This One Church Christmas Celebration message sees James unpack the eternal theme of the Christmas story with a spoken word preach - it’s short but it’s packed with magnificent truth!
Last Sunday, at our fabulous carol services, we focused on the topic of the joy in the Christmas story and how we can know this in everyday life.
Last week, we had three different people speaking at each meeting on the topic of Advent; they spoke on themes of waiting, repentance and proclamation.
For our One Church Celebration last Sunday, James preached on how God’s blessings are intended to create people with an outward-oriented, missional impulse (Gen.12:1-3). This Psalm includes the Aaronic blessing (Num.6:22-27) but attaches a purpose clause to it (Ps.67:2) that forms a prayer for evangelistic success to the ends of the earth.
Last Sunday, Nick preached on Jonah 4, exploring the scandal of God’s mercy and how it challenges our sense of who deserves compassion. Jonah’s reaction exposes our tendency to limit grace, while God’s sovereignty invites us to live with open-handed mercy and faithful obedience.
Last Sunday, Siji continued our series in Jonah as we looked at Jonah 3:1–10 - Jonah’s second chance, his five-word warning, and Nineveh’s remarkable repentance. Redigging the Well: Worship Part 3Worship has always been central to God’s people, from the songs of Israel to the praises of the early church. In this sermon we explore why charismatic, corporate worship is part of New Community’s DNA, how it shapes us as individuals and as the Body, and why it’s a vital reason behind our call to multiply. Rooted in Scripture and our story—from the Charismatic Renewal to today—we reflect on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the blessings of worshipping together, and how Paul challenges consumeristic views of faith.
Redigging the Well: Worship Part 1This is a big picture overview of why we worship. It’s based on who God is and also as a response to what He has done. It’s also the beginning and end goal of humanity - intimacy with God. As a result, it’s also an invitation into greater intimacy with God that requires us to humble ourselves and say that we aren’t the God of our lives. However, the blessing of this is that as we draw near to Him, He promises to draw near to us.
Victoria continues the Gospel x Disney Series with Encanto, showing how the divided family finds healing when they accept each other’s differences and work together in love. She links this to the Gospel: though we were sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8), and now we’re being built together to grow and support one another, each playing a part in the body of Christ.
Redigging the Well: Worship Part 2 Last Sunday, Joe continued our Worship series, exploring Corporate Worship Pt 1 — how the Spirit gives us gifts to share so that together we can build one another up and point to Jesus. Worship isn’t something we do alone, but something we get to experience as family.

Join James in living by faith, not by sight, means trusting in God’s promises and His unseen purposes, even when circumstances seem uncertain.
At our One Church Celebration we shared some exciting announcements about the future in our journey of multiplication.
Are you part of the crowd or are you a disciple of Jesus? Crowds seek gifts but disciples seek the giver. This week we look at John Chapter 6 and the way in which crowds and gifts are good starting points but bad places to end.
In part 2 of our Multiply series James explores what success, ambition and health look like for us as the people of God.
Jesus says “Follow me”. John says “Follow the lamb wherever he goes” (Rev 14:4). Following is crucial in the Christian life. When Jesus calls us, we follow. Matthew 8:18-27 gives us a picture of what it is to follow Jesus. Ultimately, being with Jesus we cannot go wrong, no matter how contradictory and unsettling things may appear to be. This talk sets the stage for all the multiplication moves we will make in 2025; following Jesus is the priority and will be worth it in the end.
Last Sunday at our 10:30 Sidcup service, Reuben interviewed our Guest Anita from IJM. It was so encouraging hearing Anita and about her role within IJM.
Luke has moved John off the stage and now turns his attention to Jesus. Jesus’ public ministry commences with his baptism, where he is anointed by the Spirit for ministry. The divine voice identifies Jesus as God’s beloved Son and as the servant of the Lord. Luke then turns to Jesus’ genealogy, tracing Jesus back to David through Nathan instead of Solomon. This is almost certainly his biological genealogy. Matthew traces Jesus back to Abraham, but Luke goes back to Adam. Indeed, he goes one step further, tracing Jesus all the way back to God himself. Thus in both baptism and genealogy Luke identifies Jesus as God’s Son.
A standalone preach. Dave focuses on what it means for our story as Christians when we follow Jesus.
