On this week's episode, D-man and CP are talking about Barbenheimer, or at least the part that they still need to discuss - Barbie. But before they get into that, at the audience's request, they talk a little more about Artificial Intelligence and its role in the Hollywood Strikes. What are the positions of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA regarding AI, and how have the studios responded to those demands? Then the guys talk about Barbie - Dman loved it, and CP hated it. Are you shocked by that? Finally, Francis Ford Coppola believes Barbenheimer is heralding in a new 'Golden Era of Cinema", the guys discuss.
D-Man and CP were at San Diego ComiCon, were you? Before they get into that, they discuss the big Social Media shake-up. Twitter has become "X". what exactly does that mean, and will we still be "tweeting?" Next, the guys recap their ComiCon trip. Finally, Christopher Nolans Oppenheimer was released, so they guys jump right into the film - spoilers and all.
In this week's Episode, Dman and CP discuss the newly released film, Missions Impossible Dead Reckoning: Part 1. Then they talk about the upcoming San Diego ComiCon 2023, which will likely look very different due to the SAG-AFTRA/WGA strikes. Speaking of Strikes - both unions are on strike, but the producers are ready to hold out. How are thing shaping up, and given the recent comments by people like Bob Iger, how long could this last?
On this Weeks episode, D-Man and CP are talking about some of the biggest movies of the summer. Everything from small-scale films like Sound of Freedom to the new Mission Impossible. What made Sound of Freedom such a surprise hit, and was the call to action behind the film the reason? Then, CP talks about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. What did he think, and what about the future of Kathleen Kennedy at Lucasfilm? Finally, the guys talk about the upcoming Missions Impossible: Dead Reckoning Park 1 and decide on the greatest Missions Impossible Stunt to date.

Alright…here we go. This week on Total Rewind we look back at a forgotten movie that many of us probably haven’t seen…Arena. A sci-fi battle that leaves a lot to be desired. From the story and characters to music and effects we ask the simple question…does it hold up?
Movie Remake Time! returns and continuing with the still lively discussion around Batman we are taking a look at the campier side of things with Batman Forever vs Batman & Robin. It’s Joel Schumacher’s vision as he unleashes Val Kilmer vs George Clooney and introduces Robin and Batgirl to the big screen. From the zany villains, bright color palette, and cool toys we ask the question….who did it better!?
In anticipation of new Matt Reeves directed “The Batman” we decided to take a look at the classic that started it all, Tim Burton’s 1989 film starring Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton…Batman. This film introduced a lot to the comic book film genre and established Batman as the hero we know today. For many this is still the definitive film adaptation of Batman. But as always, we ask the question…does it still hold up?
Movie Remake Time! returns this week as we take a look at original Sly 90s action film and the 2012 reboot Judge Dredd. While one brings the campy fun and 90s action film effects the other brings blood soaked violence and a more true to the comic visual style. The question is…who did it better!?

Nickolas Gilbert is a Writer/Director/Producer based in Los Angeles, California. He has worked in the film business for over twenty years in both the camera and art departments, as well as writing, producing and directing his own projects. He has worked in the camera department on major feature films such as Oz the Great & Powerful and Red Dawn and network television shows such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Strange Angel.
Following his passion to mentor the next generation of filmmakers to good story, well told, he teaches filmmaking workshops at the Studio School in Los Angeles and with the Curacao Film Institute in the Dutch Antilles.
In his creative work, he is concentrating on bringing his own projects to fruition through Distortion Field, his development and production company. He has several feature length screenplays circulating the spec market, usually has a short film on the festival circuit and can often be found developing and writing new stories. He holds an MFA in screenwriting from Maine Media College and is a member of the International Cinematographer's Guild and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Harrison is a native of Hurricane, West Virginia and graduated from the University of Virginia with degrees in Psychology and Business. He began his entertainment career at United Talent Agency in the mailroom, then as a television development executive at Entertainment One, where he worked on many scripted series (i.e., Hung, Hell on Wheels) and sold original projects.
He currently lives in Los Angeles as a writer, director, and producer. In 2018, he partnered with fellow artist, cinematographer, editor and producer, Atom Jones, to forge their first filmmaking efforts with their short films "Dad's BS" and the grant-funded "Crosswinds". They are currently in post-production on their third short film collaboration.
In this Episode, we will discuss: - Dropping out of film school to go make films. - How to tell your parents you are moving to Los Angeles to make movies. - Finding work when you make that move. - How to get into Central Casting and work as an extra. - Submitting your short films to festivals and is it worth it or not? - We also discuss the best first date movie.

Welcome to the second episode of the Filmmaker’s Compass podcast! So proud to announce our first guest and friend, Curt Chatham. Curt had to learn producing the old-fashioned way - actually working in the field. After moving to Los Angeles in 2003 from Georgia where he grew up, Curt started working on small budget films to learn all he could. From there he worked his way up through the ranks from a production assistant to being a Producer. After honing his production skills in both scripted and live television, commercials, and films Curt put his expertise to work at The American Film Institute Conservatory helping oversee the production of student films. Upon leaving AFI Curt embarked down the path of being a full-fledged Producer. His first feature film, Other Halves, is currently available on Amazon Prime, while his latest feature film, Big Life, is currently in post-production.
