Was It Trauma...or a Brain Injury?
In this raw, in-the-car episode, I open up about something I’ve never fully talked about — the invisible symptoms of post-concussion syndrome and how they’ve affected my life and recovery.
After overdoing it on a bike ride, I fell into a physical and cognitive relapse that left me confused, exhausted, and deeply frustrated. I now know it was a resurgence of TBI symptoms, something that often gets overlooked in women, especially those with a history of domestic abuse.
This isn’t medical advice — it’s my personal story. But if any of this sounds familiar to you, it might be worth exploring further. 💌 Let me know what you’re experiencing. Your story matters too.
🔗 Resources and articles:
Brain injuries often go unrecognized among domestic violence victims Nearly a quarter of women experience physical abuse from partners, and up to 90% of those women have had at least one concussion. Most don’t get screened or diagnosed. Full article here: https://www.nbcnews.com/health/womens-health/brain-injuries-undiagnosed-untreated-domestic-violence-rcna183637 Domestic Violence and Traumatic Brain Injury: The Chilling Truth of This Hits Home Full article here: https://www.americanbrainfoundation.org/domestic-violence-and-traumatic-brain-injury-the-chilling-truth-of-this-hits-home/ This article is about a documentary you can watch about this topic. It’s called “This Hits Home” and it’s about the prevalence of TBIs in domestic violence survivors as well as the sad fact that many aren’t screened for head injuries and they are the ones who have more trouble recovering. I haven’t seen it yet but will do a review, when I do. Here are some relevant excerpts from this article. The Silent Epidemic of DV-TBI One in four American women will experience severe violence from a domestic partner in their lifetime, often resulting in significant trauma to the head and neck. Over 75% of domestic violence survivors suffer single or repeated traumatic brain injuries, most of which go unreported. Despite these alarming statistics, DV-TBI is still critically under-researched.
“I don’t think the connection [between TBI and DV] has been made on a wide scale,” Scotia says. This is due in part to the lack of awareness and education about the signs and symptoms of TBI, particularly with regard to instances of domestic violence.
Brain banks collect brain and tissue samples from donors after their death, distributing these samples to researchers and labs across the United States. However, current brain banks do not have enough samples from women with documented histories of DV-TBI and CTE, making it difficult to research the link between the two.
“It seems obvious that women who suffer repeated TBIs from DV are going to get the same neurodegenerative brain diseases as men,” Scotia says. “But it’s hard to distinguish whether Alzheimer’s disease, CTE, post-concussion syndrome, multiple mental health struggles, or another disease or condition is the main issue for them. Add the fact that nobody wants to talk about DV, and we’re getting very little research on women’s brains.”

Massachusetts Passes Coercive Control Bill! What this Means for Survivors In this episode, I discuss the recent passing of the Coercive Control Bill in Massachusetts, the celebration I attended with many incredible survivors and advocates. And what the passing of the bill means for survivors of domestic abuse.
Key Points: * Massachusetts unanimously passed the Coercive Control Bill, becoming the 7th state to classify coercive control as a form of domestic violence. * The bill (H4744) expands protections against abuse and exploitation, including laws against revenge porn. * Coercive control is defined as a pattern of behavior intended to threaten, intimidate, harass, isolate, control, or compel compliance of a family or household member. * The law doesn't criminalize coercive control but allows it to be considered a criminal violation of a protective order.
Highlights: * Meeting with advocates and survivors at the celebration event * Discussion on the need for further legislation and support for survivors * Importance of addressing post-separation abuse and ongoing support for survivors
Resources Mentioned: * Perfect Prey podcast * Dr. Lisa Fontes' website * Article on Massachusetts Coercive Control Law * Coercive Control Consulting - Legislation Information
Books Mentioned: * "Invisible Chains" by Dr. Lisa Fontes * "Framed" by Dr. Christine Cociola (upcoming release)
Call to Action: * Educate yourself about coercive control * Contact your local domestic violence agency if you suspect coercive control * Reach out to state legislators to support coercive control legislation * Share ideas for supporting survivors, especially in post-separation scenarios
Get Involved: * Check out TRAC (Together Rising Above Coercion) in Massachusetts * Look for similar initiatives in your state

When we seek validation about narcissistic abuse, we think it's helping us heal. But be warned: The Truth About Narcissistic Abuse Validation is not what we think. We're drawn to memes and videos that validate our experience, comfort us, and maybe even help us feel seen...and sane. But is this the best thing for us to heal and grow beyond the abusive programming? In this episode, I'm sharing some thoughts about how we use content to validate our feelings and what can happen as as result. Bethenny's Mom Passed - what happened to the divorce videos?
Bethenny Frankel was on a role sharing about her messy 10-year divorce and my last podcast was all about this. But what happened to Bethenny's divorce videos?" When she decided to share about her divorce, I was ecstatic and shared why I think she'll be a solid, outspoken catalyst for awareness around emotional abuse, coercive control, and more. Then I saw that her mom died just a few days after I posted the podcast. Heartbreaking and awful timing given the roll she was on and how great she reports she was feeling. Stating that she felt, "Good" and "free."
I figured she would pause her episodes to grieve the loss of her mother.
However, a listener shared that the videos have been pulled down. ") This is about why she pulled them down, her plan IS to share more information moving forward and an alternate place to get information regarding the details of her divorce (BRAVO Docket, link below) if you can't wait or are now so curious about her specific situation.
Please subscribe to her channel and remember to click the bell to be notified when she goes live or shares. It seems like she's on a roll, so we can expect more.

Bethenny Frankel's Messy 10-Year Divorce - She's Sharing So We Can Learn
As a longtime fan of Bethenny Frankel, I've been waiting for her to share more about her relationship with her former husband and father of their daughter, Bryn. As outspoken as she is, she clearly had a gag order in place for many years. And she now considers herself an "expert on Divorce" as she researched and dug deep to help her case. I caught a YouTube Live with Bethenny sharing that she's decided to share the details of her divorce. And she aims to help other women! Imagine what Bethenny Frankel can do to spread awareness around narcissism and post-separation abuse, including family court corruption. She's a black belt in verbal jujitsu and can sling memorable one-liners effortlessly. Her impact WILL BE FELT. I immediately recorded this after watching, and she went live again today before I could get this out. You can catch her previous videos below. In this episode I have some raw and vulnerable moments about this year and reflect on what I believe I need to work on with my own stinkin' thinkin'. New Study Uncovers the 16 Early Warnings Signs of Emotionally Abusive Partners In this episode, I dive into brand new research that pinpoints behaviors you should look out for early on in a romantic relationship that could indicate your partner has the potential for emotional abuse, physical violence, and controlling tactics down the road.
The study comes from the University of Western Ontario in Canada, with the goal of uncovering what factors accurately predict if intimate partner violence is likely.
I share the 16 predictors the researchers identified - ranging from pressuring you into sex to creating uncomfortable public situations. A few stand out as being particularly concerning if they happen early in dating.
Some of the key signs to pay attention to:
The more of these that you notice, the higher likelihood of future abuse in the relationship. While a few issues here and there can potentially be worked on, a pattern of multiple signs is a red flag.
I also discuss talking to your teenagers about healthy and unhealthy behaviors in both friendships and dating relationships. Getting this information early helps them identify poor treatment before it becomes normalized in their relationships.