John’s ministry raises questions about whether he is the Messiah, but John has not claimed such an honor for himself, insisting he is unworthy to untie the sandals of the one to come, the one who will immerse people with the Spirit and fire. The day of judgment is compared to threshing done outside; the wheat (those who are good) will be gathered into the barn, while the chaff will be burned in a fire that will never end. Luke goes on to tell us how John preaches and proclaims the good news to Israel. Still, the ministry of the Baptist comes to an end after he rebukes Herod Antipas for marrying Herodias, the wife of Philip. Herod proceeds to put John in prison for criticizing his behavior. With the Baptist off the scene, the ministry of Jesus is ready to commence.
John warns the crowds coming out to him, proclaiming that they will escape the wrath to come only if they bear fruit worthy of repentance. Simply being a child of Abraham will not shield Israel from the coming judgement. When the crowds ask John how they should respond, he gives practical advice. Those who turn to the Lord are generous with what they own, sharing food and clothing with those who are in need. Similarly, tax collectors should not extort money or skim some off the top for themselves, but should collect only what is mandated. Soldiers must also desist from extortion and be content with the pay they have received.

Chapters 1-2 have prepared us for the ministry of John the Baptist and Jesus, and now the ministry of John is launched with God’s word coming to him in the wilderness. John is in the wilderness on the other side of the Jordan, just as Israel was in the wilderness before entering the Land of Promise. Before the promises would be realized Israel had to be cleansed of its sin and to turn afresh to God. John appropriates Isaiah 40:3–5 to explain his ministry. He is the voice in the wilderness, preparing the Lord’s way. All will see God’s salvation when they humble themselves before him.
Dave dives into what it looks like as Christians to look and focus on both the past and the future.
This Sunday we were joined by Tarn Bright, Co-CEO of Home for Good and Safe Families. God cares about every part of our lives.

A little bit of New Com life with guests, views and news. All wrapped up and ready to go. Happy Listening.
It's reckoned that an adult makes over 35 000 decisions every single day. Each one of these has consequences: wearing a coat, eating pizza or pasta, or those that reach into eternity.
What's your decision?
In this final chapter of 2 Timothy, Paul charges Timothy 'in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead.' Jesus is coming again; how do your decisions reflect this?
This talk, from Sunday 26th February 2016, concludes our 2 Timothy series.
We constantly have voices speaking into our lives - advertising is everywhere, social media, the news, friends and family all influence and persuade us.
And the most dangerous place you can be in is thinking that it's not going to affect you.
What voice are you listening to?
In this sermon on 2 Timothy 3, Jon challenges us to make sure that the voice we primarily listen to is the Word of God.
This talk, from Sunday 19th February 2017, is part of our 2 Timothy series.
After instructing Timothy to guard the deposit in Chapter 1, Paul now instructs him to be able to pass it on.
Paul pulls no punches in Chapter 2 of his letter to Timothy; he openly recognises that the reality of being a Christian is one marked with sharing in suffering.
But Paul gives Timothy, and us, help as to how we can keep on going in the faith. He shares three pictures of how the Christian ought to be dedicated like a soldier, trained like an athlete and hard-working like a farmer.
This talk, from Sunday 12th February 2017, is part of our 2 Timothy series.
Do you know that God has invested heavily into you? He's placed the Gospel, the Holy Spirit and values that it is our responsibility to guard, keep, nurture and even hand over.

This talk, from Sunday 5th February 2017, is part of our 2 Timothy series.
What does it look like for a Christian to have a heart for the poor? What does God's heart look like?
All around us we see a narrative about the 'poor'. A myth that there could be such a thing as someone underserving of mercy and help. But for Jesus, there was no such thing.
We were blessed to have Natalie Williams from King's Church Hastings and Jubilee Plus, the co-author of "The Myth of the Underserving Poor", with us on Sunday sharing some of her lessons on what it takes to have a heart for the poor.
This talk, from Sunday 29th Feb, is a guest talk.
We live in a world where fear is all around us. Yet the Jesus we see in the pages of the Gospels speaks boldness and encouragement over His disciples.
It was a great privilege to have John Lanferman, who oversees Newfrontiers USA, speaking to us on Sunday in this powerful message challenging us to be unafraid of being bold for Jesus.
This talk is from Sunday 22nd January 2017.
Who do you say Jesus is?
It's a simple question, but one of incredible significance.
We were privileged to have Steve Clifford, General Director of the Evangelical Alliance, with us on Sunday to challenge us on this vital question.
Steve looked at how knowing who Jesus really was, and the truth that He rose from the dead, changes everything and inspires us in our tasks as bold witnesses to the world.
