The Chesapeake Bay has claimed thousands of ships, but some believe it has never truly released everyone who sailed its waters.
In Part 2 of our journey, we leave Maryland behind and head south into Virginia, where lonely offshore lighthouses have stood watch for more than two centuries. Far from shore, lighthouse keepers endured crushing isolation, violent nor'easters, thick fog, hurricanes, and months cut off from the mainland. Their stories became part of Chesapeake folklore—and according to many witnesses, some of those keepers may still be tending their lights.
Join us as we investigate the legends, eyewitness accounts, and unexplained mysteries surrounding some of Virginia's most historic lighthouses.

On the morning of January 7, 1998, five-year-old Brittany Lynn Locklear stood at the end of her family's driveway in rural Raeford, North Carolina, waiting for her school bus—just as she had so many mornings before.
When her mother stepped inside for only a few moments, Brittany disappeared.
What followed was one of North Carolina's most heartbreaking child abduction cases. Less than twenty-four hours later, Brittany's body was discovered only a few miles from her home. Despite an enormous search effort, hundreds of tips, and decades of investigation, her killer has never been identified.
In this episode of Lurk: Stab & Gab, we examine Brittany's final morning, the eyewitness accounts that helped shape the investigation, the physical evidence that detectives still believe could solve the case, and the enduring hope that advances in DNA technology may finally bring justice to a little girl whose life was stolen far too soon.

Nestled at the edge of the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan, India, the ruins of Bhangarh Fort have earned a reputation so chilling that visitors are legally forbidden from entering after sunset. Declared one of the most haunted locations in the world, this 17th-century fort is wrapped in legends of curses, obsession, and restless spirits.
In this episode of Lurk, we explore the rise and fall of Bhangarh Fort—from its royal origins under the Kachwaha dynasty to the eerie silence that now blankets its temples, palaces, and marketplaces. Locals whisper of shadowy figures, disembodied screams, sudden drops in temperature, and an overwhelming sense of dread felt by those who linger too long.
At the heart of the haunting are two enduring legends:
• A powerful curse laid by a holy ascetic after his land was violated
• A sorcerer whose obsession with a princess may have doomed an entire city
We’ll examine how these stories intertwine with historical records, why the Archaeological Survey of India enforces strict nighttime bans, and what modern investigators and visitors claim to have experienced among the ruins.
Is Bhangarh Fort truly cursed—or is fear itself the most powerful force haunting its walls?
Press play, and step carefully. Some places don’t like to be remembered.

We explore the haunting 1988 disappearance of Keith Call and Cassandra Hailey—no bodies ever found—and the 1989 murders of Annamaria Phelps and Daniel Lauer, whose remains were discovered weeks later in woods near I-64. These cases close out the Colonial Parkway series, with lingering questions about connections to the earlier killings. We cover investigative challenges, family perspectives, and 2024–2026 breakthroughs linking deceased suspect Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. to multiple victims (including recent resolutions for Thomas/Dowski). Some justice delivered, but closure remains elusive for these families. Tips? Contact FBI Norfolk or Virginia State Police.

Between 1986 and 1987, two young couples vanished or were found murdered along one of Virginia’s most scenic and historic roadways. What initially appeared to be isolated tragedies would later become the opening chapter of one of the most chilling and enduring unsolved serial murder cases in American history.
In Part One, we examine the first two confirmed crime scenes connected to the Colonial Parkway Murders — cases that set a disturbing pattern investigators are still trying to understand decades later.
Case One: Cathy Thomas & Rebecca Dowski (1986)
Cathy Thomas and Rebecca Dowski were a young couple spending a night together near the Colonial Parkway. When they failed to return home, concern quickly turned into fear. Their car and bodies were eventually found.
Case Two: David Knobling & Robin Edwards (1987)
Less than a year later, David Knobling and Robin Edwards disappeared after an evening together near the James River. Their car was found parked near the water, keys still inside. What followed was a discovery that would escalate fear across the region — both had been brutally murdered, shot at close range.
The similarities between the two cases were impossible to ignore. Couples. Secluded locations. A killer who appeared calm, deliberate, and confident.
In This Episode
These cases would mark the beginning of a terror that stretched over years, jurisdictions, and generations of unanswered questions.
In Part Two, we’ll examine the next murders attributed to the Colonial Parkway killer — and how the case began to unravel under mounting pressure, conflicting theories, and devastating loss.

