SWAN Dive - the part of the show where we dive into SWAN (Savage Worlds Adventure Night) , our one shot adventure night exploring the many settings for the Savage Worlds roleplaying game.

Discussion Question - where the Friends will try to answer the question when are you done prepping that game?

Discord Spotlight - Our time to let you know all the wonderful things going on in the Discord and why you should jump on in!

As always we ask you to share & rate the show, however you listen, and remind you that you can send questions, disagreements, gaming ideas or fan letters (mostly for Chris) to Our Email or in our Discord. We’ll see you next week!

Welcome back to Gaming with Gage, your podcast for role-playing games and the periphery.

Thanks for being here.

Hello everyone and thank you so much for joining just here for Season 7 of Gaming with Gage. It’s been a year long hiatus and I am so excited to jump back into the mix. But before we do, I want to take a moment to remind all of you that when this episode ends, the conversation will continue in our Discord server.

This week I have the honor and privilege to welcome back to the show Eric Ausley. Eric is a host of Gamerstable, GM of the Audioverse award winning Actual Play Resting Glitch Face, Producer of many a live stream and, most importantly, the first guest we ever had on Gaming with Gage.

This week’s topic is When the Player’s Takeover!

Hello everyone! Thank you so much to everyone who tuned in last week for our Season Premiere. Seeing the download numbers moving after we drop an episode brings me so much joy. Also seeing the conversation continuing on our Discord server. If you want to jump into that you can find the link in our show notes.

This week I get to sit down with Mike Brodeur from The Influence Foundation. Mike worked on the retail side of the RPG community for over 15 years, is a regular host on the popular Fear the Boot podcast and hosts his own podcast on The Influence Foundation called Why We Game?

And thank you to everyone who tuned in to Extracurricular Activities last Thursday. I have so much fun running that game and I was very excited to introduce Char to the cast. For the uninitiated, ExA is an East Texas University live stream that is produced by Gamerstable. You can catch the VOD and future episodes at twitch.tv/gamerstable.

For those of you who were listening last season you may have caught that we did a Rebroadcast of our initial chat with James D’Amato. Well that got me thinking and I reached out to James to see if he wanted to come back on the show! We had such a good time catching up on all the crazy things that’ve happened over at One Shot. We specifically spent a lot of time talking about the changes to Skyjacks, the new setting for Campaign. One of my favorite things about doing this show is inviting creative people on to talk about what they're passionate about and James never disappoints.

And thank you to everyone who joined us for our season premiere last week. It’s always exciting to start a new season and see that you’re listening and enjoying. Judging by the numbers, we’ve got some new listeners this season so let me take a moment to say welcome! Feel free to say hi on any of our Social Media accounts or come join our discord.

This week, I’m excited to say, I was joined by Richard Woolcock. Richard is a fixture in the Savage Worlds community, though some may know him under the name Zadmar. In addition to the popular Saga of the Goblin Horde, he has also designed and released Tricube Tales, a system originally designed to run easy games for his son that has now been expanded into a full game. We talked about game design, how Richard plans out projects and some of his upcoming work. If you want to be kept to date, the best place to find Richard is on his blog.

And thank you for being here for Season Six! It’s incredible to be working on another season of Gaming with Gage and I’m so excited for some of the interviews we have lined up. A couple of quick reminders before we jump into the episode. The easiest way to get in touch with myself or any of this cast is through our discord. We also run games there so if you’re looking to break into virtual gaming, come check it out. Also, we have a Patreon! Today our $5/month backers are listening to We Watch, We Talk our Patreon exclusive podcast where Amanda and I watch a movie and then we talk about it. Next month we’re watching the Rocketeer so come join us.

The guest this week is Tracy Sizemore and I couldn’t have picked a better person to launch Season Six. You may be familiar with Tracy from her incredible game design and free lance work but I know her best from Savage Interludes, a weekly Savage Worlds podcast that I adore. You can listen to that show at http://savageinterludes.com. Tracy and I talked about gaming, Savage Worlds and design. I may have gushed a little about some of the tips I’ve picked up from Savage Interludes but what is this show but an excuse for me to talk to people I admire.

