This week, on Hanging with the Haizmans, we talk about an exciting new challenge I have taken on this year - the 1,000 Hours Outside Challenge. That’s roughly 3 hours outside a day!
This challenge is going to really push me to make getting out of the house a priority. With my 2-year-old daughter, and baby number 2 due in the spring, I am determined to give it my best shot for my own mental health and for the overall wellbeing of my family.
Listen along as we discuss the hurdles we have already faced with the weather (right now in Illinois we are in the negatives!), and with the introduction of a new routine for our toddler (getting full winter gear on a 2-year-old every single day is not for the weak 🤪).
I would absolutely love for you and your family to do the challenge with me! For more information check out 1000hours.com

Have you heard of the five love languages?
If not, the basic concept is when it comes to relationships, we all have our preferred ways of giving and receiving love.
It's safe to say one of Alexander's love languages is quality time. This is something I am guilty of neglecting between working and being a mom. So, with the intention of carving out more time together, (and my love of a good challenge), I gifted him the 52 Dates challenge for 2024!
That means we will prioritize one date night every single week for the whole year! Listen along as we discuss why this means so much to us, keeping the dates unique, and how we envision sticking with it when baby #2 joins us in May!

This episode is a truly unique one! I'm sharing some of the things I loved, and didn't love about the book "Montessori From the Start" Written by Paula Polk Lillard and Lynn Lillard Jessen.Â
Overall, I think it could be a beneficial read, there is a lot of useful information and new ways of thinking about parenting.Â
However, I strongly believe there are many ways to parent.. and part of me was turned off by how strong of views were in this book.Â

Ashleigh Renard was raised in figure skating and took the quest for perfectionism into marriage and motherhood. Through her candid presence on social media she has invited her audience to walk alongside her as she transformed from Martyrmom to Selfish Mom (and realized that it certainly was her self-sacrifice that was keeping her family miserable), building a committed mass-following who tune in daily for her fresh, no-fuss advice on everything from keeping monogamy hot, to renegotiating a marriage, to getting kids to clean the house (because nothing makes her prouder than child labor). With savvy and plenty of humor, her down-to-earth voice tackles topics that are relatable to anyone struggling with the awkwardness of living in a meat suit at Earth School. She resides in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her husband, their three children, a cat, and a dog. As a child she thought Pennsylvania the most unfortunately named state, too similar to Transylvania. To her delight, it has ample sunlight and a remarkably low population of vampires. Listen in to hear a real, honest conversation about;
- Unrealistic expectations of perfectionism
- Depending on others
- Rehabbing a shabby marriage
- Intimacy & Marriage
- Communication
- Motherhood
