The Discipleship Parenting podcast is not Christian parenting tips. It's diving into the Bible, applying it to our lives, and learning how to live it out and pass it on to our children. As parents, our kids hear what we say, but, more importantly, they see what we do. In today's world, more than ever, our children need us to show them the true life and adventure found in following Jesus.
It's summertime and you don't have to go far to see that modesty is something we need to be talking about as we raise our families in the current culture. It's so important that we understand the foundation of this issue so we don't fall for Satan's deceptive lies that tell us what we want to hear. God's ways are a blessing to us. Do we believe that when it comes to modesty?
God and power go together. God works powerfully to bring us to faith. God works in power to make us new creations. God fills us with the power of the Holy Spirit to do His work in the world. The next generation needs to know God and His powerful acts, not powerless religion.

Sometimes, as Christian parents, we become so focused on teaching our children the right things that we miss one of the most powerful paths of discipleship: inviting them into the joy we have in Jesus. When our children see our love for God and our satisfaction in Him, they can't help but be drawn in. Joy in Jesus is contagious.
If God is real and the Bible is His Word, then that changes everything. We quickly understand that it doesn't matter what one person thinks or another. It doesn't matter what the world is celebrating or not. The world is happy to tell you what womanhood should look like. It's happy to tell you what you deserve and what you have the right to do. But being rooted in God's Word, abiding in his love, and trusting in him, we discover a joyful life that flourishes.
Submission and obedience aren't words most men are drawn to. But in this episode for men, we examine how Jesus' perfect obedience to the Father reveals a different way and what that means for us as husbands and fathers.

Many things in life turn out to be much harder than we imagine - a strong marriage, raising kids, following Jesus. Yet all the best things are worth the struggle. Sometimes we get to see the blessings on the other side of the mess, and when that happens, it can serve to spur us on even more. If you feel stuck in a hard season in your home right now, this episode is an encouragement from us to keep pressing on and keep trusting God's ways.
Sin never offers what it promises. It starts so small and manageable, but soon we find ourselves a slave to it. Don't open the door to it in your marriage or family. Jesus has set us free to live a true life with Him.
We are being robbed. Jesus says that He has come that we may have life, and have it to the full. Yet our sinful nature tempts us to walk apart from God and His ways. As a result, we take a path that promises everything but delivers only destruction. Jesus is our Good Shepherd, and it is time to trust His leading in our lives.
The world tells us that we can be king of our own lives doing whatever is right in our own eyes. The Bible makes it clear that this is actually a life serving sin, which leads to death. We need King Jesus. It is in following Him that we find real freedom and life.
"After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel" (Judges 2:10). Are we watching the rise of a Judges generation? If so, what are we, as Christians, to do?
Are you ready for a life of freedom? It is one that offers us freedom from sin, death, and hell in exchange for a loving relationship with God as His adopted children. There seems to be a growing normalization of things like New Age spirituality, charms and crystals, Tarot card readings, psychics, neo-paganism, and witchcraft. As more young people identify as "nones," it invites the opportunity for them to seek after such things. Yet the Bible is clear that we should have nothing to do with these fruitless deeds of darkness but rather expose them. We are to be light in the world, sharing the truth of God's Word.
A new survey reveals that even Christians do not have a solid understanding of what the Bible teaches. This truth decay cascades down to our society and the result is a nation that does whatever is right in its own eyes. As Christian parents, we need to read the entire Bible. It impacts our entire lives and how we disciple our children.

As we set out on life's true adventure, following our Savior, Jesus, it is critical that we know and love His Word. Why? We will face many trials and hardships along the way. We will hear countless lies and feel strong pressure to conform. In a world filled with so much noise directing us the wrong way, it is critical that we know the voice of our Savior so that we can hear it over everything else.
Jesus has won our freedom and calls us to follow Him as His disciples. It is a hard life that will require us to lay down our desires for His. Yet it is the path to true life, unlike the other one that promises us everything but leads to our destruction. So, let's go! Let's follow the voice of Jesus.
Jesus changes everything. As Christians, we might understand that Jesus came and paid the penalty for our sins and through faith we are forgiven and receive the gift of eternal life. Yet there is more. Jesus is also our Lord and this truth penetrates every area of our lives.
The Bible contains foundational truths that change everything about our lives, including our parenting. We live in a "me, myself, and I" world where we are the main character. The reality is that everything is about God. It is His story.

