As our preaching team met together, there was a desire to do a sermon series that would help us make it through the challenges of life. The Psalms are a great place to look to do just that. For the next six weeks, we will be hearing messages from the book of Psalms to see what God has for us as we face challenges and navigate through them. One of our Pastors, Peter Benedict, started this series by looking at Psalm 40. We saw how this Psalm is a prayer of testimony, praise, and cry for help and how we can be encouraged in our troubles through this Psalm.

On Sunday, June 28, one of our Pastors, Peter Benedict, shared about God's self-sacrificing love. He so wonderfully said, "Our whole story of faith is centered in a God that isn’t waiting for us to earn anything. God comes to us first, God is willing even to die among us, while we are still sinners, because God dearly loves us. God does the work of atonement, God handles the problem that’s too big for us to handle alone. God takes the weight of sin & evil and says: Let me carry that, I just want to fill your heart with my love. Let me show you love, to the point of death, so that you will always know how deep my love goes and how free it is." On Sunday, May 17, we started our new sermon series called The Good and Beautiful God (based on the book by the same name, written by James Bryan Smith). The heart of this book and our series is teaching us how to become more like Jesus. We will do this by exploring four elements: adopting the narratives of Jesus, engaging in soul training exercises, participating in community, and being led by the Holy Spirit. We are currently in a season of waiting. Waiting for healing, waiting for decisions to be made, waiting to be together again…the list goes on. When we practice the fruit of patience, we are able to live in the present and, as Pete said in his sermon on Sunday, “find God’s grace and compassion even on hard days.” The good news is that God is always patient.
