In our Gospel Lesson from Luke 4:16-30 we see Jesus attending the weekly worship gathering in the Synagogue. Much like our practice of church on Sunday, those gathered would have an appointed reading from Scripture, followed by a Rabbi or teacher, or in our case, a Pastor, explaining and proclaiming it. When we look at the work of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross, we see a place where our Savior hung with His brow bloodied, His back torn, His face swollen and bruised and His body filled with agony unimaginable; yet we see it as a place where Jesus provided salvation for me and for you. Lent is more than depriving ourselves of joy for a few weeks, it is a time where we are supposed focus on our own personal relationship with God, developing our mental, personal and spiritual health ----so we can make room for God in our every day lives.