In this podcast episode, Steph discusses the advantages of entrepreneurship for mothers who have survived narcissistic or toxic abuse. Steph shares that being an entrepreneur provides a sense of independence and control, which is empowering after experiencing control in a previous relationship. Starting a business can rebuild confidence, provide a sense of purpose, and connect survivors with others. When you're rebuilding your identity and starting over this infuses you with confidence. Flexibility is another advantage of entrepreneurship, allowing mothers to create a schedule that works for them and their families. Financial stability is also a benefit, although it may not be financially feasible in the beginning. Steph encourages listeners to take advantage of free resources, such as highly targeted podcasts, to build their brand and attract customers. Overall, entrepreneurship can provide a fresh start and a way for survivors to take control of their future. Check out the Audacious Mamas podcast and join the email list to be the first to learn more about the community, support for your dream, and learning valuable skills to start a new business or income stream as a side hustle. https://www.audaciousmamas.com/podcast Here's a breakdown of the reasons why there are so many advantages for moms and parents who are starting over.
Hello! I hope you're well and caring for yourself through this emotionally turbulent time. In this episode, I'm letting you know where I am with the podcast and my current goals as I manage major life challenges with my children and, like everyone else, do my best to keep my chin up in the midst of life.
I'm sharing that I'm shifting a bit to focus on my other podcast, Audacious Mamas, to help ambitious single moms survivors of narcissistic abuse who are creating businesses and additional income streams. I'll interview people and share content on branding, visibility, mindset, spirituality, self-care, mental health, and more. If this is YOU, please reach out via my guest form so we can connect. I'd love to have you on the podcast to share your story and your business! Seriously, don't second guess it, reach out! :-)
In this episode I'm curating a few things that I found helpful, writing and an interview that's super insightful. First, a piece of writing from Joanne Sacred Scribes about a spiritual awakening that's relevant if you feel yourself changing your interests, your moods, connection to spirit, connection to others, things you're noticing in your daily life and noticing them in ways that make you feel "different" or like you're just not yourself.
Yes, some of this can be depression or something related to stress, but many are feeling something deeper and more all-encompassing. And if you've had depression, you'll know this feeling isn't quite the same because there are definite highs and bursts of inspiration mixed in with lows and emotional breakdowns among other things. I think she covers this topic in a nuanced way that's relatable..
Second, I'm sharing some nuggets from two of my favorite narcissist experts, Dr. Ramani Durvasula and Doctor Les Carter, aka Dr. C. They had an excellent discussion on Dr. Carter's Surviving Narcissism channel. They have some overlap but different approaches to narcissists and narcissistic recovery, and both are super valuable--check it out!

Hello, this week I'm talking about the mental cage we have in our minds. It's that thing that stops us from being our best selves, our true selves, from honoring the voice that was once there and was slowly eroded by the programming of toxic relationships, specifically those where coercive control and manipulation are at play.
One consistent pattern I've seen with myself and fellow survivors of emotional, financial, mental, or sexual and physical abuse. You finally get out of one of these relationships, and you're like, oh, I'm free!
But you quickly realize you're NOT FREE because this experience built a cage in your mind through years of abuse, manipulation, and coercive control.
In this episode, I share about an interview that lit a fire within me and helped me see this pattern and a way out that can help many of us over the long term.
It's not a quick fix, and it's all about incremental change. Those 1% tweaks in our behavior trigger shifts in how we frame our lives. They're catalysts for more profound change, allowing us to create a new story and identity, breaking through the well-worn programming we may not even be aware of.
I'm speaking from the heart here, addressing many challenges in my life right now and doing my best to reframe all of it and move forward each day vs. seeing what didn't get done. We're so hard on ourselves even in a crisis, and it's destructive. But we can turn it around and create a new way of life.

Today I have Jessica Perkins, Toy Maker, Parent Coach, and homeschooling mom of three. I wanted to interview Jessica to share her story, her Table Talk connection cards for families to improve communication--not just at the table anywhere you have time together and want to draw your children out.
Jessica has a great story about how her business evolved and how she landed into her urge to create with her focus on children and early childhood education. She went with it and launched MamaMayI.shop, her toy and learning company.
She's not just a successful mompreneur and coach but also a single parent who's shown incredible resilience these past few years, including being displaced and losing a brand new home in a hurricane last year that destroyed her workspace. She trudges on and has an incredible spirit. I think you'll find this episode inspiring and motivating to find a deeper connection to your kids and yourself.

I've missed you! I love podcasting. I love creating content. And I so love being able to help people and earn a living.
These past two months have been rough, and I don't want to sugarcoat what my kids and I have been through. I definitely wouldn't wish it on anyone.
So this episode is about what life throws our way and how we as caregivers will likely take a hit when someone gets sick, needs to be hospitalized, or needs a higher level of care from us for some time. We must set up our lives to account for these gaps of complete demand on our time.
Being more strategic with my earnings and creating income streams that aren't dependent on my time is now an absolute necessity, as is my daughter's recovery and overall mental wellness as a family.
QUESTIONS for YOU
1) Are you a mama or caregiver who started a side hustle or launched a new business over the last two years to gain more flexibility, get ahead with inflation, and gain control over your life and income?
I'd love to hear and share your story, how it went, and whether it was a success or a flop. I'll shine the spotlight on you, and hopefully, we can all learn from you if you're a guest on the podcast!

**2) Are you interested in getting on podcasts as a guest and leveraging their audience?
If so, what are your questions or thoughts? Send them my way! If I use your ideas for my new course, I'll shout you out and give you 30% off. :-)**
Reach out to me at Steph at stephaniroberts dot com
**3) Are you craving a community of like-minded mamas and audacious women who are driven to thrive and create more income streams, and support each other?
If so, where do you prefer to show up?**

I recorded this video in June and sat on it. It's one of many I recorded in response to my channel's Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial and comments. I recorded another response last week, but this original is more natural, so I decided to let it flow without editing. I've been asked questions, and here finally responding to some of what came up while I was posting, including suggestions to have Lundy Bancroft back as a guest.
As I've been saying, I feel strongly that dwelling in the darkness doesn't serve us, and we will all be better off finding ways to reach for and stay in the light.
Focusing on what's possible, finding more purpose, and creating ways to improve life are all far more helpful than arguing over celebrity breakups and media spin. That's what I aim to do!
I'm inviting you to tune in and do your best to play with me weekly as we try to stay in the light despite dark times and the swirl around us. My upcoming videos will be about everything from preparing for or thriving as a single mother to finding simple ways to increase your income and get your time back through side hustles, affiliate marketing, an online business, and more. Also, spiritual support, mindset shifts, tools for your online business, success stories, and experts can help with all of the above.
Turn dark times around!

There's no question that these are dark times. I accept that. Heaps of doom and gloom are being served to us, and it's nearly impossible to dodge. Important news and events impact our lives and the lives of fellow humans. But dwelling in the darkness doesn't serve us, and we will all be better off finding ways to reach for and stay in the light.
I believe that when we're in dark times, it's a good idea to focus on what's good and possible, find more purpose, and create ways to make life better. Doing so has a positive ripple effect in life, and anyone around us can feel it. It creates hope and gives us the fuel we need to impact change.
So I'm inviting you to tune in and do your best to play along with me weekly as we try to stay in the light to spite these dark times and the swirl around us.
Join me in using the Best Year of Your Life kit by Debbie Ford. It's FREE, FUN, and one way to strive for more while we face real challenges.
A growth mindset, belief in something and positive support are the two main things we need to stretch and grow. And I'm happy to be here with you to do this together so we can get through the dark days and deep challenges. We'll follow prompts each week by Debbie Ford, a beloved personal transformation expert who appeared on Oprah numerous times before passing in 2013. We can challenge ourselves to grow and make choices that support us in moving in a positive direction.

Stephanie Pianades went into Massachusetts family court looking for help. That was it. One little thing. She went in looking for one help with one little thing, and it snowballed into a monumental challenge that altered her life and the life of her 10-year-old daughter, and as she says, "it will never go back to the way it was."
This interview is a cautionary tale about Family Court Abuse, Parental Alienation, DARVO, and Post-separation Abuse. It's not easy to digest but extremely important for parents. We make assumptions about the court system, the main one being that it will protect our children or us. The dark truth is that this is not the case. The family court system is broken.
Learn the steps to take to prevent court abuse and parental alienation. The first step is finding vetted attorneys who understand the dynamics of narcissistic abuse and how they can weaponize the court system against the other parent.
Stop Abuse Campaign offers top-notch resources to help protective parents fight for their children and win against systemic and other forms of abuse.

Many of us are busy watching or actively avoiding the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard trial. It's triggering, and I've felt it myself. I've had to walk away many days because it's too much.
As I've mentioned, I have another interview coming up with Stephanie Pianades, that's important an important case for parents related to custody and flipping the script. I know it will be triggering. As a parent of young daughters, I had a tough time making it through the interview.
So I wanted to have an expert to help us all manage triggers related to past trauma before her episode airs.
Stacy Every is a certified EFT practitioner and coach who has experience as a survivor of abuse. She gets it. In this episode, she gives us numerous quick tips and tools to follow up on and explore more deeply to help with trauma, triggers, and finding ways to get grounded and rebalance back into our bodies.
This episode will be up on my youTube channel if you want to see how tapping works. Stacy demonstrates tapping using the meridians of our body, and it's a little tough to explain via audio-only.
I'll link the video here as soon as it's live on YouTube.
NOTE: If anything I post or share is triggering to you, please step away. Follow Stacy's ideas for getting grounded and decide whether you should avoid it altogether or come back later when you feel well, grounded, and strong.
I care about you and totally appreciate you being here, but also only want what's 100% right for you. xoxo
Thank you for listening!
If this was helpful for you, please subscribe, consider sharing with someone who needs to hear this, and leave a comment or an iTunes review.
These things are a big help for the podcast and expand our audience and help others in the same shoes find ways to gain strength and heal.