As humans, we spend so much time boasting. We do it to defend ourselves, earn respect, or seek after love. The Bible tells us instead to boast in Jesus. It is in knowing God, His love, and redemption that we discover the reason and power of this boasting.
Life is filled with uncertainty. Do you find yourself coping with it all by seeking safety? As Christians, it's important that we don't get sucked up in the world's false promises of security, but rather, run to the one place it is truly found.
Help me overcome my unbelief! As Christians, we have every reason to be people of great faith. Let's turn our doubting laughter into confident prayers to God. As Jesus said, "Everything is possible for one who believes."
Spring has arrived and so has spring fever. The birds are singing, things are growing, cleaning is happening, and the warm sunshine is satisfying. As Christians, how is your relationship with God? Jesus said it best in Luke 17, "Remember Lot's wife!" We know the infamous story of her turning into a pillar of salt for looking back at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. What is the warning for us, Christians, mercifully rescued by our Savior?
Can you imagine Jesus pointing out that you are a person of great faith? For two people in the Bible, this happened! What can we learn from their stories? What did Jesus see in them? How can we live lives of great faith?

Most Americans would agree that our nation has real problems that need solving. They are issues that stem from a sinful people that have turned away from God and His ways. For healing to come to the US, it needs to start in our families, which are the foundation of any society. Parents, let's examine our families in humility, repent for our sins, and seek after God.
All humanity is descended from Adam, the first man made by God at the beginning of creation. From Adam, who disobeyed God, we inherit a sinful nature and see its effects everywhere in this fallen world. Yet this is not where the story ends. While we are all born children of Adam, God made a way for us to be reborn as children of God.
Too often our hearts wander from Jesus and his desires for us in order to have what we crave - be that comfort, safety, or the pleasures of this world. But there is no greater place to be than in intimate fellowship with Jesus as we follow where he leads, love what he loves, and leave behind the lesser things that cannot satisfy.

The path to joy is not found looking inward where our sinful nature steers us to anger, bitterness, jealousy, fits of anger, or anxiety. Joy comes from knowing God and the life-changing truths found in the Bible. Listening to a Christian radio drama last week got our family talking all about forgiveness. We love that God forgives us for our sins. We appreciate when others forgive us when we mess up. But forgive others? This is so much harder and can even seem impossible. Yet it is what God tells us to do as Christians and it is through Him we are able to do it. So, let's give forgiveness to others this Christmas.
Where is your citizenship? As Christians, we must remember that this world is not our home. No, we are sojourners and exiles here and our true home is with God in heaven. As we journey on, let us remember that we have been made new through Jesus and given a job to do on the way there. So let's press on and persevere until the end. It will be worth it!
Guess what? It is Christmastime. It is a season of Christmas lights, the decorated tree, memorable songs, and favorite treats. It is also when we celebrate an unimaginable truth: God became man. It is hard to comprehend the radical love of God that would move Him to such an act of humility. Has this Christmas miracle changed your life forever?
Let's try to reimagine what our families might look like as we live as Christians in a world that is walking in darkness. Too often we slide into the pattern shown us by the world - a life that makes very little sense biblically. Instead, let's follow Jesus and live the life He calls us to walk.

Be encouraged to see beyond the challenges and make this upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas season an opportunity to bless others by welcoming them into your home.

We have been purchased by the precious blood of our Savior, Jesus. Because of that, we follow Him as our Lord. Do we truly comprehend what that means?
God cares about obedience. It's not something we talk about often, but we should be. Let's pray God works in our hearts to make us people and families that break out of the cycle of what is "normal" and acceptable. While this comes with challenges, a movement of radical obedience to the Word of God is exactly what the next generation and the world needs!
What we are doing isn't working. The majority of young people who grow up active in the church walk away from the faith by adulthood. This heartbreaking statistic burdens us to ask the question: Are we willing to do whatever it takes to fight back for the next generation?

