set started at noon instead of 11pm. I had been quarantining upstate for months with my friend Otis Mass (Massive Original), and we decided to pair his visuals to my set to do something special with the format. Without any real pressure to get a dancefloor moving, I decided to start things off very slowly and build things up for Mike Servito's set. It is always an honor to be a part of No Way Back, and this year was no different. I was quite impressed with how well the stream managed to translate the energy of what I feel is the world's best party." — Bryan Kasenic @thebunkerny

Debut album from Israel Vines on Interdimensional Transmissions, a futuristic fusion of UK bass, post-jungle breakbeats and techno with the rhythmic flex of Detroit Electro.
LA-based artist and DJ Israel Vines debut album, "And Now We Know Nothing," on IT, his first long player after a series of stellar 12"s on Eye Teeth. Across its nine tracks, Vines channels the spirit of undulating UK techno and bass — think Bristol and London — into a form and shape all his own, indebted to his American Midwestern roots. Rolling beats, uncommon rhythms, and club-floor sensibility paired with a polyrhythmic touch. 2xLP, in a unique picture sleeve, made in Detroit.

For Mozhgan's inaugural set at No Way Back, we used her magic energy to bridge the power of the Patrick Russell wild and heady wormhole experience with the undefinable freeform sleaze of Scott Zacharias, who began the Outer Space room. Her vibe is deep and mysterious, playing the music at a slightly slower tempo than others which just adds to the mesmerizing nature of her grooves, and highlights a profound emotional connection to the music. A perfect addition to the sound. — BMG

No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond
A 36+ hour take on No Way Back, with 24 hours of the No Way Back room residents and 12+ hours of the Outer Space room immediately following. An excess of the mindmelting wormhole dance experience followed by many hours of floating in space and beyond. When we considered podcasting some sets, we decided to just release them all, one week at a time, in an order different than their original broadcast, with the concept of bringing further ideas with the continuum to light.
For us the toughest moment of the pandemic shut down was the thought that we could not gather on Memorial Day weekend for our annual rite of No Way Back. We need our community now more than ever, to connect and to feel free, in a world of shifting real and unreal realities, sequestered in isolation, how can we get together? Time feels different now, we have more patience for everything, so we applied that space for exploration to the sets at No Way Back, extending them to 3 hours so the DJs can fully explore their ideas.
The Electrifyin' Mojo would say "if you reach the end of your rope, just tie a knot and don’t let go" and this stream and podcasts are our knot. This was the first ever NWB without a defined space, without the transformational art of Amber Gillen and crew, let's hope we can get together in the future safely. Grab a little bit of netting or a parachute, turn on some red lights, move into another dimension. Please stay safe and live to dance another day.
BMG on NWB:
"Even without the possibility of getting physically together, they couldn't stop No Way Back. No Way Back is a state of mind, a yearly ritual that takes us back to the source, and the DJs reconvene with that source and allow it to take different shapes in their hands, from their minds to yours. To perform without the crowd, how is that possible? To perform without the ritual space created by the art and intentions of Amber and crew, how is that possible? To have the music connect without Jim Gibbons massive sounds system holding you steady, enveloping you, being expertly dialed in with each new tune, how is that possible? Well, this year's impromptu NWB stream proved that the impossible is possible, that this type of connection can happen virtually if care is taken at every step, like mastering the audio and processing the visuals into a psychedelic space that can free the mind.
This set was a sort of rebirth for me, after great personal tragedy and losing so much, while I did draw inspiration from the history of NWB, I did not feel limited by it. This set is more about where I want to see things go, my hopes for the future. It was also huge for me as it was my first time performing at No Way Back on CDJs, without Ableton, and this was both incredibly liberating and helped me hone my vision."

