In this interview, I speak with SmartAlbums & SmartSlides creator Daniel Usenko. Creating slick, professional-looking slideshows and albums has really never been easier. And now Daniel Usenko and his team at Pixellu.com have managed to make the process fun!
https://youtu.be/dadENeqympo
I was amazed at how fluid and polished their software is, and how they're able to take two of the most tedious tasks (album design and slideshows) and not only make them enjoyable but also create an end product that would likely rival what you could do manually.
In this chat, Daniel discusses his company and also demonstrates this amazing software.

Stephanie Pham and Matt Granger join the show to discuss the art of implied nude photography. How do you get started in this type of art? And what are the challenges and barriers to entry? How do you plan a shoot? And how do both the photographer and model ensure they are working with professionals and not just another "GWC"?

We discuss these topics and many more in this important discussion. We also tackle the importance of professionalism on both the part of the model and the photographer during booking, during, and after the shoot.

LinkedIn Basics & Principles covered:
Questions asked during the Q&A segment:
Question: What is the main reason for the amount/regularity for posts?
Answer: Think of it as an opportunity to be heard or recognized or appreciated, or helpful. Unlike a retail environment, where people get 'advertised at' and then you wait and hope that they come into your retail space, you're reaching out to start the conversation. The more you post, the more you learn what works and what doesn't. It's also part of the way in which LinkedIn measures engagement. It's pretty hard to have them figure you out and rank you up if you don't have enough content to stand above the noise. That doesn't mean yelling or just putting out stuff for the sake of it.
This is where most people struggle and fail on the content volume question. They post 'junk' or trolling styled comments. Eventually, that backfires. Have a strategy and an intention in mind. Vary your content across newsworthy (often a reshared content piece) something you're working on (get feedback on it - etc) and maybe saying thank you to a past client by showing a shot from the session and tag them - that makes them feel good and you may even get them to re-share it which could improve your visibility.
Once you really get going, it will be easier to be strategic.
Question: What exactly are "ALT tags"?
Answer: Alt tags are like a meta description for a photo and are generally used on your website. You can only have one alt tag per photo but it can be pretty long and descriptive - about 120 characters if I remember correctly.
Hashtags are a way to increase the visibility of a post or content if someone is 'following' or search for it. I usually recommend approx 3 hashtags based on all the stuff everyone else is saying about them.
It's ok to have more or less of them, just as long as they make sense contextually. One thing I do is try an have 2 hashtags that relate specifically to the audience that may search for that content and then one more that is far more distinct to me. My current hashtag to follow is #herdofelephants - it came about as a result of describing the importance of Google My Business for a local business.
One of the best way to figure out both which hashtags to use and how many is simply to do a bit of research. Look at other people who are getting success with post ranking, views and most importantly engagement. That's where you're likely to learn the most about what will work for you.
Wedding and portrait photographer Sara France joins the show to discuss her experiences and challenges with being female in the photography industry.

https://youtu.be/4787MSAKbgk
About Sara, from her bio:
A funny thing to know about me is that most people call me by my full name. Even my closest friends call me, Sara France. So, feel free to join in on the fun if you like.
I am extremely proud to have been given the honor of being 1 of 5 wedding photographers in the world to be named a Sony Artisan of Imagery. I am also currently a mentor in Sony’s revolutionary Alpha Female program. Sony is an amazing company doing groundbreaking things in the photography industry and I am so grateful to be a part of that movement.
My work as a wedding photographer was first recognized by Apple who selected a few of my weddings to display in Apple stores and online. If you have seen a wedding image used by Apple it is most likely one that I photographed!
However, my greatest accolades so far are the hundreds of thank you letters and hugs I have received over the years from happy couples who have loved their experience of working with me. Connecting with my clients is my favorite part of my job, and when that happens so does the magic. There is nothing greater than the thrill of a happy couple and the joy of being part of the most important day in their lives!

