GraceStory connects people with education, resources, and community that equip them for the journey of restoration.
Join the GraceStory Podcast Q&A moderated by Amber Jones with panelists Ryan Watters, Sarah Fry, and Sonia Vernon as they continue their conversation on whole-person healing—exploring the mental, emotional, spiritual, relational, and physical aspects of restoration through practical wisdom and faith-centered resources. Once again, the panel answers anonymous questions submitted LIVE through the GraceStory App.
In Part 2, the conversation dives deeper into what it means to walk alongside people who are hurting, the importance of listening well, and how our presence can often be more impactful than having all the right answers. You'll also hear practical insights on supporting others through difficult seasons, taking meaningful next steps toward healing, and finding hope through authentic community and Christ-centered relationships.

Why do you connect with others the way you do—and can it change? In this episode of GraceStory Podcast, we explore how attachment styles shape the way we love, trust, and relate to others. Whether you lean anxious, avoidant, disorganized, or secure, these patterns often form early in life—and impact everything from marriage to parenting to faith. Our guest, Peter Leighton LPCC, trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), breaks down the science of attachment and offers hope for healing. You’ll learn how trauma affects emotional bonds, what EFT looks like in practice, and how a faith-based approach can help restore secure, connected relationships. If you’ve ever asked, “Why do I keep doing this in relationships?”—this episode is for you.

Setting boundaries is hard. Setting them with people who don’t understand—or don’t care to—is even harder. In this powerful episode, licensed counselor Taylora Bookie of Quies Counseling joins us to unpack how to enforce boundaries with grace, clarity, and love. Together, we explore why boundaries often trigger guilt (especially for Christians), how to handle emotional pushback, and what it really means to protect your peace without losing your compassion. Whether you're healing from trauma, recovering from spiritual manipulation, or simply learning to say “no” without shame, this conversation offers practical tools rooted in both Scripture and wisdom from a licensed counselor.

On this Episode of GraceStory Podcast Amber takes over for a conversation with Dr. Lyon. Dr. Lyon's lived wisdom is a deep well that could never be completely tapped; and, her humble authenticity keeps her approachable. For those unfamiliar with Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, her history is one of deep dedication, pioneer work on many fronts, and a testament to a life transformed by the infilling of the Holy Spirit when we are committed to living out His presence. Dr. Lyon is a mom to four, has served on both national and international human crisis forums and initiatives, was the first female district superintendent of The Wesleyan Church – serving for 8 years. She has a heart of compassion that is demonstrated in the practical ways she serves, leads, and impacts the kingdom globally. Dr Lyon has a heart for today’s emerging leaders. In this conversation with GraceStory Founder, Amber Jones, Dr. Lyon says that it is foundational that our starting point as leaders in the faith community is to be based wholly on being filled with the Holy Spirit. From there, we understand that God trusts us with a mission unique to each of us. That it is such a beautiful, humble honor to represent Him. Dr. Lyon said, “He calls us into difficult places because He trusts me, he trusts you…to be able to move into these areas.”

On this episode Morey Ostlund joins the show to share her story and some of the content of her book, Unlovable. After being abandoned by her parents at the age of five and sexually abused for years by a foster parent, Morey unfolds her story of how this trauma led her down a path of self-sabotage and destruction, desperately seeking to fill the void in her heart with men, acceptance, status, and alcohol. Anything that would make the sting of past rejections go away, even if just temporarily. At age 40, she seemed to have it all by the world's standards, but she still felt empty. Facing a second divorce, she came to the end of her own rope. When she quit searching for love in all the wrong places and took a chance on God, He healed all her broken pieces. Life is full of hurt, betrayal, and trauma. This is no less true for those who are involved in ministry. Our guest in this episode experienced these things and more in his vocational ministry position. Scott says that “often these hurts and betrayals can lead us deep into the cave of despair which results in ministry becoming misery.” Join in on the conversation as we gain insight through the story of pastor and author, Scott Distler.

Our guest on this episode is Krissie Garland who has a story to tell and resources to share. She is a widow and was married to an amazing man for 8 years—a man who is now with Jesus. Being a widow does not define who Krissie is, however. She has a heart to help hurting and broken people. What started as a calling as a licensed professional counselor, became a personal mission when my late husband took his life after battling mental illness and addiction. Krissie says, "I became a Therapist because I personally know what it is like to experience pain, and I know what it is like to fight towards healing."

President and founder of GraceStory Ministries, Amber Jones is back on the show. She joins us as we record LIVE at YC21 along with Dr. Kari Anderson of myeatingdoctor.com to discuss eating disorders. Never has the food we eat and the shape of our bodies evoked such emotion resulting in the polarization of opinions. Food and body “talk” weirdly provides identity and community, but for many, something goes terribly wrong. Dr. Kari helps us understand more about our relationship with food in this episode, all of this recorded LIVE from YC21.
