Ronnie Dijon is a Phoenix-based music artist. His album "Love Is Real" is set to drop in mid-September and he is hosting an album release party. Ronnie joins Class Act Radio to talk about his upcoming album and his versatile approach to music. Ronnie opens up about how he overcame his past porn addiction that affected his relationships and how it caused him to disconnect from people. We dug deep into some of the issues that black men face when expressing themselves, in music and in life.
Recently I've had one of my home girls share with me they are struggling with making new male friends. Apparently that's because majority of the time, the dudes end up wanting to hook up with her. That got me thinking, can men and women just be friends without wanting more? We are adults of course we can, however that are some lines that get blurred with friendships that can cause drama in romantic relationships.

Halle Bailey was recently cast as Ariel in the live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid." When the trailer for the movie was released, the video recieved over 1.5 million dislikes with people leaving racist comments. Youtube had to disable the comment section due to the number of racist comments. Tune as I break down the source of why racist folk is bothered by a little black mermaid and the portrayal of black folk in media.
PnB Rock was recently killed after someone robbed him of his jewelry. My condolences go out to his family and loved ones. Gun violence in Hip Hop is all too common.

Shabree Rawls is a Cleveland therapist who was fired after her tik tok post about black men needing to go to therapy went viral. A lot of what she said was correct, more black men should go to therapy however the tone of her video was received as aggressive and abrasive by some. On this episode, I go into detail about the story of the viral post, empathizing with Shabree Rawls, and how the lack of mental health awareness affects the black community.

A Kansas pastor recently called out his entire congregation for being broke, poor, and busted after they failed to buy him a Mavado watch. There is more to the story however Pastor Carlton Funderburke, senior pastor at Church at the Well in Kansas City later issued an apology for his actions. Mental health is a hot topic of conversation. Anyone can struggle with their mental health and when it comes to male mental health, often our issues are taken out of context. Men are supposed to "suck it up" and "men don't cry." According to Mental Health America "More than 4 times as many men as women die by suicide in the U.S. In 2010, 38,364 Americans died by suicided, and over 79% of these suicides were men." Tune in as I talk about different factors that affect men's mental health and the importance of male friendships for our mental well-being.

ManTherapy.org – Therapy Resources for Men
Part of a multi-agency effort, including the Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention and Cactus, Man TherapyÒ is giving men a resource they desperately need. A resource to help them with any problem that life sends their way, something to set them straight on the realities of suicide and mental health, and in the end, a tool to help put a stop to the suicide deaths of so many of our men.

While mental illnesses affect both men and women, the prevalence of mental illnesses in men is often lower than women. Men with mental illnesses are also less likely to have received mental health treatment than women in the past year. However, men are more likely to die by suicide than women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Recognizing the signs that you or someone you love may have a mental disorder is the first step toward getting treatment. The earlier that treatment begins, the more effective it can be.

Loyalty Lounge is a black owned club where Scottsdale PD searches club patron cars for guns with out their consent, harass black folk in the parking lot leaving the club, and possible next steps to support Loyalty Lounge. The U.S. Supreme Court is looking to potentially overthrow Roe vs Wade, a court rulling in 1973 that ruled it unconstitutional for states to put bans on abortion. The common response to doing so is to either save tax payer dollars or that it is morally "wrong." My views on it is, not my body not my business. Women's bodies are their own and old white men making laws about what they cannot do with their bodies is outrageous. Looking to overturn Roe vs Wade could be a sign of other Supreme Court rulings like segreation in schools or voting rights rulings.
Self proclaimed relationship guru and image consultant Kevin Samuels recently passed away due to a heart attack. Samuels was well know for his aggresive talk to women about relationships and delivery method that often rubbed women the wrong way. As much as they deserve what is coming to them, I talk about ways to recover from this type of hurt and get back to building healthy friendships. Kezia M Williams, social media influencer and CEO My Black Receipt of was experience an intruder who tried to break into her home.
Though the suspect never made it inside he was seen on camera with gloves, zips ties, and allegedly armed. Kezia's social media following help her identify the intruder however Maryland Police said he never committed a crime and this matter must be settled in court.
In 2020 nearly 40% of missing persons were people of color however African Americans only take up 13 % of the population. Missing person and kidnap cases affecting black Americans often are not taken as serious due to bias in media and lack of diversity in law enforcement.

More than 15,000 Haitian asylum seekers and migrants recently made the news after trying to enter the United States. Images from Del Rio, Texas began to surface of border patrol agents riding horses and using whips on Haitian migrants. Many were polarized however this type of treatment is nothing new for the United States and how it treats Haitians. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, between 2018-2021 only 4.62% of Haitian asylum seekers were granted asylum by the U.S. The lowest rate among 84 groups during the study.

