Last Fall, at the Freakwater show in Cleveland. Beachland, the bar side.

Never heard Freakwater? You are missing something amazing:

Lyrics to the song "Great Potential" by Freakwater:

Your breathes not exactly like a breath of Spring/
And your eyes aren't shining bright as any diamond ring/
Your hair's not flowing down like a great black waterfall/
And things that used to turn me on don't move me at all/

Every word you speak's not the smartest thing I've ever heard/
When you talk about yourself/
I'm not hanging on your every word/
I know every line on your face could tell a story/
But I've heard them all before and now they bore me/

Even your great potential just leaves me cold/
When I look at you I'm thinkin'/
God, do I look that old?/
I've been told/
a city of gold/
waits at the bottom of a long dark hole/
but i can't wait around for that story to unfold/
it leaves me cold

Imagine that in the high lonesome, bluegrass twang. And then end the show with an amazing rendition of the classic bluegrass anthem, "Rank Strangers." Good stuff...

empty_room,
originally uploaded by smaved. As if starting a new school year wasn't hard enough for school teachers, moving into a new room and a new building has been exhausting. Here's the before, what it looked like on the same day. Empty walls and all...

I know, I know. It's been so long. It's Tuesday and I've not blogged since Friday. What have I been doing? Working hard on my cousin's wedding DVD for the last four days or so and starting a new school year. I've got some before and after pictures from my classroom. Fist day of school is tomorrow and the kids are excited, I'm sure. So am I. It was a great summer, but I hope it will be a better year!

Apparently Pluto is NOT a planet.

To Mrs. Morgan, my 3rd grade teacher, I would like those 5 points back on my quiz.

That is all!

The Raconteurs,
originally uploaded by smaved. The Raconteurs played the last show of their first tour in Cleveland, Ohio at the House of Blues, August 6, 2006. Here's a shot from a cell phone, stage right. Jack White, white stripe, front and center.

We attended the show after spending a great weekend with our friends (thanks, Jen!) at Lake Mohawk, near Akron.

curtis and stacy,
originally uploaded by smaved. Yeah! Just got back from Arizona. After leaving Flagstaff, blogging got a bit harder since access was scarces. None at the hotel congress. And only some slow dial up at the cabin.

This picture was taken on the trail, about a mile away from the cabin we stayed in on Mt. Lemon in Tucson, Arizona. We took a break from the hike to enjoy the view. Curtis is on the left. Stacy sits on the granite on the right.

R.I.P. my OSU homepage,
originally uploaded by smaved. For months I have been paying OSU-UNITS (Ohio State Service Providers) $1.95 a month, plus tax. Mailing it in with a $.39 stamp. I found out the other day as I tried to update the homepage that I no longer have access to the site though it is still posted on their servers. I imagine that this means that any day they will purge it and it will be lost to cyber dump someplace to be scavenged up as evidence veritas that I am a social degenerate. Or a genius. You be the judge. Click on the link and take a look at this cached archive of my life.

stacy_feet,
originally uploaded by smaved. Maybe it was all the beer drank at Cooperstown (Alice Cooper's new pub chain) but Stacy was so bored at the D'backs game he photographed his own feet. He said I was lucky there were so many people around or he would have chosen a more personal subject.