This talk, from Sunday 15th January 2017, is part of our Guest Speaker series kicking off 2017.
As we start 2017, it's clear that 2016 was a tumultuous year for all of us. With significant political upheaval, tragedies and deaths, it's easy to feel as if things are spiralling out of control.
But, God carries us.
This is good news for all of us; God carries the world, carries the Church and carries you.
This talk, from Sunday 8th January 2017 is a stand-alone talk.

So often we look at the outward appearance of a person. What they look like, how they act, how they speak and present themselves.
Yet throughout the Bible, God reveals that He's far more interested in a person's heart.
In this talk, Dave looks at how God wants to change us and transform our hearts. He promises that when you become a Christian, He deals with the root problem - our hearts, and is constantly working in us.

Money.
We all need it, and all have to use it to get by. It's a huge source of discomfort and difficulty, yet a real blessing as well.
How do we think about money well?
In this talk, James looks at what Jesus says about money; how it's not evil in itself, but can result in all kinds of evils. Instead, he urges us to be a people marked by wisdom and generosity; prioritising the giver rather than the gift.
This talk, from Sunday 27th November 2016, is part of our "An Honest Conversation about..." series.

Yet the reality is that all of us wield power through the people that we influence. In this talk, Tim has an honest conversation about power. He looks at God's power, our power, but also God's power inside of us.
This talk, from Sunday 13th November 2016, is part of our 'An Honest Conversation about...' series.
On Sunday we celebrated #AdoptionSunday with hundreds of churches around the country, celebrating the work of Home for Good and profiling how Adoption and Foster care are pressing issues that the church can play its part in.
In this talk, Dave looks at how physical adoption is a picture of a far bigger truth; God is a Father who loves us enough to send His Son so that we can be adopted as His sons and daughters.
Knowing God as Father changes everything and so knowing this truth is crucial for a Christian.
This talk, from Sunday 6th November, is a stand-alone talk as a part of our Adoption Sunday celebrations. You can find more about Home for Good on their website: http://homeforgood.org.uk/. When it comes to Biblical sexual ethics we often focus more on the commands than on the one who gives them.
In this talk, James looks at how Jesus gives teaching on the topic of sex, and what He says about us.
This talk, from Sunday 30th October, is part of our 'An Honest Conversation about' series.
Sex is undoubtedly a huge topic in the world today.
And to many, the traditional Christian view of sex and marriage seems old-fashioned, and even wrong.
But what does Jesus really say about the topic of sex?
In this talk, James starts an honest conversation about sex, looking at what the Bible really says about sex and marriage, and asks the question as to whether we've fully understood the Good News of Jesus.
This talk, from Sunday 23rd October 2016, is part of our 'An Honest Conversation about...' series.
The Victorians thought about death a lot, but not that much about sex.
As a culture; we're the opposite. We have a weird relationship where we don't talk about death at all - we get offended and upset by it.
This results in an unease and an unknown about death.
But Jesus speaks a lot into the topic of death.
In this talk, Dave has an honest conversation about death. He recognises that two of the biggest questions we ask are 'What happens when I die?' and 'Can I know now?'
This talk, from Sunday 16th October 2016, is part of our 'An Honest Conversation about...'
Life: what's it all about?
In this talk, James opens our series, 'An Honest Conversation about...' and asks what does it mean to have a meaningful life?
How do we gain fulfilment and satisfaction? What is it that provides us with joy, contentment and basically, 'enough'?
This talk is from Sunday 9th October 2016.
When you read the book of Acts, you see remarkable events happening around ordinary people's lives. You see the supernatural happening almost naturally and lives being transformed left, right and centre.
It's remarkable. And there can be a part of us that asks 'why doesn't that happen now?', or 'how can I get some of that?'
In this talk, James takes the opportunity to discuss how we team with Holy Spirit. He looks at some of the ways in which cynicism can harm us, or our ways of thinking can be a hinderance.
This talk, from Sunday 2nd October 2016, is a one-off talk.
His life was remarkable, his teachings and attitudes were profound and full of truth but it was his death that changed history.
But why did Jesus die?
In this talk, from a couple of years ago, Hannah looks at the problem of sin and why it is such a big deal, what it means to say that Jesus “died for our sins” and what Jesus dying on the cross actually did for us.
(The audio file starts with a vox pox video asking people “why did Jesus die?”)
