More work continues on the upcoming "Best of the Best" show, I have a track list, and now I just have to spend some time to start piecing it together. In more personal news, a valued contributor to RSA, my buddy Sundie, passsed away earlier this week. He was responsible for 3d printing the RSA tags, and even printed a replacement knob for a fan I have and embossed on the top "Real Synthetic Knob". There's a certain comfort on a Sunday morning, listening to the show before finalizing it with a grey cat on your lap, and the Orange Monster is nearby hoping to get his turn for scritches. Though it does make typing a bit harder than usual. I've been slowly working on a special "bonus" show for everyone as its been ~7 years since we last did a "best of the best" but it's really hard. Not necessarily selecting the tracks, but deciding which ones you need to leave out due to length. Its like choosing your favourite children. Not easy. Wound up catching a 48 hour flu this week so the show is a little later than usual. Had to stay up late last night listening to music so that I could get RSA done! The cold/flu sucked, but it was nice to just relax last night and let the music flow over me. Hopefully the coming week will be a bit better. At least fall is approaching and I can enjoy the leaves changing colour and the more temperate weather. Just no more rain. Sad week week as it was announced that Héctor Marin Rios of Nordika passed away. Its especially sad as he'll never get to see how well the Lost Generation single is doing. My condolences to his friends and family. Welcome to the last week of August where we start to mourn the end of summer. Personally I think that Autumn is the most "goth" of all seasons because its cool enough that we can wear a nice leather jacket, but not so cool that you have to zip the thing up. I think I can still zip up my old jacket, but there might be some compression effect happening on my stomach. Its also the time that labels start getting things ready for the holiday season! We've had a crazy amount of rain this summer in Toronto. Had another flooding level rain storm yesterday, and it looks like this afternoon is going to be very "Sunny UK" ... ie grey and raining. I was going to spend my morning on the new balcony sipping my tea and generally getting used to the idea of being awake. Everything is slowly coming together at the new place. My office is nice and set up, and I'm now at the point where I'm taking in photographs to get (re)framed and doing the finishing touches that change a house into a home. Its another beautiful Sunday morning, so I'm up bright and early to get RSA posted. I always try to get the show up early because I'm aware that I'm technically 5-7 hours behind Europe, and I have to play catch up. Of course the West coast of the US is still asleep, so I'm nice and early for them. It always tickles me that we have listeners in practically every timezone, and a LOT of countries. I truly do wish that I travelled well because I could meet a bunch of people who listen or make music we play without having to go near a festival. (Multiple days of no rest, noise, and very bright lights do a number on me.) The move is complete, while the vacation is not. This is a wonderful combination. But in between unpacking and decorating I made sure I had time to get RSA done for everyone this week. Well the Amazon issue seems to have resolved itself, so I went back through the play lists for May and June of this year and properly annotated them. As much as the weather so far this year has either been thunderstorming or sweltering on the weekends, this sucks for my cycling, but it does give me more time on the weekends to get RSA finished. Had a bit of an existential crisis last week, wondering if RSA has become irrelevant. Once upon a time I did an interview with I Die: You Die and when the topic of is there any end in sight, I commented that what would probably be the end was when RSA became irrelevant. Couple that with some back end technical issues that have been driving me bananas and I suddenly wondered if that time had come. A friend of mine once asked if "Imposter syndrome" ever goes away. Had another interaction this week with a listener who stopped listening for whatever reason a decade ago, decided to look us up and voila! Here we are still putting together great shows for everyone. Getting ready for labour day as we take a day off and celebrate those workers who fought for stuff we take for granted, like a 40 hour work week. Now if we could only do something about vacations in North America. Took me 12 years to get a "European" length of vacation time, and if I'm really lucky I'll get some more time at year 15. Another fine summer week spent listening to new music while working and trying to stay cool. I can hardly wait until my renoviction is over and I can move back to my "new" building next year. A short work week behind us, and I managed to get sick again on Thursday! But I'm luckily still a Covid virgin, so it only kept me down for a few days. I'm getting closer and closer to my trip and its beginning to be hard to concentrate on my day to day activities. I'm quite literally sheltering inside today because the Canadian equivalent to the European heatwave is hitting Toronto right now. Not loving days at 40c, and it isn't cooling off much at all at night. So I'm one of the lucky ones who can sit indoors in relative comfort (I really don't have enough AC for this weather) and do indoor things. I'm taking a little vacation this week to make what would normally be a 4 day weekend into 7 days of rest and recuperation. Especially recuperation as I had my 4th vaccination and it didn't floor me, but definitely made me feel extra blah for a few days.
