Our Summer Series continues with some Fridge Cigarette updates and a house paint analogy before we head on over to this month’s Midlife Milestone: The multiple surgeries on Steven’s ever-aging that have him considering his life moving forward.
The guys discuss the benefits of seeing into the inside of your own body in realtime, what it’s like to have limits thrust upon you, when to ignore pain and when to act, Jupiter and Venus kissing, Anthony paying his kids to wait in line, comedy bits about tea that had Steven rolling in the aisle, and a very special episode of Family Matters.

It’s Virtual Race Weekend, and here’s a special treat for those of you who are getting out there (and everyone else too): The first episode of our Midlife Milestones Summer Series!
This summer we’ll tell three stories of embracing our aging bodies, and how those experiences have reshaped how they understand ourselves, our relationships, how we function in the world, and what really matters in (mid)life. This week: Anthony Gets Glasses. We talk clarity of vision, neighborly meet-cutes, not ignoring what needs to be changed, “Setup Summer,” and the Forest Moon of Endor.

We were so sad to hear about the passing of America’s Coach Jeff Galloway this past Wednesday at the age of 80. Jeff was so important to our own running journeys, as his Run-Walk-Run method has gotten us out on the streets and trails and over finish lines again and again. We will miss Jeff so much, and he will always be in our hearts as we continue to run (walk-run) into and beyond our middle age.
To honor him we decided to rerelease our interview with Jeff from July 2022. Topics range from pro-walking to winning marathons to exercise psychology to the history of running for fitness in America. And in our closing segment “Jeff Galloway, Block Deflector,” we lob excuses at the master and he batts them away without breaking a sweat. It is truly a thing to behold.
We love you Jeff! And Happy Run-Walk-Running, Gomernation.

After 17 years, we got back out and ran the Arizona Rock N’ Roll Half Marathon together. In this, our Race in Review ep, we talk about the lead up to the race and the race itself. What was different than Season 1? What was the same? What were the ups and downs? How do we feel? And most importantly, what did we eat?
Join us next week for the Season 1 GomeRewind Season Finale, and the following week for Season 13’s! Happy running!

We take a note from our Season 1 selves and discuss the lead-up to the race, the race itself, and post-race plans. How are we feeling? What will the weather be like? How fast will our pace be? What if one of us can’t finish? And what will we eat?? All that and of course, a ton of fun stuff along the way! See you at the starting line!

Is it December already? The guys give updates on how their training is going as they (fast) approach the half marathon, and it’s a mixed bag. In fact, Steven can hardly hold it together! It’s helps to move to conversation about Generosity, as they consider how giving really is better for our health than receiving – and not only for ourselves, but for others. Seems self-explanatory, but you’d be surprised!

As we approach Thanksgiving, we thought it would be fun to do an episode about how choosing an attitude can improve your health in middle age. We chat about how deciding to engage in the practice of gratefulness can lower cortisol, build new neural pathways that make hope easier to access, decrease everything from depression to digestive problems, and reframe your entire life. Not bad, huh? Also the values of putting your runs in a schedule, having a mantra that works for you(!), and building the most important things in your life out of garbage.

After so many years of trying to figure out if running is really for everyone, the Gomers decide to face the question head on. We know ourselves better than in Season 1, when it was all about learning the rules, finding the correct form, running the right speed, and being the right weight. How have things changed since then? And have we found the exercise that’s right for us? We have a brand new three-legged-stool image to help us figure it out!

“Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” – Nelson Mandela or St Augustine or Buddha or someone
This is a big one folks. Steven’s got a story to tell, and we think it’s going to knock your socks off, especially if you’ve been with us for a while. As he tells it, the guys dig deep into the downsides of unforgiveness and the health benefits of letting things go – to the forgiven person, yes, but even more to the person doing the forgiving. Anthony and Steven have been going for runs for almost two decades. But running in middle age just hits different. So let’s talk about it: what are the specific challenges of running NOW? And what are the (many) benefits? And are there any benefits that don’t feel as…beneficial anymore?
All this plus a Shorts Summer update, Post-Its clarifications, a new Gomerism (from one of the Gomers’ moms) that is bound to become part of the lore of the podcast, and the pleasures of taking a really long time to read a book about magic dogs. Oh, and some Head-On-Collision chaaaaat! Don’t forget to tune in next week for a rewind to Season 1 Episode 2!

