In this episode of the SNES Podcast, Greg and Joe were joined by guest Alex to talk about one of his favorite shooters on the SNES -- Pocky and Rocky! This obscure Nastume game licensed from Taito allows you to play the role of either shrine maiden Pocky or squirrel Rocky as you blast through six stages a la Commando or Ikari Warriors to stop a evil force. This totally over the top game full of Japanese charm is very similar to Legend of the Mystical Ninja in it's Japan-ese look and feel. Just be prepared to play via emulation if you'd like to play this interesting game!
Please be aware that Alex sadly lost his audio file after recording the podcast so you will only hear Joe and I speak about the game. In this episode Greg and George look at an obscure and unique RPG with strategic battles by Koei -- Inindo: Way of the Ninja! Part of the long running Nobunaga's Ambition franchise, this game uses some alternative history where Nobunaga did not die in 1582 but instead continued his campaign to conquer all of Japan. You play a young ninja whose clan was destroyed by Nobunaga, and you must train up and gather experience and learn your ninja arts, then use diplomacy to get other rulers to attack and weaken Nobunaga so you can storm his castle to get your revenge! Known in the west as Dragon Warrior, Dragon Quest is one of the three 'holy trilogy' of classic Japanese RPG's along with Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star.
