Dr. Laura Hanson’s new podcast dives into the deep intricacies of the brain. She will help listeners understand what occurs when developmental delay is present, delve into how common labels, such as ADHD, ADD and OCD, impact the brain’s processing, and how anyone can leverage the power of their brain to unlock the obstacles preventing them from achieving their goals. So much is known of the brain today, and Dr. Hanson wants above all else to teach others how to understand the capacity of the thing governing their bodies and directing their lives. After the year we have all experienced, it is time to break free and move ourselves forward. Dr Hanson believes when people know how their brain works, it is possible to create, nurture, and bring a plan to fruition for their lives. The possibilities are closer than you think. Come, please join me in discovering what your brain is capable of once harnessed!
You might not have paid much attention in your high school chemistry class (or maybe you skipped it altogether), but today we’re going to talk all about body chemistry and how it relates to developmental delay and you’re going to want to pay attention. There is so much chemistry for us to talk about and I’m just going to barely skim the surface in this conversation. Our immune systems (the hallmark of how we deal with body chemistry) doesn’t mature until age 3. That means whatever is going on in a child’s body in those first three years is the role of model of how that system is going to function. When children are constantly given broad-spectrum antibiotics, their good bacteria is wiped out over and over again, and they are literally programming their bodies to be sick!

This is the fifth episode in our childhood development series and today I will be talking specifically about gut health and the way it impacts brain development. The human gut takes approximately two years to fully mature and the human immune system takes about three years. That means the foods and germs a child is exposed to in their first few years of life will have a strong impact on the child’s overall health and development. In this episode, I talk specifically about feeding babies and toddlers, but many of these ideas can be applied to older children and adults as well.

This week, continuing our series on childhood development, we are talking about the birth process itself. Did you know that the way a baby is born can actually play a huge role in the way the baby develops? There are SO many things going on during the birthing process and in this episode, I compare an ideal vaginal birth with an elective c-section. When babies are born vaginally, there are a number of things that occur that set the baby up to develop properly. Some of these include the activation of specific reflexes, the removal of fluid from the baby’s lungs, and the transfer of healthy bacteria to the baby from the mom’s birth canal.

Today we’re continuing our series on childhood development by talking about stress and it’s influence on developmental progression. We use the word stress so lightly, but it is a physiological event that can affect every part of our bodies, and especially our brains. We are not meant to be in stress all the time. I think we often think about stress as it applies to adults, but forget that children can also experience stress and chronic stress. In this episode I talk about how stress relates to development and physiology, how it triggers our fight or flight response, and what to do if you or your child are caught in a cycle of chronic stress.

Today we are continuing our series on child development. If you listened to the previous episode, then you’ll recall that the CDC recently changed the developmental milestones. This should raise all kinds of red flags - our children today are not developing the same as they did in the past. Today we will be focusing especially on what a developmental delay actually is and exploring some common reasons for developmental delays and how they affect a child’s brain.

Welcome back to season two of the Connect My Brain podcast! This season we are going to focus on childhood development and today we’re jumping right in talking about developmental milestones and why you need to pay attention to them. In February of 2022 the CDC actually changed the developmental milestones to match what they see happening in kids today. This means our children are not developing the way they used to and this is a big problem!

Has COVID zapped your energy?
Has COVID hijacked your dreams?
