As we honor our graduating Seniors, we're reminded by Sam Yelverton (graduating Senior) that in Christ we are all given roots and wings. The roots have been planted, now it's time for the wings to take flight. Hear Sam's testimony as he brings a special word of encouragement that you won't want to miss!
Followers help followers. How are you helping a fellow follower? If we're going to succeed on this journey of discipleship, we're going to need a good wingman (or more). Why do we need wingmen, and how can we be a good one? James has some advice to not only survive, but thrive when things get crazy!
What will you do with failure? That could mean when you fail or when someone fails you. Because we're human, we're going to encounter failure. We can learn a lot about how to handle failure from Jesus' experience with the Disciples. One lesson Jesus teaches us: In Christ, failure is never final!
Does your inside match your outside? Jesus' most lively comments were always pointed at the Pharisees, largely because they looked good on the outside, but were full of greed and self-indulgence on the inside. How do we avoid this mistake and make our outside match our inside?
Do you believe this? This question comes directly from Jesus as he's preparing to raise Lazarus from the tomb. If we really believe that Jesus is the resurrection and the life, our lives should be different from the culture around us. So, how do we take that same resurrection power and live a life that's different?
What King are you looking for? If you're looking for one that comes in a destroys all your problems, Jesus may not be for you. But if you're looking for one who comes to free us from the power of sin and conquer death, Jesus in your King! And if Jesus in your King, then God will be your God. The only remaining question is, will we be His people?
The prophet Jeremiah tells of a new covenant that God will make with His people. In the new covenant, God will put His law in their minds and write it on their hearts. So, what is this new covenant, and how do we become part of it?
Today's scripture paints an interesing picture of hope, but the start is a little rough: we're dead and we can't fix it. Many of us experience the lingering symptoms of this death. Today we're covering the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth, who were righteous in God's sight, but also childless. Where was their joy? Their joy would come much later than expected, but also much greater than expected. Sometimes joy comes in the most unexpected ways and in the most unexpected timeline.
It's easy to take God's blessings and gifts for granted (i.e., display a lack of gratitude). When we are ungrateful or indifferent about what God has given us, we can become self-focused to the point where our gifts and opportunities actually become destructive to ourselves and others. What should we do with all that we've been given? If we are truly stewards, we should build God's Kingdom with the gifts we've been given and not place our hope in temporary and fleeting wealth. Examples from history (Ezra 4-6 and Haggai 1) show what happens when we turn our attention inward and what it takes to turn our attention to building God's Kingdom. According to history, building God's Kingdom is much more fulfilling and life giving to God's people and to the world.
Is money really a spiritual thing? Jesus talked a lot about money, and it turns out the money can profoundly impact our spiritual well-being. It's not that money and wealth are bad things, but how we handle them has profound ramifications for our well-being. The key question for a Jesus follower is, "Do you have money, or does your money have you?" Come and hear we can navigate the issue of wordly wealth with spiritual savvy!
Being a Jesus follower means we have everything, but own nothing! If that's news to us, then here's a new way of thinking that will change our lives. If that's an excuse to not care for anything (since we don't own it), then here's a reminder that we are called to care for the King's Kingdom, and we are called to excellence in the process!
This might be one of the hardest questions for Jesus followers to deal with: "Why ____?" You have probably filled in the blank: why suffering, why disease, why pain? How could a loving God allow these things? While there are no easy answers, there is one clear example: we'll take our cues from Jesus himself, and in the process, find a clear approach filled with confidence, mercy, and grace.
If we are people who have received unmerited favor (i.e., Grace), then why is it so hard to extend that grace to others? What motives create judgment and hypocrisy, and how do we learn to steer clear of them? If we are to be true Jesus followers, it's healthy to examine our motives and land in a place of grace, for ourselves and others!
Sometimes (or all the time), people have doubts about the Christian faith. What's our response? Do we avoid their questions because we don't know how to respond? Do we keep our distance so we don't catch a case of doubt ourselves? The short answer is, Christianity doesn’t have anything to hide. We can go to the Bible, to the church, and to God with our questions and doubts. Come and be a part of the longer answer!
How do we feel about those who have left the faith? Do we leave room for their return, or do we hold on to some sense of superiority for remaining "faithful?" What's the right approach? We can take our cue from Jesus as he tells a story of reconciliation based on a redeeming love.