"No Way Back has, hands down, the best audience in the world. You all love music as much as I do, and are out there to hear what the DJs have to share with you, with open minds and hearts. You have guided me through a few of the most off-the-rails and out there sets I've ever done, so trying to play for you from my attic without our feedback loop presented a whole new challenge. In the absence of a human audience, I asked myself: How do I bridge the ecstatic witchy energy of Eris Drew and the hazy cerebral science of Patrick Russell, in a way that works for home listening (and cats)? The answer is found in this set, where I picked out a first track and winged it from there, navigating loose playlists and the metadata of unknown tracks, using the concept of "Eris to Patrick" rather than your energy to guide me." — Erika @erikadotnet =^^=

“One of the more significant aspects of No Way Back sets throughout the years has been an acknowledgement of older and sometimes near-forgotten music, infusing curve balls, and marrying that to the context of a modern audience. Adapting to a streaming format presented a challenge and rare opportunity to build on that concept and push it further. The lack of dance floor translated into less concern for tempo and constant energy feedback, while an extended set length allowed for development of a stretched, more calculated narrative. Accentuated by the accompanying video, these elements resulted in a deep and hazy theme that plays with the perception of time.” — Patrick Russell

Artist: Eris Drew Title: Fluids of Emotion Label: Interdimensional Transmissions Catalog: IT 44 Formats: Vinyl & Colored Vinyl with Picture Sleeve, Digital Release Date: February 14, 2020
A1 Fluids of Emotion A2 Transcendental Access Point B1 So Much Love to Give
This is the debut solo release from @eris-drew, featuring 3 new songs meticulously mixed for the maximum impact of the Motherbeat. From the very beginning of the emergence of Eris Drew, we at IT have been blown away by the power of her DJ sets, where she channels the psychedelic energies of rave and love — the music reflects the power of transition and of fully becoming who you are. Part of what was so exciting to us is that her sets find a new path through the sounds and ideas that inspired No Way Back and so many other wonderful things. So we asked her to create an EP for IT that would reflect these ideas, and our favorite ecstatic healer delivered! Here we find her carefully exploring the intersections of House and Breakbeat culture, a proto rave ecstasy music that exudes the Fluids of Emotion, higher consciousness and the conceptual art of the KLF.
Eris has previously released on a compilation on Needs Not For Profit, and a split EP with her equally inspiring partner Octo Octa, but this is her first full solo EP. This EP was recorded at Eris Drew’s parents’ home in Chicago and mixed in the Interdimensional Laboratories in Detroit with BMG.
"This No Way Back stream was the first time I’ve performed a set from my home studio. When I was first planning this set, before the pandemic really hit hard, I had kind of a different idea in mind. I was planning something more sample-driven, less melodic. And although I would’ve deeply preferred to be in Detroit for No Way Back in-person under normal circumstances, the fact that I ended up performing from my studio meant I had all of my synthesizers there to use, including the larger ones that I don’t normally have in my live rig like the Prophet-6. I decided to take advantage of that, and the resulting set took kind of a different turn. This set includes some of the music that’s coming out later this year on my album with Mysteries of the Deep. I hope you enjoy." — Christina Chatfield @anitserk

Artist: Ectomorph Title: Subsonic Vibrations (or Debut EP) Catalog number: IT 1 Label: Interdimensional Transmissions
The debut record from Ectomorph that launched it all, the project, and the label Interdimensional Transmissions in 1995. This is the first time it has been repressed in over a decade, and we’re using the original masters complete with 3 lock grooves cut by Ron Murphy. For the digital version we have remastered the songs with Neel from Enisslab.

