He made millions, lost it all — twice. Then had a heart attack.
Dan Sachkowsky didn't build success the easy way. Starting his first company at 17, he made $4 million net by 24… and then lost everything. He rebuilt, reached 7 figures again, went bankrupt a second time, and kept going. Then August 8th, 2022 — a near-fatal heart attack stopped everything.
That moment forced him to ask one question: What legacy am I actually building?
In this episode, Dan gets raw about pressure, purpose, identity, and what it really takes to build a life — not just a business. If you're chasing success without a foundation, this one is for you.

In this raw and eye-opening episode of The Alchemist Lounge, Alex Atwood sits down with entrepreneur and former underground kingpin Ryan Root to unpack a story that spans transformation, risk, identity, and redemption. From being labeled a "lazy" underachiever to building a $100K/week black market empire—and ultimately losing it all—Ryan shares the unfiltered truth behind his rise, fall, and reinvention.
What begins as a personal journey to fix his own health evolves into a deep conversation about hormones, human potential, and the systems that shape our lives. From navigating the underground steroid world to serving prison time and emerging with a new mission in health optimization, Ryan reveals how adversity became his greatest teacher—and why failure might be the gateway to becoming who you're meant to be.
Whether you're chasing success, rebuilding after loss, or questioning the systems around you, this conversation will challenge how you think about risk, responsibility, and what it really means to transform your life.
In this episode, you will hear:
(0:00) From "Lazy" to Limitless: how untreated low testosterone shaped Ryan's early identity—and changed everything when addressed. (2:28) Entering the Underground: why the black market became his only option—and how necessity sparked opportunity. (6:05) The Identity Shift: confidence, respect, and how the world responds when you change internally and physically. (8:54) Business 101 in the Shadows: how simple fundamentals like customer service and speed built a $100K/week empire. (16:27) Explosive Growth & Ego Traps: the psychology of rapid success—and what happens when money changes relationships. (33:34) Losing It All: assets seized, identity stripped, and navigating the uncertainty of sentencing. (37:39) Prison as a Classroom: building a business plan, finding mentorship, and turning time into transformation. (43:00) Becoming the "Jailhouse Lawyer": using knowledge to help others—and finding purpose behind bars. (46:01) A Broken System: why most inmates are over-sentenced—and what Ryan learned about justice. (39:16) Failure as Fuel: why Ryan wouldn't change a single part of his past—and how it shaped the man he is today.

Drop your biggest takeaway in the comments, and let us know: what risk are you avoiding that might actually change your life?
In this episode of The Alchemist Lounge, Alex sits down with Paul Cooper—co-founder of Castle Grace—for one of the most raw and powerful conversations we've had on the show. Paul shares the origin story of Castle Grace, a consciously designed communal home in Boulder, Colorado, built on a written constitution, shared governance, pooled finances, and radical transparency. But beneath the castle walls lies an even deeper story—of childhood in Rwanda, unimaginable trauma, faith, genocide, psychedelics, and the healing power of storytelling.
From missionary life in East Africa to losing his father in a tragic accident at age eight… from navigating the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide to rebuilding his emotional world through mushrooms and children's films—Paul's journey is both heartbreaking and inspiring. This is a conversation about grief, sovereignty, community design, emotional regulation, and what it means to consciously architect your life.
In this episode, you will hear:
(0:00) Castle Grace: building a real-life "mythical" castle with governance, shared ownership, and no chore charts. (5:04) Designing a constitution for community: peer ratings, pooled finances, and decentralized power. (19:24) Growing up on a missionary campus in Rwanda and witnessing community built from nothing. (28:55) The tragic car accident that took Paul's father and changed his life forever. (34:15) Moving to Michigan, rebuilding family life, and the role of faith after trauma. (43:10) Story as medicine: why telling your story can be life-saving—and how identity evolves over time. (49:45) Returning to Rwanda as an adult and confronting the legacy of genocide. (58:30) Discovering psychedelics: mushrooms, emotional regulation, and reclaiming childhood presence. (1:05:20) Using animated films as "emotional physical therapy" to safely process trauma. (1:10:00+) Why psychedelics must be voluntary—and the dangers of turning medicine into dogma.
This episode is a masterclass in resilience and intentional living. If you've ever wondered how to turn trauma into transformation, how to build community without hierarchy, or how to reclaim presence after loss, this conversation will stay with you long after it ends.
In this heart-opening episode of The Alchemist Lounge, Alex Atwood sits down with author, therapist, and relationship expert Vicki Kennedy to explore how couples can transform conflict into connection—and why "It's Never Personal" might be the mantra that saves your relationship and your sanity. Drawing from her own story of heartbreak and healing, Vicki shares the tools behind the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) model, how "demon dialogues" sabotage intimacy, and what it means to drop into primary emotion, co-regulate, and become true allies with your partner.
Whether you're single, coupled, or in the trenches of relational breakdown, this conversation will reshape how you relate—to others and to yourself.
In this episode, you will hear: (0:00) The "Oh Moment" & Emotional Hijacks: when your nervous system says "I don't matter"—and how to course-correct. (6:05) The Hold Me Tight Workshop: why couples of every stage—from dating to divorced—can benefit. (10:44) Demon Dialogues Decoded: what happens when your partner "never listens" and why it's rarely about the dishes. (24:13) Vicki's Story: divorce, five therapists, and the training that finally clicked. (27:46) Why EFT Works: the neuroscience behind connection, and how secure attachment makes you a better human. (36:53) Shadow Work & Self-Compassion: why the parts you hide are the keys to healing. (46:06) The Five-Step "Never Personal" Process: from pain to presence, and holding what hurts to release it. (57:35) Ego, Forgiveness & Freedom: the summit beyond the summit—and the realization that "there's nothing to forgive."
If you're ready to evolve how you love—and how you live—this one's not to be missed. Drop your biggest insight in the comments, and let us know: what demon dialogue are you rewriting?

