We aim to equip Christians in churches, schools, businesses and other organisations across South Africa with the tools, resources and interventions that will enable them to be effective agents of redemption at work and in public life.
Boshoff Grobler shares his view on work as a calling. Through his personal examples challenges us to live our faith there where we find ourselves. He cites Ephesians 4 as a foundation for his perspective.
his talk was given at an early morning TGIF session in Craighall Park, including all the background sounds that are a natural part of a happening coffee shop. The 45 min talk centers around how we look at our daily work in relation to the gospel, and includes some of the questions and comments raised by the attendees on the day.
In partnership with the New York City Redeemer Presbyterian Church Missions centre and local Durban churches and individuals, the FWA facilitated a two-session series at Christ Church Umhlanga about practically applying the Biblical narrative to your own work context. The first session set the theological grounding for understanding the impact of the Christian Biblical Worldview, while the second session further expounded this into the Design-Distortion-Redemption (DDR) framework and practically applied this using case studies as examples.

Gert takes us through his journey as a pastor and later as a marketplace ministry networker and how his thinking changed from an organizational church focus to kingdom-mindedness. He asks the questions: “How does the local church need to change to make impact?” and “What does it take to disciple a nation?” He shares his personal learnings and perspectives, such as seek mentorship from people outside the church organization; speaking into the need of people to effect (societal) change, and the pastor’s role in bringing the presence of the church into the workplace. He ends with four challenges to pastors to:
- “Despiritualise” their language of theology through use of practical everyday language.
- Simplify being church – less programmes, more listening.
- Expose yourself and learn about what is outside your church walls and theology.
- Finding “your Moses” that will lead you and help you understand.

He takes us through what may be at stake if we don’t integrate congregants’ faith into their everyday lives and gives practical application examples of how to go about making practical adjustments to church life to incorporate this integration.