Mother's Day - Honoring Moms through loss - celebrating YOU! Man, it has been a crazy wild last two years, and I was thinking about this episode and how to honor moms and all that moms have been through because I think of all that people have been through, the most significant weight has been put upon mothers and mother figures, caregivers, for sure, over the last two years.
And so some moms are just spent and at their wit's end, and some mothers, through all of this, have learned to figure out more self-care, how to realign themselves, maybe with better jobs or with delegating things around the house so that they can take back their time and not be this wonder woman, super supermom.
And then many of us also have lost parents. I lost my mom 16 years ago. Her mom right after that, so two maternal figures poof!--both were gone. I didn't have my kids until two years later, but that hole was there. Through this pandemic, so many people have lost their parents, their mothers, and loved ones. Or their parents are battling illness now. It's a lot, and it can make this day a big mixed bag of emotions.
I get it. I'm sharing some thoughts about my mother, my grandmother, the sorrow I've felt for my mother never meeting my children, and how I turned that around last year, determined to start a new tradition for Mother's Day. And I have some ideas for turning things around for yourself so life can be sweeter and you can maintain more life in life in spite of inflation, pandemics, and dark news in the world.

Amber Heard is perpetuating the stereotype that women create false charges against men. While that does happen, I know many cases where the men are able to spin in the opposite direction and take a woman who's been victimized and turn her into the abuser. They cut off her connection to her children and create a restraining order and paint her in the most negative light possible. I have a guest interview with Stephanie Pianades coming up in May, and her abuser (ex husband) was able to flip the script and turn her world upside down by using her daughter as a pawn in the courts. This is a serious problem.
And REAL victims of domestic violence are enraged by Amber Heard's lies, manipulation, sense of entitlement, and utter disrespect for actual victims as she continues to wear the badge of Domestic Violence survivor and advocate.
I cover all of that in this episode and also share a related piece of good news from DV Leap, a national non-profit organization that fights for appellate advocacy for DV survivors who've been wronged in court. They have pro bono lawyers working to help survivors in all 50 states and they just had a big win in my home state, Massachusetts. I share the details in this episode.
My aim is to share all of this for awareness but also to build some faith and how for victims who've had the script flipped and don't feel there's anywhere to turn. Please reach out to DV Leap for support and see if they will take your case or help you with research related to your case.

Jada Pinkett Smith image - Jerry Avenaim, CC BY-SA 3.0 , via Wikimedia Commons
Everybody is aware of the Will Smith incident at the Oscars. Since I recorded this, a few things have happened, but I thought I'd weigh in on which of these two is "the Narcissist," Will or Jada Pinkett Smith.
I wasn't going to comment on this situation at all, but it seems like it's something that's not going away. And I found the ongoing conversation around narcissism interesting, especially the question of which one is the victim in their relationship.
So this is a quick episode where I explore what I've learned since it happened and what I already knew.
More has transpired since recording this episode--Will was banned from the Oscars for ten years and seemed to accept his fate.
Jada has distanced herself from Will and behaves like the embarrassed independent woman who doesn't need her man to stand up for her. Fascinating shift, given her initial reaction to Will slapping Chris.
Hers is a move for reputation management and another DIS-missal of Will.
As far as what people are thinking about these two, I posted a quick poll on my youTube channel. Poll results show that 38% say Jada is the narcissist, 25% say it's Will, and 15% say both are. The remaining 25% don't care and want them to go away.
You may be with that last bunch. :-)
At the very least, I'm happy that all these celebrity relationships gone awry are shining the spotlight on what narcissism looks like and creating conversation around it.
It underscores the fact that narcissist dynamics in relationships know no socio-economic bounds.
Suppose our onscreen hero with power, money, and fame, someone who portrayed Mohammed Ali, is also the victim of his wife. In that case, people may begin to understand the dynamics of their neighbor, sister, or co-worker stuck in the same type of relationship.
But I'm curious, what are your thoughts?
Which of these two is the narcissist, and who is the victim?
Please shoot me a message -- I want to hear from you!
Thanks from the heart for listening. I hope you're remembering to take time to take care of yourself and look for the light in the middle of all the darkness in our world. It's not easy these days but it does help get us through!
Lots of Love!
In this episode, I share some surprising and not so surprising findings related to trauma and its impact on our brain. Living through a traumatic situation can severely impact your memory, your cognition, your emotions, your ability to self-regulate, all of those things.
I found a video about the neurobiological impact of trauma on the brain, and it was eye-opening for me. I knew we could have PTSD and trauma-related physical manifestations, such as auto-immune disorders. But, this video spelled out genuine damage to our brains, creating significant challenges as we attempt to heal and recover from abuse and trauma.
And if we're not aware of this, it becomes easy to fall into self-blame, shame, major disappointment, and a negative spiral that prevents healing and progress in life. It can also create more isolation and alienation--the exact opposite of what will help us heal.
As much as we may be stuck in a loop of distrust, shame, bitterness, depression, anxiety, we need supportive humans in our life. We just do.
So, I'm reaching out to set up my first block of one-on-one calls with you.

I appreciate your patience if you've followed my lead-up to interviewing Lundy Bancroft.
This interview is coming in the nick of time with the holiday season.
Maybe you've been drawn back to the sparkly seasonal web of Love Bombing.
Maybe you're feeling guilty and questioning whether this version of them is REAL. And you've temporarily forgotten most of the hurtful things they've done throughout your relationship.
Or you're out of the relationship and now managing thoughts and ruminating about interactions and trying to figure out what makes this person tick and WHY they do the things they do.
Lundy covers
Note: this network is not specifically for abuse survivors and is meant for people outside of deep crisis who are able to give 50% and receive 50%. Focus on YOU 100% first, if you're in deep crisis.
You should know
Lundy said, "Both narcissists and abusers do a lot of collecting allies." Boy does that ring true! You may be feeling the destruction and erosion of your reputation or relationships due to their actions.
You may be regrouping and dealing with trauma from an ongoing invasion of your loved ones and friends network.
Please take extra good care of yourself and find at least one person who can validate and understand your experience.
And if no one near you understands, focus on yourself and do what feels good to lift your spirit.
Move physically, pray or meditate, dance around to music, start a short gratitude journal each night and morning to focus on what's good and going right in your life. Look for the tiniest things that make your day.
I hope this interview helps answer some questions about abusers and their behaviors. And I would love to know what stood out for you and if more questions surfaced.

Toxic families are difficult enough to be raised in. For outsiders, being brought in via dating, marriage, friendships, the family dynamic, and what it creates in adult children can be highly confusing to people raised in healthier homes.
This episode is about toxic clan family dynamics, why they behave the way they do, how confusing it is, and why understanding their foundation of secrets and lies can help depersonalize the attacks, barbs, and ostracizing you if you're pushed out.

If you've been feeling disconnected, stuck, or paralyzed, sensing a deep yearning for something more, it may be a desire to find safe people to be with in real life. People who are accepting won't judge you for opening up and sharing what you're going through.
There's a collective desire to be seen and heard and indeed find a point of connection with other human beings.

Gabby Petito did not have an anger problem. I believe what we saw on video was Reactive Abuse.
I share what Reactive Abuse is and why it can create more problems for the victim and help the abuser look innocent.
I've been creating response videos as podcasts to address what I've seen in comments and the media regarding the Gabby Petito case. Mainly based on people assuming she was off-kilter with mental health problems, whiney, or had anger issues. I believe she was suffering from mental health issues but that they were brought on by living with an abusive partner. And what people witnessed as well what she described in the video was reactive abuse. I believe she was exhausted. She was lashing out pushed to the limit by her boyfriend, Brian--now on the run following her murder.
If you or a friend is in one of these relationships and seeking help or more information on how to handle it please call or visit the Domestic Violence hotline for anonymous support via phone/text or online.

