Bit dramatic? I was hoping to say this after a playoff final win rather than the current mess, but I’ve decided to call time on the podcast. It’s something I’ve been weighing up for a while and, to be honest, it’s an acknowledgement that my heart’s just not in it quite as much as it used to be. Which, if I’m being blunt, you may have noticed at points last season. I started BladesPod eight years ago, which seems a long time to do anything really. My goal was to be something a little more “considered” than eg Praise or Grumble football phone-in style content, with fairly chill takes rather than clickbaity sensationalism. I hope that BladesPod has lived up to that in the main, but I’m now at a stage of life where United aren’t at the front of my mind anywhere near as much. Rather than put out something a bit rubbish or half-hearted, I think it’s just time to hang up the mic.I’ve hugely, hugely enjoyed my time recording and putting these podcasts out there, and the (generally!) good-natured feedback they’ve generated, even when it’s a difference of opinion. Above all it’s through this podcast that I’ve made some genuine friendships and met a load of people I don’t believe I’d ever have crossed paths with otherwise. As the pod’s lifetime has overlapped with me becoming a parent – not to mention living through a global pandemic – I can’t overstate how useful it’s been for my own mental health.I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s ever taken the time to record with me – Anna, Dave, Hal, and all the guest fans of other teams who I’ve ever had on, back when I had a bit more enthusiasm. To Jay, without whom I don’t think I’d have carried on going for this long: a man who was my gateway into football analytics as well as giving the enthusiasm and self-belief that we were doing something worth ours’ and other people’s time. It’s been awesome to see him find an amazing career in the game he devoted so much of his spare time to – one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever encountered. And of course, a huge thanks to Andrew – someone I’d never met or even spoken to before we recorded an episode together for the first time, and now probably a person I speak to more often than anyone who doesn’t share my surname. An absolute pleasure to record all those episodes with you – six years! – and the one thing that’s made me put off finishing the podcast for the last year or two. A legend of the Lane. Finally, a thank you to anyone who’s ever listened to the pod or otherwise interacted with me on social media etc. It was only because there appeared to be any audience for this at all that I kept doing it beyond the first amateurish episode. I really do appreciate that that audience continued right up to this day, and I hope you got at least some enjoyment out of the pod during its run.I’ll still be writing about Sheffield United Women on my newsletter WOMEN OF STEEL (http://womenofsteel.substack.com), and hopefully will keep writing about the men’s team for the Pinch and anywhere else that will accept a few words from me when they come to mind. But for now, that’s all folks. Thanks again for listening to us. UTB,Ben

Lots of big names up for discussion. Thanks for listening, UTB and happy new year!

Or, skip to 19 minutes and get an actual preview of our in-real-life game with Wolves this weekend.Cheers for listening, and UTB!