And thank you for being here for our Season Finale. I’m blown away every time we wrap a season, even now five seasons and two years later. It’s incredible to me that I get the chance to sit down and chat with so many wonderful gamers, and interact with so many fantastic nerds. Every episode starts with me thanking each and every one of you for being here and I want you to know that I truly mean that. It’s only because of you that I’m able to do this show. So thank you.

Since this is our Season Finale that means you won’t be hearing from me next week but you can catch Season Six on April 6th. Now just because we won’t have regular episodes doesn’t mean we’ll be completely silent. You can still follow us on social media, catch me on some live streams and our Patreon podcast will still be releasing. If you REALLY miss my yammering you can also join our discord and listen to me gush over Locke & Key.

This week our guest is Wayne Cole, of Fear the Boot the tabletop RPG advice podcast. Those of you who caught our ETU: Extra Curricular Activities stream at twitch.tv/gamerstable will also recognize him as Gretsky, the paranoid loner hacker guy in the hoodie. Wayne’s been a host on Fear the Boot for over 10 years and a diehard Super Hero fan even longer. And thank you to everyone who made it out for Big20 last night. It’s always a pleasure doing that show and Dan and Pete were impeccable co-hosts. If you’re listening to this episode the week it comes out, you can catch me back on Gamerstable’s Twitch channel this Thursday at 9PM Eastern.

Since we are approaching the end of Season Five, only one episode left, it is that wonderful time for you to send me your feedback. A new season means we can try new formats, bring back old classics and you can be the deciding vote. You catch up with us on our discord or email me at Gage@SGADPOD.com.

This week our guest is Charlotte Irrgang, of Irrgardless. Char does layout, editing and design for RPGs as well as appearing on Twitch, Discord and that one time where I may have murdered her character. I mean, it happens. Hello everyone and welcome to a very special episode of Gaming with Gage where, after this intro, you won’t be hearing my sweet sweet voice at all. Friend of the show Chris Hussey graciously agreed to show up and take over this week and my gratitude abounds. Seriously, he is the best. And not only is Chris the best but the guest he brought with him is one of the coolest, Senda Linaugh. For those of you who don’t know Senda, you can find her on She’s a Super Geek, Panda’s Talking Games, Gnome Stew and pretty much any corner of the internet where fun games are played. And thank you everyone for your patience this week. I’ve been dealing with some family issues since the New Year and that combined with a work trip made getting the episode out difficult. This week we do have something special for all of you didn’t get a chance to watch the ETU: Extra Curricular Activities stream. Now you can enjoy it in audio! As in, right now. As in, it’s this episode. If you’d prefer to watch the VOD instead you can go to Twitch.tv/gamerstable.

Now because this was originally a live stream there are some differences from normal episodes. For one thing, the audio quality is lower than our normal shows. That’s because 6 different people, all using their own equipment and without time for corrections, are very difficult to keep level. We’ve done what we can to ensure an enjoyable listening experience. The second big difference is that this episode is not family friendly. While there are few adult themes, the language is an issue if you have young children present. Maybe grab some headphones. Sorry Jason.

This show was produced and hosted by Openly Gamer Theater. If you haven’t checked out the other Actual Plays and Role Play dramas you can find them at gamerstable.com/ogt

And thank you to everyone who watched ETU: Extra Curricular Activities over on the Gamerstable Twitch channel. We had such a fun time that we’re actually scheduling a Part 2 so stay tuned. If you didn’t get a chance to watch live you can catch the VOD on Twitch.tv/gamerstable.

This week I’m excited to say that our guest is Dan Wells. In addition to being a NY Times Bestselling Author and a Hugo award winning podcaster Dan is also the Game Master for Typecast RPG, a D&D 5E Actual Play Twitch Stream where all of the players are also authors. They just started their season two last Tuesday, so it’s a perfect time to jump in.

I have been a fan of Dan’s for a number of years, so you may hear me gushing a little bit. We talked about his Teenage Mutant entry into gaming, his love of board games and I may have hinted that he pick up the new edition of Savage Worlds. Yes yes, I know. I just can’t help myself.