Gabby Petito's Obvious Abuse signs were missed. In this video, I share the classic signs of emotional abuse and control associated with narcissistic abuse and all the "professionals" who identified Brian as the victim and dismissed the signs that many of us viewing the police bodycam video saw as obvious classic signs. All of this points to the need for more Abuse Identification Training which could have saved her life.
If you know someone in one of these abusive and controlling relationships, or if you see yourself in Gabby's story, please reach out to the Domestic Violence hotline. You can do so anonymously.
They can listen, offer support, and help you understand the cycle of abuse and how to get help or get out.

After my interview with Katrina Sorrentino about leaving a toxic relationship much of what she said struck a cord. One thing that stood out was the need to calm our nervous systems. It's essential and it coincided with multiple lessons and content about this from Somatic Therapists who help heal trauma.
In this short episode, I'm sharing my thoughts before we move on to the next interview about leaving abuse with Kate Heaton. I'm doing this intentionally because attention to our nervous system and a sense of "safety" is what we need to feel okay to explore leaving or even listening to others' stories.
To understand more about this concept I've collected a few podcasts and videos below.
Here's a related episode I recorded for Audacious Mamas

After recording my episode above, I listened to an interview with Emily Fletcher, meditation expert, and she hits all the points and more. Mainly that you cannot expect to jump from anxiety, overwhelm, and depression to meditation. There's an in-between state of calming your system that's essential.

I interviewed Katrina Lillian Sorrentino. She shares her story of being sucked into an emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship with a man who may be a narcissist, sociopath, or something else. She's not sure, but he was toxic, deceptive, abusive, and controlling.
Her relationship trauma was so intense and extreme that she created a documentary about the experience and is now building an intentional community to support others involved in hidden abuse, the psychological impact, and ways to heal and get help.
Mentioned in this episode * Opening up to life after divorce * Disney princess syndrome warps what's acceptable * Being Vulnerable and in transition and how you can be targeted * Confusion and bliss intermixed with boundary crossing, psychological abuse, and trauma bonding creates a toxic cocktail of addiction to the person and the situation * Connecting with people online who dated or were also targeted by her ex * Being aware online and understanding that hashtags and abuse accounts can have predators * Her documentary as therapy to connect with others and heal * How she's using this experience moving forward in stories for TV/Film and as an activist * The fear that held her back from asking questions that would've blown all of it wide open * Her best friend's findings and how that led to her leaving * Why she went back * How her criteria for "romantic" has changed dramatically * How she's healing and dating now

In this solo episode, I share some of my favorite authors, spiritual healers, Doctors, and thought leaders. All of these people have helped me reframe my thoughts and pull myself out of darkness. Pouring positive ideas, thoughts, stories, etc., into our minds via podcasts, audiobooks, videos, and music, is healing, induces hope, and catalyzes a plan to exit situations that deplete, depress, and paralyze us.

Lots of Love,
I think you probably may know or have heard of the Grey Rock method by now. If so, it's worth listening as I share one character you can channel if you're not quite sure what Grey Rock looks like in practice.
Mainly, it's about holding your power. Staying grounded, calm, neutral, and I think immovable or unimpressed and non-reactive.
One thought to keep in mind is simply this, do NOT take the bait!
The idea is that the toxic and unreasonable person you're dealing with enjoys getting a rise out of you. So don't give energy or reaction to elicit more from them.
Keep conversations short, only share what they "need to know." Don't give any extra information and remain unemotional in your communication. Be intentionally dull.
Here's a longer article from Medical News Today.

Gaslighting is a term that comes up a lot when dealing with personality disorders, i.e., narcissists, sociopaths, psychopaths. But truthfully, anyone is capable of this behavior, and it can even pop up as a way to cover up for narcissists and protect their reputation. You may find yourself denying reality to your family or community if you're in one of these relationships.
In this brief definition episode, I cover what it is and offer concrete examples that may appear in toxic and controlling relationships. I've created a handful of shorter episodes with definitions for anyone new to this topic and confused by unfamiliar terms.

I interviewed Judy Giovangelo, energy worker, healer, artist, and founder of Ben Speaks, her non-profit raising awareness for highly sensitive kids who are at risk for self-harm and suicide. Judy lost her son Ben to suicide when he was just 18. She and Ben made heroic progress over his 18 years and learned ways for him to cope with all the energy and emotions he absorbed like a sponge. Her mission is to expand on that work, to be a buoy for families and siblings impacted by and managing a mental illness. She works with kids to help them manage their energy and sensitivity to others, equips them with powerful tools to navigate life and relationships in a more grounded peaceful way. Judy also works with parents who’ve experienced loss as a grief counselor. After what we’ve been through this year, struggling to stay mentally healthy, I’m happy to share her wisdom and will do what I can to give this as much exposure as I can. 💛 Please follow Judy Ben Speaks for more information on programs and support for kids and families.

Mother's Day is a tricky time of the year. We take time time to reflect on our mother-daughter relationships. And it's also a time to celebrate the love of all mothers in the world. This year, Caroline Nadine Helsing can celebrate by knowing her book about her mom came to life. She captured the essence of her mom by writing a memoir, a beautiful tribute to her mother's unapologetic love for glamour and fabulousness in all things.
Many moms I know are deep in grief this time of year because they lost a child, a mother, a mother figure, an unborn child. There's so much attached to this holiday, so I wanted to share your thoughts along with my interview with Caroline.
I asked you to leave a message about motherhood, your mom, what you've learned as a mother, what your mom taught you, and anything you want to throw in about this past year and you did! Thank you!!
I have a handful of lovely mamas who contributed their thoughts, and I'm including them below.
Also, the mic is open on both TheAudaciouslife.com and AudciousMamas.com - it's the little blue mic at the bottom right. If you want to share your thoughts, ideas, or anything you want the world to know about mom life, please do!

We, as women, are a little too good at putting ourselves last. We come to this naturally through family and societal, patriarchal influence.
But we can shift out of it. And we need to!!
Now more so than ever, we're called to pay attention to the inner promptings to save ourselves from burnout, bitterness, severe mental health, and physical issues such as adrenal fatigue, auto-immune, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and suicide.
Taking time to connect to ourselves and our deepest desires, yearnings, needs is essential.
I know, I know, HOW am I going to do that? You're asking.
Start small. The littlest moments add up, and it will and can shift your perspective from dark hopelessness to lightness and a sense of hope.
Give yourself the respect to honor these God-given desires.
Whatever you need is fuel for the soul and quite literally THE thing that can get you through all tough times.
We've faced a collective trauma over this last year, and the impact is being felt profoundly. These intense feelings weigh many of us down, and it's confusing as it's happening as things appear to be opening up. Why are we feeling so dark?
Maybe it's a thirst for MORE.
MORE time for you. MORE peace. MORE space. MORE beauty.
MORE time to sort through what lights you up and makes you feel joy and enthusiasm for life.
Mother's Day is coming up, and we, as mothers and caregivers we have had to bear the weight of a nation. We carried the work of home, school, work work, and it was expected often without being acknowledged just how critical this role was and is.
Give yourself a MASSIVE pat on the back for surviving.
Give yourself a HUG for getting through so much chaos and non-stop upheaval.
Give yourself some REST.
I had a 2017 crash and burn. I revisited that time with fresh eyes and shared here what I learned about self-care, time alone, breaking away to get a change of scenery, and shift my energy.
I'm so proud of all the women I know who've been through hell and back and are still standing. That's you, sister!!
You are in my thoughts and prayers for a significant turnaround and blessings to be showered upon you. :-)
All my Love,
Parenting during the pandemic has been a challenge far beyond mask-wearing, sanitizing, or concern over COVID-19. Being in lockdown and isolated with schools mostly shut down or running at half the usual staff and kids has shifted our worlds completely. Women left the workforce in droves, 2.3 Million of us: an all-time low, the lowest since 1988.
"Children involved in the research cited family tensions and financial concerns as well as feeling isolated from friends and fear about the virus for causing their distress." BBC News
Parents are struggling with tight finances, high stress, and a bunch of moody kids who haven't been able to socialize, move around on their own, play sports, or any activities that gave them joy.
Add to the long days stuck in front of a computer expected to do work and hang out on zoom, and you've got a recipe for a significant mental health issue.
According to parentguidance.org, 50% of parents worry that their child is struggling, but they don't know what to do. And 32% feel their child is unhappy.
On top of this is the parental mental health impacting the way families are managing children's issues. According to Harvard Business Review, nearly 42% of employees report a decline in mental health since the pandemic began. So of those parents still working, nearly half say their mental health is slipping.
Pandemic has made abuse 'invisible' For some children, the pandemic has had dire consequences with the numbers being harmed and abused on the rise.
Between April and September, there were 285 reports by councils of child deaths and incidents of serious harm, which includes child sexual exploitation. This was a rise of more than a quarter in the same period the year before.
He believes this is misguided and instead growing up in a world where even "playing with your friends is illegal" threatens to cause long-lasting damage to many. "I don't think it is an exaggeration to say children and their families have been abandoned." [The BBC: https://www.bbc.com/news/health-5586384]

