Worker's Liberation Coalition: Canadian Workers History and Current Struggles: Recent Episodes

Workers Liberation Coalition

The untold story of ongoing and past Canadian worker's movements within Canada; as well as that of all forms of struggle and resistance against tyranny, oppression, and exploitation. 'The truth of our history' as it were, the history of all those who have graced the soil of this land and offered up a spirit of rebellion to build a better future. As part of ongoing efforts by the Workers Liberation Coalition to unify worker's of all backgrounds and ways of life, to form a united front to stand up for workers rights and our future, this podcast series will help to shed light on the side of Canada we've never been told about. The trials and efforts of our forefathers and any who have resisted against the colonial or capitalist system that exploits everyone of us and the very land beneath our feet. We hope to educate Canadian worker's on the past we have grown from, the struggles we currently are facing, and unite to build a better future for all who call this land home.

On this episode we sit down with Joe Vickers, a Drumheller musician who wrote a song about today's topic (be sure to stick around till the end to catch the song!), as well as Jay Russell, a historical curator who works at the Atlas Coal Mine Historical site in the valley, to discuss the Drumheller strike of 1919 and its implications for Albertan and Canadian workers, as well as the lessons we can learn from and use to move forward with workers issues today.

The shows intro music is a remix of Billy Bragg's cover of the song "Which side are you on." This was put together by Devon Manning of Lionhearted, so big thanks to him and be sure to check out his music:

On this episode we had Judith Gale from the Edmonton Bear Clan Patrol on the show to discuss their work with the homeless community of the city as well as the incident which took place involving the Edmonton City Police kicking homeless individuals out of the LRT stations where they were attempting to keep warm, and sent them out into -35 C weather despite the city saying it was alright for them to stay there.
