As the title of the podcast suggests, Savage and Sylvie can get pretty loud about a lot of things: starting and scaling companies, building amazing products, cold plunges. The content on the show really runs the gamut.
But this week, the thing they’re talking way too loud about is great ads. The ones that make us laugh, cry, and yes, even buy. So they sat down with Lia Khayami Quiñones, a Creative Director at Known Ad Agency, to get the lowdown on her creative process, explore the soup-to-nuts production on a specific campaign for Ubisoft’s iconic video game series, Just Dance, and learn what brands stand to gain by making edgier content.

Rand Fishkin is cofounder and CEO of SparkToro, makers of fine audience research software. He’s dedicated his professional life to helping people do better marketing through his writing, videos, speaking, and his book, Lost and Founder. In elementary school, Dillon’s first office was in his parents’ garage where he made miniature skateboards, which were the beginnings of him selling products internationally. In college at the University of Southern California, him and his co-founder, Jarett Chen, created a location-based messaging platform called Spop. They created UNUM to help solve their marketing and creative workflow for Spop because they couldn’t afford to hire a creative agency. Today, more than 16 million people in over 190 countries have used UNUM to manage their social media, from big brands to celebrities.

In 2011, Sahil left his job as the second employee at Pinterest to work on Gumroad. He wanted to sell an icon he designed in Photoshop to his audience on Twitter and Dribble, but realized there was no easy way for him to do it. In 2010, Jesse and his wife, professional runner Lauren Fleshman, co-founded Picky Bars from their hometown of Bend, Oregon. Previously, Chris interviewed Lauren as a guest on Brandwagon. Last year, Picky Bars eclipsed $4 million in revenue. What’s unique about their business is they’re 90% direct to consumer, which is a pretty big number on the direct to consumer side versus the vast majority of competitors. They contract manufacture all of their products to about four different facilities in the Pacific Northwest, and they have 10 employees fulfilling all of their shipments in-house out of Bend.
