Cornerstone Church: Recent Episodes

Cornerstone Church

Our podcast features content from our Pastors, Dr. Barry Burns and Rev. Ann Burns, who lead Cornerstone Church, based in Johnson City, TN.

We are proclaiming the unconditional love of God and His overflowing grace to the human race and what He has done through the cross of Jesus Christ to forgive, restore, heal and bless all who come to Him. This podcast serves as a tool to spread this message to those beyond our East Tennessee congregation to the ends of the earth.

Throughout the Old and New Testaments, we see that there are two realms that exist. There is the physical natural realm that is visible and there is the spiritual realm that is invisible. As Christians, we need to understand the reality of both realms and how to navigate them for our advantage.

James, Peter and Paul all wrote to the Church to be uncontaminated from the world.

This is a call to action for the Church then and a call to action for the Church now.

God has a mechanism in place whereby we might be insulated (saved, delivered from) the corrupting influence of the world. That mechanism is your sanctification. We came into this walk with God by saving grace. We now continue in that walk with God through His sanctifying grace. God will give us power through His grace to keep us from being contaminated by the things of the world.

There has been widely believed in the church that woman are forbidden to teach. This belief is based on the misunderstanding of some of Paul's writings. Without question, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit fell upon women and men alike, gifting them equally for ministry.

When Scriptures seem to contradict, it is necessary to dig a little deeper to find the truth.

In this series, Dr. Barry Burns carefully examines Paul's controversial instructions in the light of other Scriptures to give a full explanation of why women are NOT forbidden to teach in the church. In fact, the refreshing realities of numerous women ministers in the New Testament are clearly revealed!

“Most Christians believe God’s Grace makes the sinner righteous. But they do not believe God’s Grace makes the Christian righteous - as if we are led to the Cross, then left on our own to figure it out.” ~ Pastor Ann, It’s All Jesus

What Jesus came to do was earth shattering and game changing. He fulfilled the law. He did not add to the law. This New Covenant of Grace replaced the Old Covenant of works. Reconciliation was made between God and man.