In this interview I chat with globetrotting photographer Curtis Jones. We discuss his adventures and learnings while traveling around the globe and taking amazing photographs. You'll find out how exactly he prepares for a photography adventure where he may not have access to the typical niceties that we city-dwellers likely take for granted. What does he pack? About Curtis…
It takes a certain personality to appreciate the details of a climate rarely inhabited by people.
Curtis Jones has spent most of his career saturating himself in the polar regions of the planet, dividing his residency between Newfoundland and Nunavut, Canada.
Over the last decade, his adventurous lifestyle has taken him across the Gobi Desert by kite buggy, on a 2300 km unsupported traverse of the Greenland Ice Cap, Antarctica, and a lifetime of climbing and exploration worldwide. Working for both the private and public sector, he has documented work for environmental initiatives, literacy, Canadian National Parks, climate change and tourism in the Canadian Arctic.
Collaborating with world-class athletes, production teams, and local cultures and communities, he has built his career delivering a personal view of the raw, wild, and often untamed. His work has been seen in National Geographic Adventure, Canadian Geographic, The Globe and Mail, Huffington Post Canada and more.
Between commercial clients, he is often seen leading photography workshops in the polar regions of the Earth, sharing his appreciation for adventure with others. A collector of interesting stories, Curtis is rarely seen far from a camera, tent, or a good punchline.

In this interview, Washington D.C. based photojournalist Michael A. McCoy discusses his work in raising awareness around Section 27 at Arlington National Cemetery. Section 27 is an often overlooked area of the famous cemetery where even in death African Americans were segregated. Michael's work is intended to shine a light on the section and also draw attention to some of the reasons why tours and other passers-by tend to overlook the section entirely.

Michael McCoy
5,000 African American soldiers and civilians have found their final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery. But their stories remain largely untold, and their existence feels almost like a secret.
"I have made it my job as a photographer to give a voice to the voiceless," Michael McCoy boldly states. Michael is an African American Veteran and documentary photographer. He knows first hand what it means to sacrifice for your country. Because of this, he's focusing his work on those that fell and paved the way for future generations. Not least, those whose selfless and brave contribution seems to be living deep in the shadows.

In this interview I'm joined by Gustavo Fernandez to discuss his move into corporate event photography. We discuss his move away from weddings and portraits and how this new business model has given him his life back and allowed him to enjoy his photography.
https://youtu.be/oIcYC-JHTuA
About Gustavo
Based in San Francisco, Gustavo Fernandez is the businessperson’s photographer. He captures the excitement and energy of corporate and organizational events and creates perfect headshots.
Gustavo started his photography career over 11 years ago under the tutelage of Bambi Cantrell quickly becoming her go-to second shooter as he built his own business. He took those learnings and shared them several times on the stage at WPPI (Wedding & Portrait International conference). Slowly he started getting referred to business clients by his preferred vendors and quickly realized the benefit of the corporate work. Today he calls companies like J.P. Morgan, NASDAQ, Visa, and Google his clients and is looking forward to what the future holds.
When he’s not working, he’s giving back to the community: serving non-profits The Guardsmen, Children International, and Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Gustavo Fernandez is a full-time photographer based in San Francisco. He went from shooting weddings/portraits to now exclusive corporate events and headshots for corporations like JP Morgan, Nasdaq, Forbes, etc. All built via a referral-only business and taking care of his clients. He is all about building a recurring business model of working with companies every year vs having to find 30-40 new clients every year (weddings/portraits). All built with old school or what he calls "back to the basics" like picking up the phone or returning emails in a timely manner, etc.

About the book "Create":
It is time for a new mindset. Many of us think of creativity as something distant and incompatible with the daily life-a skill that artists get to use, but not the rest of us. Maybe you feel like a land-locked surfer, yearning for exhilarating rides. Or maybe you live for the few hours a week when you can take photographs, paint, or write. It's time for a new mindset. Create shows you how to rediscover the artist within you.
Live a more creative life. People who make a living in the creative arts know that there is a cycle to unlocking the imagination: Visualize, know your tools, work your craft, refine, share.

Travel and Nature photographer Rob Knight has been a professional artist for nearly thirty years. He’s been a photographer for more than half of that time and an educator since 2009. Rob has been using mirrorless cameras since before they were cool, and he has been teaching and writing about this technology for years.

He is an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop Lightroom, and he was a finalist for the National Association of Photoshop Professional’s “Photoshop Guru” award for photography in 2008 and 2009.