As the international break comes to a close, Ben and Andrew pick out some reasons to be cheerful and reasons to be fearful for the rest of United's Premier League season. Plus, we look ahead to our weekend trip to Spurs.
Cheers for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew review United picking up their first point of the season via the back of Jordan Pickford's head, and it would've been all three but for Jordan Pickford's face. Some afternoon for the England keeper, and some debut for Cameron Archer in an entertaining 2-2 draw. Thanks for listening and UTB!
Hal Stewart of Sheff Utd Way joins Ben this week to discuss a thrilling game with Man City, the delight of seeing United get a meaningful goal against the Champions, and all the other big moments from the game. We also discuss Cameron Archer's signing, hopes for the remainder of the transfer window, a big game with Everton, and Billy Sharp's LA Galaxy debut.
Thanks so much to Hal for joining me, and to you for listening. UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss some green shoots to come out of a second straight defeat for the Blades, as Gustavo Hamer swerves in United's first goal of the season and Vinicius Souza puts in an impressive debut in midfield before the ongoing lack of depth puts paid to a first point. Plus, we look ahead to the free hit of Man City at home, and two big weeks to get the squad straight before "the season really starts" in September.
Finally, I (Ben) am launching a newsletter today covering Sheffield United Women for the upcoming season, which you can subscribe to FREE now on Substack: https://womenofsteel.substack.com/subscribe
Ben and Andrew discuss the arrivals of Gustavo Hamer and Tom Davies before a brief-ish chat about Crystal Palace: a starting XI from our nightmares, but a hard-working effort from the Blades nonetheless. We also touch on Billy Sharp signing for LA Galaxy, and the Lionesses reaching the World Cup final as well as our game with Forest on Friday night.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss the Berge > Burnley sale, the arrival of Vinicius Souza, and the overall situation at the club on the eve of the new Premier League season. Then, after successfully (...) providing a multi-step plan for guaranteeing promotion last season, we turn our eyes towards mapping out what needs to go right for United to stave off relegation this time round - and how likely we think each one is to come off.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew give their final word on the Iliman Ndiaye departure and where it leaves United, before going head-to-head with some predictions with a difference ahead of the new season.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Things are starting to move at the Lane, and Ben and Andrew discuss the fact that Iliman Ndiaye is not currently one of them (despite Facebook Marketplace listings), plus the new signings of Anis Slimane, Yasser Larouci and Benie Traore.
Then, we give our 10 things that we're looking forward to this season, including: can Ndiaye be our Zaha, who will be the next Billy Sharp-esque leader, and the chance to right a few "wrongs" after the behind-closed-doors season.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
With 1 month to go until Sheffield United v Crystal Palace to start our Premier League campaign, Ben and Andrew go over the current state of the club... including Iliman Ndiaye potentially leaving sooner than we'd all like. We also discuss potential new signings, squad players penning new deals, next summer's contract malaise, and a vibe check on enthusiasm levels for the Premier League season. Finally, we look at a potentially exciting summer for United Women as they begin their transition towards full-time football.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew have a quick chat about United's first few fixtures of next season, before reminiscing about two modern Blades greats who have now departed the club: Enda Stevens and Jack O'Connell.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew go over United's released and retained list, and the end of an era for the Blades as Jack O'Connell, Enda Stevens and Billy Sharp depart the club. We'll be talking more about O'Connell and Enda next time, but the rest of this one is all about the skipper. We discuss what it meant to us having Sharp as captain and talisman of a successful (and, for that matter, occasionally unsuccessful) team, before picking out our ten favourite Billy Sharp goals from his Blades career.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew go head-to-head to see who can draft the best team from every player who's represented Sheffield United in the last 25 years. 3-5-2 is the formation, and position matters - no crowbarring George Baldock in at left wingback.Who ends up with the best XI at the end of the draft? Head to @bladespod on Twitter to cast your vote. Thanks for listening and UTB!
It's that time of year again: Ben and Andrew hand out player ratings to 22 eligible players from United's promotion winning 2022-23 season, with detailed reasoning for each one plus some discussion on the fringe players who didn't quite play enough to merit a rating. Does anyone crack 10/10 this year, and who will inherit Oli McBurnie's wooden spoon from last season? Settle in for almost 100 minutes of podcast on that very subject. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew wrap up the final two games of the Championship season as the Blades reach a club-record 91 points at this level, before picking out our 10 biggest moments from the season: the events and decisions that underpinned United's return to the Premier League. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew relish United's 4-1 victory lap over a fairly-pathetic Preston, as the promotion party shows no sign of stopping and John Fleck signs off (maybe?) with one last goal for the road. Plus, we compare this promotion to the 2019 Chris Wilder-led one, and also revisit our "How To Win Promotion" blueprint from preseason. Thanks for listening and UTB!
The Blades are going up: Ben and Andrew are tired but giddy and ramble their way through some immediate thoughts on United clinching a return to the Premier League by beating West Brom last night. Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew reflect on a grand day out in the capital, even if it was punctuated by the now-standard Wembley defeat. We also look ahead to West Brom at home and a chance to clinch promotion in front of a packed Bramall Lane crowd, and to once again say thank you to the players and manager for this season. Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew react to United picking up another three points in the pursuit of Premier League football, thanks to another goal from the Salford Silva. We also discuss Jack Robinson briefly turning into Zidane, before pondering what sort of team to pick against Man City and whether it really matters... what will be will be. Cheers for listening, and UTB!
The Blades dispatch Cardiff 4-1 on Saturday to nudge ever-closer to promotion, and Ben and Andrew discuss the game and the standout moments. Adam Davies somehow ends up facing another penalty, but James McAtee and Jack Robinson turn it around. Ciaran Clark makes a goalscoring return, and Iliman Ndiaye gets another. Promotion could be just a win or two away, and we look ahead to Bristol City tomorrow night. Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew catch up on the Easter weekend's games, as the Blades pick up three points on a day where the chasing pack slip up, but then do everything possible to lose the game against Burnley. We look back at Wigan and the match with the Clarets, the state of play with six games to go, Cardiff (H), EFL awards and a few other odds and ends. Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew catch up on a very good Saturday for the Blades, hopefully to be followed by an Even Gooder Friday against Wigan. First, United get a precious win at Norwich thanks to James McAtee, and there's further good news as Boro get Warnocked. We look ahead to Wigan at the Lane and also follow up on some of our favourite listener suggestions for "evening the odds" against Manchester City. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew catch up on the latest Blades news from the international break, and look ahead to our trip to Carrow Road this weekend. Then, we discuss novel ways to "even the odds" in our cup semifinal against Man City, including allowing United to play players from the last 20 years, excluding anyone who's played at Wembley before, and changing City's kit to something a bit more... unique. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew relive all the key moments of a phenomenal FA Cup quarterfinal against Blackburn, as United triumph thanks to a dramatic late Tommy Doyle goal. An action-packed afternoon with so much to enjoy - oh and we're off to Wembley again. Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew are feeling much more upbeat after a big response from the Blades who win at Sunderland to stretch the gap over the chasing pack. We discuss a bold team selection from Heckingbottom, impressive showings from Jebbison and McAtee in particular, a masterclass in shutting down a game, our latest brush with Matthew Donohue, and Don Goodman doing his best to rile up every United fan who watched that game on TV last night. Plus, we look ahead to our FA Cup Quarter-Final with Blackburn! Thanks for listening, and UTB!
The Blades defeat 18 inches of snow to get the game on but Ben and Andrew are left sort of wishing they hadn't, as United limp to a dull 1-0 loss to Luton. Pressure now builds ahead of a crucial game against Sunderland, and we're left wondering whether we need to trust the senior heads to turn it round, or to rip it up and start again... either way, bring on the next game. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew reflect on three vital points for the Blades, as they pick up a 1-0 win at Reading to take advantage of the infamous game in hand. Plus, a look ahead to what should be a tight game against Luton Town this weekend. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
It's been a while, hasn't it? Ben and Andrew return to summarise the last few weeks of United, as stumbles at Millwall and Blackburn are punctuated by a scrambling win over Watford and an impressive defeat of Spurs in the FA Cup. Thanks for listening - and for your patience - and UTB!
In a quick episode before the weekend, Ben and Andrew reflect on the defeat to Middlesbrough before looking ahead to Millwall tomorrow. Thanks for listening, for those dedicated enough to do so!
Ben and Andrew are full of praise for the Blades' dismantling of Swansea City to complete a Welsh hat-trick for the season, although less impressed by the Swans' commitment to getting in a flap and Matthew Donohue's interesting interpretation of the laws. We discuss the contrasting finishes of Sander Berge and Jack Robinson, Oli McBurnie bagging against his BFFs, and another big game midweek as Boro come to the Lane. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Andrew is back on the grass after his bout of Beattie Flu and joins Ben to discuss the lively FA Cup replay win over Wrexham. We talk about a full debut for Ismaila Coulibaly, Billy Sharp playing angry, a penalty finally being scored at the Lane end, Ndiaye nipping to the loo and plenty more. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben is joined by Hal Stewart of Sheff Utd Way to discuss the latest goings-on at Bramall Lane: we talk about a dull draw with Rotherham, the Wrexham rematch, keeping our best players on deadline day, the general off-field situation and lots more. Thanks very much to Hal for stepping in, and thanks to you for downloading and listening - UTB!
Ben and Andrew react to the news of United being placed under a transfer embargo by the EFL, before diving into yet another win as the Blades complete the double over Hull and Daniel Jebbison finds the net again. We also talk about Jack Robinson throwing a man through the crust of the Earth, stolen scarves, the chasing pack, and Wrexham in the cup this weekend. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew look back on yet another win for the Blades, this time over Stoke City: picking up points vs playing well, defending leads, the value of Jayden Bogle, Ndiaye's knock, the performances of Berge and Sharp, and also a look ahead to Friday night's clash with Hull City. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
