After twenty winters on the road, Tanyth Fairport makes one last pilgrimage in her quest to learn all she can about the herbs and medicinal plants of Korlay before settling down to write her magnum opus. Her journey is interrupted when she decides to help a small village and learns that much of what she knows of the world may not be quite as it seems.
Nathan Lowell blends wiccan tradition and shamanistic lore into a fantasy quest for a new - if unlikely - heroine. She learns that the familiar sometimes hides the fantastic and that, even when you think you’ve made your decisions, life doesn’t always agree.
Tanyth has second thoughts about continuing her quest. The village prepares for the Winter Solstice celebration. (Chapter 36, 37)
Life in the village returns to normal and they prepare for winter. Tanyth has a troubling dream. (Chapter 33, 34, 35)
Tanyth recovers slowly and moves back into Mother Alderton's hut. Frank has some unusual opinions. (Chapter 30, 31, 32)
The situation with Birchwood comes to a head with fatal consequences. (Chapter 27, 28, 29)

Tanyth has a strange vision and begins to doubt her sanity. Riley and the other children help her collect herbs. (Chapt 12, 13, 14)
Tanyth defends the village and has an unsettling dream. The village gets a name and the villagers plan for winter construction. (Chap 10,11)
As Tanyth settles in and learns her way around the village, riders threaten the peace of the little hamlet. (Chap 8,9)
A dream convinces Tanyth to accept the invitation, but within a day she already has second thoughts. (Chap 6, 7)
A small hamlet in a wide spot in the road holds an interesting mystery for Tanyth and she's drawn in to help the struggling villagers. (Chap 1,2 )