We've never before been in a time like this. Life is a giant rollercoaster, and events are intense and changing rapidly. The mental and emotional toll of all of it has put us in a place we've never experienced before.
Never before have I seen the need to be hyper-aware of my mindset, energy, consciousness. And when I fail to stay conscious, I slip into a dark place. I'm emerging from a dark place with optimism sharing my thoughts on why all of us need to be aware of our energy and consciousness. I'll be spending more time covering this on the podcast.
Also, my thoughts supporting women and moms focused on expanding our economic freedom via entrepreneurial pursuits.
So if you have a side hustle in mind or are keen to build, start, or grow your business, stay tuned. I have some fantastic interviews set up with women who offer value in getting your business set up and structured correctly for efficiency, simplicity, and the least amount of effort. Simplify, simplify!! That's my new motto and how we can work together, collaborate, and support other women to get ahead together as a community.

In September of 2020, a reported 865K women left the workforce in the US. Many of these women are caregivers and moms who felt they had no choice but to step away from work to keep their children's education on track and keep their family intact. In this episode, I share some stats, helpful resources I've found for you to gain support, learn skills, and gain hope for starting over with the flexibility to care for yourself and your family.
The pressure on parents is off the charts right now, but the burden on women is far more significant as we fill the role of primary caregiver and often earn less than our male partners. America was not, is not, prepared to support working parents. We cannot send our children to school for a full day, and many child care centers have reduced service or shut down completely. And given the pandemic's precautions, it's that much more difficult and expensive to hire a qualified, healthy caregiver, babysitter, or nanny to support us at home.

Karmic Debt and Instant Karma With all that's swirling in the world around us, it's easy to wonder how people can get away with evil and horrible things and come out seemingly smelling like a rose. Or at the least retaining their position, their wealth, etc. with seemingly little impact.
If Karma exists, why is it that some get away with these things, yet you cut the line in the grocery store and instantly feel the impact of your actions?
I've been wondering about this too!
Today I share what I discovered while researching angel numbers and Karma.
Covered in this episode - Karma
- Angel numbers
- Karmic debt
- Akashic records
- Instant Karma
- Your highest self
- Stepping away to ground before reacting
- Setting intentions
- Segment intending
- Pulling it all together to leverage instant Karma for your benefit
Some of this may be esoteric but keep an open mind and humor me while you consider some of these ideas. They can be incredibly helpful if you're stuck in a negative cycle of feeling like life is hopeless and nothing matters.

A few weeks ago, I was struck by an SUV while cycling. Ouch! After 33 years of riding my bike on the road, this was my first accident. But...I'm Alive. What happened that day was a wake-up call and an epiphany.
Apart from being lucky for having survived that scary as hell situation, I thought I'd share my thoughts about how it impacted me on a visceral level. It made me rethink the past year and where I am on my growth journey. And the epiphany I had made me think of you and want to share my thoughts with you as you consider your growth and healing.
I hope there's a nugget or two here to consider in terms of triggers, boundaries, and not allowing anyone to chip away at your self-esteem routinely regardless of their position.
As mentioned in this episode, I'm putting together an online community and would love your feedback. If you have a moment to weigh in on the survey, please do! I appreciate your insights.

An empath is someone who's highly sensitive and picks up on the energy of others. Many say they can "feel others pain." It's not an exaggeration, and if this is you, you may not have heard the term before, but you'll know right away if it fits.
You may be the person who dreads parties and crowds because they can make you feel heavy, sick, and possibly like you're taking on other people's problems.
You like people, but you prefer the company of those you know well, and you can gauge and predict what your time spent with them.
With all of the above being true, you're also more susceptible to negatively respond to what's in the airwaves, the news, and your surroundings. You're a barometer of sorts and able to read a room, people's moods, etc. You detect these things on a visceral level and feel them deeply.
Sometimes you need to get away, find some solo time, a distraction to take you away from all those feelings of looming anxiety. Maybe you do yoga, write in your journal, go for a walk, spend time with pets, get lost in an art project, go for a long run or bike. Everyone is different.
This episode is about some basics that will allow you to stay grounded, help with the intensity of loved ones or children. Some of this may be new to you, some of it may sound familiar or even common sense. But as an empath who's struggled with anxiety and depression, early on in life I recall saying, "It's like I have magnets in my pockets for troubled people." And it took me until my 40's to truly understand how my wiring impacted my energy and outlook.
I hope there's something in this episode that's helpful to where you are at the moment. There's much more to this topic. We could expand exponentially.
The main thing is that YOU must take care of YOUR ENERGY and everything will begin to feel better for you. And that's what we want! :-) xoxo
Sending lots of Love and light to you!!

All of us have been through so much these last few months with quarantine life, protests, racial inequality, and all the powerful feelings behind centuries of injustice coming to the fore. Some of us can urge you to "be positive" or "adopt a positive mindset" but I know it's not that simple.
When things have been truly challenging in my life those phrases have felt feel empty or even triggering more self-criticism.
Maybe you've had some of the following thoughts.
"Why can't I just be positive?"
"How come my mind always goes back to all the possible the negative outcomes??"
"I've been saying these positive affirmations for weeks but I just don't believe them!!"
"I suck at this. Eff those spirit junkies, they can choke on their positivity!!"
I get it.
And I know many of you are in that space where it feels dark, borderline hopeless, and all this positive talk is like putting lipstick on a pig.
So, with that in mind, I'm sharing the concept of Neutral Thinking.
In this episode, I share what it means and a bit about Trevor Moawad, Mental Conditioning expert, and top coach to pro elite athletes. In 2017 Trevor was named the “Sports World's Best Brain Trainer” by Sports Illustrated.
This guy knows what he's talking about. He's done the research, the experimentation, and has solid examples of why this works.
I recently read Trevor's new book "It Takes What It Takes" and I'm reviewing his book along with two amazing interviews you'll appreciate from the Ed Mylett Show and Impact Theory - both on YouTube.
BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS
#1- NEGATIVE thoughts are 4-7Xs more powerful than positive thoughts.
#2- NEGATIVE thoughts SPOKEN are 40-70Xs more powerful and more likely to come to fruition.
#3- Simply AVOIDING voicing or speaking negatively can do you a world of good even if you're not speaking positively.
Let me restate that last one.
Simply AVOIDING voicing or speaking negatively can do you a world of good even if you're NOT speaking positively.
Mic drop.
This is a short episode. So you'll consider this without me droning on and maybe you'll be inspired to adopt this strategy or get his book to learn more.
Either way, I hope you find something helpful here. This concept has truly helped me stay out of the mental muck.
Enjoy!

Man, we've been through a ton these last few months. I know it's been intense, hard to predict what's next, and challenging to stay positive even for those who are generally pretty upbeat.
The quarantine, work from home, homeschooling, mask-wearing, and social distancing, along with the racism we're working through as a nation has impacted me for sure.
So I'm sharing what's been going on in my world and what I plan to do with the podcast and other aspects of my life as a result of the impact of COVID and all that's come along with it.
And I'm checking in to see how you're doing too. I'd love to hear from you!