The Blades cruise past Millwall in the FA Cup and it's Deadpool vs Crosspool in the next round: Ben and Andrew talk about the win, the draw, and Daniel Jebbison grabbing his second goal for the club. In the second half of the pod, we talk "Deal or No Deal" for the 11 players who are out of contract this summer - new contract immediately, wait 6 months, or set for release? There's a few big names up for discussion. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew talk over an eventful evening for John Egan at Loftus Road, as the Blades rally late to snatch a (deserved?) point at QPR. Plus some thoughts on the commentary box of nightmares. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss United picking up a fourth and fifth W in a row to complete a pretty-much-perfect festive period for the Blades, as they defeat Coventry and Blackpool and extend their lead over the chasing pack. James McAtee steps up, Iliman Ndiaye turns creator, and plenty of others put in solid performances as the Blades march on.Thanks for listening to BladesPod, and Happy New Year to you!
Ben and Andrew pick over United's moderately-comfortable win over Wigan, as the Blades make it six points out of six out of the World Cup break. John Egan locates the back of the net with his head, Billy Sharp scores yet another goyl and there's some tidy football to enjoy from Sander Berge, James McAtee and Iliman Ndiaye, plus a topless Ciaran Clark with a late entry for most amusing moment of the year.Next, Santa's been! We unwrap a few early Christmas presents for some of United's squad, and finally finish with wild speculation about the Blades' potential new owner(s).Thanks for listening, and happy Christmas to you!
Ben and Andrew talk through United's dull-but-welcome win over bottom side Huddersfield, which did at least feature another moment of inspiration from Iliman Ndiaye and a first league goal of the season for Billy Sharp. Plus, we give our thoughts on England failing to win the World Cup AGAIN, and who we'd like to see lift the trophy out of the final four. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew get their gamefaces on ahead of the resumption of the Blades' Championship season, including musings on Iliman Ndiaye at the World Cup, other goings-on at United over the last few weeks, who might be back to feature against Huddersfield, the upcoming run of fixtures, and what could be an epic Saturday. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
The Blades head into the World Cup break second in the table, and Ben and Andrew discuss a perfectly fine 1-0 win at Cardiff as United continue their excellent away record and bounce back after the Rotherham defeat. Oli Arblaster gets his first start, James McAtee makes a big impact, and George Baldock Hulk Smashes his way onto the scoresheet for the decisive goal. We also discuss Iliman Ndiaye heading to the World Cup, and congratulations once again to the Rainbow Blades for last night's win at the FSA Awards.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew crash back to earth after the Blades follow-up the hammering of Burnley with a desperately low-quality showing in a defeat to Rotherham. We try to pick the bones out of that one, and look ahead to Cardiff. One for the hardcore, this. Thanks if you do listen!
Hard to keep your feet on the ground after that one, so Ben and Andrew barely even try: United hammer Burnley 5-2 in a thrilling game at the Lane, with Oli McBurnie continuing his insanely good season as the Blades batter the league leaders. Plenty of praise for Ndiaye, Norwood, Baldock and almost-had-a-hat-trick Ahmedhodzic, Jack Robinson reliving his entire United career to date in one 90 minutes, the value of Ben Osborn, Basham in midfield, and plenty more. Plus - Rotherham tomorrow night!
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Back to back away wins for the Blades: Ben and Andrew discuss a fortuitous three points away at Bristol City but hey, they all count at the end of the season. We deliberate Heckingbottom's decision to yoink Khadra after barely half an hour, Ndiaye scoring again, a couple of hefty tackles - and also look ahead to the visit of table-topping Burnley on Saturday.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew have a Blades win to talk about - it may be Halloween but there wasn't much to be afraid of at the Hawthorns as United came home with a 2-0 win. Oli McBurnie scores again and heads away approximately a billion corners, but it's Iliman Ndiaye that we're waxing lyrical about once again. We also talk about a disappointing WBA, another injury(s), and look ahead to Bristol City tomorrow night.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew talk through another highly-entertaining game at Bramall Lane, as United battle back from 2-0 down at Norwich and almost win it (as well almost losing it). We discuss the puzzling team selection, guts vs quality, Norwich inexplicably winding everyone up, McBurnie once again stealing the show, and a goalscoring effort from Ben Osborn.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
A mini-episode as Ben and Andrew discuss a largely uneventful game with Coventry, although United still manage to lose the game via Chris Basham's error. RND joins the injury list, Khadra and Brewster remain conspicuously on the bench, although John Fleck returns to action. We also briefly touch on this weekend's match between two of the most out-of-form sides in the league.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew try to wrap their heads around one of the stupidest Blades games in recent memory as United draw 3-3 with Blackpool: six goals, four red cards, a missed penalty, a 98th-minute equaliser and a whole lot more.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew are not too downbeat about the defeat to Stoke as United's mishmash team come up short - Rhian Brewster's first of the season providing a bright spot, but old favourite Phil Jagielka sticks in the boot (or head). We try to avoid using the "i" word, talk about playing a back four, and look ahead to a now-quite-large game with Blackpool on Saturday.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew try to pick themselves up after a deflating defeat to QPR, as yet more players head off to the injury list and United can't recover from Chris Willock's goal. We try to work out what went wrong, have a few positive thoughts from the first half particularly, and then discuss what might come next as we head to Stoke on Saturday.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew give a quick recap of the Blades' struggling to a humdrum draw against Birmingham, although Oli McBurnie's 5th goal of the season and a return of Jayden Bogle prove to be bright spots in a dull game. Then, some brief thoughts on tomorrow night's game with QPR, and the end of Chris Wilder at Middlesbrough.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss the latest news from the international break, before reviewing what's working and what isn't in United's season so far - what's gone better than expected, and what might be a possible cause for concern the rest of the way? We also preview this weekend's game with Birmingham as the Blades finally return to Bramall Lane after more than a month.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew talk through the Blades' third consecutive away win as the Blades stay top courtesy of a 2-0 win at Preston North End that means United have now scored more goals at Deepdale than the home side. We discuss the value of United's extra star quality to win tight games, whether Ndiaye is the best player in the Championship (!), Double-hard Sander Berge, and a possible forthcoming conundrum over who should play right-wingback.
We'll be back next week, enjoy the international break and thanks for listening - UTB!
Ben and Andrew go through the Blades' latest win, a 1-0 victory at Swansea City, to cement their position at the top of the Championship. An Ahmedhodzic intervention keeps it level before the subs sink the Swans: Rhian Brewster and Reda Khadra providing a moment of quality. There's more praise for perpetual man-of-the-match candidate Rhys Norrington-Davies, Chris Basham playing on the left, and Swansea's slightly puzzling approach. Plus, a look ahead to our trip to Preston this weekend.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew break down United's first away win of the season, as the Blades take down the Tigers on their own patch in a 2-0 victory. Oli McBurnie makes it 3 in 3 before Sander "I'm not f'in leaving" Berge seals the deal. We also discuss the impressive Rhys Norrington-Davies, whether that corner routine needs throwing in the bin, Mark Duffy's punditry, Oliver Arblaster making his debut, and everything else that caught our eye from the win. Finally, we wrap up all the news from transfer deadline day, and preview Rotherham at home this weekend.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben is joined by special guest Hal Stewart of Sheff Utd Way to talk about the resounding 4-0 win over Reading as United continue their perfect home form and go back to the top of the early season table. We discuss the latest in a run of impressive performances from Max Lowe, Oli McBurnie and Rhys Norrington-Davies, the potential ceilings of Ahmedhodzic and Ndiaye, and a solid first start in midfield for Tommy Doyle.
Huge thanks to Hal for joining me for this one, and thanks to you for listening. UTB!
Ben and Andrew give a snap reaction to the 1-1 draw with Luton in this episode, as Oli McBurnie finally bags a league goal (and what a goal it was too). United's injury list gets even lengthier meaning Jordan Amissah has to deputise in goal - and does a grand old job for a player who doesn't even have a Wikipedia page yet.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss the Blades' dismantling of Blackburn Rovers at the weekend, as Heckingbottom's side power to the top of the early Championship table. We get (possibly far too) excited about the potential of the squad as a whole, but particularly Iliman Ndiaye who scored possibly one of the best goals ever seen at Bramall Lane. Praise too for McBurnie, Lowe, Norrington-Davies and quite a few more. Next challenge... can we do it away? Luton are up next, and we preview that game towards the end of the episode.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss the Blades' 2-1 win over Sunderland, as the Black Cats see red and are slightly fortunate to stay at 10 men. We get a little bit excited about the potential of Ahmedhodzic, and have plenty of praise for Max Lowe, cameos from Khadra and McBurnie, and Heckingbottom's use of the bench. Finally, we look ahead to Saturday's game with table-topping Blackburn.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew go through the entertaining 2-2 draw at Chris Wilder's Middlesbrough, as Sander Berge and a Ryan Giles own goal twice put the Blades ahead but defensive lapses see the points slip away. We discuss Max Lowe's game of two halves, Brewster's promising cameo, and some questionable use (or non-use) of substitutes...
Finally, we finish with a preview of this week's game with Sunderland, talk briefly about the new kits, and Lys Mousset has a Bundesliga club!
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew go through the win over Millwall, Ahmedhodzic's brilliant debut, and more encouraging showings from Ciaran Clark, John Fleck and a few others... although that might be the end of Norwood on penalties for a little while. Plus, we look ahead to the cup game with West Brom, and Boro away on Sunday.
Thank you for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew talk through the Blades' opening day defeat to Watford, a spectacular moment of shooting oneself in the foot, and an impressively poor showing from Max Lowe off the bench. But, help may be on the way in the form of new signing James McAtee from Man City, who hopefully will be here in time to face Millwall on Saturday. That's how we finish this week: a look ahead to our first home game of the season, and the latest installment of Jake Cooper's personal mission to ruin United's day.
Thank you as always for listening, and UTB!
Our 2022/23 Season Preview Extravaganza is here: Ben and Andrew discuss the arrivals of Reda Khadra and Ciaran Clark, a few players heading out on loan, and the best / worst case scenarios for United this season. Then, predicting who's going up, who's going down, who's going to surprise, who will be United's Player Of The Season, and plenty more. Finally, a look ahead to Watford, and some words on seeing the Women's Euros at Bramall Lane.
Thank you as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew return to drill into all the latest Blades news, including the signings of Anel Ahmedhodzic and Tommy Doyle, the departure of Oli Burke, the possible arrival of Tom Lawrence and other rumours.
Then, we basically tell Hecky what to do in 2022/23 in our section How To Win Promotion: everything that needs to go right / be different from last season, and how achievable we actually think that is...
Thank you as always for listening, and UTB!
With 2021-22 in the books, it's time for Ben and Andrew to dish out their marks out of 10 for the entire squad. Does anyone receive a perfect 10? Who's got room for improvement next season, who are we glad to see the back of, and who's got us excited for 2022-23? Find out right here, dear listener...