Yes thank you for being here indeed. This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Ron Blessing, a familiar name for many of you Savages out there. Ron is a veteran of the RPG Podcast world, an editor on Torg Eternity, the Community Manager for Pinnacle Entertainment, the host of The Peg Show and Savage Interludes and honestly, if I listed all of his credentials this intro would go on quite a long time.

We talked about Ron’s career in depth, as well as his introduction to Roleplaying Games and what exactly and editor does. We even got to dig into a little bit of Savage Worlds mechanics, just at the end.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, if you choose to celebrate Thanksgiving. Personally I baked a lovely pumpkin pie. I just wanted to let everyone know that the newest episode of We Watch, We Talk; the Patreon exclusive podcast where myself and Amanda watch a movie and talk about it is out now. We have finished The Lord of the Rings and next month’s film will be The Princess Bride.

In light of the holidays that we’ve just wrapped up, we decided to try something a little different this week. Instead of trying to schedule guest around a very busy time of the year we decided to rebroadcast an interview from the first season of Gaming with Gage. This is my chat with James D’Amato, Co-Founder of the One Shot Network and we talked about running different games for different players advice for game designers.

Thanks for being here

Welcome, welcome, welcome to Season Five! We’re so excited to have you here, as we kick off another season of Gaming with Gage. It’s so wonderful to be back and we have some exciting things planned.

First, we’ve launched our very own Patreon so those of you who would like to support the show can! Patrons will get access to an exclusive Discord channel, previews on upcoming projects and our new Patreon exclusive podcast We Watch, We Talk, where Amanda and I watch a movie and then talk about it. I’m told it’s the most creative name in the history of the internet. For our first episode we watched The Fellowship of the Ring and I had some thoughts . You can listen to those, and support the show at https://www.patreon.com/GamingWithGage.

I also have a number of appearances coming up soon including the Gamerstable streaming show Big 20, that hosts a rotating cast of GMs, and the finale of The Marshals Actual Play, with Chris Hussey.

Speaking of Chris Hussey, he’s on this episode! This week we took a deep dive on a sometimes sensitive topic, Rules vs Rulings. We talked about GM responsibility, the importance of communication and trust with your game group, and one of the few rules in Savage Worlds that I don’t like. If you have more thoughts to add to the conversation I’d recommended joining our Discord. It’s the easiest place to yell at me. I mean discuss with me.

And thank you for being here for our Season Finale. Season Four has been an exciting ride with incredible guests, the return of topic episodes and our first trip to GenCon. We hope that next season will be just as engaging and fun. We’ll be back with Season Five on October 28th. If you have suggestions for next season or you just can’t wait that long to interact with us you should join our Discord. We’re currently planning the next Season and that will be the place to find out more.

Also next Season we’re planning on launching our first ever Patreon. We’ve spent nearly two years working on this show and now we’re looking for ways to grow, create and serve in bigger and better ways. Your support on Patreon will help us to do bigger and better things and we thank you all. Before the Patreon launches though, I could use a little help. If you support other shows on Patreon, send me an e-mail at Gage@sgadpod.com and let me know some of your favorite and least favorite rewards you’ve seen.

For the last episode of this Season, Paris Conte of GenU & The Wild Die Podcast came on to talk about his Applied Gaming Program. Paris works with young adults and children as a mental health professional and uses gaming in its many forms to create community. This was an incredible episode, one where you will hear from me very little. I think what Paris is doing is very important and I’m so pleased that I get to share some of that with all of you.

We also put out a call to our listeners to review some of the products they may have picked up through Savage Worlds Adventurer’s Guild. It really does a lot to help us out.

And thank you for the wonderful response to our most recent topic episodes, We’ll be continuing this week with a topic that we previewed in our Discord! The whole cast is there to chat with and answer any questions you might have. It’s also where we do all of our interviews and occasionally run online gaming sessions.