In this episode of Lurk, we descend into the legends that made the Superstitions infamous—from the tale of the Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine to the countless hikers and prospectors who entered the mountains and were never seen again. Indigenous warnings, brutal terrain, unexplained deaths, and whispers of shadowy figures all collide in a landscape many believe is cursed.
Are the Superstition Mountains simply unforgiving wilderness, or is there something watching from the cliffs and ravines? As history blurs into folklore, one thing becomes clear: these peaks don’t give up their secrets easily.

In this episode of Lurk, we travel to the historic—and notoriously haunted—Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Perched high in the Ozark Mountains, this grand Victorian structure has been many things over the past century: a luxury resort, an elite girls’ school, and most infamously, a fraudulent cancer hospital run by the charismatic con man Norman Baker. Its long and troubled history has left behind more than just stories—it’s said to be one of the most haunted hotels in America.
We dive into the hotel’s tragic past, exploring the legends and documented history that shaped its reputation. You’ll hear about:
Through eyewitness accounts, historical details, and the hotel’s most unsettling paranormal encounters, we uncover why the Crescent continues to draw ghost hunters, historians, and the curious from all over the world.
If you’ve ever wondered what lingers in the halls of the Crescent Hotel after the sun sets over the Ozarks, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.

In this episode of Lurk, we enter the vast and haunting expanse of the Nahanni Valley—one of Canada’s most remote wilderness regions and the source of countless legends, unexplained deaths, and chilling disappearances. Known ominously as The Valley of the Headless Men, the area has long held a reputation for swallowing travelers whole. (Listen to Episode 150 for more details into the mysterious Nahanni Valley)
This time, we examine the mysterious fate of David Horsesay and Frank Hardisty, two outdoorsmen who ventured into the Nahanni simply to enjoy the wilderness and hunt. Experienced, capable, and familiar with the land, they expected adventure—not tragedy.
But when the men failed to return, searchers uncovered unsettling clues that raised far more questions than answers. What happened to Horsesay and Hardisty in the valley’s deep, winding canyons? Was it misadventure? An encounter with something—or someone—dangerous? Or did they fall victim to the same eerie forces blamed for decades of strange deaths in the region?
Follow us as we retrace their ill-fated trip into a land where the wilderness is unforgiving, the legends are long, and the truth—like the valley itself—remains shadowed.

In October 1973, two Mississippi men—Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker—claimed they were taken aboard a strange craft while fishing on the Pascagoula River. What they described was unlike any other UFO report at the time: robotic beings with claw-like hands, paralyzing fear, and a chilling medical-like examination.
The story made headlines across the country, drawing the attention of law enforcement, journalists, and UFO investigators. Some dismissed the account as a hoax, but recordings of the men made in secret revealed something far harder to explain—their terror was real.
In this episode of Lurk, we dive into the Pascagoula UFO abduction, exploring what happened that night, how Hickson and Parker’s lives were forever changed, and why this case remains one of the most compelling alien abduction accounts in American history.

In this chilling episode of Lurk, we delve into one of the most mysterious and brutal unsolved crimes in German history—the Hinterkaifeck murders. In 1922, on a quiet Bavarian farmstead, six members of the Gruber-Gabriel family were found gruesomely murdered. The scene was eerie: strange footprints in the snow, an attic possibly occupied before the killings, and a killer who may have stayed in the house after the murders were done.
Who was responsible for this horrific crime? Was it someone close to the family, or a wandering stranger with dark intentions? And what clues still haunt investigators and armchair detectives to this day?
Join us as we explore the unsettling evidence, examine chilling theories, and uncover the lingering questions surrounding this nearly century-old case. This is one true crime mystery that continues to baffle—and terrify.