Ben and Andrew reflect on an excellent if gutting night against Nottingham Forest, as United put in a superb performance in overturning the first leg deficit but ultimately fall on penalties to a brilliant goalkeeper and one pesky drinks bottle.
In the second half of this episode, we reflect on the Blades career of one of our favourite-ever players, David McGoldrick, whose time at United has drawn to a close. We pick out our top McGoldrick moments from his four years in red and white.

Andrew is away so Ben is here with a quick solo pod breaking down the Blades, well, breaking down in the first leg of the playoffs against Nottingham Forest. Contains a few reasons to be cheerful, more than a few reasons to be fearful, and some things that need to happen for us to turn it right around (hope that Forest have a "Leeds 2019" moment in them).

It's the Enda the season... but not for us: United storm into the playoffs with a final day hammering of the Championship's champions, Fulham, and Ben and Andrew break it all down here. A sellout crowd, a buzzing atmosphere, and a dominant display from the Blades as our dynamic front three do the business, John Egan keeps Mitrovic under wraps, and Enda Stevens even pops up with a rare goal.
A brilliant day at the Lane, same again on Saturday? It's United v Forest in the playoffs and we get into that as well, plus player of the season awards and a few other odds and ends. Thanks for listening, and UTB!

Ben and Andrew are back, and the Blades' playoff destiny is still in their own hands after an impressive second-half comeback at QPR on Friday night. We talk about Iliman Ndiaye's poaching instincts, Jack Robinson's redemption, Billy Sharp's new contract (yay), Billy Sharp's new injury (boo), and every permutation ahead of the final game of the season, at home to Fulham. Oh, and also an update on the proposed takeover of the club.

Ben and Andrew are impressed with some of the Blades' football at Bristol City but ultimately frustrated as United appear to settle for a point when all three might have been, well, more useful for our attempts to make the top six. Morgan Gibbs-White gets his 10th goal, Basham's back, Ndiaye leaves us with heads in hands, and now Cardiff becomes an absolute must-win (probably) in the battle of who-wants-to-finish-higher-than-seventh.

Nothing Good about that Friday, as defeat to Reading leaves United hoping for a miraculous revival of form against Bristol City - Ben and Andrew react to a disastrous performance at home which leaves the Blades with lots (too much?) to do, even as United continue to sit in the top six at the time of recording...
Thank you for listening, and here's to a better showing on Monday evening.

Ben and Andrew recap an eventful if goalless game against Bournemouth, with some missed chances, bizarre refereeing, great goalkeeping, hilarious throw-in mishaps, and plenty more. Plus, thoughts on Neil Warnock finally hanging up his tracksuit and confirming his retirement from football (for now...), and a look ahead to our Good Friday game with Reading.

The Blades spice up the international break by... signing a Croatian international?! Ben and Andrew discuss the Filip Uremovic signing before revisiting the squad ranking list we created back in November (post-Blackburn, pre-Heckingbottom): every player ordered from "keep and build around" down to "get rid of immediately". More than a few players have changed places since then - but who's the biggest risers and fallers? Listen on!

The Blades finally make it to the promised land of the international break, signing off a gruelling run of games with a comfortable-if-uninspiring 2-0 defeat of Barnsley. Billy Sharp's hamstring is cause for concern, McBurnie has an interesting cameo, goal machine Berge does it again, and MGW is MGW.

A slightly belated episode, as Ben and Andrew discuss the Coventry and Blackpool games, where we seem to have found the answer to the question of "how many missing players is too many missing players". A dreadful drubbing at Coventry was followed by a worthy point at 'Pool, and now we turn to Barnsley before finally getting to an international break (and hopefully some more players back).

So, uh, that went well. Ben and Andrew relive a phenomenal 4-1 victory and performance by the Blades over Chris Wilder's Middlesbrough, with Morgan Gibbs-White particularly unplayable but awesome showings from others including Sander Berge, Billy Sharp and Oli Norwood. We discuss how it felt seeing Wilder back at the Lane, United's new-found aggression, Sander Berge's handsomeness, and of course, that fourth goal.

Ben and Andrew discuss an exciting night at the Lane, as United almost get away with all three points before a late equaliser. We look at Femi Seriki's full debut, more Wes heroics, the value of having Gibbs-White and Sharp on the pitch, and plenty more. Oh, and we also discuss Chris Wilder coming back to Bramall Lane for the first time, as the Blades take on Boro on Tuesday night in yet another big game.

