We all have the life we have, because we have made the choices we made.

For all us, a lot of what happens in our lives happens without our consent, influence or complicity.  We are born into families we have not chosen, in towns and countries we have not chosen.  As we grow up, there is very little if anything at all, that we can do to impact the environment we are in. Wherever we are born, there are people, events and conditions that are not in our favour. These factors can be harmful, could even lead to trauma and worst, to our death.  In this episode, Jabu Zwane talks about how we should make choices post trauma.

Welcome to mindset talk with me Your host Jabulani. Thank you so much for tuning in today. I just wanted to talk this morning about relationships, there's a thought that I've been having my mind, but it's also a thought that is connected to some other sessions that I do on relationships. And I was just wanted to share this with you folks this morning because I thought, Hey, you know what, why not? Why not? Because I see that, you know, the topic of relationship obviously is so central to who we are as people, right? The scent of who we are as people it makes up. So it's such an important part of our identity, our peace of mind, sort of the life that we get to live, the quality of life that we get to live as it is connected to the person that we are with, acid is connected to the what we're building together, as is connected to what we are becoming together. You know, I think a lot of the emotional grief that people experienced in life are deeply connected to the relationships that they have the types of relationships that they have with people, the type of people in terms of personality, in terms of character in terms of belief systems in terms of mindsets, and attitudes and perspective of the people that that we deal with. And so I thought about just sharing this with us this morning, and I want to start off with one very simple way. A central to really every question of relationship are a few questions and are. The quiz questions are in the following the first one is always about the question of why matter, right? Why matter? Like in other words, am I important? So do I have value? And then the second question of that is to whom? To whom do I matter? Who is it that finds value in me? Who is it that I'm valuable to? In other words, so a child obviously is valuable to their parents because they're the child and parents are valuable to the parents for the child for the same reasons. Now the third question is that why do I matter? So in other words, that child starts asking them a question other than the fact that my parents love me because I am their child, or why what else do I monitor for and why only matter purely because I'm a child or one matter because of my human being doesn't matter because I have my own thoughts I have my own desires, I have my own goals and at that point where the child has grown to the point where they can make their own decisions, they start asking them this quite themselves this question is but in a romantic setting, we asked this question Okay, who do I matter obviously it's my boyfriend or my partner or my mom or my wife or my husband or girlfriend I match in a matter in a romantic sentence when I start asking myself these questions once I know this person likes me and we've been together can like each other we start asking the question well why why matter why'd why met and there's a question of significance and there's a question of contribution I'll talk about that just now. And then the last one is if that is what I have determined for example, that that's why i matter is that how I want to matter now let's take another example of the romantic relationship if let's say a woman is very beautiful, and it would seem that central to the conversation to pretty much everything that they how or the wife or the husband says about a woman is always about the beauty then the woman starts asking themselves this question is that the only reason why I'm at another typical example then be if you know, whenever a woman opens her mouth or how or why opens a mouth about her husband, she only mentioned the things you have maybe the money that she has, or maybe the job that this man has. And there really isn't anything much about character about intelligence about maybe belief systems that bring the left that they have in common then the husband also starts asking himself this question while only matter for the things that I have. I remember a conversation also not conversation. An article that I read once about

Now one of those topics that has really captured my mind of late has been this topic of agreeableness, I mean with the first time I heard about agreeableness, I think I must say I was really fascinated with I saw myself a lot in in that, and I just want to start off by just describing what agreeableness is first and then take it, take it from there. Now, in psychology, agreeableness is defined as the people who have high potential to put the needs of others above that of their own, and overall agreeableness describes a person's ability to put other people's needs above their own. For instance, people who have a heart who are high in agreeableness, naturally experience empathy and tend to get tremendous pleasure from serving others, and taking care of them. So as you can see it normally comes from a very good place. It comes from a place of wanting to be of good service, especially to those that you are in a relationship, who are meaningful to you, and of course those who are around you. So as a result a New York index something that I call the index of empathy is a high and it is combined with that ability then to adjust yourself mentally and emotionally and physically make space for others, in, in around your own space. So then that makes them the people like that if you are the kind of person, it means that you are then more prone to agree with others considering their feelings, often, often at the expense of your own position or even your own feelings. In situations where it even contradicts your own position, So you find yourself for example, agreeing agreeing to, let's say you're not somebody who drinks a lot of my alcohol that much you can find yourself agreeing to go with your friend or with your friends to a bar to go hang around there because you don't want to offend them. Or you can even have read to certain expenses that you're not used to and are planning to spend on, even if it puts your financial pocket in a negative light or even if it's kind of like evil, it's gonna present strub trouble for you later on in the future so agreeable people then tend to say yes when they don't even bring in, when they are not in agreement with a lot of stuff. And this then tends to create incongruence, which means that there is that mental misalignment of thought, between your own mind and your emotions are when this happens and you find yourself and in that consistent state of cognitive dissonance is another psychological term, which just simply describes this state of being a state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change, and the longer and more regularly we stay in that state, we create self doubt and we disempower our ability to trust your own decisions. And so you find that in situations where you are having to make an important decisions because you're so used to making decisions, in, in contrast to what others think. Then you find that you're not confident in making your own decisions, then you will you will over consult your consultant to many people and then end up in a situation where you've got so much information, struggling to figure out who is it that I'm going to agree with, who am I going to offend if I go this way, who's not going to be offended. And then it's like you're in the operating and it's at this high level of emotional and mental tension. And in the end you don't even know what you want as a person and I find that if I'm in a situation where I'm dealing with a group of people, they struggle to make a decision, they'll always want you to make a decision informed or ask you what you think is what must I do, and why must I started what steps must I take and how long must it be, what is the formula. So always looking for something that can prescribe what they do so in that way they don't have to make their own decisions than to offend. Another person.