Black Lives Matter and George Floyd was a human treated like an animal.
The site identifies what 8 things that can be done to help your city's police department to be safe and decrease violence by 72%.
If this resonates and you're interested in making a difference with racism and unnecessary police brutality check out https://8cantwait.org/
I intentionally avoid local news coverage and do my best to have a lighter diet of news each day. Sothis NY Times mini-documentary, 8 Minutes and 47 Seconds is about what happened to George Floyd. It's well-produced and gave me a much better sense of exactly what happened and why the 8 Can't Wait site is so important.
Will it end racism? No.
But it will make a tangible difference in the lives of all citizens but especially the most vulnerable, people of color. Please watch.

Self-mastery during the Corona Virus and Social Distancing. How to find ways to thrive during times of isolation and disconnection. How to take advantage of going inward and finding what lights a spark and gives you hope for a better tomorrow.
Last week was Mental Health Awareness week. We may think we know what someone who's suffering looks like. Do you? Maybe you have the image of someone unbathed with their head down, choosing not to join in at public gatherings. But it's not that simple.
In this episode, we have DeAnn Wandler-Vukovich a USMC veteran, with an accomplished career in higher education, including multiple wellness certifications. She's the picture of health and success but also a survivor of multiple suicide attempts who is now a suicide prevention advocate, speaker, and coach.
DeAnn shares her story. What led her to consider suicide and eventually follow through and attempt to take her life?
How do we help if we suspect someone we love is on a slippery path or if we're not sure we can go on?

So if you need a sympathetic ear, please do call the hotline for NAMI.org or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to connect with another human being who will listen.
Sometimes we struggle, and there's no one there.
We may have lots of "friends" on social media, but when it comes right down to it often, there's no one to turn to and feel safe sharing scary thoughts. This is why it makes sense to reach out anonymously to get support without judgment. Whatever feels right for you and will give you comfort to inch you toward a better place! xoxo
Please know above all else that I made this episode because I have TRULY BEEN THERE. And quite a few times. The struggle is REAL, and it's no joke. Does a Chaotic Childhood Result in a Chaotic Unsuccessful Adult Life?
It's a great question. I'm sure most of us would respond with a resounding, "Yes!"
It's refreshing when we find evidence against this assumption.
Enter Author and successful executive Hope Mueller. Hope shares her early experience of mostly raising herself as a child in a free wheeling commune where sexual freedom, drugs, and no real sense of limitation or structure were to be found.
Hope's story is shared through her new book, "Hopey: from Commune to corner office." Here you'll understand how she made the leap from chaos into the structure of a corporate business environment. She's a mom of four in a healthy marriage and seems happy and well adjusted.
If you're feeling like you can only control so many aspects of your life or the lives of your children and sometimes this realization is sobering if not a bit depressing, you need to hear this interview.
What if those same out of control things are exactly what will create resilience and a unique perspective, perhaps even a drive to achieve or create a life vastly different the one they were raised in?

Welcome to Season 4 of the Audacious Life Podcast!
I hope you're well! I'm happy to be back with this short episode to update you on the summer break, what's been happening, and the direction I'm taking the podcast.
The title of this episode is "Pause. Rest Before You Start Again." I chose this title because I see in myself and so many of the women in my life and work that we don't excuse ourselves to take a break from something when we're overwhelmed, feeling blue, under-the-weather, or simply burned out from all the plates we have spinning.
I took a much-needed break from my two podcasts in August. It was not planned but it gave me room to breathe, focus on what needed my attention, and allowed me space to reconsider how I've been approaching my podcasts. The good the bad and the ugly. In spite of letting down listeners, I'm happy I did it. I needed the clarity it brought and the time to take care of some challenges.
In short, here's what I learned. No one is going to grant you permission to hop off the hamster wheel of life. And that's good news, it means you created it, you're in charge and you get to find the things that you can intentionally pause so you can regroup when necessary.
Maybe it's not your work or the things you do around the house. Maybe it's the extra stuff that used to fill you up but now seems like drudgery or work. If you used to garden because it was fun and made you happy but now you're helping out with the town's flower beds and it's become too much. STOP. PAUSE. RETHINK.
If it's optional and it's no longer bringing you joy maybe it's time to reflect on where best to spend your time. It doesn't mean you have to quit but maybe there's a less time-consuming approach you can take so it feels good again.
In this episode, I announce one big decision I made about my podcasts. I'm optimistic and excited about it. I don't think I would've arrived at this decision without the time off.
I'd love to hear about you. Have you taken an intentional break from something in your life to rest, gain clarity, and move forward? How did it work out for you?
Shoot me your story stephanir@gmail.com - I'd love to hear from you!
Have a great day!

Power of Forgiveness - Releasing Dark Energy to Heal Releasing negative thoughts, anger, and bitterness to heal faster I was compelled to share this message today ahead of the interviews I have scheduled. It was a powerful tap on the shoulder from God, the Universe, higher power, whatever name you have for that force. It began by listening to a video on youTube.
I dropped everything to share this one because I believe it's the key to moving forward and breaking cycles of dysfunction and abuse.
It's far too easy to stay in rumination mode trying to make sense of why things are the way they are or why they have unfolded as they have. But when we do this we're keeping ourselves stuck in the same gear, the same wavelength, planted there feeding the negative energy, and it's like waving a flag asking for more of the same. No bueno!!
If we want to move out of this negative space and free ourselves from the muck, we can release the anger, the bitterness, and all sense of victim thinking and trade it for more positive thoughts that are on the other side of the spectrum.
Focus on allowing forgiveness and gratitude to well up. Search for things to be grateful for, things of any size. Start super small if it's easier. A smile from a stranger, a positive interaction with customer service that could've been difficult.
All these tiny choices to focus on and recognized the positive add up to fuel our hope, faith, and optimism and result in more Love, joy, and bring us out of a dark place and into light.

See the original video by Aluna Ash that inspired this episode. It might be a little much for some of you. If it's too odd, or doesn't resonate, you can just skip it. But it's an excellent explanation about karmic entanglements, how to get out by using opposing forces. So if you're open to it, please do listen. Donna is a bright light and shows us that there are many lives and chapters to be lived after leaving an abusive situation. As she shares in this episode, Donna has made her way out the other side of multiple abusive relationships always with more resilience, a fresh perspective, and never allowing herself to settle into a "less than" or undeserving mindset.
Her life serves as an example of what's possible for all of us if we keep dreaming and fall into the stuck zone spending too much time around people who pull us down. After 40 years of writing and storytelling, Donna's first published book, With The Courage Of A Mouse, is out and enjoying positive acclaim. She did it and there will be more books to come.
As the youngest child in a large family, Donna felt lost in the crowd. She entertained herself by making up stories and friends to play with. By age 5, Donna had taught herself to read, and that began her imaginative journey to dreamy castles with princes and fairy godmothers. Donna is a grandmother, random fact-finder, and encourager. And yes, she believes she's a superhero. She resides in California with her family and four cats.
Key points in this episode: * Everyone has it within them to find their superpower. * Bravery vs. Courage. What's the difference and how Donna's perspective on this relates to the title of her book. * Do not compare yourself to other people. Do not discount the fact that you made an effort to move forward today. Your consistent effort daily is something to celebrate in itself.
Mother's Day thoughts...
Donna mentions celebrating single mothers and acknowledging difficult circumstances that are very real and how single moms are sacrificing for their children.

I've struggled with disconnection and isolation myself and I see so many people around me in the same boat. I'm so proud of this interview with Leah Carey, Host of Good Girls Talk About Sex. She's an incredibly articulate and sensitive interviewer who gives women the opportunity to share their intimate thoughts and experiences related to sex. Her show is a guilty pleasure and a window into women's minds and sexual behavior.
We discuss coming of age in an emotionally abusive relationship and how that impacted Carey's perspective on sex, her sexual choices, and shut her down from the experience of pleasure and voicing her desires. On the upside she's made this her career now and is sex positive - emphasizing communication for partners so everyone expresses their needs, has them met, and enjoys sex - that's the goal anyway.

