Limiting mindsets can show themselves in so many ways: The Inner Critic, Imposter Syndrome, Feeling Stuck…and they tend to show up even more profoundly when we’re growing and changing. But that said, they can also occur in smaller ways, impacting our joy for entire seasons at a time. So today we talk how being aware of those mindsets, and then engaging more mindfully, can make a huge difference in how we experience our days.

Notes & Reflections:
“Crazy” idea:
- You don’t have to fix things for people. Oftentimes, being heard is enough.

Being heard:
- Nurtures
- Heals
- Transforms

The big step in getting there:
- Learning to manage our reactivity

Tangible how-to’s:
- Stop talking
- Focus your attention on the speaker

What if my feelings come up?!
- Notice your feelings.
- Set them aside to deal with later on
- Return your attention to the speaker.

What else can we do to help?
- Establish whether or not you’re invited to ask questions.
- Practice mirroring and paraphrasing.
- Know that most people are more open to support & clarification than feedback
- Avoid the question “why.”
- Practice using open-ended questions: What & How

Notes & Reflections:
Ephesians on Prayer:
- Prayer is, at least in part, a warrior initiative.
- Prayer equips and strengthens us.
- The Holy Spirit is the great conduit of our prayers.

A few things that may help us when we pray:
- The Holy Spirit is really big.
- God can and will work in the context of the realities of our lives.
- Not all prayers will or can be answered right away.

Techniques:
- Keep a prayer list
- Periodically note when your prayers have been answered
- Ask Jesus how you should be praying?
- Allow your thoughts to be promptings to pray
- Try praying in new places and at new times of day.

What Righteous Anger is not:
- It’s not about an emotional reaction.

Baseline Human Condition: Reactivity

What is Righteous Anger?
- It’s about those who are being harmed or need help.

Acceptance is:
- Engaging with life as it actually is.

Things to strive for:

    - Calmness and evenness in difficult situations
Just – to show evenness and fairness in one’s actions
Humbly - to show care and thought for the future

- Hope for the longer arch of the human story

Theodore Parker:  “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”
