The Bitterest Pill: Recent Episodes

Dan Klass

The Dan Klass podcast

View Details

In this episode of The Bitterest Pill, we bid farewell to the previous host, Dan Klass, and welcome aboard the new host, Dan Klass. I/We still haven’t figured out how to differentiate between the two Dans, but we’ll come up with something. Since these episode notes are being typed by the current Dan Klass, I feel I am in the unique position to dub myself Dan Alpha, and the previous version Dan Beta. Or, we are both Dan Beta (Neither of us would refer to ourselves as an “Alpha.” That is for those who compensate), so maybe the other Dan is “Dan Beta” and I am “Dan Betamax.” Better in many ways, but even MORE unlikely to be accepted by the masses…

This is much like the first episode of the Original Recipe The Bitterest Pill, in that it is less an episode, and more of a preamble of what I assume is to come.

This episode is available in audio and video form. I currently do not know how Spotify (or any of the podcatchers) handle the audio/video switcheroo thing, but I’ll figure it out (unless it costs money).

(BTW, I’m typing this sitting on my bed, projecting my iPhone screen (Google docs) onto the wall, typing on a wireless keyboard. Dreams DO come true)

I’m going to try to do a show every week or every other week, starting…Now, I guess.

Thanks for your patience while I’ve undergone a painful but worthwhile metamorphosis.

(April 2011) My daughter got slapped in the face at school by one of her friends. Then, the next day, a couple of boys tried to test her karate skills by punching and kicking her. Of course, this is the same day that my father sent me the YouTube video of the tiny Australian bully who got body slammed by his much larger victim. After seeing the video I was tempted to unleash my daughter on anyone who messes with her.

Of course, this is dangerous stuff, and you can’t have kids going around body slamming each other. At least not here in American. What I find fascinating, however, is the concern (by attorneys) that if the school didn’t punish the bullied kid as well as the bully, it would establish body slamming as the Rule of Law in the school. Then, from then on, bullies would be open to being body slammed every time they punched a kid a couple times in the face. And the attorneys are talking like this is a bad thing. Don’t you think that, if the bullies thought there was a real danger of being tossed into the concrete every time they picked on someone, there would be a decline in bullying? Yeah, me too.

My son is the most brilliant kid I know. He also has rocks in his backpack. I don’t know why. I think it is just to infuriate me.

Luckily for all of us, there is now an allergy medication that you CAN take with orange juice.

This episode wasn’t part of PillBox Too. I just didn’t know what image to use…

I had to go to IKEA to return a rug, a floor lamp, and two desk lamps. But, before I could do that, I had to find the receipt for the floor lamp and the desk lamps. And, before I could do THAT, I had to remember everything I did on the day I bought the lamps. I could remember what I wore, what I didn’t wear, what I paid with, where I parked, where I couldn’t take a cart… What I couldn’t remember was where I stashed the damned receipt.

At some point during this recording, I had to change microphones. I think my trusted Audio-Technica AT3035 (discontinued) mic finally gave out. I took a few moments to mourn the passing of an old friend, and quickly replaced it with another mic. Listen, I love the old mic, but the show must go on. Right?

I tell a story about having to drive to Burbank to buy a telescope on the same day I had lunch with my old college friend the celebrity priest. I hit a lot of traffic on the way to lunch, so the trip to a lot longer than I expected. Or could stand.

The photo above is of BEER.