Houston Haitians United has worked to connect and uplift Houston’s Haitian community. Now, the organization is on the ground helping run a shelter where volunteers are providing Haitian food and supplies, translation services, COVID tests, and even hairstyling.
Undocublackis a support network that advocates for undocumented Black immigrants by building community, providing education and training, and organizing for immigrant rights and racial justice.
Border Kindnesswas founded in 2018 in response to the caravan of migrants from Central America. Since it has continued to provide food, shelter, medical services, transportation, and legal services for asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants of all kinds. The group is offering support services to Haitian asylum seekers who have passed through the border.
Val Verde Border Humanitarian Coalitionprovides food, supplies, and transportation to newly arrived refugees who have gotten through border patrol.
Black Immigrants Bail Fund is a collaborative effort from the Haitian Bridge Alliance and the Detroit-based African Bureau for Immigration and Social Affairs whose ultimate goal is to end the mass incarceration of Black immigrants.
Detention Watch Network is a national coalition whose goal is to abolish immigration detention in the United States. It recently hosted a national day of action to stop the deportations and continues to organize for the rights of immigrants.
World Central Kitchen is an international organization that goes wherever there are hungry people to feed. It’s currently on the ground in Del Rio, feeding hot meals and fresh fruit to Haitian asylum seekers.
A Tik Toker recently went viral after revealing she and her boyfriend have been living in an apartment together for a year, which he pays the rent and major finances. What he doesnt know is that girlfriend and Tik Tok user @jaynedoee0 is the owner of the building and all the rent money he pays goes directly to her! Her boyfriend does not know this and continues ot pay the rent. Some people have applauded her for the move while others have criticized her for lying and using her boyfriend for his money.

DaBaby has been under fire after making sexist and homophobic remarks about members of the gay community and those affected by HIV/AIDS. Aja MyQueen of As If The Podcast, pulls up to Class Act Radio and we talk about how homophobia is common in Hip Hop, misinformation around sexual health, and the common misconception around HIV/AIDS affecting members of the LGBTQ community.
According to the CDC, in 2018, in the United States, the death rate for African Americans/Blacks due to HIV was higher (16.3 per 100,000) compared with any other racial/ethnic group (2.5 Whites). HIV is not a problem exclusive to members of the LGBTQ community, it is an issue that affects a number of people, especially black Americans.

Simone Biles recently withdrew from the 2021 Tokoyo Olympics for reasons about her mental health. Many conservative media personalities have been critical of her decision to withdraw citing her as "weak" or "selfish." Although half the people criticizing her cannot even bend over to tie their shoes, many forget that Simone Biles was one of the many young women who survived being sexually harassed by former USA Olympic Team Doctor, Larry Nassar.
Simone Biles also has had a number of her gymnastic performance scores being lowered and not recognized, mainly due to how exceptionally well she performs moves that others in her sport cannot.

PK Tha Poet, a Chicago born music artist by way of Phoenix,AZ details his recent spontaenous trip to South Africa and new documentary "Not By Sight." PK orignially planned and scheduled this trip in two months to fly to South Africa and go on tour with other local South African artists. In returning to the United States, PK finds inspiration in evolving his sound and new life experiences of what it means to bet on your self and go by faith and not by sight on pursuing your goals.
DaBaby recently went viral after reverse hustling some kids who tried to sell him candy. After the kids tried to sell him their entire box of candy for $200, DaBaby opted to buy only $4.00 worth of candy. The internet is torn between did DaBaby teach the kids a valuable lesson or was he wrong for not spending more money with them?
In addition to Dababy, I discuss reasons to support black owned businesses like closing the racial wealth gap and strengthen local black communities with new resources and services. A 2017 study by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition found that banks were 2x times as likely to provide business loans to white applicants than black applicants and 3x times likely to have follow up meetings with white applicants than black applicants.

After gaining publicity for her record setting run at the Olympic trials, she tested positive for marijuana. Sha'Carri later accepted responsibility for her actions, however a number of people have criticized her for her actions.

Mobs of white residents brutaly attacked the thirving neighborhood of the Greenwood District and was labelled one of the worst incidents of racial violence in American history. A thriving black neighboord once know as Black Wall Street, one of the wealthiest black communies in the United States no longer exists.

May is Mental Health Awareness month! On this episode I mention some alarming statistics of how black americans struggle with mental health issues. In 2018, 58% of Black American young adults 18-25 and 50% of adults 26-49 with serious mental illness did not recieve treatment. These statistics are closely associated with the common stigma among black culture that mental health is taboo. We wear a mask because we have to be strong even when we don't want to. It is important to find a healthy space to let it all out. It is ok to cry but it is bad to hold it in.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announces that athletes will be banned from wearing Black Lives Matter apparel at games and during ceremonies. This comes after the IOC conducted a poll among Olympic athetes where majority of the poll are in favor of strict rules against demonstrations.

On this episode I talk about the unique testimonies during the Derek Chauvin trial. Testimonies from other officers, children young as 10 years old, 911 dispatchers, and others played a major part in the trial and conviction.
Does Derek Chauvin's conviction represent a changing of the times when it comes to law enforce and accountability?
As of May 2020 Derek Chauvin became the first white police officer in Minnesota to be charged in the death of a black civilian. Officers rarely testify against other officers, due to the culture of backlash they get from their peers when doing so.
Are testimonies similar to this trial the secret to greater accountability with law enforcement?
The shooting of Ma'Khia Bryant in Columbus, Ohio has left people with a lot of mixed emotions. The story behind her shooting has conflicted one another and the body camera footage released shows her attacking another girl with a knife. Though this evidence paints her as an aggressor there are mentions that she came from an abusive environment with her foster parents and she contacted the police because her life was in danger.
No matter the source or the situation, Ma'Khia Bryant's life mattered.