The loss of a loved one may be one of the hardest challenges that many of us face.
When we lose a spouse, sibling, parent, or friend, our grief can be particularly intense, with emotions ranging from sadness to anger to even feeling depressed.
There is no right or wrong way to grieve, but there is a way to aid one's healing by shifting the way you look at grief and loss, to help you honor the memory of your loved one, find new meaning, and also move on with your life.
Misty Thompson’s passion is to guide those who need support with their daily struggles. Misty uses her life experiences, her intuition, and the assistance of her spiritual team to guide her clients to the life that they will begin to believe and know is gratifying, instead of overwhelming.
Misty’s journey began in 1993 when the situation surrounding her sister’s death woke Misty up to her spiritual gifts. She began to realize that she was empathic as she was able to take on the emotions of others and able to connect to those who have transitioned. Misty chose to suppress those gifts until 2014 when connection to her spiritual team began to emerge.
Misty opened her business, Mystified Enlightenment, in February 2016 and has helped numerous people with the same concerns many of you are experiencing. Life on this earth is truly short, and it is time that you follow your inner guidance, along with your spiritual team, to be your true self and enjoy who you are meant to be. Misty would love to help you on your journey.
Misty is married, has four children, and four grandchildren and lives in Thatcher, Arizona.

I've decided not to let perfection stop me from recording and sharing episodes. So this one starts with a brisk walk where I'm sharing my awareness of how Karma is working in my life to teach me what I need to learn. And I'm seeing patterns that are so clear it's a bit shocking.
If the walking and talking drives you nuts, just listen to the last 17 minutes where I'm inside sharing the 12 laws of Karma - yeah, there are 12! I did NOT know this when I started recording but I share each of the 12 laws and how they've impacted my life. It's all my own spin, so feel free to hit me up with an email or message if you think I'm off. I'm totally okay with that.
Have you experienced Karmic law in action?

Tracy Gromen is a Self Mastery Coach and Healer. She's a happily married mom of 3 boys and in this episode, we were originally going to talk about addressing anxiety but as our conversation unfolded prior to recording it became clear that we needed to share what she had been through in her personal life with her family and in-laws.
Tracy shares how before the holidays she decided not to participate in the tension-filled fake smiling Christmas celebration with her in-laws. She has amazing energy and conviction about what she'll allow in her life and what she will not. It's taken her years to get here but she still had to take a scary leap into a confrontation.
She did the tough work that most of us only dream of doing. She found a way to assert herself with love, honesty, and courage to ask her in-laws to consider working toward making their interaction more authentic and open-hearted and leave the gossip and manipulation behind.
In this episode, she shares her perspective * The family has hard conversations - they don't just sweep things under the carpet. * Standing in sovereignty - what does this mean to you? * How Tracy recovered from an exhausted burnout and relied on intuition to move forward in her personal life and business * Strengthening her partnership with her husband * How to make our way to a breakthrough and leave martydom behind through self-awareness * How she and her son got off her $400 medications for anxiety * How her husband supported her efforts to get well by taking care of herself, listening to her intuitive voice. * How she forgave people and circumstances in her life that held massive amounts of abuse. * Learning to say, "No." as Captain Dependable. * Getting to a place to feeling safe and stopping outside validation. * Admitting she took abuse from her childhood and it became overprotective helicopter parenting. * Looking back at her past and learning how not to repeat it. * Raising kids who set boundaries, have empathy, and are tuned in. * EFT for "on the fly emotional release" ...instead of chocolate. :-)
TRACY'S OFFERINGS Massive support for women on the self-awareness journey. Nutrition, virtual fitness, mindset coaching.

The title for this podcast is out there, I know! But for a long time, I've been sensitive to the moon and lunar events but never gave it too much thought until the last few years. I joke with my daughters that I'm Luney Tunes - my spin on being tuned into the lunar changes.
I planned to have a regular episode but the way that this week unfolded with bizarre events and emotional upheaval among the friends I know, I felt called to share some of this for those of you experiencing deep emotional heaviness, headaches, exhaustion, sleeplessness, rashes, and questioning things on a level you may never have before.
The pattern I'm seeing in my friends and withing my spiritual circle is profound. I'm grateful that I have a way to explain what I'm feeling and what they're going through. One of my friends who's tuned in but not in this circle happened upon a youTube video that touched on this and helped her feel better about all of it.
I don't typically push my stuff on friends, I prefer them to find it on their own. We may discuss things at a surface level but I don't use language that might confuse them or make them skeptical and there's a lot of lingo that's sort of bizarre if you're new to it. I get that it can be offputting and alienating.
That said, I think it's worth sharing at a higher surface level an explanation of some of what you may be going through with the recent Wolf Moon and the upcoming Blood Moon as they truly do impact our physiology and our spirit.
So, here's late night, no frills, unedited episode with just me sharing some of what's transpired this week. Maybe you can relate. My hope is that this reaches you and offers a bit of reassurance if you've been feeling out of it or just plain off and can't pinpoint why.

In this solo episode, Steph shares the struggle of listening to and honoring our inner voice. The confusion that can arise when we want to do what the voice is telling us to do but we're used to checking in with family, friends, a spouse, co-workers.
She discusses our early upbringing and how that conditions us to relate to others and make decisions, seek approval, and question ourselves in spite of a deep conviction. How can we shift away from that to live in integrity and put our desires first instead of last? How can we do so without suffering the guilt-mongering from family and all the people we normally check in with?
This is the beginning of a series of interview with guests who learned to listen to their intuition, practiced it, grew it, and created amazing circumstances that led to a better, happier, more abundant life.

Brenda Adelman returns with the second in her 2-part series. In part-1 we learned the unthinkable; her father killed Brenda's mother, and then he quickly moved in with and married her mother's sister.
Most of us would be paralyzed and curled in fetal position unsure of what to do after something so life-altering. It shook Brenda to her core and impacted her profoundly, but she came out of the darkness when she dared to share her story publicly.
In this episode, Brenda details how she was able to share her story, what she'd do differently, and what happened as a result of her finding the courage to do so.
If something BIG or profoundly transformational has happened to you and you've thought of sharing your story, she has tips about how to get started.
As she says, "There are skills to learn, rewrites to be done. It's not so sexy." But it can make a difference in the way the story impacts audiences and how YOU feel good about sharing it. She discusses how to gauge feelings to know whether you're ready to share or not or to write as a form of cathartic healing.

It's been a doozy of a year for many of us. And now we're supposed to dust ourselves off and create shiny new goals for 2019 right? Ugh.
Everywhere we look it's about goal planning for the year and I think it's enough to send many of us running for the couch hiding under a blanket or finding other ways to avoid and tune out.
If that's you or if you just want an alternate way to get what you want this year, check it out.
Here I share how I broke out the paper and wrote down what I wanted to feel and see in the year ahead for 2018 and even created a vision board. These were not goals, they were dreams and ideas of things I want to enter my life.
Tune in to hear how that turned out for me and what I'm doing for 2019. Hint: it's mostly surprisingly GOOD. So definitely check it out and please share with friends or anyone you know who needs a little inspiration or is feeling stuck right now.

How to Forgive the Impossible with Brenda Adelman
Brenda Adelman came by the title "The Queen of Forgiveness" under tragic circumstances. The father she adored killed her mother and then later...married her aunt. You read that right. Not only did her kill her mother but he married her sister.
I can't fathom it. The pain, sorrow, and confusion must have been immense. Yet somehow, after some time, Brenda was able to forgive her father and move forward.
She shares all that she went through to be able to accept what happened and honestly feel forgiveness in her heart. If you're feeling heavy and dragged down from someone who wronged you, please listen to this episode.

This podcast is part 1 of a 2 part series. Stay tuned for part 2 to learn how to tell your story to heal and to help others.

Protection from Holiday Hijackals with Dr. Roberta Shaler
Dr. Rhoberta Shaler knows how to handle people who hijack your energy and rob you of some of the best moments of your life. They can pop up in any area; family members, romantic partners, co-workers, neighbors, store clerks, you name it.
These hijackals are at least consistent. Thankfully! That's why this episode is a must listen if you're heading home for the holidays and dreading Aunt Bea, your in-laws, your older sister, your dad, or anyone else who always seems to push your buttons and bring you down.
Dr. Shaler has a bunch of free content and a low-cost group coaching program through Patreon that can help you if you need some guidance navigating the minefield of the hijackal.