Ben and Andrew chat through a dire game at the Den as the Blades fall 1-0 to Millwall, courtesy of an obligatory Jake Cooper goal - that said, the mood is still pretty upbeat after this one, with plenty of mitigating circumstances for the defeat and a big game coming up with Forest on Friday night.

Ben and Andrew gibber excitedly about a brilliant night under the lights at Bramall Lane, as 10-man United score a dramatic injury-time winner over Blackburn Rovers at the end of a spicy encounter. Ben and Andrew discuss a stunning performance from United as they annihilate Swansea 4-0 to move into the playoff places for the first time this season. We focus on a remarkable goal from George Baldock, an unplayable performance from Morgan Gibbs-White, an excellent outing for Sander Berge, and another mini-masterclass from Oli Norwood - at least, until it comes to finishing chances into open nets. Plus, bafflement at Swansea's tactics, and a preview of our midweek rematch with Blackburn Rovers.

It's another 0-0 for the Blades, and Ben and Andrew discuss a mixture of bright spots and frustrations from the draw with Hull City - including particular focus on McBurnie, Norwood, Baldock, Norrington-Davies and Jebbison, as well as pod favourite George Honeyman - before previewing a now even-bigger home game with Swansea at the weekend.

Ben and Andrew give some quick thoughts on a decent point at an in-form Huddersfield Town, as United stay in touching distance of the playoffs while continuing their own good run. A commendable defensive performance from the back three, less positivity in the opposition half, a rub of the green and finally a late rally that almost pinched all three points (to be clear re: the title, I don't totally believe that we were super-lucky today, just ran out of inspiration with the title). On to Hull!

Ben and Andrew are in fine spirits as United exact a measure of revenge for the early season debacle at the Hawthorns, with a 2-0 win over Steve Bruce's West Bromwich Albion. Ben and Andrew are impressed with United's third successive win, as the Blades come from behind to record a rare win at Birmingham City and exact a measure of revenge for the first game of the season. Excellent goals from Sharp and Bogle get them over the line, and there's also plenty of praise for the way Fleck and Berge stepped up in the second half. Thoughts now turn towards the rematch with West Brom, now managed by nemesis Steve Bruce, and we've got a preview of that game at the end of the episode.

The less said about Blackburn the better, and Chris Wilder has a new job - not a great weekend to be a Blades fan, although it did at least remove any lingering doubt about the future of a lot of this squad. Ben and Andrew rank the entire first team, starting with players that we'd most like to keep to build around, through players where it might be time to listen to offers for, right down to players we're happy to take a loss on if it means moving them right along.

Ben and Andrew aren't in the mood to pull any punches after another frustrating defeat at Bramall Lane, as United somehow fail to find the back of the net v Blackpool and fall to the all-too-familiar second half sucker punch. But some positive notes on a vibrant front three, and a look ahead to Nottingham Forest tomorrow night including the question of whether we should consider fielding an all-ex-Forest team to confuse/jinx our way to an away win.

Ben and Andrew have mixed feelings after a 3-2 win at Barnsley, but still enjoyed a rare slice of the Lys Mousset experience as his goals plus another productive showing from Ben Osborn are (just about) enough to beat a lacklustre Barnsley. Plus, a preview of this week's visitors, Blackpool FC.

Ben and Andrew try to make sense of last night's trip to the Twilight Zone aka a truly baffling, freaky game against Millwall in which Jake Cooper continues his bizarre scoring streak against the Blades. Millwall score from a cross, Gibbs-White sees red, the ref loses the plot, McGoldrick achieves the almost-impossible, and Hourihane gets a first-half hook. Bring your confused face.

Ben and Andrew talk through the season so far, including the Bournemouth game, and ask which of our opinions have changed the most in the 11 games to date. We discuss Sharp having the last word, Norwood rolling back the years, a few worries over our fullbacks, and a hat-tip to Phil Jagielka on his 700th career game. Ben and Andrew look back on a pretty pretty good week for the Blades, as they make it 11 goals in the last 3 games with a blissfully routine 3-1 win at Hull. We discuss Billy Sharp marking his 300th Blades appearance with the inevitable, plus more brilliance from Morgan Gibbs-White (let us keep him please), a debut for Adlene Guedioura, and a few worries about Brewster. A bit of a sickening end as the Blades throw away a couple of points at the death against Preston, although Ben and Andrew see more than a few positives among the heaps of frustration. We discuss the game in detail, including another shocker by Jack Robinson, what we hope is a one-off shocker from Robin Olsen, the continuing impact of Morgan Gibbs-White, and a fabulous team move for what should have been the winning goal by Sander Berge. Also discussed! The signing of Adlene Guedioura, Daniel Johnson turning into Ronaldo against us, and what to expect ahead of this weekend's GRUDGE MATCH with Hull City.

Goals galore as the Blades register a scoreline that needs brackets on the videprinter (SIX), in one of the best performances for a very long time. Ben and Andrew break down the unreal impact of debutants Iliman Ndiaye and Morgan Gibbs-White, the brilliance of Billy Sharp and his hat-trick of assists, and a thrilling attacking display by the whole team. Plus, a look ahead to Preston tomorrow night, a little bit of misty-eyed reflection on a very enjoyable Saturday afternoon as a whole, and an important update on Andrew's Colombia shirt.

Ben and Andrew can’t find much to smile about despite Billy Sharp reaching the landmark 250 career goals, as we discuss another ineffective performance culminating in defeat to Huddersfield. Debuts for Ben Davies, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Wes Foderingham, but much more needed as the clock ticks towards the transfer deadline.
Thank you for listening, O dedicated listener and follower of the Blades.

Ben and Andrew digest a miserable midweek for United as we lose both a game and our goalkeeper. At least Ben Davies is in the building, and is more help on the way? We reflect on the strange, brief Blades career of Aaron Ramsdale, and look ahead to a huge game with Huddersfield at the weekend.
Thank you for listening, and UTB!