In case you missed it, in Season 13 we will alternate between past and present, releasing current episodes, like last week’s, and Season 1 episodes, like this one. Our hope is to take advantage of this amazing gift (our past selves, on tape) to motivate, inspire, and enrich our journey as we tackle the same goal, 17 years later: running a half marathon together, and inviting a nation (you) along for the run.
So here we are, our first (and zeroth) episode ever! Marvel at the fact that our friendship pre-podcast is shorter than our active, podcasting friendship. Cringe at the poor recording quality (and absolutely nothing else). Struggle along with us on our first, cotton-clad jogs. And yes, Steven does call Anthony’s wife “hot.” But apparently she was flattered.

The Gomers are back with the grand reopening of Season 13 after a five-month hiatus! Anthony and Steven reflect on their time away, share life updates, and consider all the lessons learned – including what they Started, Kept Doing, and Stopped. Then is the big preview of the new season and the return of a major challenge: training for the same half marathon they ran 17 years ago. 2025 episodes will alternate between Season 1 eps as we explore growth, setbacks, and second chances, and how many people we used to love who are now cancelled. Plus, we touch on everything from Bob Ross to The Life of Chuck to upcoming Patreon exclusives to pumping iron. We’re back baby!

It’s the final episode before the Gomers’ months-long hiatus, and no stone is left unturned. Who is better, Timothee Chalomet or Bob Dylan? Should one sit or stand while peeing? If the guys were hooked up to lie detectors, what would they say are their favorite songs ever? Will this be the year that Anthony gets glasses/watches The Sound of Music? And how cool were those rugs that Dave Matthews used to stand on during concerts?
Oh yeah, and it’s Steven’s turn to share his 2025 OneWord. First, there’s a lot to unpack around his 2024 OneWord, Embrace (and a brief contentious moment between the guys around it, as well). Then he looks forward to what 2025 might hold (or rather, release).

Then it’s the traditional deep conversation as he looks forward to what is next in 2025, with a ton of fun stuff along the way. Tune in next week for Steven’s word, and Happy New Year!

What better time than the close of the year to talk about a mid-life skill that involves getting a broader view on life so you can respond to it better? And by better, we’re talking healthier, more mature, less anxiety- and stress-driven ways. It’s called Getting on the Balcony, and it’s something Steven has been wanting to share with you for a long time. And since the guys are going on a hiatus in the new year (to, among other things, get on the balcony), it felt like now of never. So “now” it is! Plus, so much fun stuff along the way.
Make sure you listen to our recent release, “A Very Important Gomernouncement” so you can be in the know about what 2025 holds for the podcast. We appreciate you all, Happy New Year!

It’s our annual Christmas Special where we talk about all the things we loved most from the year gone by. And this time, with days and days to shop! Even though you can’t really buy a ticket to see U2 at the Sphere anymore, oh well. Still, we talk about SO many THINGS, plus some experiences and movies and books and oh yeah a ton of fun stuff along the way. Merry Christmas!

It’s the Fifth Friday of the month, and that means it’s an unlock party! We release an episode from the GomerVault on our Patreon feed, and here on the Main Feed we release a classic Patreon ep from behind the paywall.
Two years ago we decided to give Thanksgiving movies their due, and brought our faves to the table in order to decide which movie about family getting together for food, festivities, and fights was the very best. Was it Jack and Jill?? You’ll have to listen to find out!
If you like what you hear, why not subscribe to our Patreon podcast, the Bonus Disc? This episode is the tip of the iceberg. www.patreon.com/twogomers
This episode is meant to listen to while you do a 5k Turkey Trot, or while you are training for one, and it will work great for that – our Audio Guides lead you through a race from start to finish, running for 3 minutes and walking for 1. But you can listen to it in any way you want! Cooking a turkey! Taking a long walk! Cleaning up after you eat the turkey and take a long walk! Seriously, the opportunities are endless.
We focus our attention this year on FOOD WARS, culinary controversies that keep us, and the rest of the internet apparently, up nights. We address one debate per interval, and before you know it, the race will be done (and you will be mad at us about how hungry you are). Happy Thanksgiving, and Happy Running!
It’s more than taking a break. It’s more than following a rule. It’s more than not working. So what is it? It’s more than you think. And it’s a way that can truly lead to health in all sorts of ways as you seek to embrace midlife. Join us as we have a lively conversation (and a ton of fun stuff along the way) about what it means to take a Sabbath.