This week, I’m pleased to say, features my wife Amanda Holmes. We chatted about Who’s Agatha?, our Savage Worlds Actual Play from Season Two, and how to get back into character. If you haven’t listened to Who’s Agatha, you can find all of those episodes in this feed starting with Showcase Session One. If you have listened to Who’s Agatha? you’ll be excited to hear that we are planning on coming back to the magical world of Boston this year. Details soon.

This has been a pretty busy week and next week looks even busier so I’m going to keep this intro brief. I had the chance to talk with Dom Zook from the Twitch channel Saving Throw Show. If you don’t know Saving Throw, they host my favorite Twitch Actual Play, Wildcards. Dom shared some of his wisdom when it comes to streaming Tabletop RPGs as well as the dynamic of player personalities at the table.

Also, come see me at Gencon on Thursday or Saturday! You can contact me in our Discord, it’s the best place to reach me.

And thank you so much to everyone who joined me at Fear the Conline last weekend. It was so fun to get to run the adventure from A Savage Guide to Dinosaurs! If you didn’t can’t the chance to join that game, think about joining our Discord, where we run our own games and I generally let people know where and when I’ll be running.

This week’s guest was actually a suggestion from our Discord. Scott Fitzgerald Gray is a wonderful fantasy, sci/fi and RPG writer who’s book The Hidden Halls of Hazakor is designed to be run by young game masters. Personally, I want as many nerds playing these games as young as possible so I was super excited to sit down with Scott and hear his journey creating it.

And thank you so much for your patience this week! Those of you in our Discord already know that I was traveling last week and it really threw off our release schedule. Turns out when you fly with a 14 month old your chances of getting sick are 100%! But better late than never.

This week I had the chance to chat with Chad Wattler of Fear the Boot. While we’ve chatted on Discord and on an episode or two of Gamerstable, this was my first chance to talk with Chad one on one and it was a treat. We talked about how he got into Roleplaying Games and about what keeps him going after all these years. Guys, Fear the Boot’s been out for a long time.

And thank you for joining us for Season 4! Those of you who have been listening for a while know that new seasons are opportunities for us to try new things and this season is no different. We’re bringing back topic episodes! This gives us a chance to have some new and old voices dig into specific gaming areas that we just couldn’t do it our interview/AP format from Season 3. But what about the APs? You ask. We’re still going to be doing them, but probably not as often. What about the finale to Where’s Agatha? You ask on queue. Unfortunately that episode has been delayed due to scheduling, though we will be bringing back Who’s Agatha? this season!

I haven’t been sitting idly by these last two months either. Some of you will have already noticed that I’ve joined GamersTable as a cast member. Not only was GamersTable one of the first RPG podcasts I listened to but Eric Ausley was our very first guest on this show, so this is a very special to me and I hope you all enjoy the show. I’ve also released my first title under the Savage Worlds Adventurers' Guild! A Savage Guide to Dinosaurs features 19 fully statted dinosaurs as well as an original One Sheet called Dino World.

To kick of our Season Premiere I invited Jeremy Puckett, creator of Heroes of Terra, to talk about Savage RIFTS. With the new Savage RIFTS kickstarter finished I wanted to provide a good starting point for people who were interested in the setting but didn’t know where to start. People like me, who knew nothing about it except the word Glitterboy. Jeremy was kind enough to come on the show and educate me.

If you have ideas for topic episodes, the best place to let us know is on our Discord. It’s also where we do all of our interviews and occasionally run online gaming sessions. You can also spy on my current “home” game

And thank you so much for being here for the Finale of Season 3! For those of you keeping score at home, this episode actually makes 17 for the season, our new record. But wait a second Gage, Where’s Agatha? isn’t done, I hear you saying. And yes, we do still have one more episode that will be released as a bonus episode in between seasons 3 and 4. If you can’t wait that long to find out what happens, hop into our Discord and I’ll spoil it for you.

This season has been such a pleasure and I truly appreciate everyone who’s been along for the ride.

And for our finale, I got to speak with Ken Spencer of Why Not Games? We talked about Rocket Age and Weird Races and a lot about Imperial Jupiter, the newest setting book for Rocket Age. You’ll hear me gush a little about Imperial Jupiter in this episode but that’s only because I loved it.