United are on the board for the season with a first point - Ben and Andrew discuss the 0-0 draw at Swansea as Slav rolls out a wacky formation and we almost-nearly score a goal. Next, a look ahead to a difficult game with West Brom, a re-examination of the Callum Robinson > Oli Burke deal, and the latest rumours on Aaron Ramsdale's future.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
It's the first podcast of the new season! Ben and Andrew discuss a somewhat disappointing first outing for Slavisa Jokanovic's new-look United, spotlighting a few kinks in the system and a few individuals who stood out... or gave cause for concern. Then, a brief interlude of being misty-eyed about having a full crowd back at the Lane, before discussing last night's win over Carlisle in the Cup - a first goal for Rhian Brewster, and some impressive debuts from a handful of young Blades. Finally, a look ahead to Swansea City at the weekend.
Thank you very much for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss their childlike excitement for the new season, catching up on the latest Blades news before getting into a preseason preview. We present a best and worst case scenario for United, looking at what needs to go right for us to have a great season... and what might happen that sends us in the opposite direction. Finally, we make our predictions for promotion, relegation, player of the season, top scorer and more - before finishing with yet more excited talk about the first game of the season.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew catch up on the latest with the Blades, as Ben wonders if this is the perfect time to panic about a disrupted preseason, plus the news of Jack O'Connell's op, and the mounting rumours of Aaron Ramsdale to Arsenal. Finally, we reflect on the joy, pain and pride of England's Euro 2020 journey.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew catch up on the most pressing issues facing Slavisa Jokanovic as he officially takes charge at United, and recap some of the latest news from the club. Then, we get a bit giddy about England's progress through Euro 2020, as well as our enjoyment of the tournament as a whole.
Thanks for listening, UTB and come on England!
It took a while but as SUFC start to move forward with a new manager, we were finally ready to take a misty-eyed look back on the Chris Wilder years at Sheffield United - the state of the club when Wilder took over, the norms that he shattered while in charge, and how it felt being managed to success by one of our own.
Thanks for listening - Ben and Andrew will be back in a couple of weeks. UTB!
Ben and Andrew give their thanks to the departing Simon Moore before giving a rating to every player in the squad for the completed 2020/21 season - the good, the bad, and the very ugly - including some fond words for Phil Jagielka bowing out as a Blade.
Thanks for listening to this mammoth pod, and UTB!
A quick bonus podcast for the weekend as Ben and Andrew give their immediate thoughts on Slavisa Jokanovic being named as the new Blades boss.
Thanks for listening and UTB!
The season from hell is finally over, and the Blades sign off on a positive note with a 1-0 win over Burnley. Ben and Andrew talk about the game, including how it felt to step back in Bramall Lane for the first time in 15 months, before revisiting our preseason predictions from way way back in the autumn (spoiler, we got some terribly wrong).
Thank you as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss Dan Jebbison putting a smile on our faces with United's sixth win of the season, along with other recent Blades news (£40 tickets, you say?) before talking through some silver linings of relegation: no VAR, still no Sheffield derbies, but presumably a lot more goals and wins.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew catch up on the Blades' 5th league win of the season, before attempting to select - and rank - the 10 most important players of the Chris Wilder era at Sheffield United. There's some healthy debate as we try to fit certain players into the top 10... which unfortunately means some well-loved names miss out. Find out who makes the cut, and who's the overall number 1, right here.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew give their thoughts on United's belatedly-confirmed relegation, the short-lived Super League and what it means for the future of football, plus for this episode's Memorable Match we return to a thrilling 3-3 draw with West Ham at Bramall Lane in 2004.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew catch up on a couple of weeks' worth of Blades news as the club drift on in limbo, including Prince Abdullah's revealing interview, the search for a new manager, and the club's recently-released accounts.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss the first "proper" game of the post-Wilder era, as United blow their chances to equalise and eventually fall 2-0 to Chelsea to exit the FA Cup. Next, for our Memorable Match this week, we return to 2006 and another victory at Hillsborough via Ade Akinbiyi's thunderous goal.
Thanks for listening, and UTB.
Ben and Andrew try to talk through their feelings after the end of Chris Wilder's reign as Sheffield United manager. We tried to consider all angles of how it got to this, what it means for Wilder, the Prince, the club as a whole, and what might come next.
Thanks for listening, and UTB.
Ben and Andrew discuss the home defeat to Southampton, including Che Adams' return and an almost legendarily-bad performance from a Blades midfielder. For the meat of this week's podcast, it's back to 2013 for our Memorable Match: Chris Morgan and David Unsworth form the hardest managerial pair possible, attempting to steer United from the wreckage of the Danny Wilson era and into the playoffs, starting with this dramatic 2-2 draw with Brentford. Perhaps better known as "the Keith Stroud game", it's a match that featured 11 yellows, 3 reds, and 4 penalties. Plus some fun facts about Dave Kitson's hair.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew talk through an heroic defensive effort from the ten men of United as they defeat Aston Villa and move off the dreaded 11 point mark: more VAR joy as Phil Jagielka sees a surprising red, brilliance from David McGoldrick, and then backs-to-the-wall stuff from a bunch of players who are still fighting.
Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew recap Aaron Ramsdale vs Liverpool from last night, before getting stuck into this week's Memorable Match: United's 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in April 2001, in the 100th league meeting between the two clubs. We discuss the match in detail before finishing with some of our favourite bits of trivia from the game, including Gilles de Bilde's dogs and Peter Shreeves' real name (???).
Thank you as always for listening, and UTB!
One for the hardcore BladesPod fans here - Ben and Andrew are naturally keen to move swiftly on from another drab defeat, this time to Fulham, and we're strangely enthusiastic to talk about the ridiculous 5-5 draw with Swindon in the 2015 League One Playoff Semifinal. We run through possibly the worst defence ever assembled by the Blades, the diverging paths of the two teams, and Swindon briefly becoming a hotbed of celebrity English footballers, plus a follow-up on pairs of brothers who've played for the Blades from our previous Memorable Match.
Thank you for listening, and UTB!
A bad trip to the capital for the Blades who get hammered at the London Stadium - Ben and Andrew are in grumpy moods after that one, pondering our lack of quality at both ends of the pitch albeit with some positive words for Aaron Ramsdale keeping the scoreline semi-respectable.
Thank you for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew recap United's progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals after their latest victory over the city of Bristol, before sending it back to April 2006 and a dramatic game against Hull City as the Blades chase promotion - 2-0 up, back to 2-2 with a punch-drunk goalkeeper, and then enter David Unsworth...
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew react to a battling defeat to Chelsea, particularly a truly bizarre 70 seconds or so involving a Rudiger own goal and then Kean Bryan having a moment to forget. We finish this week by looking ahead to the bigger game (IMO) that is Bristol City at home in the FA Cup, and how much that matters for this season and beyond.
Thanks for listening and UTB!
This winning thing is quite good really, isn't it? I recommend we do it more often. Ben and Andrew discuss last night's win over WBA, with much praise for the senior players getting it together in the last few weeks (and one of Chris Basham's very finest games), as well as Jayden Bogle as the second coming of Keiron Freeman. Also some thoughts on how last night serves as a neat comparison between the differing approaches that ourselves and West Brom have taken off the field: one standing firm, the other changing manager and throwing more money at the problem.
Thank you for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew give their thoughts on the 1-0 defeat to Man City, as the Blades emerge with a 2-2 draw vs the city of Manchester this week. Some words on the gameplan, a few standout individuals, and overall feeling fairly upbeat even with the loss.
Then, our Memorable Match this week is a doubleheader: the 2009 Championship Playoff Semifinal against Preston North End, featuring the likes of Greg Halford, Brian Howard, and John "The Beast" Parkin...
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
