Sin will take you further than you wanted to go, keep longer than you wanted to stay, and cost you more than you wanted to pay.
God could remove them from slavery, but could not remove slavery from their hearts.

Matthew 2.1-12 TPT - Jesus was born in Bethlehem near Jerusalem during the reign of King Herod. After Jesus’ birth a group of spiritual priests (Magi, wise men, astronomers, astrologers) from the East came to Jerusalem 2 and inquired of the people, “Where is the child who is born king of the Jewish people? We observed his star rising in the sky and we’ve come to bow before him in worship.”
3 King Herod was shaken to the core when he heard this, and not only him, but all of Jerusalem was disturbed when they heard this news. 4 So he called a meeting of the Jewish ruling priests and religious scholars, demanding that they tell him where the promised Messiah was prophesied to be born.
5 “He will be born in Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,” they told him. “Because the prophecy states:
6 And you, little Bethlehem, are not insignificant among the clans of Judah, for out of you will emerge the Shepherd-King of my people Israel!”
7 Then Herod secretly summoned the spiritual priests from the East to ascertain the exact time the star first appeared. 8 And he told them, “Now go to Bethlehem and carefully look there for the child, and when you’ve found him, report to me so that I can go and bow down and worship him too.”
9 And so they left, and on their way to Bethlehem, suddenly the same star they had seen in the East reappeared! Amazed, they watched as it went ahead of them and stopped directly over the place where the child was. 10 And when they saw the star, they were so ecstatic that they shouted and celebrated with unrestrained joy. 11 When they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, they were overcome. Falling to the ground at his feet they worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure boxes full of gifts and presented him with gold, frank-incense, and myrrh. 12 Afterward they returned to their own country by another route because God had warned them in a dream not to go back to Herod.

1. Why The Star?
Stars were a big part of their life!
The wise men and their entourage of 100 people were willing to put their entire lives on hold and travel somewhere between 700 & 1000 miles one-way on horseback, to find who they believed to be the King of all kings and that this encounter would be totally worth bringing the treasure of all treasures… Huge chests full of gold, frankincense, and myrrh and this encounter was believed to literally change their lives forever.
Numbers 24.17 MSG - Decree of Balaam son of Beor, decree of the man with 20/20 vision, Decree of the man who hears godly speech, who knows what’s going on with the High God … I see him, but not right now, I perceive him, but not right here; A star rises from Jacob a scepter from Israel, Crushing the heads of Moab….

Isaiah says - A virgin shall conceive and bring forth a son and you shall call his name wonderful, counselor, mighty God, the prince of peace… there shall be no end to the wholeness He brings
How Christmas was prophesied and God would literally “stop sin in the flesh” in Genesis 3
How every Christmas we learn something new about the birth of Jesus.
Micah 4.8 EXB - And you, ·watchtower of the flocks (Migdal-eder), hill of Jerusalem Daughter of Zion, to you will come the kingdom, dominion will be restored as in the past. Jerusalem Daughter Jerusalem, the ·right to rule will come again to you.”

And there was the baby, lying in a feeding trough. 17 Upon seeing this miraculous sign, the shepherds recounted what had just happened. 18 Everyone who heard the shepherds’ story was astonished by what they were told.
5. Tell Somebody
How did the joy start? The story was told!

Genesis 37:19-28 (NIV) “Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other. 20 “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.”
21 When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. “Let’s not take his life,” he said. 22 “Don’t shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.
23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the ornate robe he was wearing— 24 and they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it.
25 As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were loaded with spices, balm and myrrh, and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt.
26 Judah said to his brothers, “What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? 27 Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood.” His brothers agreed.
28 So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.
V 20-23 But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
1. What if this holding pattern is maturing me?
Just because you have a dream doesn’t mean it’s time to live that dream. Dreams, like everything else that live, require a growing period and a birth.
There’s power in the process of staying connected to the tree until it’s time to be picked.
Luke 5:36-39 He also told them a parable: “No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and puts it on an old one; otherwise he will both tear the new and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new fermenting wine will expand and burst the skins and it will be spilled out and the skins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins.”
2. What if it’s not safe to land yet?
God doesn’t want you just moved out of where you are.
He also wants your heart to be changed in the meantime.
3. Am I stuck or just impatient?
Matthew 24:36 (NLT) “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.
Don’t make a permanent decision in a place of temporary pain!
2 Timothy 2:11-12 (NLT) 11 And God chose me to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of this Good News. That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.
4. What can I do while I’m stuck here?
Genesis 40 14 And please remember me and do me a favor when things go well for you. Mention me to Pharaoh, so he might let me out of this place. 15 For I was kidnapped from my homeland, the land of the Hebrews, and now I’m here in prison, but I did nothing to deserve it.”
V 20- 23 Pharaoh’s birthday came three days later, and he prepared a banquet for all his officials and staff. He summoned his chief cup-bearer and chief baker to join the other officials. 21 He then restored the chief cup-bearer to his former position, so he could again hand Pharaoh his cup. 22 But Pharaoh impaled the chief baker, just as Joseph had predicted when he interpreted his dream. 23 Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer, however, forgot all about Joseph, never giving him another thought.
Proverbs 18:16 (NLT) Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people!
Your gift can open your prison door!
Romans 11:29 (NLT) For God’s gifts and His call can never be withdrawn.
You may feel forgotten by humans. Joseph was also forgotten by them. But God NEVER forgot Joseph. And He hasn’t forgotten you.
5. What if you’ve been positioned for this time?
We want to be the Biblical faith giant without the Biblical sized sacrifice they had to make to get there.
V 37-44 37 Joseph’s suggestions were well received by Pharaoh and his officials. 38 So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?” 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. 40 You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.”
41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt.” 42 Then Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and placed it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in fine linen clothing and hung a gold chain around his neck. 43 Then he had Joseph ride in the chariot reserved for his second-in-command. And wherever Joseph went, the command was shouted, “Kneel down!” So Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of all Egypt. 44 And Pharaoh said to him, “I am Pharaoh, but no one will lift a hand or foot in the entire land of Egypt without your approval.”
V 53-57 At last the seven years of bumper crops throughout the land of Egypt came to an end. 54 Then the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had predicted. The famine also struck all the surrounding countries, but throughout Egypt there was plenty of food. 55 Eventually, however, the famine spread throughout the land of Egypt as well. And when the people cried out to Pharaoh for food, he told them, “Go to Joseph, and do whatever he tells you.” 56 So with severe famine everywhere, Joseph opened up the storehouses and distributed grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout the land of Egypt. 57 And people from all around came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph because the famine was severe throughout the world.
45:1-8 Joseph could stand it no longer. There were many people in the room, and he said to his attendants, “Out, all of you!” So he was alone with his brothers when he told them who he was. 2 Then he broke down and wept. He wept so loudly the Egyptians could hear him, and word of it quickly carried to Pharaoh’s palace.
3 “I am Joseph!” he said to his brothers. “Is my father still alive?” But his brothers were speechless! They were stunned to realize that Joseph was standing there in front of them. 4 “Please, come closer,” he said to them. So they came closer. And he said again, “I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into slavery in Egypt. 5 But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives. 6 This famine that has ravaged the land for two years will last five more years, and there will be neither plowing nor harvesting. 7 God has sent me ahead of you to keep you and your families alive and to preserve many survivors. 8 So it was God who sent me here, not you! And he is the one who made me an adviser to Pharaoh—the manager of his entire palace and the governor of all Egypt
What if what you’re going through isn’t a setback, but a set UP?
“God has sent me ahead of you to keep you and your families alive and to preserve so many survivors.”
You might be waiting. But God isn’t waiting. He is moving and He is working.

