Communities are comprised of individuals fulfilling interdependent roles. The interplay of these roles fosters connectedness and determines the health of the greater community. Because we play many roles, we are a support system for many overlapping, intersecting communities. If we could trace a line through these intersections, we would effectively map the path of our lives. One of our communities is Hawthorne. In Meet the Tiny Press, The Cool Kids ferret out the juicy marrow of the Hawthorne community by conducting in-depth, exclusive interviews of some of the people, who in their roles as teachers, support staff, and administrators, help nourish and maintain the Hawthorne community. We regret that we could not give just due to all the employees, volunteers, families, and students who wholly deserve to be cornered and have a mic shoved in their face.

In this Episode: Nurse Chris, Ms. Griffith, Ms. Joyce, & Ms. Scott

The objects we carry through our lives reveal portions of who we are. Like brush strokes in a self-portrait, these personal artifacts give form to our cherished relationships and pastimes. An artist carries her paints, a father his son's photograph, a cosmonaut his Russian version of Tang.

But since we play not one, but many roles in our lives, the whole of us cannot be described through a single artifact. Rather, our history is written by a mosaic of objects which we collect, carry, and discard over days, months, and years.

In The Things We Carried, The Cool Kids explore, through word and image, the roles they play in their own lives and the artifacts that accompany them on their journeys.