On this ep we talk dogs, tricks, and try to answer questions like:
At midlife, do I just know what I know and that’s as far as I go?
Have I hit a max capacity for what I can do and new skills I can learn?
Am I who I am (and do I have the right to use that as an excuse for all my bad behavior), or can I change for the better?
Also, does Steven only like chill songs when he’s running? And is Megalopolis as bad as everyone says? Plus tons of fun stuff along the way! Happy Developing.

Our listeners have been along for the run with us for 16 years, since Steven’s kids were 2 and 4. Now they are out of the house, and it’s another midlife milestone. So let’s talk about it. What are the emotions that come with an empty nest? How is a mom or dad to face these jarring, difficult, exciting changes? How can one move past the clichés and respond in love? Plus: strength training, live comedy, platitudes on our walls, and Arnold shouting at the Predator.
*This episode has been edited to remove several details of Steven’s process that felt too private for the main feed. The unedited version (with an additional 3 minutes) is available behind the paywall on the Patreon now. If you are a subscriber, you can listen there.

We’re focusing on our relational health in this ep, and how we can help another person grow in THEIR health. Whether you call it pouring out, investing in, passing on, leaving a legacy, or giving of yourself for the sake of someone else, we hope this episode encourages you to share the wisdom, experience, skills and time you have with another person. Plus lots of travel chat, Stevie’s Summer Thrifting Report, and what NOT to say to someone if you want to continue to have a healthy relationship with them.

Four years ago we were in the throes of a contentious presidential election and we felt like we needed to do something unifying, so we (and our Gomertrons) chose the greatest fictional president from the movies. Contentious presidential election…sound familiar? We thought this was the perfect time to release this to the public, hope you enjoy!

Try to stay awake during this ep, we are talking sleep! It’s the third episode in our Truman Quadrilogy (Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening and Good Night) and this one’s all about falling asleep, staying asleep, and getting back to sleep if you happen to have your sleep interrupted (by, say, a sock falling off of the light you covered it up with). Plus a Disney World-themed Songs To Run To, a million bees, and a ton of fun stuff along the way.

It’s a sequel to last year’s Listen Closely, and this time the guys talk abut asking. What questions are the kind that not only develop your health – relationally, familially, and professionally – but make the people you are talking with feel honored, encouraged, and loved? Hint: you need to actually care about the other person. But there’s so much more – this ep is packed with tips on how to become a person who people say “Good question!” to. Plus a GomerUpdate from Anthony about his July of getting back on the horse, and what’s bringing us life this week.

Sometimes we’re stubborn as mules, but more often we fall off the horse and need to start again. And when we do, we like to record an episode about it. Anthony’s July has been a big one as he’s made decisions to get healthier, and he’s champing at the bit to talk about the ways his actions have backed up his convictions. Are you feeling like you need to do something to jumpstart your goals toward healthier living? Let this episode inspire you. If nothing else, let it teach you new horse idioms.

Sometimes it feels like a numbers game – there’s a lot we want to change about our lives as we chase health in middle age, but how many things should we be taking on at a the same time? 10? 20? 30? 1000? We seek out what experts are saying and also seek to know ourselves when it comes to our high hopes (and long lists of goals) for healthy change. Plus shirtless Baby Steps and a celebration of the Virtual Race gone by. Take that beer out the fridge and Happy Running!

On the Two Gomers Podcast we talk a lot about how our phones suck up our energy, time, and attention, and how that’s bad for middle age health journey. So why it so hard to just stop looking at it so much? Because nature abhors a vacuum – you have to fill that screen-hole with something else. In this ep we talk about how putting pen to paper can be so much better than putting finger to screen. Plus Songs to Run To and of course, a ton of fun stuff along the way.

We all have full schedules, plenty of commitments, and busy lives. On this episode we’re facing what happens when our schedules are TOO full, we are OVERcommitted, and the pace of our busy lives starts to have negative effects on ourselves and the people we care about. Taking a cue from some of our favorite teachers and writers, we tackle the tyranny of the urgent. How can eradicate unhealthy hurry from our lives, especially as we seek to embrace middle age? Plus power washing, frisbee throwing, flute playing, and hat wetting. It’s all here!

For those of us in midlife, we know: our bodies ain’t what they used to be. So why are so many of us so resistant to learning more? Why, when we are hurt or suffering, do we ignore it rather than get help or advice? Is ignorance really bliss?