If you're a Christian, you're a witness (Acts 1:8); the choice you have is what sort of witness you're going to be.
As God's witnesses we want to actively seek ways in which we practically demonstrate the Gospel. Both globally through partnering with Compassion, IJM, Home for Good, and locally in family centres, debt advice, and food banks.
But we also need to verbally proclaim the Gospel to those who are on a path away from God.
In this final part of our Step into the Story series, James looks at why we have to be concerned with sharing the Gospel with our non-Christian friends, colleagues and neighbours.
This talk, from Sunday 25th September 2016, is the final part of our Step into the Story series.
Like the military general who is unwilling to fight, there's one task for the Christian that if she or he is unwilling to do, it's all a bit redundant.
And that's making disciples and being in community.
James invites you to start living the Story in community. As soon as you put your trust in Jesus, you became a disciple.
The question is: are you going to commit to being a disciple?
Being a Christian is being part of a people; God's people and Christ's bride - the Church in family.
It might be messy, and we might get it wrong, but God has called us to be a community of brothers and sisters representing Him on earth.
You can sign up to be a part of a community through our website: http://newcommunitychurch.org.uk/#/community/communities
This talk, from Sunday 18th September, is part of our Step into the Story series.
We believe that there's a great big Story of God.
A Story that reaches from before the world began until Jesus comes again.
But we also believe that God invites us to step into that Story and play our part in advancing His Kingdom, building community, and transforming lives.
James invites you to take your step into the Story.
This talk is from Sunday 11th September 2016, at New Community Church, SE London.
The Christian life is an adventure. An adventure of doing life with a God who's actively involved in the world.
Dave looks at how the everyday mundane can be transformed into an exciting adventure for God. Hearing God's voice, telling people about Jesus, even money can all be exciting and adventurous when we follow after God!
This talk, from Sunday 4th September is a one-off to kick off September 2016.
As we reach the end of the 2015/16 Academic Year. James looks at how we can be rooting ourselves for what lies ahead.
Looking at Philippians 3, James asks us to check ourselves - how are we doing?
Are we centring ourselves fully in the Gospel, finding a joy and contentment in life because of it? Are we keeping our eyes fixed squarely on eternal things rather than focussing on temporary things in the here and now?
This talk, from Sunday 17th July 2016, is a stand alone talk.
In this final talk in our series on Ephesians, Dave looks at how Paul instructs the Ephesians to be prepared for spiritual warfare.
He looks at how spiritual warfare is a part of everyday life. All around us, powers and principalities are trying to distract the world from God.
But by putting on the full armour of God, holding fast to truth, and believing in the total victory of Christ, we too can stand against the schemes of the enemy
The ancient world saw marriage as a functional, stable, use for a man and a woman.
The modern world says that marriage is to do with romance and desire.
Paul in Ephesians 5 says that the purpose and goal of marriage and singleness is Christlikeness
In this talk on Ephesians 5:21-6:9, James looks at how we can begin to understand biblical statements concerning roles in marriages, concerning gender, in the workplace and in other forms of relationships.
He challenges us to have our eyes fixed solely on Christ and to looking away from ourselves.
This talk, from Sunday 3rd July 2016, is part of our Ephesians series.
Worship is all of life, but there's a particular biblical emphasis on sung worship.
In this talk, James looks at why worship is so important for the Church, because it is so beneficial to the individual believer.
It gives us perspective, praises Jesus, gives us hope, reminds us of truth, brings a vitality to life, unclutters the busyness of our lives, and brings us joy.
It is as we worship that we can be filled with the Spirit and gain God's viewpoint on the world, there's a biblical connection between worship, being filled with the Spirit and then God providing what we need.
God does not call us to be passive in our worship, but actively pursuing and seeking Him within, and beyond, our Sunday meetings.
The Gospel is something that keeps on changing us. Sometimes it is sudden, other times it's more gradual. Whatever the case, it's a process.
In this talk, from Ephesians 4:17-5:18 Dave looks at why God would change you. There's the proof of conversion; the signs of growth and maturity, but also for your own sake.
He changes us for His glory - so that we would be witnesses to all who know us. Dave challenges us as to whether we want to live in the overflow of this blessing?
This talk, from Sunday 19th June 2016, is part of our Ephesians series.
Jesus calls us to make disciples; not converts.
Paul in Ephesians 4 is clear that the call over the church is to make disciples who grow deep and grow tall. This means that we have to take responsibility for our own discipleship, as well as being part of the Church and discipling one another.