We've talked about what we do (mission), we've talked about why we do (Value), and we've talked about how to find the unique vision that God has for us (see the previous 3 sermons). What's left? HOW to do all these things. We'll look at WordServe's "How" as well as finding the proper source of motivation to keep our passion burning for sharing the Good News.
Wouldn't it be nice to know what God's vision is for the future? What if there was a way to discern God's vision? What would it take for us to see... and act on that vision? Join us as we explore what God's vision might look like for us today!
Values are the core of what we believe. Values should be both said, and seen in the way we live. So, what are the values that Jesus follower should live? And how do we learn to live those values in a way that bring God glory and people closer to Christ?
What are supposed to be doing as Jesus followers? Jesus was pretty clear and commissioned us with this directive: "Go and make disciples..." God desires to restore us, but to what end? Is it all about comfort, or is there something bigger we're preparing for? The most common reply to the question, "Where do you find strength?" was from family and friends. But family and friends are human and imperfect. How do you define peace? What brings you peace? How we answer these questions can make a huge difference in how we engage (or disengage) from the world around us. The challenge is that we want peace, but we're also called to engage with the world (Go and make disciples!). Can we have peace AND make disciples?

Many feel that our morals are declining. What should we do? We turn to Proverbs 29:18! Some texts translate this passage as "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Others say, "Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint." What happens when we cast off our vision of God? And how do we prevent that?

Mary's song is one of the most hope-filled and joyous declarations in Scripture. But Mary's condition put her at great risk, and created incredibly difficult relationship issues with her betrothed, Joseph. Why would God create such hardships and then declare that a blessing? Zechariah and Elizabeth were faithful and blameless in the sight of God. But they had two strikes against them in their culture: they were not able to conceive, and they were "well-advanced" in years. How did they go from two strikes against them to hitting a home run? God shows us once again, it's never too late when God's involved!
If ever someone deserved a reward for their faithfulness, it would be Simeon. Though he'll see the baby that will change the world, he knows he'll never live long enough to see that baby as an adult. A vehicle won't travel very far without fuel. And faith won't travel very far without a source of continuous renewal and guidance. How can we attain that endless supply that keeps faith going, no matter what the obstales may be? Fortunately, we have a leader that both guides AND supplies!
Clear vision helps us see what our mission and values will look like when lived out. On the other hand, a lack of clarity in vision can cause disorder and chaos, for individuals and for society. How do we get, and maintain, a clear vision of God? How does that help us live out our mission and values in a way that honors God?
Your "To-Do" list will reflect your values. As a Jesus follower, what should we value, and how does that impact the way we live and spread the gospel? Scripture repeatedly tells us that love is the most important thing in our walk with Christ, so how do we love with God's "real love?" In Jesus and in Scripture, we learn that God's love is a transforming and redeeming love. In short, God's love changes everything!
We are called to make disciples, not converts. Too often we call a conversion a success without recognizing the need to carry out the rest of the mission: teaching people how to follow Christ. We'll discuss some ways to continue to grow in Christlikeness, first for ourselves, and then for others.
The Bible is clear: each part of the body of Christ is necessary, even though different. But when imperfect humans are in fellowship with each other, there will be hurt. Even the heroes of the faith were hurt and hurt others. What was their secret that allowed them to continue as the Body of Christ and bring glory to God? How can we do the same?
The tounge is small but mighty. The same tongue that can praise can cut down and have massive impact on communities and nations. But the tongue doesn't act on it's own, it's just an outpouring of something deeper. We'll learn how to not only control the tongue, but the engine that drives it, so we might be builders rather than destroyers.
How much trust do you put in someone who says, "Do what I say, not what I do?" Surveys show that a number of people avoid church because of the hypocrisy they find there. How can we become a body of Christ that is trustworthy, even if we're not perfect? Maybe the answer lies in embracing a process rather than projecting perfection.
Have you ever experienced "Cancel Culture?" As a Jesus follower, can we participate in cancel culture? And more importantly, can Christ be canceled? Come and explore ways to resolve and reconcile, rather than cancel our relationship with others. If the ultimate goal is reconciliation (according to God's plan), we must learn what it means to live in covenant, communicate for reconciliation, and love with God's love. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? Ask Christ on the cross and then choose your next steps accordingly.
