Join Sarah Kelleher and Tina Dullaghan as they discuss together and with guests the topic of Flourish: be you best self. Thought provoking discussions about science based research on happiness, positivity and how using storytelling and metaphors we can grow awareness of our best self, develop our view of the world and our natural place in it.
A throwback to a podcast we did in March of 2021 with Leanne Norman. In the podcast we discuss the lack of women in sports coaching.
In this episode we spoke to one of the leading researchers within the area of gender equality and issues of diversity related to sports coaching, sports leadership, and organisations. Professor Leanne Norman is a Professor of Sport and Sociocultural Studies and Director of the Research Centre for Social Justice in Sport and Society within the Carnegie School of Sport.
Leanne works very closely with sporting bodies to encourage them towards improving the participation, performance, and leadership pathways for diverse social groups, principally, different groups of women.
We talk about how she set on her pathway to her research, where it has taken her and how it continues to not only be research but very much part of who she is in her everyday. When discussing her workplace Leanne is keen to share that they are not just the typical academics in tweed but very much focused on "Research for impact research for practice..." this is what drives her and her team daily.
Leanne shares her experiences in different organisations and how some are further forward then others. The programmes she and her team work on are towards supporting women to enhance their experience of sports coaching as a credible and valuable profession, as well as working with organisations to support them towards creating diverse leadership and coaching workforces.
All of these are ares that are very important to both of us and so it was a privilege to have this discussion with Leanne and reinforce our desire to share more stories of people who are working in the same field.

Coreen, is a UEFA 'A' Licence football coach and is the Assistant coach to the England Women U16 football squad (Elite Coach Placement). At an early age Coreen’s introduction to football and sport was playing with her brothers. She talks about how having that safe space place to play and express herself has been the foundation of how she believes sport should be for everyone. Coreen, joins us to talk about sport being an inclusive and safe space for children and adults. How her journey has led her to working with Westminster City Council as a Relationship Manager - Physical Activity, creating the right environment for young people to flourish.
We talk about the joy of playing sport, the importance of psychological safety in sport and how as a coach reflection and seeking feedback will help you develop in your role. Mastering leadership is a priority for Coreen and using her platform to speak for others and empower them to truly flourish.
Coreen discusses with us the roles she has done to date, including her first role at QPR and the work she was able to go on to do at Arsenal with the Boys academy as their U15 Assistant Coach and with the Arsenal girls academy.

In this episode and in our new series we are asking our guests to explore their stories using The Hero's Journey. We are very excited to have fellow coaches and podcasters and basically coolest coaching wizards from The Magic Academy Rusty and Fletch (Russell Earnshaw and John Fletcher).
They join Sarah and I today to discuss their coaching journey from being rugby players, coaches and how that has shaped their coaching philosophy. It is a simple one, they want coaches to get better so that they and players can have better experiences through their sport whatever that sport may be.
Check out their website which has some fantastic resources for coaches across many sports and can also be used in the business world.
We talk about super coaches and the importance of development coaches being embedded in all sports and supported by governing bodies.
These guys believe in the importance of supporting coaches, creating communities of coaches whose purpose is to create excitement, fun, growth and ultimately create environments for players from grassroots to elite to truly flourish as people and players.
We also explore who influenced their coaching philosophy and inspired them also how they have both got a 'obsession' of learning and continuing to grow as coaches by seeking feedback and stretching themselves in different spaces, both in the sporting and business world.
Frankly, if you want to be a coach and improve as a coach, listen to these guys, they have so much to share and they want to hear your thoughts too.
Check out their podcast where, in their own words they..."love to hang with rockstars from the coaching world and get them sharing through some pretty cool questions"
This was such fun to be part of and interesting and inspiring...please take a listen and enjoy.

In this episode, we bring you Lelia Siddiqi. She is the driving force behind an innovative and inspiring approach to diversity and inclusion within the UK's Advertising Industry. She has been leading and galvanising groups, both within and outside of her the industry, by raising the bar and the debate around the role of women within the workplace. Leila has helped encourage young women to find a platform for their voices, through the IPAs groundbreaking Stepping Into The Spotlight series. Leila is also working on the inspiring and pivotal initiative the iList, which celebrates role models in the work place who are promoting inclusivity in advertising. And it doesn't stop there. Excitingly, the soon to be published (early December 2020) The Future of Fairness Report explores the make up and composition of the advertising industry as well as how that shows up on screen creatively.
She joins Sarah and I to talk about all of this, and about why women are not as confident asking for promotions or pay rises. How as women we often turn away from the discussion of money. We also cover why having a passion and a purpose in life can bring fulfilment and keep you optimistic.
We also discuss her role models and how they range from her Mother to the late Princess Diana and the fact that she is not fazed by celebrity...well, apart from Beyonce!
Check out the links above for information and webinars offered by The IPA.
We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

Today we are delighted to be joined by Mother and Daughter duo Pippa and Tess Howard, two people, who on their own are incredibly inspiring but together are a perfect balance and formidable force.
Pippa works at Fauna & Flora International where she dedicates her time to raising the worlds awareness to the impact humans have on our world. Her daughter Tess is a GB international hockey player with 34 caps and has been working to use the platform - the Women's Sports Trust - to raise awareness on issues close to her heart like diversity and access. Tess believes access to sport should be able to "...pave the way for young people to see sport as a place where children belong."
They join us to talk about Flourish pilar 'the role of mastery' in their lives and how that is driven by their own purpose. We discuss how lockdown has challenged the way they work, and also inspired each of them to look at different ways to master their individual skills and embody their purpose.
Tess's Instagram channel siblings do...# run with her brother is unique in the way it explores fun and often 'out of the box' exercises to hone up your hockey skills. Her energy, enthusiasm and joy of the game are the trademark of how she plays her hockey for both club and country which makes these short films a must see for all aspiring hockey players!
We discuss everything from travel, learning, kitchen habits, DIY and the curious existence of the Skort. Pippa and Tess were brilliant guests, listen to them both and get inspired! I found myself wishing I had my hockey stick to hand to have a play in the garden, I know Sarah will already be doing this!

Todays podcast was recorded a year ago whilst on our Flourish Retreat in Le Marche, Italy. Clearly the world has changed as a result of COVID 19 but we still wanted to share with you what happened so we can also start to think about next year and set up future podcasts where we will hear from guests on what life is like currently and how they are using their flourishing life style to prepare for a post covid era.
Sarah Kelleher and Tina Dullaghan introduce their thoughts, discussion and guest discussion on what Flourish: Be your best self means in every day life today and tomorrow.
