Do you know how to grow an audience? Do you know how to grow an audience, specifically, for your podcast? Is it enough to just be a nerd about a topic, like successful nerds, or is there more to it?
Today I would like to introduce you to the minds behind the book "Podcasting Made Simple", Taig and Anthony. I actually connected with them over on IG, and after a conversation we had back and forth, I wanted to invite them onto the podcast to share some of their story and their expertise.
A lot of you already know this, but for any new listeners out there, I am a full time podcast producer for a number of other shows...but I wanted to have these guys on for a couple of different reasons. One, I know some of you are podcasters as well and I think it is a great resource for those of us in this industry, which I think would be nothing without nerds. But also, they have explored some growth strategies for their business, that not a lot of other people have use who have been on this show. So I am excited to share their story with you today and the resources that they offer.

He wrote the book "Level Up Your Life: How to Unlock Adventure and Happiness by Becoming the Hero of Your Own Story"
This is actually one of the books I read when I was becoming serious about being an entrepreneur. You will hear me fan-boy from time to time in this interview, which I should apologize in advance for but I wont because this was such a big interview for me in my Hero's Journey.

The Hero's Journey has been a topic of discussion lately on this podcast. And I think because of this interview, I have come to appreciate it as part of every entrepreneur's road to success. However this episode is also a major point of reflection for me because I get to introduce you to someone who played an important role in my hero's journey to becoming a successful nerd.

Reselling video games for a living...Do I have your attention? A lot of you will hear me talk about reselling in some of these interviews, it is a great way to make some extra money but it is also a great business to be in. I had what I would consider some moderate success, but I never really niched down into just one category. I bought a couple of collections here and there but I wish I could have cracked the code on that business model to the degree that today's guest has.
Today you will be hearing from Chase, Video game reseller, influencer, and enthusiast. He has been in the reselling game since he was 8 years old, and now operates a 6 figure reselling business which he operates with his team. He has a Youtube Channel with a few viral videos on video game reselling (which is where I found him) and he is one of the most down to earth guests I have had the pleasure of guesting on the show.
In this interview you are going to get some tips and insights from Chase about the Reselling video game market, and you are going to hear from a fellow nerd who has been through the whole Hero's Journey of building a business based off of something he was passionate about.

There are times that I wish I could see into the future, and just know wether or not I was going to be successful doing what I am passionate about. And the closest I can ever get to that meeting others who have been pursuing their passions professionally longer than I have and picking their brain for a little while. This is one of the reasons I get so much out of doing the BusinessRPG Podcast, I have an opportunity to see what it looks like for someone else to have kept with something they love to the point of being successful at it as a business. And I get to spend the time set aside for these interviews to ask my questions but I also get to let them influence me for just a little while.
That is part of what makes the audience so specific, is that we (nerds) dont always get to be taken seriously as business owners, or industry experts. But today's guest is a great example of what can happen when you stick with what it is you want to really be when you grow up.
This week you will be meeting Keiko. She is a Voice Actor, Director, Writer, Caster, Coach, and wears several other hats besides. She is the Owner of MLA Entertainment and runs a YouTube channel that she started along side her business in 2010. She is the creator of the Project Infinity web series, and is the host of the podcast Keiko's Diary where she gets to talk with and interview other creatives and voice actors.
In this episode you will hear her talk about the Voice Acting industry, the different hats she has had to wear as a result of all the projects she has brought to life, and you are going to hear her talk about how pursuing her passions has had a net benefit in her professional career.

I had a guest on today who has taken the Hero's Journey to a whole new level. The Hero's Journey is a staple of story telling, and story telling is a staple of nerd culture...It is one of the reasons that I think nerds have a competitive advantage in business and content creation...we have a great connection with story telling.
The guest I will be introducing you to today is someone who has done a great job of leveraging the Hero's Journey into marketing and branding. Today you will be Hearing from Landen Conner, a Pharmacist turned Photographer that has mastered the art of capturing a person's brand in their own photo. In this episode you are going to hear us talk about how he instills confidence in his clients, Some branding tips including an introduction to the concept of story branding, and how to tell the story of the person in the picture. I recognize that a lot of the people I have on the show are business owners or freelancers that have created their own opportunities and built a career on their own...But I know that isnt the only way to be successful. I have been looking for someone who I could have on the show who went another route to be a successful nerd but doing it for another business in the industry that they love, and finally I have found someone who was willing to come on and share their story.
Meet Andrew Searles. He is a Product manager for D&D Beyond, and has found his dream job of figuring out how to make RPG players have a better experience in their games. Andrew has a lot to share in this episode and an amazing story of how he got to where he is now. I tried asking questions that any listener might have when it came to finding a company they like that they would want to work for and Andrew didnt hold anything back when I asked.

Opportunities come when you sit down and start something. That is one of the biggest lessons I have learned from doing this podcast and from starting a business. That is also one of the biggest takeaways I have from this interview and the guest that we have today.
Brian Rathbone is a professional fantasy author who has successfully navigated a pathway to growing his audience and selling his books across multiple platforms and mediums. To put it simply, he has hacked the book publishing industry.
I have been trying to have an author on the show for a while and I was delighted when I met brian and came to learn he was dnd nerd...who just happened to have written a top-selling fantasy series, The World of Godsland. He now helps other authors and publishers figure out what they want out of writing their books helps them make a plan to achieve those goals.
His career as a professional writer has taken him and his business to many different places, which is part of why I am so excited to have him on.

One of my favorite industries in Nerd Culture is D&D. And I use the word “industry” intentionally. Its a very big cultural phenomenon that I think has a lot more potential then what has been explored so far, even in the face of Covid and the thousands who have been introduced to it during the course of the past 2 years. I dont view it as just a medium of entertainment but I see it as an avenue where a business can thrive and creativity is rewarded beyond any other field or niche that I know of.
So, it is no wonder that I get excited whenever I have an opportunity to talk to today’s guest who not only sees the potential this industry offers, she actually is doing something about it beyond what I see most people do.
Today we are going to hear back from Joanna from D&D research Wizards! Do you know how or when to admit you are an expert in something? Where is the line between aspiring expert and full blown expert?
This is something I have always struggled with and I have noticed a pattern in some of the guests that have been on the show. I think it is important to acknowledge when you are an expert and Id did an episode listing 3 reasons why. Becoming an expert is a long process with a lot of rewards and a lot of gray areas. The only way to get there is to measure your progress but the only way to do that is to be honest.

Lance has been a go to for me when it comes to ideas and getting advice in this space, and I strongly believe in print on demand as a revenue stream that anyone with a business needs to turn around and start.