So then faith that doesn’t involve action is phony…… So faith without the expression of good works is dead!

1. We were all born with a God-given desire to “Go and Tell”
Matthew 4.19 msg… “Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.” They didn’t ask questions, but simply dropped their nets and followed.
All of us may not be called to stand on a platform or in front of people but all of us are called to preach in some way, to speak hope to the hopeless …to affect people for eternity …. In the same way that we have been changed.
Why do Christian people have to be reminded … stirred.. trained… poked … prodded…. and even threatened … to go and tell others about the good news?
2. Is the good news really good enough? Is the goodness God really good enough?
Luke 4.18-19 TPT - “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, and he has anointed me to be hope for the poor, freedom for the brokenhearted, and new eyes for the blind, and to preach to prisoners, ‘You are set free!’ I have come to share the message of Jubilee, for the time of God’s great acceptance has begun.”
Amplified v19 - To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound.
2 Corinthians 5.17-21 TPT - Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. 3. The Gospel Must Be Embraced
Romans 1.16 TPT - I refuse to be ashamed of sharing the wonderful message of God’s liberating power unleashed in us through Christ! For I am thrilled to preach that everyone who believes is saved—the Jew first, and then people everywhere! 17 This gospel unveils a continual revelation of God’s righteousness—a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith, to the power of living by faith.
How? Because when you believe Jesus paid the price for and conquered whatever is trying to destroy you… freedom starts!
When Martin Luther discovered “faith righteousness” according Galatians 3.11… The just shall live by faith… it was as if he went down into the cellar of the Holy Spirit and drank grace 200 proof.
Martin Luther taught three main things
People could only be saved by faith in God’s free gift of forgiveness through Jesus Christ and not good works.
Christian teachings should be based on the Bible and not church traditions.
All people with faith in Jesus were equal so people do not need priests to interpret the Bible for them or forgive their sins.
Jesus said… It is His Word that is Spirit and it is life and His Word will rescue people, His Word will heal people, His Word will set people free, His Word sanctifies people, and His Word directs your life!
Mark 4.14 TPT - Let me explain: The farmer sows the Word as seed, 15 and what falls on the beaten path represents those who hear the Word, but immediately satan appears and snatches it from their hearts. 16 The seed sown on gravel represents those who hear the Word and receive it joyfully, 17 but because their hearts fail to sink a deep root into the Word, they don’t endure for long. A Sacrifice of Praise
Sacrifice- giving up something I value for something I value more.
Sacrifice- (Greek word “thusia”) a verb meaning to kill or slaughter for a purpose.
1. Praise and worship are external shows of an inward work.
Romans 12:1 (NLT) And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
KJV- “present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

We don’t praise God because of who we are.
We praise Him because of who HE is.

It’s time to sacrifice/slaughter those religious ideas and paradigms that have had you convinced the effects of your choices are greater than God’s love for you.
2. A sacrifice of praise is a conquering of self.
Luke 9:23 (NLT) Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.
Romans 6:6-7 (MSG) Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer at sin’s every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection.

4. A sacrifice of praise turns pain into worship.
God has always given you the resources to be the victor instead of the victim.
And one of the greatest weapons we have to change hopelessness into hopefulness is PRAISE!
Psalm 30:11-12 (TPT) Then he broke through and transformed all my wailing into a whirling dance of ecstatic praise! He has torn the veil and lifted from me the sad heaviness of mourning. He wrapped me in the glory garments of gladness. How could I be silent when it’s time to praise you? Now my heart sings out loud, bursting with joy— a bliss inside that keeps me singing, “I can never thank you enough!”
