This Mental Health Bible Study Podcast is being presented for three purposes:1. To share knowledge about the psyche (soul) of human beings. Hence, this is where psychology comes from. Psyche which means soul. The seat of our feelings, thoughts, and willpower to choose.2. To share knowledge that is not being taught in the church about mental health which is in the Bible. Yes, mental health is in the Bible.3. To share knowledge that will set God's people free and make them whole, healed, and happy.
The Mental Health Bible Study Podcast is where you can be uplifted, encouraged, and transformed to optimize your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. I pray you will navigate through life with the Life who is Jesus Christ so you can be whole and balanced living life abundantly.
You are loved. You are enough. You are the apple of His eye. God wants the best for you. I pray you want the best for you too and it is possible with God.

Let me share with you about a Psalms 23 Father whom I have come to love, know, and have a personal relationship through Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. As a fatherless child, I keep the words of Psalms 23 close to my heart. These statements David said about our Heavenly Father, I say the same statements. I have also taken these words and turned them into affirmations. I hope these words will resonate with you as you get closer to God.

It is the month of June, and some people are thinking about their fathers. I am not because I am a fatherless child. My father died when I was fourteen and I didn't know him then. But I do know someone whom I call, father, and that is my Heavenly Father. My shepherd. My go to. My confidante. My hero. My all in all. My consultant. Anything and everything I need Him to be. This episode is mostly my inner thoughts, but also, an encouraging word to those who have an uninvolved father.

It is so important to always be careful and persistently working to keep or guard your heart for that's where the issues reside. It is our duty to deal with those issues. I also talk about the six different types of spiritual struggles according to Pargament and Exline (2023). The reference to their article is below.
It is important to look into your environment (work, home, church, finances, community, relationships, etc.) and see if it is having an impact on your mental health in a good way or a bad way. It is also important to look within yourself to determine what you need to do to make sure you are in good standing mentally and emotionally. You don't have to suffer in silence. Help is available.

There's such a huge stigma about emotions. I want you to know emotions are not the enemy. The devil is our enemy, not our emotions. Emotions are like tools. You use them to fix what is bothering you. In order to fix it, you do have to face it, sit in it, reflect, process it, and talk about it. This is exactly how you guard your heart on a daily basis. Our emotions are what make us who we are: human. And who created us. God. "For everything created by God is good" 1 Timothy 4:4a

On this day, let me encourage you to GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO BE VULNERABLE. Never bypass your feelings when you are hurt, mad, sad, embarrassed, humiliated, and etc. Deal with your feelings. "Feel it but do not set up camp there." Quoted by Stacy Dewberry. It's okay to express your feelings and sit in them to figure out what really is the problem instead of projecting them unto other people. Because you will do more harm than good projecting your feelings. It is your self-care right to diligently care for your heart for out of it flows the issues of life. Seek a therapist to be vulnerable with, someone who is unbiased and nonjudgmental.

Forgiveness is a process that begins with a personal decision to overcome emotional pain when you are ready to do so. According to the worksheet on therapistaid.com, there are four phases of forgiveness. In this episode, the last phase of forgiveness is deepening. This means you will decrease your emotional pain even further and find meaning behind the experience as well as become aware of ways you have grown. When I read this statement, I thought of Oprah Winfrey's quote, "True forgiveness is when you can say, 'Thank you for that experience.'"

