Join me as I journal and share about my process in making music every day in 2019. I introduce my thoughts and behind the scenes along with the “finished product” all on my way to producing my debut album. Read more and listen on SoundCloud at my website: artofbryce.com
Almost did nothing today and recorded the podcast the day after thanks to a very long, intense and challenging day.
Quick creation today and I missed the metronome being snuck in as well as posting this on time,
Somewhat happy with the results of creating throughout one of the most frustrating days of the project so far.
A bit better progress from a late night session as I love into the weekend to focus more time on production again.
Focusing on more active listening of music throughout each day to try to improve my production and mixing. I believe it’s starting to pay off.
Really taking everything to a new level as I focus more on production and reset this project within my schedule.
Very quick, late last-minute creation for the day that turned out at least a bit better than expected.
New levels and breakthrough as I make more sounds myself for the production, while creating the vocals and concept all in around an hour.
Today I created a song that fits the best I’ve had so far within a song that will start an album. Big development and breakthrough.
Putting my focus on lyrics today after three frustrating attempts to push past my mental blocks and noise.
Going to work on switching up my routine and music creation time to be in the morning to reclaim sleep and energy.
Not happy with today’s creation, but I’m keeping the project going and not missing a day.
Quick creation today focusing on vocals and coming up with a concept right away. Finally getting back to an earlier and better routine now too.
Big breakthroughs and upgrades to my music today, including some new insights on this project.
Today’s creation feels like I hit another milestone that makes me feel better about my progress as we close in on the halfway point.
Taking more time early on today to create something more complete and at a higher quality, along with more thoughts on this project as a whole and where it’s headed.
Who woulda knew it would be so frustrating to make a song every single day when you’re starting out from scratch? I did.
Full disclosure: I couldn’t remember how many o’s I put in the title of this track, so I just guessed.
Finding a vibe as I’m reaching new levels in life and in the overwhelming amount of things I’m managing each day.
Trudging through a lul and rough patch of frustration and disappointment in this project.
Worked myself into a creative corner today as it got late and ended up frustrated. Still some experiments, positives and growth.
Experimenting with new vibes today despite feeling a bit of burnout as the weekend hits.
Today was tough to push past the mental hurdles, but I made a more complex beat and song I’m pretty happy with. Trying to get in my zone.
Trying out new waves today with freestyled lyrics and pulling out my keyboard for some bass.
Diving into more courses, speeding through it all, and putting it to good use on a new track.
A throwaway track for the day after diving into a bunch of new tutorials and upgrading my mixing skills.
Honestly just messing around and getting something done quick today. Sometimes that’s the way it is.
An ode to the woes of too many people clout chasing on social media just to sell crap to whoever and make a buck despite everyone’s mental health. Will you follow me back?
Inspired to make a love song and it ended up being my best one yet. ❤️ That’s the power of love 😭
Once again coming across the beautifully serendipitous process of being open to the creation as it unfolds - today, in the dark waters.
One of my favourite songs I’ve made to date, crafted on a day when I was going to keep it simple and short during a very late and tired night session.
A simple, raw song that I’m quite happy with, inspired by the beautiful vibes of Bon Iver / Justin Vernon.
You feel the vibration? By far my best creation I’ve made so far and the first complete song of this project.
Time keeps passing as I ramble on about all the benefits I see from this project so far.
Able to invest some extra time today, I created one of my most complex and polished songs to date.
Reminding myself the most important piece of this project is just to create and finish something every day.
Sampled the Heavenly Father Acapella by Bon Iver at the Sydney Opera House to create this new track.
I finally try out today a style / technique that always grabs my attention, something I’ll be working on a lot more throughout this project.
Building off of the experience and lessons from each day is starting to show through in the creations. Back on track and feeling great about what I’m making now.
Today was one of my most productive, thanks to the weekend, giving a V2 of yesterday’s track along with some empathy.
Using loops like building blocks today to save my energy for more intense creative endeavours tomorrow. That’s my secret for today.
Experimenting with new techniques today and starting to surpass my previous musical output!
Today’s song ends up being one of my most finished, polished and one of my favourites so far - it’s the new wave.
A sample progression I created back in Day 3 for an alternate sound/track that I took forward to finish today using “I’m Afraid The Masquerade Is Over” by David Porter.
One of my quickest sessions lead to a gem of an idea that I’ll need to work on much more. Really happy with it so far though.
Today’s clip was therapeutic and I’m pretty happy with the results after a hectic and brutal day.
Today’s clip was based on one vocal sample and then recorded entirely with a microphone - mostly my voice.
Late night / early morning quick session after I forgot about my clip for the day lead to the first rap.
A more complete clip inspired by the existential dread I felt while watching Bird Box... thanks Netflix...
Today was a day where I didn’t start until the end of the night, so I had to push myself to make something and keep the momentum.
Made a cool little transition, ending or interlude (whatever you want to call it) using a sample from the one and only Mr. Hudson. Full of emotions.
Made a quick loop after a rough personal day and last night learned quite a lot through some amazing YouTube videos and tutorials.
Sampling Man on the Moon (reprise) by Moses Sumney - I end up making an idea I’m fairly happy with for the couple hours of input.
Working to push past and win the psychological battle I’m finding myself in each day to simply create and hopefully learn or make something new.
Tired and lacking time, I create a track that I’m not so fond of - sampling a goofy video of myself.
I end up pulling through on another song that lives up to the high bar of day one, plus sped up my workflow exponentially from early lessons learned.
The pull to give up on day one ends up driving me to a creative breakthrough for one of my best tracks yet.