No, this ep isn’t about whether our body-image is healthy enough to run around naked on the field during a football game. We are talking about consistency streaks – like when you run for a week in a row, or eat a healthy meal every day for a month, or close your rings for 541 days without stopping, or when you do Wordle a lot. Do streaks – and one’s adherence to them (or lack thereof) – help or hurt in a journey toward health? The guys dig in to the pros and cons, and discuss an alternative that might help them, and you. Plus more grocery store clips, a healthy amount of Dune Part Two Chaaaaaat, and Bob Dylan too. Happy Streaking!

Having trouble settling down before bed? That could be bad for your health. And your sleep. And your morning. And your day. Repeat ad infinitum.
The guys talk about what it takes to separate from the business of the day and get ready for night in this, the second ep in the Truman “Have a Good…” series. Circadian rhythms! Seinfeld routines! Sunglasses at night! Pillow talk boundaries! And a very mysterious event that they can neither confirm or deny, that happened already, so I guess we can confirm it now? Have a good evening!

And it is such a beefy topic (with so much amazing input from the Gomernation) that we had to split it in two! This is Part I, complete with What’s Giving us Life and the return of Gomers’ Tips of the Week…plus SO much fun stuff along the way, and one heck of a cliffhanger. Happy 400, and here’s to 400 more!

The boys are back and they have a lot to talk about, including miles tracked at Disney World vs. Disneyland, a 100-Day-Dry update, feeling old, being quiet, showing empathy, and how best to use your voice. Steven’s block this past month was a rough surgery recovery, but we think you’ll like how this story ends. Happy Running, so good to be back!

Two years ago this month, Alex Grahmann guested on the Bonus Disc (www.patreon.com/twogomers) and helped us pick THE perfect cereal (ok, ok – the top three). On that now-classic ep, he mentioned that he would be starting his cereal-based YouTube channel, Cerealsly, soon.
“Soon” has finally arrived! To celebrate Alex’s new endeavor (new episodes of Cerealsly are now dropping every Friday) and because Steven’s throat is still healing, we thought unlock the episode from behind the paywall for all to enjoy!

It’s the Gardetto’s of Two Gomers eps! Before Steven went under the knife last week and took a month-long vow of silence (he’s doing great!), the guys talked about everything they needed to talk about – and most of it had to do with their health journeys. Steven ran his annual birthday 13.1 race and give a race in review. Anthony made a big commitment for his physical, mental, and spiritual health. And Steven answered some pressing questions about his upcoming surgery. Oh, and a ton of fun stuff along the way!

We kick 2023 off with our annual tradition: picking ONE WORD that we want to define our upcoming year. It’s Steven’s turn, and after he has Anthony flip a proverbial coin, he settles (ha) on his word, and it turns out to be just the right one. Plus, runny nose chat and Anthony asks Steven what might be the most controversial question in all of Gomer history. It’s about dog poop. Happy New Year!

2011 really snuck up on the Gomers, and they are both realizing that their half-marathons are closer than they thought. Now that the Gomers are fully into their 3rd season, guess what? There’s more distractions, injuries, and weird sicknesses than you can shake a bassoon at. But that’s not stopping them – in fact, they’ve both been having pretty great weeks – not counting the blood in the urine, of…

It’s a shorter episode this week after the beast that was 30, and in preparation for the third special, but it’s still packed full of goodness – just like a Chicago style pizza. Gomer2 tried Jeff Galloway’s Run-Walk-Run for the first time, while Gomer1 tells his tale of a “dress…

Both Gomers pulled out their LSRs this week (that stands for Long Slow Runs, emphasis on the SLOW), Gomer2 just barely. However, a new tactic has arisen that helped him get through the bonk – and no, it’s not imagining that he’s being chased by giant worms. Plus: Middle School…

The title explains it all, right? This past week Steven got hit by a car while on a run in the fair city of Denver, and he is able to sit up long enough to record a shorter episode so the Gomernation knows the details. And, more importantly, so they…

Humble pie, anyone? The Gomers have a big slice they’d be willing to share. The good news is, most of the Gomernation has forgiven the guys for their insensitivity last week, and after an initial apology from their future selves, they’re ready to move on. Both of them ran a…
It was a lighter week for the Gomers, and they have a lot to say about it – most of it good. With the marathon coming up fast, it’s a nice thing to have a good week once in a while! And since they had a little time to breathe,…