The use of psychedelics allows for healing and transformation. However, a lot of people shy away from it primarily because of the stigma associated with it. That’s why education and training are important when we talk about psychedelics. The use of psychedelics is a skill just like you’re learning how to play jiu-jitsu or you’re learning how to cook.
If you’re interested in how psychedelics can impact and bring healing to your life, a great starting point is something called microdosing. The beauty of it is you don't need to be as worried about every little thing having to be perfect because you can just take a little bit and see how you feel. You can start to calibrate how you feel with it, without having to risk a bad acid trip.
In today’s conversation, we talk all about psychedelics and microdosing with Paul Austin, author of the book, Mastering Microdosing: How to Use Sub-Perceptual Psychedelics to Heal Trauma, Improve Performance, and Transform Your Life. Paul shares his knowledge and insights into psychedelics and microdosing, their benefits, and some things you need to know about! In this episode, you will hear:

Listen in and discover how Lyle is turning digital medicine into a modality for transformation through gaming, and changing the stigma around technology as something that pulls us away from being healthy into something that potentially transforms mental health.

We live in a society where we’re taught that our clothes are disposable. 80 billion new pieces of clothes are made every year and 87% will wind up in an incinerator landfill within 18 months. Out of that 87%, only 3% are made of sustainable fibers, which means there’s massive soil toxification that’s also leaching to your waterways. 30% of the microplastics in the ocean come from the clothes we not only toss but also wash as microplastics are leached into our washing machines that go into the waterways.
In this episode, Jeff Scult, founder of One Golden Thread, shares the impetus behind this sustainable clothing brand that wasn’t initially set out to be a clothing company. Rather it was actually a physical manifestation of his full self-expression over his life's journey. It was his calling to share the philosophy that despite all the curve balls thrown at us, we are each golden inside – and this simple truth is what connects us together as a golden thread.
Jeff also shares a pragmatic marketing lesson that he learned from his dog and the transformative workshop that he attended, which was also the precursor of One Golden Thread.

A lot of founders tend to have this excuse that since they’re leaders, they don’t have to be great managers. But just as much as you need to show excellent leadership, you also need to be a great manager for the company to be successful.
In this episode, Sophie Theen, educator, speaker, and author of The Soul of Startups, talks about the alchemy behind startups. Her focus is on shifting the cultural mentality from “me” to “we.” When you understand that you're no longer creating a business just for yourself and that the business is going to feed so many people, you are now creating a sustainable, and hopefully a good working environment for everybody in the company.
Sophie has a degree in mechanical engineering, but she's an expert in the HR realm, specifically around cultural aspects. She believes we have to take the emotional part of the equation by leading with good data-driven decisions.

For many people, the journey to oneself is a road less traveled. It doesn’t cost anything but the price you have to pay to reach your destination involves breaking free from your programs and patterns and crushing your ego. These are things that not a lot of people could easily afford to do. But once you make that decision to take that leap and take action, and with the right tools, right techniques, and the right teachers around you – transformation happens.
In this episode, Pablo Lucero, a yogi and breathwork practitioner, talks about his journey and how he went from a legal career to the path of a yogi. He shares his experiences in plant medicine, functional power yoga, and using breathwork to tap into his higher self. He shares some philosophies around yoga, the power of finding your edge, and overcoming your fears and self-doubt.