Not only is this letter a timely reminder for the church in America, it's also a beautiful invitation to the real riches and joy found in Jesus.
We are diving into the letter to Philadelphia. While Jesus begins each letter in Revelation by describing himself, this one is particularly powerful because it talks about his authority as the King of Kings that sits on David's throne forever. This truth brings encouragement to the church in Philadelphia and should do the same for us. Let us be an overcomer and stand in the presence of our powerful King for all eternity!
"I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up!" In the letter to Sardis, Jesus gives this church a strong rebuke. By all their outward appearances, this church seemed to be thriving, but in reality they were spiritually dead. What is your reputation? Would God agree? Let's hear the words of Jesus to Sardis and wake up!
“Nevertheless, I have this against you: you tolerate that woman Jezebel.” Jesus’ message to the church in Thyatira calls out Jezebel and those who have committed acts of idolatry and immorality with her. Join us as we learn what the Bible teaches us about Jezebel and then examine our own lives and churches for signs that we have been tolerating her too.
In the letter to Pergamum, Jesus points out that he is the one with the sharp, double-edged sword. Why introduce himself to the church in Pergamum in this way? In the letter to Smyrna in Revelation, we get a picture of a church facing afflictions, poverty, slander, and persecution. Yet, Jesus reminds them that he is the First and Last, he died and came to life again. In Jesus, they are rich and can stand firm even to the point of death and receive life as a victor's crown. This letter offers us great encouragement today as we face days of increased persecution in the American Church.
The letters to the churches in Revelation offer encouragement and challenges for Christians today. In the letter to Ephesus, Jesus commends them for their hard work and perseverance. Yet, he rebukes them for forsaking their first love. This was a serious sin they were committing that required their repentance. For Christians today, we need to consider the same thing: Are we forsaking our first love?
It is critical that we teach our kids how to pray because prayer is powerful and is a blessing God gives us as Christians. Yet, for many of us parents, it can be an intimidating area because we know that we aren't the best at it and feel quite uncomfortable praying in front of others. The good news is there are practical ways to grow in our prayer lives and steps we can take to see our children praying often and confidently.
We are in the race of faith and we want to give this life our all. So, it is important that we train just like an athlete that is intent on the prize. As Christians, we need to examine our diet (hint: not talking about food and drink), our training, and look at our coaching. God has equipped us with everything we need, so are you ready to get started?
Jesus has won us an incredible prize. Do you know what it is? Do you understand why this prize is so valuable? It is important to know the answers to these questions because they are eye-opening and life-changing.
Back to school is in the air, on our minds and all over social media. Why? Because our kids' education is a big deal. As we launch into a new year of academics and extra curricular activities, let's stop and take a step back and look towards the future. What does a successful education look like? Are we taking the right steps towards that goal? How can we keep the right perspective about our kids' education and make sure we are equipping them for real success?
Is your life marked by unending forgiveness? As Christians, this is how God has called us to live in response to the love and forgiveness he has given to us. This sounds great until we have to do it day after day to people that have wronged us and possibly in terrible ways. So, how do we do it? How do we live as followers of Jesus and offer all unending forgiveness?
Is the phrase "radical love" just Christian jargon, something cool to use for a book title or possibly a podcast? The answer is absolutely not! The love that causes a perfect, holy God to come to earth and give his life to save his wicked, rebellious creation is truly a radical love. The crazy thing is that Jesus now tells us, as Christians, to follow in his footsteps and live this radical love for the world. We love others because he first loved us.
Can you imagine living a life of unwavering trust in God? The awesome thing is that God hasn't made it an unattainable goal. It simply takes getting into God's Word to remember who he is and the promises he has given to us as his children.
Bad news abounds and sin flourishes. Yet, as Christians, we have an unshakable hope! The Bible reminds us of many important truths that conquer the discouraging lies of Satan. We are equipped to lift our eyes and not just survive this world, but to move forward in boldness, bringing this light and hope to a dark, lost world.
Life's worries. Thorn. Desire for riches. Thorn. Chasing after pleasures. Thorn. Do you have any thorns in your life? As Christians, we want to produce a crop for God and this requires understanding the danger of thorns and then getting rid of them. Let's remove the thorns and let God cultivate good soil in our lives!
The path, rocky ground, among the thorns, and good soil. Guess what? One of these is you. In the parable of the sower, Jesus describes a farmer sowing seed, which is the word of God, onto these unique grounds. Each soil represents different people from unbelievers to believers that produce a large crop. As Christians, we need to honestly examine our lives and see which one describes us. Yes, we all want to be the good soil, but I think for many of us that isn't the case... yet.
I've got some juicy news! You won't believe what I just heard! The Bible compares the tongue to a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. We can all understand this comparison. We have all used our words to hurt others and have experienced the same pain when it has happened to us. God tells Christians to love one another and to build each other up. When we obey this command and practice self-control over our tongues, we will see an increase in the unity of our churches, marriages, and families.
The world is full of division and that spills into the Church. Yet, it doesn't have to be this way. As Christians, it is possible to end these divisions when we find our unity in the Spirit, living as one body to accomplish the work of Jesus. Let's rise up as a Church, in our marriages, and as parents!

What's love got to do with it? Well, as followers of Jesus, it has everything to do with our lives. In fact, Jesus said our love is how people would know we are his followers. Yet, we need to look at the Bible for the definition of love because it is different from how the world understands it. Then, comes the challenging part - living out this sacrificial love. While it might be hard, it is possible and it is crucial we do it for our children and this world.

“Don’t have sex before you are married.” For most of us who grew up in Christian homes, we probably had this command ingrained into our brains. Why? Because sexual intimacy is one of the most special and exclusive gifts God has given to a husband and wife and it should be guarded and saved for marriage. However, if we emphasize that the main goal of a young Christian is to merely maintain your virginity until marriage, then we are missing the boat - BIG TIME. Christians shouldn’t be solely pursuing virginity, but rather aiming for a life of purity.
Paul warns of a time when people will surrounds themselves with others that are willing to tell them what they want to hear, things that go against the Bible. However, before we move on feeling confident that this verse is talking just about others, we need to stop and honestly evaluate our own lives. We may all be surprised by what we find.
The desire to be liked is normal, but this can quickly become an idol when our need for approval starts to consume us and we begin to compromise on God's Word to fit in. Chasing after people's approval is a game you can't win. Yet, when we defeat this idol with the truths of the Bible and live with the sole purpose to please God we find great freedom and adventure.
