At the age of 20, Jenessa MacKenzie became a mom. Ready or not, she was forced to tackle everything that came along with motherhood. She did everything necessary to survive and provide for her daughter - living on state aid, clipping coupons, and asking for help.
After some time with her daughter, she started dating and got married. Eventually, she found herself in the midst of narcissistic abuse avoiding an inevitable divorce.
Over time, Jenessa has been able to heal and discover her life's purpose. She now uses her experience to help others and has the unique gift of being able to mix the woo with the do and use her tangible, aligned action, results driven, leadership to help others.

By sharing the story of her sexual assault through a blog post, Samantha embarked on a journey filled with self-growth, self-healing, and self-love.

Kawan Glover is many things, but the word survivor is definitely at the top of the list. He survived a stroke, opioid addiction, multiple brain surgeries, and a battle with depression. Throughout the process of it all, Kawan found his life’s purpose. Kawan now an author and life coach who uses his story to inspire others and transform them from victim to victor.

About eight years ago, Charlene was hit by a bus. Yes, a real bus, an actual bus, like the phrase so many of us use, “I feel like I was hit by a bus.” Well, Charlene actually was. So, before you say that phrase again, think about Charlene and Charlene’s story.
Being hit by a bus fractured Charlene's skull and caused significant brain swelling. This led to four neurosurgeries, a bone infection, and a chronic non-healing wound. Being left with a traumatic brain injury, Charlene embarked on a healing journey that is truly incredible - a journey we'll share today. Tune in, and hang on, because here we go.

Dana Hansen and her two siblings Kasey and Bryce experienced a traditional midwest upbringing being raised by their parents on the family farm. Dana's childhood memories include 4-H, watching Saturday Nebraska Cornhuskers football games, and helping her mom prepare for family gatherings.
Their family bond continued well into adulthood. In fact, Dana and Kasey even lived together for a while and shared a love of sports, Netflix, and dogs. One day in 2017, their families lives changed forever when Dana's sister Kasey had a heart attack. The days that followed Kasey's heart attack came with a whirlwind of emotions and decisions for the family, and they were devastated when Kasey passed away.
Today, they do everything they can to keep Kasey's legacy moving forward. Dana's mother and cousin even started Kasey's Kindness Acts on Facebook where people do and share random acts of kindness in memory of Kasey.

Megan te Boekhorst was born and raised in Canada. As a teenager, she found herself in an emotionally abusive relationship. Shortly after ending that relationship, she realized that her relationship with food was unhealthy. Megan sought out on a journey to find the help she needed and live a life of recovery. Being diagnosed with binge eating disorder, this was no easy task as it has only been in recent years that binge eating disorder was recognized as an official diagnosis.
After finding her own path to recovery, Megan te Boekhorst is now a certified life coach, therapeutic art coach, and fierce mental health advocate. Megan knows that negative self-talk and fear are two of the most common reasons people don’t pursue their big, scary, amazing goals. As a life coach, Megan teaches people how she has learned how to shut down her own destructive thinking and manage fear, allowing people to discover happiness every single day.

Growing up, Payton was the oldest of five children. Captivated at a young age by Disney’s storytelling, Payton dreamed of dancing down Main Street, USA. She now holds her dream job and tells stories through the magic of Guest engagement as a Product Manager at The Walt Disney Company.
Payton always thought she would have a large family of her own, but after meeting the man of her dreams, securing her dream job, and beginning to settle down, things didn’t go as planned. Payton and her husband Jon are currently fighting a battle with infertility.
In the midst of her battle with infertility, Payton turned to something she has always loved to cope - writing. In 2020 she decided to take the plunge and write her first book which is inspired by her husband Jon and his story as a 9/11 surviving child. Her book, Rise from the Ashes, will explore the stories of 9/11 surviving children hoping to uncover what it means to bounce forward after tragedy. Pre-sales for Rise from the Ashes start in April of 2021.

Growing up the youngest sibling in a large family, Jody Allen-Bisio wasn't always 'in the know.' As a result, she struggled to find herself and discover her individuality. After being taught that drinking a glass of water would solve every problem in the world, Jody quickly learned that picking up a glass of alcohol seemed like it would. Little did she know the journey this would take her on - one that led to alcoholism, getting sober, and eventually recovery.
Ashley and Jody first met in a 12-step recovery meeting. In Episode 16, they take some time to dig into Jody's story and discuss the defining moments in her journey including how she found sobriety and eventually became a counselor. In Episode 14, Ashley meets with Rick Werry. Rick was born in a small town in Utah. He grew up the youngest of four kids on a dairy farm. As a teenager Rick loved sports and being outdoors. In 2007, Rick married his college sweetheart Tara.
One year later while building their house, Rick was in a construction accident and broke his neck. His life changed that day as Rick became paralyzed from the chest down. Rick was scared, sad, and unsure what the future may hold when a nurse came into his hospital room. The nurse was holding a red pen and a calendar. She told Rick that any time you accomplish something you couldn't do yesterday we will write it down and call it a "Red Letter Day.”
Rick has taken that nurses advice not only for recovering from a spinal cord injury, but also as a life lesson. In Rick's 'wheelchair life,' he has accomplished so many amazing things. He has a handcycle and rides long distances, plays wheelchair rugby, and is always hunting. Rick and Tara now have twin boys. Rick is a great dad and always playing with the boys. Rick hopes to compile his life lessons and Red letter Days into a memoir and plans to have it published.

After receiving a poor prognosis while fighting a battle with cancer, Lindsay Anne Stetson made it her life goal to live like she was dying. In the midst of her own pain, she found ways to SpreadJOY to others on a daily basis through social media. In her last days on earth, she filed paperwork to start a nonprofit, SpreadJOY. The mission of SpreadJOY is to fulfill needs for and give a pick-me-up to people going through a difficult time in their life.