What just happened?! Ben and Andrew try to find the words for the Blades' historic win at Old Trafford, the first away win over Manchester United for almost 50 years. We talk about fearing the worst ahead of the game to being hugely impressed with the team's approach and play, running through all the big moments and finally discussing the many many individuals who played a collective blinder.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew with a quick bonus pod to discuss the win over Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup - the old hands of Sharp and Basham getting the goals, VAR somehow failing to award a penalty, and yet more question marks at the back.
Thanks for listening and UTB!
The Blades get back to losing ways against Tottenham, and Ben and Andrew are left scratching their heads at some woeful defending not least from Oli Norwood. Plus, McGoldrick the goal machine, Lee Hendrie driving us to hit that mute button, and an Anton Chekhov reference.
To lighten the mood, this week's Memorable Match is a balloon-inflicted defeat on Manchester City in the 4th round of the 2008 FA Cup: Bryan Robson's last hurrah. Finally, we finish this week by looking ahead to next week's visit of Plymouth Argyle, and a chance to get another of those W things.
Thank you very much for listening, and UTB!
Just when you thought it couldn't get better than beating Bristol Rovers, the Blades lay waste to the Steve Bruce voodoo with an excellent 1-0 win over Newcastle United that finally ends all those horrible stats we have to hear about every week. Ben and Andrew discuss a dramatic and much-needed win in which basically the entire team played well, even if Jayden Bogle did give us a heart attack right at the end.
In the second half of the pod, this week's Memorable Match is the 2015 EFL Cup Semifinal second leg against Tottenham Hotspur, where an 18 year old Che Adams fired his first professional goals in a lively game at the Lane.
Thanks for listening, particularly those who have been sticking it out for all those defeats. You're all great. UTB.
At long last, the Blades finish on the winning side, and WHO CARES if it was against League One opposition? Not Ben and Andrew, certainly, who are in a buoyant mood talking about our first win in six months, and a fun cup tie overall. Includes a comparison between Oli Burke and Happy Gilmore, and the joys of VAR-less football.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew tick off the Palace game and discuss the one bright spot, namely 16-year-old Antwoine Hackford becoming our youngest ever Premier League player. In the second half of the podcast, we kick off a new section on Memorable Matches, dipping into the archive to relive a meaningful game from the past. Firstly, an infamous night match vs Port Vale in 1999, and finally, the replay that never should have been: Arsenal vs the Blades in the FA Cup.
Thank you as always for listening, and UTB!
Santa wasn't able to deliver the three points we'd been hoping for, but Ben and Andrew are here to talk about it anyway: digesting a more attacking formation, more predictable results, the manager's position, and a look ahead to a probable classic against Burnley.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Twas the pod before Christmas... Ben and Andrew are full of festive cheer as the Blades double their points tally for the season with a spirited draw at Brighton. We discuss the merits of Oli Burke, a wild Bogle appearing and making an immediate impact, and some defensive improvements. Plus, we finish off by giving out some imaginary gifts to the Blades squad.
Thanks for listening and happy Christmas!
A quick-ish pod to discuss an eventful, quite stupid game with Manchester United on Thursday night - McGoldrick on fire, Jagielka's disastrous cameo, and a bit of fight from the Blades in the face of adversity.
Thanks for listening and UTB!
Stop me if you've heard this before, but United are well beaten again and Ben and Andrew are struggling for positives. Contains many thoughts - most of them bad - on the team selection, the performance, the tactics, and what might happen next. Plus, musings on how we should approach the January transfer window.
Another week, another single goal loss, but Ben and Andrew cannot be defeated so easily: reaction to the Leicester City game, including a bounceback performance from Oli McBurnie, ponderings over what's happened to the rest of our team, a bit of respect for Kean Bryan, and plenty more besides.
Thanks as always for listening, it is very much appreciated. UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss United's baffling day in front of goal, Kean Bryan's debut, and where we go from here - plus, in the spirit of last week's Thanksgiving and attempting to lift the mood a bit, we list our reasons to be thankful for being a Blade. Cheers, as always, for listening, and UTB!
Not going great, is it? Nonetheless, Ben and Andrew talk through the West Ham game, a match we lost without Robert Snodgrass even having to set foot on the pitch. I hope you enjoy it more than the match itself, albeit that is a very low bar to clear.
Thank you for listening, and UTB. Hopefully soonish.
Ben and Andrew give out their quarter season awards, including their Blades Player of the Year so far (tough field), Biggest Surprise, Biggest Disappointment, Best Opposition Player, and POTY / Manager of the Year from the rest of the Premier League. Finally, a preview of this weekend's game with West Ham, including revisiting the last time the Hammers came to the Lane...
Thank you as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss where this defeat sits in the (admittedly short) list of worst performances under Wilder, as United are swatted aside by Frank Lampard's Chelsea™. Mentions for McGoldrick's revenge tour, woeful defending and curious substitutions, as well as somewhat improbable mentions of Gordon Brown, Kill Bill, Donald Trump and Tool, plus the death of PPV.
Thanks as always for listening, even when the going is tough. Back next week, UTB!
Ben and Andrew talk through a toothless defeat to Man City, as old boy Kyle Walker rocks up and scores a 30-yard winner. We go over the limp attacking display, an inability to get Brewster the ball, the Lundstram contract news, and other key takeways from the game. Finally, giving thanks to our city neighbours' ineptitude, and who won the week in the Premier League.
Ben and Andrew discuss possibly our best performance of the season so far as the Blades give Liverpool a game at Anfield - the key moments and key performers, including Ethan Ampadu, Ben Osborn, Oli McBurnie, John Egan and Furious George Baldock. Finally, we give out our Alternative Man of the Match and nominate our winners from around the Premier League this weekend.
Ben and Andrew break down a stereotypical game of two halves as the Blades finally register their first point against Fulham: lots to discuss in the team selection, McBurnie's finishing, a debut for Rhian Brewster, a brilliant-but-infuriating first 45 followed by a nightmare second half, Jack Robinson's moment of madness, a weird VAR award, and Billy Sharp's 99th Blades goal.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew talk through an eventful few days for English football before giving an in-depth preview of this weekend's Fulham game. Then, we review some early season narratives in the Premier League and decide whether we think they'll continue or are just a mirage - will football be this crazy for the whole season? Can Everton genuinely challenge at the top? Is there a "surprise" relegation candidate out there? And is Dominic Calvert-Lewin the best English striker right now?
Cheers as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew vent their frustrations at a poor performance at Arsenal, more baffling officiating, and the joys of finally finding the back of the net. Then, we give a rating to our transfer window as a whole, including some in-depth discussion of record signing Rhian Brewster, before finishing with the big winners from this weekend in the Premier League.
Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew try to come to terms with what is basically the worst possible start to our season, including the Jack O'Connell injury, but also some bright spots in the performances of Ramsdale, Ampadu, Burke and Berge in yesterday's defeat. Then, transfer deadline chat, a look ahead to Arsenal, and who won the week in the Premier League.
Can we occlude this start of the season from memory? Ben and Andrew talk through the big moments from the Villa game, Oli Burke's debut, look ahead to Leeds, and who won the week in the Premier League.
Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew discuss the Blades season opener against Wolves, weighing up some overreactions vs genuine concerns, as well as looking ahead to Burnley and Aston Villa - plus, who won the week in the Premier League?
Thanks as always for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew react to the signings of Ethan Ampadu, Jayden Bogle, Max Lowe and Oli Burke, before moving onto their predictions for next season: how will United do? Who will get relegated? Who's making the top four? Who will be surprisingly good/bad? How many goals will Billy Sharp score? And which Sheffield team will end the season on more points?
Thanks for listening!
Ben is joined this week by former frequent contributor to BladesPod, the one and only Jay aka Blades Analytic, to talk transfers and answer your questions. Discussing the state of the transfer market, new faces that would immediately fit our team, breakthrough prospects, the Luke Freeman loan, and if you had to clone one United player ten times to make an XI, who would be the best player to choose?
Thanks to Jay, thanks to you for listening, and UTB!

Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew score every player out of 10 from the 2019/20 season, plus pick out three first-teamers that we might look at upgrading...

Plus, every team in the Premier League summarised in a single word, and finally a revisiting of our preseason predictions from last summer (some of which have not aged well).
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew tick off the final game of the 2019/20 campaign and reflect on the season as a whole as the Blades finish 9th in their first year back in the Premier League. There's some love for Leon, respect for Redmond, chiding for Che, and some other non-alliterative thoughts too - plus, we attempt to pick a few players from the three relegated sides that we'd realistically like the Blades to try and sign.
Thank you for listening to this episode, and right the way through the season. Couldn't do it without you!
Finally, as mentioned in this episode: Blades fan James Kemp has been cycling to every away game this season to raise money for the Children's Hospital Charity - and you can still donate! He has already smashed his £10,000 target but that's no reason to stop now - amazing effort by James, here is the link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/james-kemp1889
The Blades' hopes of Europe finally come to an end in the 37th game of the season (!) - Ben and Andrew react to a disappointing game with Everton, plus discuss the signing of Will Foderingham and what it means for the future of Dean Henderson, the Lys Mousset situation and general lack of squad depth in attack, George Baldock vs Luca Digne Pt 2, a pressure-free trip to Southampton on Sunday, and ponder whether anyone outside of S2 is going to mention Hawkeye's ghost goal ever again?
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew react to not only United's disappointing showing against Leicester, but also Wilder's no-holds-barred post-match fury, our respect for Jamie Vardy, a dominant performance from Wilfried Ndidi, and a thank-god-for-that effort from Dean Henderson in goal. Finally, a look at the permutations for the rest of the season, not only for United but also which teams we think will go down - and which ones we want to.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
The McGoalDrought is OVER! Ben and Andrew attempt to do justice to one of the best results in United's modern history, and the performance that went with it... plus a ton of appreciation for that man, David McGoldrick, breaking his duck and then adding another one for good measure. Also discussed: the tactical battle between Wilder and Lampard, Jorginho getting sent for a Bovril, Hendo's towering header, plus a look ahead to Leicester later this week.
Thanks for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew react to United's dramatic last-minute win over Wolves to round off a fantastic 6 days for the Blades. We pick out some key performers, discuss Wolves' second half record (apparently it's quite good?), the job done on Adama Traore, Osborn's nonstop energy, a good cameo from Zivkovic, football played in the right spirit, and of course that towering header by John Egan from Cork. Finally, a few words ahead of the Chelsea game at the weekend.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Shoulda won, shoulda lost, take the point? Ben and Andrew are pretty upbeat about United coming from behind to get a 1-1 draw with Burnley, especially with John Egan bagging his first Premier League goal. We go through the game, the Blades' tactical switches, pick out a few key performers, and discuss Jack Rodwell briefly trending on Twitter.
Finally, a preview of our game with Wolves at Bramall Lane this week.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ah come on, it's not like they ever went away really is it? Plus, we take a close look at the performances of Berge and McBurnie, talk about Jack Robinson's long throw, let off some steam about Paul Tierney and Steve McManaman, and have a look ahead to Spurs on Thursday (Spursday).
Thanks for listening and UTB!
Ben and Andrew give their thoughts on United being completely outclassed at Old Trafford, whether there's anything we could have done differently, and what the long-term implications might be. Finally, a lengthy preview of this weekend's FA Cup tie with Arsenal, who seem to be competing with the Blades for the title of "which team is having the worst time of it since football came back"...
Cheers for listening, and UTB!
Steve Bruce Voodoo strikes again as the Blades turn in one of their worst performances under Chris Wilder - Ben and Andrew vent their feelings on an embarrassing showing before discussing the state of the first week back generally, and look ahead to the small matter of Manchester United away in a few days...
Thanks for listening, you are truly dedicated if you get through this one ;)

Thanks for listening throughout the lockdown, and UTB!
With one week to kickoff, Ben and Andrew go through a "refresher lesson" to recap the state of the Premier League, and give our take on what to watch our for: when will Liverpool win the league, who's in Champions League contention, who's going down, which United players have the most to prove, is home advantage out the window, and will David McGoldrick score a Premier League goal?
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Two weeks from TODAY, we'll be watching the red and white wizards back in action! Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Ben and Andrew pick up the story of 2013/14 in January with the arrival of Brayford, Scougall and Harris - from the low of Crewe away to the FA Cup wins over Fulham, Forest and Charlton on the way to Wembley, plus the setting of a new club record.
Thanks as always for listening, and UTB!
Football is coming back! But before it does, Ben and Andrew take another dip into the Blades' past, this time heading back to the summer of 2013 and United's attempt at a footballing revolution under David Weir. It... did not go so well. But then Nigel Clough took over and it got better (at least, until it didn't). A season with 22 debutants, some fantastic memories, some rotten ones, and the arrival of Prince Abdullah as joint-owner of the club: lots to talk about, look out for Part 2 soon!
In Part 2 of our review of the 2016/17 season - Chris Wilder's first as Sheffield United manager - Ben and Andrew pick up the story in early February as the Blades march to promotion.
(Spoiler alert, we don't lose a single game in this episode).
Cheers for listening, don't miss Part 1 if you've not seen it - UTB!
Ben and Andrew head back to where it all began: the summer of 2016/17, our sixth year in League One, when Chris Wilder came home. We relive every game and every signing throughout the season - look out for Part 2 soon.
Cheers for listening, and UTB!

In Part One, we look at the first half of the season, culminating in the win over Liverpool, and the Michael Brown-inspired derby win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Thanks for listening, Part Two will be out very soon!
Ben and Andrew look back at the 1997/98 season, one of the wildest ones for United in modern times: an FA Cup semifinal, a playoff run, manager resignations, Deane/Fjortoft, Alan Kelly, Dane Whitehouse, Vas Borbokis, Wayne Quinn, boardroom controversy, and so much more.
Split into five parts: kicking off with the summer of 1997, the return of a Blades legend, plus Nigel Spackman replacing Howard Kendall, then part 2 (13:44) looks at our great start to the season. Thanks for listening, and UTB!
United's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace gives them a first league double of the season as well as a first win in London in 20 Premier League games. Then, a tribute to Jake Wright, and a look ahead to Bournemouth at home and what could be a pivotal month for the Blades' season... Finally, some detective work into Blades players beginning with Z.