I recorded this episode just before Thanksgiving, and it was powerful. If you stay 'to the end you'll hear me cry. Yep, it's one of those episodes! April Giaque (pronounced "juke") is a beacon of light. A true survivor and thriver with an uncanny ability to find the silver linings and "pinpoints of light" in the darkness. Her interview is the perfect one to listen to if you're feeling down, tested beyond belief, left behind, lost, and just plain ungrateful or bitter.
Raised in the LDS church in Utah, she's an author, speaker, and life coach. April shares her experience as a young mother of five children and wife to a husband with multiple mental health challenges. From the chaos raising her first five children to the next chapter's turnaround story with a new husband and giving birth to four more children who each brought new lessons and challenges.
This is a story of turning multiple and seemingly endless tests into triumph. You'll hear her story firsthand but the highlights include, domestic abuse, mental illness, substance abuse, autism, hearing impairment, divorce, career development, finding new love, more babies, and her books to inspire you to be the light.
Mentioned in this episode...
Holy cow! This was a FUN interview considering it was mostly about divorce. But I think that has to do with the energy and sparkle of my guest Jennifer Hurvitz. She's an author, speaker, podcast host, blogger, screenwriter, and relationship coach. Not necessarily in that order!
And, she's the second Audacious Single Mama I'm spotlighting in my single mom series. She left her marriage and found a way to venture out on her own creating a business around the positive aspects of divorce...big kudos to her because the life she has now sounds pretty amazing.
This episode is candid, fun, and definitely not dark. It's more of a conversation than an interview. So tune in to hear some insights from both of us as we share what we learned going through a divorce and perspective we gained on the other side. Neither of us would go back, but the grass isn't always greener. Often it takes being OUT to see your part in how things went wrong and what you could have done to steer things in a better direction.
But before you get your dander up with that last comment, it's only for folks listening who have marriages or relationships free from abuse of any kind. You'll see that Jen holds no illusions and she knows that sometimes it's NOT possible to turn things around. Often leaving IS the best option.
So if you're hanging out on the fence in the middle and there's something redeeming at the heart of your relationship, this episode could be what you need to find clarity.
Listen and reach out if you feel compelled. I'd love to know what you think!

This episode is about Angel Numbers, numeric sequences and how they can help guide you through times of confusion, loneliness, darkness, and fear. And how they act as a nudge or a wink from the Universe.
Are they a substitute for prayer or your usual spiritual practice? Nope.
I see them as a way to add hope to your life, build faith in the direction you're going, and move you closer to God (the Universe) and go deeper with your spiritual practice.
If you're seeing 111, 1111, 444, 333, 222, 1212, and other combinations it usually means you're already aware spiritually or you're awakening and becoming more aware. You're noticing these numbers, that in itself shows you're awake.

Set some goals and intentions and "test" whether manifesting and belief, maintaining a positive "higher vibration" actually help open things up and create a better life experience for you.
Love and humor are the highest vibrations.
Anger, hatred, and fear are lower vibrations.
Avoiding gossip, a steady stream of dark news and conversation around doom and gloom, and keeping focused on the good things that are happening in your life (however small) can help you and can also have a wider positive ripple effect.

This is the first crossover episode from the Audacious Mamas show for mompreneurs. I felt this information was both inspiring and practical for single mamas and women starting over.
April is one of those people you meet and never forget. Heck, I never met her and I still never forgot her. She was in a paid group with me and her energy, drive, and success made an indelible mark. I can still see her sipping a Margarita in the water at some far-flung tropical beach sharing about the affiliate income she made that month - and she was NEW to affiliate marketing!!
Yep. So she's got "it" that ability to spot a money opportunity a mile away and see it through to fruition.
She's the perfect single mama entrepreneur to kick off my series on inspiring single mompreneurs! Yes, that could be YOU if you're starting over and looking for a way to close the gap at the end of the month when it's time to pay the bills.
We cover so much ground here that I had to list it out.
So here are the highlights:
How to monetize your life effortlessly
Setting up referral partnerships
Choosing affiliate products that feel right
How to stay focused on your goals and repel shiny objects
Simplifying to success
Living with a housemate and saving for a home
raising a "man of the house"
homeschooling and how she made it work
college vs. the entrepreneurial approach to life
How many groups to join on FB and her strategy for leveraging them
How many email lists and "gurus" to follow

In this episode, I'm flying solo sharing some recurring themes of struggle and deep personal growth. The things that feel uncomfortable make us question ourselves, feel stuck, and create resistance toward the goals that carry the most meaning in our lives regardless of how big or small.
I share some thoughts and readings from Alana Fairchild's Sacred Rebels Guidebook, and it's accompanying oracle card deck. Yeah, it sounds out there, but the book is beautiful as are the illustrations and the meaning behind each card.
If you're feeling stuck at times and wondering how to move forward with something or just unsure in general and looking for guidance, these cards are a gentle push in a better direction. I'm always moved by what they reveal to me and how the messages seem to be so on target and resonate with where I'm at in my life.

Listen to your intuition. Believe in the ideas and the sense of things you have deeply embedded in your heart and mind. Focus on the optimistic positive outcomes in spite of what seems present. You will begin to see changes and your expected results.
Here Steph shares where she's heading with the two podcasts, what's around the corner, and a powerful message of hope that arose from a distant bleak memory of leading a double life and living in fear.
A favorite relevant passage from a special book by Ernest Holmes, The Thing Called You.
"It is certain that you must fast from fear if you wish to establish faith. You must fast from confusion if you hope to enter into traquility. It matters not if your transitions from the negative into the affirmative seems slow, if the ascent from your valley of negation to the mountain top of realization seems difficult. Each step will bring you nearer the summit."

Byron Morrison is a compassionate author and lifestyle coach with a mission to give women who've put themselves last encouragement and a path to shift their habits as well as their self-perceptions.
He was a guest on my other Podcast for Mompreneurs, The Audacious Mamas Show. When I interviewed Byron then, he had recently opened an online group for women looking to 'Build a Better You' based on his lifestyle, mindset, nutrition, and exercise book.
Soon Byron learned that some of these women shared their experience as survivors of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. It's a delicate subject, and he's quite protective so Byron and I connected to discuss how he could connect with The Audacious Life audience to support listeners struggling with weight, depression, vitality, and hope. Byron struggled with weight and depression himself before he had a wake-up call with his father's health and realized he was on the same path. His goal is to help women break free of old patterns, learn new habits, work on their mindset, to create happier healthier lives.

There's a lot brewing in the United States right now related to power and abuse. And I'm encouraged by the courageous women who've stepped forward, stood their ground, and shined a spotlight on this problem.
I plan to cover that topic which effects my life, my past, and it's even a thread in my mother's journey. She has since passed, but I remember her battle well. So much so that the actions that have been taken to penalize the accused have been affirming and healing for me.
In Season 2 of The Audacious Life, I'll have new guest experts, returning survivors who are more candid than ever, and new survivors sharing their stories to help heal others, and I hope that they'll experience a catharsis by releasing the pent up fear, guilt, and shame.
My year off has given me much more perspective, and I see that my mission as a mom in business supporting other mompreneurs dovetails nicely with helping women who are contemplating leaving an abusive or toxic relationship.
Everyone talks about the importance of "having a plan," and the financial element is key to your successful survival on the other side. I'll be putting together experts and programs specifically focused on helping you create more income in your life through the creation of a side hustle or amping up your current situation at work.
If a side hustle or business idea has you up at night or excited during your commute and you see your life has far more potential than anyone around you ever imagined, than I invite you to join my closed Facebook group for Audacious Mamas Thriving in Business. There you'll connect with other women on your path and you'll learn tips to help promote your business, product, or services in a safe environment that's high vibe and full of warmth and genuine support.

Amy is trained as a collaborative attorney and mediator, and is deeply committed to helping clients resolve their family law disputes mindfully, creatively and with minimal court involvement. Amy attended Wesleyan University and Lesley University as an undergraduate, obtained her master’s degree in music therapy from New York University, and earned her J.D. as an Edward F. Q. What are some red flags women and girls should be aware of when dating?
Q. How can women minimize the psychological grip that their abusers have on them even after leaving?
One thing that we have noticed in the abuse support groups I’m involved in is that these men use the same tactics and some of the phrases are identical. Many have joked that it’s as if they’ve gone to a training somewhere.
Q. What are your thoughts on this (use of the same tactics)?
Q. What can mothers do to mitigate the impact of an abusive father on his children.
“Sarah” shares her dramatic story of fleeing her home with two small children. Listen as she explains how she gained support of friends and family and began her journey toward a new found clarity and peace.