Paul warns of how we can all to easily be thrown ‘too and fro by the waves’ of culture and teachings that aren’t completely Scriptural. If we aren’t rigorous in reading Scripture, understanding doctrine, and applying it to ourselves, we run the risk of not maturing in Christ.
Instead, James challenges us to learn the art of preaching to ourselves; rooting ourselves in the Spirit and the Word, encouraging each other to more and more Christ-likeness, and ultimately to grow as disciples.
This talk, from Sunday 12th June 2016, is part of our Ephesians series.
Everyone who loves Jesus is a missionary.
It's not something reserved for a select few 'holy warriors'.
We see this most clearly in the life of Paul: Jesus encountered him on the road to Damascus, transformed who he was, and empowered him to live a life spreading the Gospel, building the church, and stewarding the grace given to him.
In this talk, Tim looks at 5 keys to a life on mission from Ephesians Chapter 3.
This talk is from Sunday 5th June and is part of our Ephesians series.
Jesus commands his disciples to be united.
We’re called into a family, a family that ought to love, forgive, encourage and work together.
In this talk, Jon looks at why Paul would instruct the church in Ephesus to be united. He looks at four reasons as to why unity is so crucial, and why Satan hates it so much. We are a united church at both a local and a global level. We have brothers and sisters all across the world who believe in the same Jesus as we do, and so fighting to maintain the spirit of unity is crucial.
This talk, from Sunday 29th May 2016, is part of our Ephesians series.
Diversity is not an optional extra for the Church.
In Christ, we are all part of a new humanity - a humanity that encompasses people of every race, ethnicity, colour, language and background. And as such, embracing diversity is an essential part of us truly being the people of God.
In this talk, James addresses the topic of diversity. He challenges us on our cultural assumptions, and how we can all too easily fall into assumptions and even superiorities. Instead, he looks at what Jesus says of His Church and how we can continue to strive after being this new, diverse, humanity.
This talk, from Sunday 22nd May 2016, is part of our Ephesians series.
On Pentecost Sunday, Dave looks at why Paul would stress to the Ephesians that being filled with the Spirit is an absolutely crucial part of any Christian’s life.
He looks at who the Holy Spirit is, what He does, and how a life partnering and teaming with Him is a gift from God.
This talk from Sunday 15th May 2016 is part of our Ephesians series at New Community.
This talk from Sunday 15th May 2016 is part of our Ephesians series.
Ephesians 1 is a sentence of epic proportions, both in length but also in content.
It talks of being ‘Chosen’ by God before the foundations of the world. But what are we chosen for? What are we chosen into?
In this talk, James looks at how knowing what the end of the story is changes everything. Knowing that God has chosen us to be in Christ both now and for all eternity helps us to understand the realities of this world. Knowing that one day all pain and suffering will cease gives us hope in moments of difficulty now, knowing that we are chosen gives us our mission and our reason for living.
This talk, from Sunday 8th May 2016, is part of our Ephesians series.
As westerners, we are both fabulously wealthy, and desperately poor at the same time. Wealthy because we are richer, more intelligent, more insightful, more technically advanced, more healthy than ever before. But we’re still not happy. We’re still not content. Even with everything creation can offer, it’s not enough - we were made for more than this.
The blessings in Christ are the foundation for every believer. You can be blessed in this world and still not be content, because we were intended to live for more than this, are desires will only be satisfied by the blessings of God in Christ. That’s the revolutionary, counter-cultural news that the Bible proclaims.
Introductions often convey a message that we want the audience to hear.
Paul, writing to a church in Ephesus he knew well, wants to get a message clearly across: Do you know you’re blessed?
In the first few verses of the letter, he reminds them of the truths of the Gospel: of God’s election and love for His people, of Jesus dying for our sins.
And he asks us all the question: What are you focussing on?
This talk, from Sunday 1st May 2016, is from our Sidcup 6pm Meeting, and is part of our Ephesians series.
Paul writes in Ephesians 1 that we have been blessed with ‘every spiritual blessing’.
That means that as Christians we are blessed! But what does that mean?
In this talk, Jon looks at what it means to be truly blessed. He challenges the understanding that material blessing = divine blessing.
He breaks down how being blessed in Christ is so much better than any other blessing - knowing the assurance of hope for all eternity gives us the courage to live bold lives.
This talk, from Sunday 1st May 2016, is Part of our Ephesians series.