Do you feel distant from God? Perhaps it's guilt and shame from things that we've done that keep us distant. Or perhaps it's a hard and stubborn heart that blocks the flow of God's love through us. Either way, God has a simple, yet profound message for you today: "Come Home!"
Conflict doesn't happen in a vaccuum. A person who would honor God must examine hard questions, like "What is my part in this conflict?" and then own it. If we miss this essential step in reconciliation, we will ultimately miss reconciliation altogether. How can we do that when we so often want to blame someone else for the conflict?
Believe it or not, often the best "first thing to do" when conflict arises is to pause. Some call it a "tactical pause," during which we lift our concerns to God so that whatever follows is something that can honor God. A good question to ask in this pause is, "How can I honor God in whatever happens next?" What are some ways we can make this happen?
How should we conduct ourselves in the face of an enemy who is intent on destroying the very fabric of our society? Daniel provides a perfect example of how to hold the line despite being set up to fail. We often ask if God is faithful, but how do we ask if we are faithful to God? And what can God do with that kind of faithfulness?
David and Goliath is not so much about the underdog winning against a bigger opponent as it is about a God who is bigger than any opponent. The ultimate lesson behind David's encounter is that the battle belongs to the Lord. How can we remember (and apply) that concept in our modern setting?
God is easy to follow beside the still waters, but more difficult to follow through the Red Sea. The Israelites could see everything that was going wrong, but would their faith allow them to see how God was at work, even in the midst of their perceived helplessnes? What can we learn about walking by faith, not by sight? Come and learn the "Fear Formula" to combat those times when fear tries to grip us and hold us back from what God has to offer.
How bad can sin be? Bad enough to cause regret from the Creator of the Universe and bad enough to call a "do-over" on civilization. But who really pays the price for sin? The answer might surprise you as we re-tell this children's story of the impact of a society that has lost their way, and what God is willing to do to prevent it from ever happening again.
The Apostle Paul carries a confidence that God will complete the work He began in the Philippian's church. But what does he mean by "complete?" And how might this apply to a congregation in today's culture? Let's learn from the Philippian's experience so that we also might discern what is best and be pure and blameless in our Father's eyes.
What if someone told you that whatever you do will prosper? Psalm 1 makes that promise, but of course, the promise comes with a process, and the prosperity may not be what we think. Join us as we explore this process that helps us yield fruit for God's kingdom and gives us an unending source of strength for the day.
What we see on the outside is a reflection of our inside. As we examine our lives, do we find fruit of the Spirit, or of the flesh? And if we desire the fruit of the Spirit, how do we get such fruit? The answer is not on the outside, but on the inside. It's a process that requires regular attention, but the results are well worth the effort!
Becoming mature in our faith does not occur without trials. But the way we handle those trials can greatly impact the process of maturity. Learn what James has to say about the process that starts with trials and ends with Christlikeness and focus!
This is a day to remember those who have fallen. But what do the fallen have to teach the living? The Psalmist prays that God would teach us to number our days that we might gain a heart of wisdom. Remembering our death can change our perspective on how we live today. Remembering Christ's death adds to the mix. Come and learn how to gain wisdom for today!

In Matthew, Jesus tells us not to store up treasures where moths eat, rust destroys, and theives steal. But in Proverbs, the dilligent work of the ant is praised in storing up for winter. Is there a "proper way to prep" for Christians that balances being responsible for our needs and going overboard to hoard?
Jesus tells us not to worry about everyday life. In fact, he asks a great question: "Can worrying add even a single hour to our lives?" The answer is no. Worry can't add. But worry can subtract. It can subtract quality of life and years off of life expectancy. How exactly are we supposed to "Not worry?"
One of Jesus' last phrases from the cross was, "It is Finished." But is his story finished? Does it end at the cross? How does that story impact us today?
Jesus' last words from the cross are, "It is finished." But what is finished? And what exactly did Christ have to do to finish well? Jesus' cry from the cross can be heart-renching and troubling. What kind of Father abandons his only Son? And if God can't be in the presence of sin, doesn't that weaken God? (It sounds like Superman meets kryptonite!). Why would I want anything to do with a God like that? Maybe because Jesus' cry from the cross isn't what it seems... What if it's a victory cry? That changes everything!
