The Independant Member for Murchison Ruth Forrest is visiting the West Coast this week and Ruth always pops into the studio for a chat. She was in the studio this morning with Skirvo and you can listen to it right here.
Skirvo chatted to Toby Lutwyche from the Queenstown Crows Football Club. Toby is one of many volunteers who put hours of service to the club and their volunteers are certainly a major key to the crows success in recent years. Being the recipient of the west coast spirit awards in 2022 is a great recognition to all those volunteers who contribute so much to the club both on and off the field. Congratulations and Go Crows.
Today on the Breaky Show Skirvo was joined by Vicky Knowles from Strahan who was a recipient of the West Coast Spirit Award for 2022. Congratulations to Vicky and thank you for all the many hours of voluntary service you have undertaken over many years. Tomorrow Skirvo will be chatting to Toby Lutwyche from the Queenstown Crows Football club . The Crows have also received a West Coast Spirit award for 2022
Former test cricketer and National Captain Steve Waugh was in Queenstown, taking photos of the Queenstown Oval yesterday. The photos are going to be included in a book Steve is currently working on about Unique Australian cricket grounds, ones that tell a story and epitomizes the spirit of cricket in Australia. A friendly T20 cricket match between a Queenstown side and a Ridgley side was held while Steve was here and Skirvo had the privilege of speaking to Steve yesterday afternoon and it went to air on the breakfast show this morning. Leigh was in the studio this morning with Skirvo chatting about the 125th Mount Lyell Strahan Australia Day picnic on the 26th January. They are in need of new volunteers. They will be holding a working bee on the 25th January. They are also seeking stories of past picnics. Listen here to find out all the details.
Skirvo chatted this morning with the winner of the 7XS Volunteer emergency services award. Congratulations to 3rd officer Paul Edwards from the Queenstown Fire Brigade.
With the large amount of snake sightings and visitors in backyards this summer, it was time to have a chat with Scott from Snake catchers join Skirvo on the Breakfast Show this morning. Scott talked about what we should do if we find a snake in our backyard, why there have been a lot of sightings this summer, what do we need to do if someone is bitten and how we can prevent our pets from being bitten.
Today on the Breakfast show Skirvo spoke to The General Manager of New South Wales' People2People Catherine Kennedy. Catherine gave us tips and advice in making 2023 your best year in your career.
Yesterday, Skirvo attended the official opening of the new Avebury Nickel Mine at Zeehan and while he was there, he caught up with the Managing Director of Mallee Resources (who own the mine) John Lamb, State Resources Minister Felix Ellis and West Coast Mayor Shane Pitt on this historic day. Today on XS Sport, Skirvo caught up with Brodie, the co ordinator of the Bruce Woodley memorial fishing competition once again. There have been some changes to the compm due to the weather and Brodie walked us through that. The competition kicks off tomorrow and continues until sunday. We are sure fishermen will attend rain, hail or shine.
Today is World Homelessness day and Skirvo was speaking to the Operations Manager at Orange Sky Daniel Glaubert this morning. Orange Sky provides Laundry Services to people who find themselves in a homeless situation or are in need. The organisation is undergoing upgrades to their vehicle projects and Daniel spoke about the positive impact to the services they provide
On XS Sport this morning, Skirvo spoke to the Co ordinator of the Charles Woodley memorial fishing competition (happening this coming Friday-sunday in Tullah) Brodie Jastremski. After many years service to 7xs and many of the radio stations across Tasmania, our Regional Manager Tim Holder is retiring to go in a different direction with his life. Tim joined Skirvo in the studio this morning to highlight his passion for 7xs and and his love for the west coast. Everyone at 7xs past and present thanks Tim his many years of service and wish him all the very best in his new ventures. We will miss him heaps. In return for Tim's belief and support to him, Skirvo wanted to play Tim's favourite song. The song is a newish song from former Bass player with Dire straits John Illsley. It's titled A long way back and we are looking for your feedback to the song so we have completed it here in the interview to listen to if you didn't catch it this morning. Last Friday, Skirvo chatted with artist Mandy Hunniford who has an exhibition at Soggy Brolly in Orr street, Queenstown right now. Entitled "These are the years that we share," it's a culmination of a decade of artistic focus on the West Coast's mining industry.

Today on XS Sport, Skirvo caught up with Sam Mawer, coach of the Rosebery Toorak Football club. At the beginning of the year, the hawks began a huge recruitment compaign with the aim to a more competitive outfit and to have two separate seniors and reserves teams in order for players not to double up. I think they would have exceeded their own expectations by ending up with 4 wins in the seniors for the season, a sensational effort, Skirvo and Sam talked about the season and the positive down at the club.
Today Skirvo was joined by the CEO of the National Stroke Foundation Sharon Mcgowan. Its National Stroke week so Sharon outlined how we can make those who have suffered from a stroke to enjoy special moments during the recovery period, the symptoms and what we should watch out for.
On Wednesday last week , Skirvo caught up with Dr Colin Chia from the Launceston respiratory clinic who spoke about emphysema and the current research being undertaken. Researchers are calling on the community for support and Dr Chia discussed all that as well
It's Homelessness week this week and this morning on the breakfast show Skirvo was joined by co finder of Orange Sky Nic Marchesi. homelessness is on the rise, with a staggering one in five Australians having experienced homelessness at some point in their lives. To raise further awareness, Orange Sky is holding their annual Sudsy Challenge which was covered in the interview.

It's Naidoc Week this week and Skirvo had a lovely chat with Aunty Rhonda Collard , co author of the children's book Bobtail's friend which deals with racial bullying. Aunty Rhonda has a great heart and passion for teaching children about the harm and hurt racial bullying causes
On the Breaky show this week , Skirvo spoke to retired GP and survivor of Heart Valve Disease Doctor Neville Ludbey. There is a new non surgical treatment available for those who suffer from Heart Valve disease and Doctor Ludbey talked about that.

Australia’s best tasting tap water will be decided when the Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) hosts the Ixom 2021 Best Tasting Tap Water in Australia competition today, putting interstate rivalry to the ultimate test. Water authorities from various regional and metropolitan areas around Australia have participated in state competitions and now the state winners will go head to head for the national title and the chance to represent Australia at the annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition held in West Virginia, USA. The competition will be held in Hobart at Risdon Brook Dam, Risdon Brook Park, Grasstree Hill Road, Risdon Vale and will be live streamed at the TasWater Facebook page from 2pm, with the judging taking place at 2.15pm and the winner announced online at around 2.30pm. The Ring Steward for the North Western Axeman's Association Bill Williams was Skirvo's guest on the breakfast show this morning. The association is holding woodchopping competitions at the Bluestone Mine Tasmania Zeehan Gem and Mineral Fair and West Coast Heritage Centre Open day this weekend. It was a pleasure to catch up with the author of - "The Last Hermit of Tasmania's West Coast" Geoff Harwood. Skirvo met him on Friday for a great chat about this book which was launched in Queenstown on the weekend. It tells the story of Jakki Stevens who became a hermit on the west coast after being discharged from the army back in the 1940s. It's a fascinating book and a really good chat as well.