In this chilling episode, we dive deep into one of the Pacific Northwest’s most eerie and unresolved mysteries—Ape Canyon, Mount St. Helens, and the haunting legend of the Devil Monkeys.
Before the infamous eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, reports of strange, monkey-like creatures began circulating around the area, with locals and adventurers alike claiming to have seen terrifying figures resembling primates in the wilds of Ape Canyon. But these weren't your typical monkeys—these creatures were described as aggressive, intelligent, and utterly terrifying, earning them the nickname "Devil Monkeys."
We’ll explore the history of these encounters, dating back to the early 1920s, and uncover the eerie details of these elusive beings—were they cryptids, misidentified animals, or something far more sinister?
But it doesn’t end there. The disappearance of skier and mountaineer Jim Carter adds another layer of intrigue to this already perplexing tale. In 1950, Carter vanished while exploring the slopes of Mount St. Helens, just miles from the infamous Ape Canyon. Was his disappearance linked to these terrifying creatures, or did something else happen in the shadow of the mountain?
In this episode, we discuss:
Join us as we uncover the truth behind one of the most mysterious paranormal legends of the Pacific Northwest. Are the Devil Monkeys real? And could they still be lurking in the shadow of Mount St. Helens, waiting for the next unwitting explorer?

This week we travel to Africa to take a look at the cryptid known as Mokele Mbembe. My introduction to this creature came about in a 1980's movie called Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend. Basically there are slightly smaller versions of apatosauruses roaming the Congo River Basin. Sightings started in the 1700's and still continue today.

Because vacationing with kids and dogs and husbands is anything but quiet, Jamie is replaying The Sykesville Monster episode this week. Enjoy and have a safe, healthy and happy 4th of July weekend!
In this episode, Jamie talks about a creature seen in a rural area of Maryland along the Patapsco River. Not only was a creature sighted, but there were also allegedly large human like bones found near the area of one of the sightings. Take a listen and decide is it Bigfoot? A Neanderthal? A deformed bear? Or an escaped mental hospital patient?
Interesting note- the sound effect used when the ticking sound is mentioned is an actual recording of a male silverback gorilla thumping his chest.

Today's episode is a little different than the usual topic. Jamie was searching for something with a Thanksgiving theme and came across the ghost story of Duffy's Cut. It basically has nothing to do with Thanksgiving other than it was a story told each year at Thanksgiving dinner. It's an interesting story that starts with ghosts and ends with murder. Listen to learn more about a little known dark secret from our American past. *note that the name of the contractor was Philip Duffy not Patrick. I’m guessing my brain kept thinking of the guy who played JR’s brother on Dallas

Jamie shares a poem written by a 14 year old about the 9/11 attacks. We hope everyone takes a moment to remember all those who lost their lives to the attacks on 9/11- the people in the World Trade Center, the people in the Pentagon, the people on Flight 93, the 343 firefighters who lost their lives running into flaming crumbling buildings and all those who have died due to illness from breathing in the dust from the collapse.
Take a moment to remember the unity that followed. Remember that we're all the same. We all bleed red and even if we don't share the same opinion about something, we can all still get along.

Jamie traveled to Old House Woods with her mom Debby to do a quick EVP session and see what they could pick up. If you remember from episode 2: Old House Woods, whenever a storm is coming, people often see the wailing woman floating above the trees. Despite the forecasted storm for the next day, no wailing woman was seen. There were no EVPs captured during the beach session most likely the wind and waves caused some issues with that. There were some good EVPs picked up inside the woods themselves along the road. And as you can tell, Jamie isn't always the fearless ghost hunter Let us know what you think about this mini update. The Phoenix Lights is the name given to a series of reports of strange lights in the Phoenix Arizona skies in March 1997. The sighting is one of the largest, if not THE largest, reported UFO sighting ever. Hundreds of people were staring at the sky to get a glimpse of the Hale-Bopp comet when they saw several strange lights that moved in unison and appeared to be part of a large unidentified craft that was V shaped and a mile wide.