According to the worksheet on therapistaid.com, there are four phases of forgiveness. The first phase is to uncover it, not sweep it under the rug like it never happened. It did happen. It hurts. The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS A PROCESS THAT CAN START AT ANY TIME. You can even forgive a person who is no longer in your life. You can also forgive a person and not have a relationship with them. Forgiveness is for you, not for the one who hurt you. It does take time to go through this process of forgiveness. Everyone does not process hurt the same way. It could take years, months, or days for someone to forgive. Let them have the space and time to go through the process. There are four stages of forgiveness, and the first stage will be discussed on tomorrow's podcast.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS RECOGNIZING THE OFFENDER IS HUMAN AND TREATING THEM WITH COMPASSION. Be mindful that forgiveness is not for the offender, it is for you. As you get to a place of forgiving which is a change of your own heart, you will also get to a place of recognizing the offender is human. Not only that, but you will also have compassion toward them. It doesn't necessarily mean you will continue a relationship with the offender which is your choice by the way.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS A MENTAL SHIFT OR CHANGE OF HEART THAT DEVELOPS OVER TIME. Once again, forgiveness takes time. This mental shift or new perspective about the situation happens when you least expect it. And when it does, it doesn't mean you have forgotten what happened. You will always remember, but you won't bring it up and use it against the other person. This how you know you have a change of heart.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS NOT FOR THE OFFENDER. IT IS FOR YOU. It has always been for you, not the offender. God desires that we choose life and not death. To hold any emotional pain for a long time can be death and self-destructing to your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. It takes a toll on your mind, heart, and body. Forgiveness is the remedy for emotional pain. Take note that forgiveness can take place without you ever saying a word to the offender and without the offender asking you to forgive. Choose to let go of the emotional pain and live your life freely with love, joy, peace, and grace. It's your choice at the end of the day.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS NOT WEAK. It takes strength to make a decision to let go of overwhelming emotions such as anger, hate, bitterness, malice, revenge, shame, and fear. And yet live your life with love, joy, peace, and grace in spite of what someone has done or said to cause the emotional pain. It is strength to forgive, not weakness.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE FORCED. Don't feel that you have to be forced into forgiving others. It will not be genuine or truthful. It is okay to acknowledge your feelings about the offense and process your thoughts before forgiving others. Take your time because it is a process. Forgiveness is not to be forced because you may hurt yourself even more by doing so.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS NOT SIMPLY SAYING I FORGIVE YOU ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DON'T MEAN IT. You do not have to lie to a person about forgiving him or her. You can simply say, 'Give me time to think and process my feelings. I will get back to you.' It will take you time to heal from things that people do and say against you. Whether intentionally or unintentionally. It still hurts.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS NOT CONDONING OR EXCUSING WRONGDOINGS. The definition of condoning is "to accept and allow (behavior that is considered morally wrong or offensive) to continue." Just because you decide to forgive, it doesn't mean you condone others to continue to mistreat or abuse you. This is where setting boundaries will have to place so others will know the actions you will or won't allow.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS NOT GETTING EVEN OR SEEKING REVENGE. Seeking revenge or getting even with those who hurt you won't solve anything. It won't help get rid of the emotional pain. The pain will still be there after you have sought revenge. We have the capability to forgive, but it is your choice at the end of the day. Whether you will let your emotions overtake you or you overcome your emotions.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS NOT PRETENDING OR FORGETTING. We have the capability to repress our thoughts and put events in the subconscious level of the mind. But the body won't ever forget. Our bodies keep memories like elephants. We can be emotionally triggered by something we hear, taste, see, feel, and smell. That very thing will take us all the way back to where we were violated or offended. "Keep your heart diligently, for out of it flows the issues of life." Proverbs 4:23

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS NOT RECONCILIATION. Especially when you know the relationship is a toxic one. You can say, "girl, bye" or "boy, bye" and really meant it. You can love them from a distance. Everybody is not meant to be your friend or spouse. Know the people who you allow in your inner circle. Know yourself well enough to know what you refuse to tolerate from others. Just because you decide to forgive, it does not mean you have to continue the relationship.

The affirmation for today is FORGIVENESS IS A PROCESS, NOT A COMPETITION. Just in case someone may be wondering, what does forgiveness have to do with mental health? An unforgiving heart can be destructive to your mental and emotional health as well as your spiritual and physical health. Forgiveness is not only about making sure you forgive others so God can forgive you. It’s deeper than that and it is all mental. Let’s keep it real, there are offenses that society considers unforgivable. How can we forgive others who commit an unforgivable act against us? That’s a good question and it will be answered. The self-love affirmation for today is I CHOOSE TO RELEASE ALL MY PAST TRAUMA AND EMOTIONAL PAIN INTO THE SEA OF FORGIVENESS. Take notice that I didn't say forgetfulness. There's only one true God who does that, forget the wrongs that people commit. We, as human beings, do not have the power to forget unless you are the Almighty God. Your body doesn't forget offenses and violations that people commit against it. But we do have the power to forgive, and it begins with a decision. And only then, the course of action begins with forgiveness which is a process for the person who has been offended and/or violated.
For the month of March, I will be podcasting about what forgiveness is not, what it is, and how to forgive offenses and violations that are absolutely hard to forgive. Subscribe so you don't miss an episode.

It is not only godly to take care of your temple, but it is imperative that you do.
Let me affirm you on this day. Love your body and show how much you love it by taking care of it. It is my prayer that you be in good health as well as your soul.