Look forward to Season 4 on Monday, May 20th! If you have any ideas for the upcoming season, people you’d like to hear from or topics you’d like us to discover please let us know.

You can find both our session zero and session 1 on Our Website.

Last session Goathair was visited by an old friend, Jasper, who had a favor to hold over him. The request was simple. Find a woman with only a picture and a name, Agatha. The only complication being that Jasper last met this woman in 1885. After a preliminary investigation, all the clues pointed them to a number of local universities as well as a strange incident on Summer Street. As our heroes “hit the streets” they stumbled upon the last person Goathair would ever want to see, Arethusa Faerie Knight of the Air Kingdom.

Actual Play from last season. You should be seeing the session Zero for the game in your feeds now.

This episode features guest Clint Black, Brand Manager for the Core Rules at Pinnacle Entertainment Group. You’re probably already aware of the insanely successful Kickstarter that Pinnacle wrapped up last month but this interview was recorded before we knew what a wild ride that would be. We focused more on how Clint got into the hobby, his start at Pinnacle and the design philosophy that goes into creating Savage Worlds.

Clint was an amazing guest and we hope to have him back in the future. If you missed out on the Kickstarter, you’re obviously not following us on Facebook, but there’s still hope. And that’s what this is, the Session Zero for Where’s Agatha? If you haven’t listened to Who’s Agatha I wouldn’t worry too much, we’ve worked hard to make this series a connected but independent story. In this Session Zero you’ll hear us working out the kind of story we want to tell as well the characters that Tom and Josh will be playing. Loyal listeners will remember Josh from our first season topic episodes.

Where’s Agatha covers the story of a down and out police detective who gets mixed up with a faerie searching for his sister in the strange and magical land of Boston. This was new recording set-up for us so we ask that you please lend us a little patience as we work it out.

As always we ask that you rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher or wherever you listen.

This week I had the chance to sit down with Dan Repperger of Fear the Boot and it was awesome. We talked about names and the infamous Florida Man for most of the episode. We did get to some gaming topics. Dan’s Skies of Glasses setting is a super rich world and we dived into the way he builds sessions and his incredible session zero.

This is our second to last episode for season 2. It’s crazy to me that we’re already over 30 episodes in. I’m glad everyone seems to be enjoying the show and I’m having a blast doing it. Next week we’ll close out the season just as we did last season, with Who’s Agatha.

This was our second shot at an interview, as I lost the file from the previous chat and I wanted to take the time to thank Tim for being gracious enough to come back on. I also want to apologize for all The Last Jedi love that will now be lost to the annals of the internet.

True fans will remember last season when we had Alex Roberts came on the show to talk about developing Star Crossed and we've been salivating for a chance to play ever since. We love these candles and I was so pleased that Christoff was able to come on the show.

We did have a small audio issue that resulted in the first couple minutes of the show being cut. If it seems like Christoff and I are fast friends in the middle of conversation it’s because of this audio issue and because Christoff is a really cool person.

Thanks for being here.

This week we have a very special episode for you. We’ve received a bit of feedback from listeners who are completely new to gaming and a bit confused about how it works. So to cap out season 1 we decide to actually do some Gaming With Gage. To help us out with what we’re calling our Showcase Episode, we brought back one of our most popular guests, my wife Amanda Verronneau. In this episode you’ll hear us create Amanda’s character, Agatha Nolan, as well as craft the world we’re going to play in, using Pinnacle Entertainment Group’s Savage Worlds. Parts of this episode are cut together like a montage in the interest of time. Next episode, our Season Finale, will be a one session actual play with Amanda and myself. Hopefully this will be entertaining and illuminating for fans new and old.

Just so you know, Amanda was very tired and very pregnant when we recorded this. I’m so thankful to have a partner who, at 9 months pregnant and at the end of a full work week, was still willing to sit down and have play time with me. I love you Amanda and thank you.

I wanted to take a moment to apologize for the lack of episode last week. We did record an episode but when we started editing we realize that we were missing the guest half of the recording. Unfortunately, I was out of town on business and time ran out. This was a freak accident and will not be the norm.