Whether you’re an employee or an employer, are you paying for or receiving health care that you actually use? Does it even fit your lifestyle or your needs?
Sadly, we’re seeing a gap in our healthcare system due to a lack of transparency. Both employers and employees – the consumers of healthcare – don’t actually have any insights into the actual value of what they’re paying for.
Healthcare providers, on the other hand, couldn't tell patients how much the service actually costs. Then they have to justify their actions so they can get paid for the work done. They have to relay the information through codes to the third party that holds all the money, but it's not really present. Clearly, it’s a triad that is systemically difficult, if not broken.
Today's guest, Dr. Jawad Arshad, CEO of WoW Health Solutions, talks about how he’s disrupting our broken healthcare landscape and how he’s working with an amazing community of medical providers that are also looking to diversify and break away completely from the third-party reimbursement model.
Dr. Arshad’s end goal is to provide transparent and affordable healthcare, giving the power back to the people so they have access to the kind of care they really need.

Is your current job lighting you up? Is the path of least resistance the way to go or should you put yourself in an uncomfortable position to really find out who you are?

As leaders, it’s important that we’re able to nurture our own resilience so we can withstand whatever challenges that come our way. How do we become resilient then?
In today’s episode, Dr. Taryn Marie Stejskal, the Chief Resilience Officer at Resilience Leadership Institute, talks about how we can all tap into our own resilience, which is something we don’t find outside of ourselves. Resilience is the essence of what it means to be human. It’s something ingrained in the fabric of humanity and our shared human experiences defined by challenge, change, and complexity.
Dr. Taryn Marie Stejskal is an executive coach, a keynote speaker, an author, a mom, an athlete, an international traveler, and a philanthropist. Taryn helps people recognize their worth and value, believe in themselves, appreciate their inherent strengths, recognize their skills and talent, and teach them to be more resilient so they can reach their full potential.
Taryn met resilience at 14 years old in her own childhood bedroom when she had a terrifying experience with a stalker. In her early 20s, she met all of the diagnostic criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder. It was a two-decade journey of healing from trauma and betrayal of her safety. Taking that experience and the knowledge she gained over the years, Taryn is now sharing that message of resilience with the world.

There are a lot of entrepreneurs that are finding so much success in whatever industry they’re in, but then there’s still that feeling that something’s missing. Are you one of them?
Maybe you have this desire to create solutions for the world. But you don’t feel in full alignment with how things are going around you right now. Then how beautiful would it be when you’re able to fuse creativity and alignment together?
In this episode, an entrepreneur at heart, Tim Sae Koo, talks about how business leaders can elevate their game, their business, and their life through the help of psychedelics.
Tim bootstrapped, scaled, and exited his first software company by 28, and he dove, heart first, into the world of psychedelic transformation. He has expanded himself into doing psychedelic retreats, coaching, fashion, and possibly, a run for the presidency. Regardless of what he’s doing, Tim pours himself into things that are aligned with his soul’s calling to support other people in the process of waking up and living from their hearts.

If you’re someone who’s used to sitting down on the computer the whole day, there are surely times when you’ve noticed pain here and there. Some days, it’s on your neck and shoulders. Other days, you feel it in your back. You get so used to it that you think it’s just normal. Your body has probably masked those things to keep you going. But it can only mask things for so long.
If your body is a reflection of all the constant actions that you do repeatedly – then what kind of image are you giving off to the world? It’s time to tune into your body and have a deeper relationship with yourself through your physical body. If you seek longevity, then you have to be able to live actively. In order to do that, you have to pay close attention to what your body is telling you.
In today’s episode, Luigi Pissani, Founder of FE:AL (Feel Everything : Actively Living), talks about having a deeper relationship with your body. Once you start to notice your body a little bit more, then your body will tell you what it needs – and everything just starts to connect and align.

Psychology has spanned over a hundred years now. First, there was Pavlov’s theory of classical conditioning where humans are triggered by certain stimuli. Then there’s the concept of cognitive behavior where one’s emotions are said to be influenced by the mind. Now, we are on this third wave of human psychological evolution, which is the mind, body, and spirit connection.
The mind, body, and spirit connection is this idea that the mind, body, and spirit are all connected – and that mindfulness has a significant place in the acceptance and compassion that we can feel towards ourselves. Therefore, we can heal our bodies from diseases by listening to our bodies and our intuition for the signals they provide. And if we just learn to listen to them, we can discover the seat of our energies.
Spiritual guide and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (PAT) facilitator, Austin Mao, joins us today to talk more about the mind, body, and spirit connection, as well as the role of psychedelics in achieving such connection.
Austin is an integration coach, and the Founder of Ceremonia, a startup church that is on a mission to bring consciousness to the world through the intentional application of psychedelics and psychotherapy.

He has built successful tech and real estate businesses in his career. He would devote the rest of his life after Ayahuasca to awakening other entrepreneurs to their full human potential. Austin is a spiritual guide and author. After a 20-year hiatus, he began to share his ideas through vulnerability and responsibility.
