These are the words Garry refers to near the end of today’s message that he shared with a friend whose mother had been recently diagnosed with cancer:
Cancer is so limited . . . it cannot cripple love, it cannot shatter hope, it cannot corrode faith, it cannot eat away peace, it cannot destroy confidence, it cannot kill friendship, it cannot shut out memories, it cannot silence courage, it cannot invade the soul, it cannot reduce eternal life, it cannot quench the Spirit, it cannot lessen the power of the resurrection.

If you read through the first four books of the New Testament, you’ll learn that Jesus taught that faith which leads to a better life is not simply a matter of believing the right set of religious facts or information. He taught that life changing faith is about taking what you believe to be true about life and about God and APPLYING it to our daily circumstances. In this series, we are going to be looking at some key truths from the Bible that, when applied, can actually make a difference in our lives.

Over-worked. Over-stressed. Over-needed. Over-scheduled. We are expected to live a certain kind of lifestyle, own the right things, have it all together. At some point, it’s just too much. We get overwhelmed. So what can we do? How do we step back from these demands? How do we ground ourselves in something other than other people’s expectations? Those are some of the questions we’re going to explore so we can cope when we’re feeling Overwhelmed.

One of the main teachings Jesus has for those who follow him is that they are called to love their neighbours. Which raises the question - who is my neighbour? It’s a great question and the answer just might surprise you!
Pastor and theologian Charles Spurgeon once said, “It is beyond the realm of possibilities that one has the ability to out give God.”
Today we are going to hear as Peter Sinclair, the director of Nanaimo’s local food bank Loaves & Fishes shares how he sees this reality play out everyday. It truly is remarkable to see and hear how it really is impossible to out give God.
What's in a name?
The simple truth is there is a lot in a name. Just think about it. Parents agonize over the names of their children; it is not a simple casual decision. Some of you were named after some famous person or a beloved member of your family. There is something significant behind your name.
The same is true for the many names of God found in the Bible. Provider, Sustainer, Anchor, Rock and many more, each name of God holds deep significance about an aspect of what He is like.
For the next few weeks we’re going to hear from people who call this place home, about their personal experience with the God who created us has revealed a specific aspect of God and His associated name.

What makes a good movie? Is it special effects? Great car chases? Talking racoons? Special effects with talking racoons in car chases?
A good movie makes you lose yourself in the story. You get an escape from the daily grind if only for while.
But a great movie? A great movie is one that you and your friends end up talking about, debating the meaning of different scenes while driving in the car or standing around the water cooler. A great movie is one that raises questions, makes you wonder, that sits in the back of your mind long after the credits roll.
For the next few weeks we’re going to look at some movies and try to grasp what it is about their stories that touch us at such a deep level. And more than that, we’re going to learn that the stories in these films touch us because they touch on the larger story that God has written and called each of us to be a part of in this world.

Every car has a way of letting the driver know if something is wrong. There are dials, gauges and lights that let us know how the engine is running. If ignored it can lead to costly repairs or worse, yet we often ignore these warnings.
Our hearts operate in a similar fashion and all too often we don’t pay attention to the gauges and dials in our lives that alert us when things aren’t operating the way they should. In this series we’re going to explore some simple ways that will help us last over the long haul.

Your life is a story, a series of moments that show where you have been, that highlight who you are and what will define your next chapter.
Glenn's story is a story of peaks and valleys, light and dark, hopelessness and hope because through it all God was there. The one thing Glenn hopes is clear, is that no matter where you are in your story, no matter what you’ve done or what’s been done to you, God is there with His arms wide open waiting to embrace you and walk with you.

That’s the question we’ll be exploring.

You know that feeling when you walk from darkness into light? When you turn on the bathroom light first thing in the morning, when you step from a dark movie theatre into the sunshine?
It's uncomfortable at first because light totally invades and overwhelms darkness.
In reality there is no such thing as dark, only the absence of light. In the Bible, John describes Jesus as the light that shines in the darkness that cannot be overcome. Jesus described Himself as the light of the world. Could it be that the birth of Jesus was more than just a silent night, but an invasion of light and hope into a world suffering from the absence of light

All of us at some point face decisions that can affect the direction of our life. Decisions like: Should I buy this? Sell that? Should I say yes or no to her to him or to that new opportunity or job?
Or like the lyrics from the band the Clash say, Should I stay or should I go?
Sometimes what we decide can embarrass us, harm, scar us and leave us looking back in regret.
But what if there was something we could do that could help us avoid making regretful decisions?
What if that something was a simple question? A question that would clarify your best option for ninety percent of the decisions you make in life—a question that answers just about everything? That’s what we’ll be exploring in this series.
All of us at some point face decisions that can affect the direction of our life. Decisions like: Should I buy this? Sell that? Should I say yes or no to her to him or to that new opportunity or job?

We love stories about people who have been imprisoned being set free, people who were enslaved being delivered and people who were condemned being released. God has been writing the ultimate story of redemption and we are a part of it.

It’s the time of year when we pause to remember all that we have and be thankful and we have lots to be thankful for. But it seems as though being thankful isn’t something that comes naturally to us. If you have children you know this. What’s the one thing you’re always teaching and saying to your kids? “Remember to say…’thank you’.
It seems being thankful is a learned behaviour. And like anything we learn if we don’t continually practice them we begin to forget how to do whatever it is we learned. Being thankful is something we need to intentionally and continually practice.
So here’s the big question: why don’t we? That’s the question we’re going to explore today.
All of us have a picture, a plan of how we would like our life to turn out. Much like our drive to work or school we have it all mapped out. We know where we’re headed and how we’re going to get there but then something unexpected happens. The road is blocked. We blow a tire, run a red light, take a corner too fast. Life didn’t go as planned and now you are here.
The question is: Now What? That’s the question we’re going to explore and we’re glad You Are Here!

As long as it has been around, people have turned to the Bible to address the problems and anxieties of life. We look to it for comfort, encouragement, enlightenment or to simply learn more about God and what He is like.
Even though there are over 31 thousand verses in the Bible people often have that one “favourite” verse that holds a special place in their heart. Words that brought comfort and encouragement and hope during a difficult time. Words that reminded them that no matter what they’ve done or not done, no matter what’s been done to them they are unconditionally loved and accepted by God. Our hope is that over the next few weeks you will be encouraged as people share their Faves.

Probably the most famous quote on freedom in the English language is the one by Jean Rousseau who famously wrote: ‘man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains.’
Yet the Bible says that Jesus came to set us "free" from the things that can lock us up - things like labels, our past, bitterness and fear.
Locked up is a series about freedom.
A series about choices.
A series about transforming your life.

Your life is a story, a series of moments that show where you have been, that highlight who you are and what will define your next chapter.
Graham’s story is a story of peaks and valleys, light and dark, hopelessness and hope because through it all God was there. The one thing Graham hopes is clear, is that no matter where you are in your story, no matter what you’ve done or what’s been done to you, God is there with His arms wide open waiting to embrace you and walk with you.

There are a lot of things in life calling us to ‘say yes’: every ad, commercial, billboard reaches out asking us that question. All around us, organizations, teams, groups, events and opportunities, each of them calling us to say yes.
Saying ‘yes’ to service of others is one of the most powerful ways to transform our lives. When you help someone climb a mountain, you both end up at the top. But where can you find the strength to serve and experience the best life has to offer?