The self-love affirmation for today is THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ME BECAUSE GOD HAS CREATED MY INWARD PARTS. The inward parts that I am referring to is temperament which details the mood patterns of a person. It also gives us the 'how' of a behavior. Every single person has a temperament. We as a society has the tendency to treat differences as a disease when in actually it's extraordinary to be different. When people don't act the same or in the same way as them, they shun them as if they can't be a part of their circle. And it's their right, but me, personally, I don't go where I'm not accepted as who I am.
Let me affirm you on this day. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WAY GOD CREATED YOU. If you do not know your temperament, take a quiz and find out at temperamentquiz.com
to begin loving yourself the way God created you.

The self-love affirmation for today is I CAST ALL MY ANXIETIES ON GOD FOR HE CARES FOR ME. Whatever that is ailing you, you can give it to God because He cares about you. He also has fought your battle for you. But sometimes, we forget we can just throw these problems at God. He wants to hear from you and be near you. That's how much God loves you. It's okay to be total honest with God about it too.
Let me affirm you on this day. God cares about you. Speak it, believe it, and know it.

The self-love affirmation for today is I FORGIVE MYSELF. Just like we forgive others, we have to learn to forgive ourselves too. Sometimes that can be hard because we are our worst critics. We are so hard on ourselves. Show yourself some kindness. Give yourself some grace.
Let me affirm you on this day. You are forgiven. All you have to do is confess your faults, repent, believe you are forgiven, and speak it until the shame, guilt, fear, or doubt subsides.

The self-love affirmation for today is I AM MORE THAN WHAT OTHERS THINK OF ME. Proverbs 29:25 states, "The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts their trust in the Lord will be safe." It is a hazard to your mental health to be fearful of what others think of you. The things God KNOWS about you is MORE IMPORTANT than what others THINK of you. Fear is torment and God does not torment those He love, and God loves you.
Let me affirm you on this day. You are MORE than what others THINK of you. All you have to do is believe it, know it, and speak it until that fear of what others think of you subsides.

The self-love affirmation for today is I AM NOT AFRAID BECAUSE GOD IS WITH ME. Yes, I took the scripture from Isaiah 41:10 and turned it into a self-love affirmation as well as made it personal. "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right Hand." The definition of fear is "torment" according to the Bible. God does not torment those He love, and God loves you. And because He is your God, you will not be dismayed or distressed.
Let me affirm you on this day. You will not be afraid because you know without a shadow of a doubt, that God is WITH you. All you have to do is believe it, know it, and speak it until that fear subsides.

The self-love affirmation for today is I AM BALANCING GOOD HEALTH IN ALL AREAS OF MY LIFE: SPIRITUALLY, MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY, AND PHYSICALLY. The definition of balance is "to establish equal or appropriate proportions of elements in." Being focused in one health will have all the others lacking and people will know it by your behavior. We can't just put all our focus in one health, we must keep balance. As you keep balance, you will find yourself living life in abundance, free, and prospering in every way. 3 John 1:2 states, "Beloved, I pray that in every way you may prosper and enjoy good health, as your soul also prospers." Remember, you are a spiritual being with a soul in a body. The soul consists of your mental and emotional health as well as your will to choose. All three must be balanced on a daily basis.

It is okay to love yourself as much as you love others. Self-love is essential to your mental health. The self-love affirmation for today is I AM BEING MINDFUL OF WHAT I ALLOW IN MY SPACE AND HEART OR IT WILL TAKE ROOT IF I AM NOT CAREFUL. The definition of guard is "to watch over in order to protect or control." The definition of diligence is "careful and persistent work or effort." We are responsible for protecting our hearts from ruin, destruction, or damage. That which is within us will surface and determine our course of life. How the way we behave is being determined by how the way we think and feel. Cain from the Bible is a prime example of this. Deal with your issues instead of avoiding and spiritual bypassing it. It won't work. You will find yourself doing the same thing over and over. It is okay to seek therapy for issues of life for it is a resource for healing within the soul. Proverbs 4:23 states, "Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

It is okay to love yourself as much as you love others. Self-love is essential to your mental and emotional health. The self-love affirmation for today is I AM LOVING MYSELF AND OTHERS THE WAY THAT GOD LOVES ME. In this episode, I talk about you are already loved. God first loved us and because He first loved us, we can love ourselves and others. What is love? First Corinthians 13:4-8 states, "Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited, does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." This is the HCSB version.