Ectomorph occupy a unique and strange place within Detroit Techno history. Founded in 1994 as an inspired reaction to DBX, Basic Channel, Rob Hood, Sähkö, and Drexciya, they released their first 12" singles in 1995 as an attempt to make Detroit music for Detroit itself, rather than exclusively for export.
The mystique of their early singles led to mythic status and a strong underground cult following, which they have continued to develop through releases on their own Interdimensional Transmissions label. Their live shows are legendary for their ability to fluidly incorporate improvisational techniques into synthesized music (and for the sheer amount of hardware that they bring to the stage). The Ectomorph show is all analog, no computers or samplers or even drum machines: all sounds come from the modulars and the mountains of Moogs.
Ectomorph (now officially comprised of BMG & Erika) reconvened in 2016 to write new music, which led to a series of live shows where the new material was tested via performance and allowed to evolve in form. To capture the energy of these performances, the new material was recorded in the studio totally live, multitracked for further engineering, but with no editing whatsoever. This music, to borrow a phrase from Derrick May, is what it is. The entire album was recorded live in one or two takes in the Interdimensional Laboratories in Detroit. This is the sound of the idea that is Ectomorph, presented in its natural and organic format, live and improvisational.
Interdimensional Transmissions (or IT) is a Detroit-based label founded by BMG (Brendan M Gillen) in 1995, with its first release the debut record by Ectomorph. The label has come to represent the left-hand path within Detroit Techno, Electro, post-disco, etc. IT often takes a wide musical lens and incorporates history as a way to find something both pure and new. IT is collaborative in nature, and functions as a dialogue between label partners BMG, Erika, & Amber. IT parties have also gained a cult status internationally, with their recurring No Way Back events becoming the focal point of a sort of post-rave cultural phenomenon and the annual after party highlight of Detroit's Memorial Day weekend.

A1 Rage Appropriate B1 Afterever B2 Nosedive
This is the seventh release on Eye Teeth, the techno sublabel of Interdimensional Transmissions, by Israel Vines — serving as a teaser for his upcoming album. Israel Vines debut album will be coming in the early new year, but for now you can be treated to unique versions giving you a vision of the future that is to come, like the crushing “Rage Appropriate” or the deep electro breaks techno fusion of “Afterever” or the experimental bass ambient “Nosedive.”
We started this sublabel as way of exploring pure and experimental techno in an entirely contemporary context (where IT often uses historical lenses and a wider musical context). This is Techno from Detroit and America, not Detroit Techno. We would like to see American Techno evolve, and this new imprint is an attempt to be a catalyst in that arena.

Here is BMG DJing at the No Way Back 10th Anniversary in Detroit. After Erika’s set, he played a solo live set composed specially for this party, followed by this DJ set, directly before Patrick Russell took over sometime around 6AM.
10 years ago Carlos declared that there must be truth in advertising and pushed the original leaky warehouse No Way Back til 5 PM the next day. He has constantly evolved as a DJ, he always plays with great gravitas to whatever the given context. Here we find Carlos Souffront in his indigenous habitat - at No Way Back 2016 in the Ballroom of the Tangent Gallery, playing after Patrick Russell and before Derek Plaslaiko.

In 2008, IT signed Miami based electronic musician & live percussionist Armando Martinez, best known as Alpha 606. Born in Miami to Cuban immigrants, he is a multitalented multi instrumentalist. His innovation is in blending the varied history of Electro, 20th Century Avant Garde and his native Cuban influences, ranging from the ritual music of Santeria to the Afro Cuban highs of 1930's Havana. With this stew of influences, he creates a dense and colorful sound, melding advanced electronics with intricately played live hand drums. This EP features an incredible peak time remix of "WWKD" from Silent Servant, a long time supporter of Israel Vines, also based in LA. It is followed by another powerful and surprisingly straight techno take on “WWKD” by the often more experimental and indus- trial Talker. Talker is a Downwards based duo from Chicago featuring John “Stave” Krohn (whom Israel Vines has done a superb remix for on the Trensmat label), and Karl Meier, who besides being a sort of Chicago legendary tastemaker and having worked for Regis’ and Surgeon’s distribution also did one of the best records of the Sandwell District catalogue as Kalon.

The B Side features a version of “Relapse” by Eye Teeth founder and curator BMG. This is his first published remix created entirely on his modular.
This EP was pre-mastered by Neel at Enisslab Studio in Rome. The vinyl was mastered by Carl at Trutone and pressed at Archer Records in Detroit.

This is the second release on Eye Teeth, the new techno sublabel of Interdimensional Transmissions, a remix EP with interpretations direct from the peers of Israel Vines.