It is okay to love yourself as much as you love others. Self-love is essential to your mental and emotional health. The self-love affirmation for today is I AM WHAT I AM BY THE GRACE OF GOD. In this episode I talked about soul-care. The definition of soul-care according to justdisciple.com is "the daily process of cultivating healthy thought patterns and taking inventory of emotions so that you can walk in obedience and live freely before God while also healthily forming meaningful relationships with other people." It is important to practice soul-care, self-care, and self-love. It is important because this is where it all begins, with you. As you have a healthy soul, you will have healthy relationships. As you take care of you, you can take care of others. As you love yourself, you will love others. Matthew 22:37-39 states, "Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" These self-love affirmation cards can be purchased at www.acclimatedtotherapy.com

It is okay to love yourself as much as you love others. Self-love is essential to your mental and emotional health. The self-love affirmation for today is I AM PRACTICING SELF-CARE BECAUSE IT IS SELF-LOVE. The definition of practice is "carrying out or performing a particular activity, method, or custom habitually or regularly." Learn the difference between selfish and self-love. In the Bible, Jesus Christ practiced self-care, so why not us? Why are we not learning from our prime example who is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Luke 5:16 states, "But He would withdraw to desolate places and pray." These self-love affirmation cards can be purchased at www.acclimatedtotherapy.com

It is okay to love yourself as much as you love others. Self-love is essential to your mental health. The self-love affirmation for today is I HAVE THE RIGHT TO SET BOUNDARIES AND SAY NO BECAUSE MY MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS. The definition of boundary is "a limit or rule you set for yourself and others to not cross or invade." Setting boundaries is a way of showing people you love yourself as much as you love them. And yes, it is biblical. Jesus is a prime example of setting boundaries. Jesus didn't overshare information and overexert Himself. He said no to certain requests & demands of others, told people the truth in love, and He didn't concern Himself with what people said about Him. And Jesus did all this without fear and guilt. Fear is not in love. If you are doing things out of fear, you have not been perfected in love. 1 John 4:18 states, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." These self-love affirmation cards can be purchased at www.acclimatedtotherapy.com

It is okay to love yourself as much as you love others. Self-love is essential to your mental health. The self-love affirmation for today is I AM STRONGER THAN I THINK BECAUSE OF HE THAT IS WITHIN ME. The definition of strong is "able to withstand great force or pressure." Circumstances in life can make you feel like giving up, things will not get better, or make you feel like you are not strong enough to stand or get through it. But it's all lies. God is your strong tower you can lean on and depend on during those trying and hard times. You will make it. You are strong enough to get through it. Things will get better. Remember the former things God brought you out of and believe He will get you through it again. Ephesians 6:10 states, "Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power." It is okay to love yourself as much as you love others. Self-love is essential to your mental health. The self-love affirmation for today is I AM AWARE I HAVE FLAWS AND GOD CAN USE THEM FOR HIS GLORY. The definition of flaw is "a fault or weakness in a person's character." In the Bible, Paul says he will gladly boast in his infirmities because it is the power of Christ that rests upon him. I want you to know that in spite of your weaknesses or flaws, you are still a winner. You are still loved. You are still wanted. You are okay just the way you are because God can use your weakness for His Glory. His power is revealed instead of your weakness because His grace is enough. What people or you may say that you lack, God say it is enough. So, love on every flaw you have because God has beautifully and wonderfully made you. It is okay to love yourself as much as you love others. Self-love is essential to your mental health. The definition of confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or in other words, firm trust. Put your confidence in knowing God has made provisions for what is yours and nothing can stop you from getting it. Trust in the fact that God knows the plans He has for you. Issues of Life Inc. is presenting a Mental Health Bible Study for three purposes:
1. To share knowledge about the psyche (soul) of human beings. Hence, this is where psychology comes from. Psyche which means soul. The seat of our feelings, thoughts, and willpower to choose.
2. To share knowledge that is not being taught in the church about mental health which is in the Bible. Yes, mental health is in the Bible.
3. To share knowledge that will set God's people free and make them whole, healed, and happy.
This episode was taught during the Mental Health Bible Study this past Monday. We discussed Romans 7: 19-25 when Paul wrote about his experience of wanting to do good, especially when he loves the law of God, but he did the opposite. This lesson discusses the reason behind what that is that is blocking you from doing what you love which is to obey God and do good. Question: Who and what is blocking you from obeying God and doing what is pleasing in His eyes?