The hardest thing to do, is not overcoming the hardships you will face in life, the hardest thing to do, is having the humility to learn the lessons that life,  and for me as believing man, the lessons that God is teaching you about life  through those struggles.  To accept that struggle is part of life, is to admit that your life is not anymore special than your enemy's or worse than your neighbour's.  To soberly wake up to the reality That you just as vulnerable as other people, regardless of whether you're good or bad person by your own estimation or anyone else's.

Accept that the struggles we face are no different from those of the other 7 billion people in the world, takes courage and humility.

The tension begins where we think that our struggle is different.  Where we think our struggle is harder than our friend's and other people.  We wrongly, conveniently and often, tragically think that other people's struggles are easier than yours.

Although there may be some truth to that, but it is not helpful to our emotional experience during hardships. It often leads to Bitterness, resentment and jealousy.  We set ourselves up for discouragement and victimhood.

When we exaggerate our hardships, we undermine our ability to overcome because we undermine ourselves.

No one has overcome a struggle that they consistently exaggerate.  Don't stand in your own through self-pity and wounded pride.

Here are two domains of human operation that Exaggeration of our situation reflects.

1.  The Domain of Defeat, leading to a pitiful vicimization in times of struggle. 2.  The Domain of Resilience. admiration for our resilience against struggles.

Exaggeration of struggles, especially ones that we have not confronted yet, is a good indication that we are not going to do anything about it, should we have to face them.

Whereas an objective reflection on the reality of how indiscriminate struggle is, orients us to prepare for tough times.  Soldiers prepare for war long before the actual.  When the war erupts, it is too late to prepare.  So prepare to war beforehand.

3.  To overcome, we have to entertain the idea that there is a way out. Even though we may not see it in that moment of being overhwelmed or even know what it is. We have to believe in the hope that tomorrow holds for the efforts and commitment we put into today.

When we do this, a new path of thinking is conceived, our intuition begins to extract from our subconscious mind, those possible paths to our destintation.. In consideration of options, we begin to observe new things and slowly we take steps, and these options become a journey that is now desplausible, a journey with favourable destination.

Human beings are created with an incredible ability to conceive things, and bring them to life.  Our ability to imagine means that we can create a lot of our life in our minds.  Most of our time, is lived in our imagination. That is what makes us like God, we posses that element of Him.  The challenge is when we reduce everything to self.

Self-orientations limit everything to you, what you know, what you want, what you don't have and what you want from others. Sadly others become nothing but tool that you can use to achieve what you want.  Self orientations is a pathway that leads to the very same self-limitations, being overwhelmed by the magnitude of life.

Free your mind from self-orientations. Life is greater than the walls of your mind and the rooms of your emotional experiences. The Freedom is borrowing from a world beyond your limited experiences is a super power accessible to anyone who cares to reach beyond their reach through others.

We still have 3 choices.   a)  Face the situation and go through the difficulty of learning new ways to deal with struggle, take time to go through the difficulty whilst probably loosing a lot of comfort and pleasure.   b)  Be overwhelmed and give up.   c)  Look for genuine qualified help from others, or see them as mean

In this episode, Jabu Zwane deals with the Principle of Impact as one of the 5 key principles in mindset development because it deals with how we are affected by things that forcibly come in contact with us.  These can be events, emotional experiences, physical activities or objects, and more so thoughts.  As beings with a limited structure, how things impact us is key to how we respond to them.  Whether we get impacted positively or negatively, we respond or react to them, in line with not only how we are affected, but the degree to which we are affected.

Our desires, expectations, wishes and goals,  determine what impacts us and how. In mindset development, impact helps us to understand how so much of what we think I is framed by impact.  When we are affected positively by impact, we are oriented to seek more of that positive experience. Whereas when it is negative, we seek less or totally eliminate that experience.

Procrastination

Identifying what cause you to fail is more important than what helps you to succeed.

Procrastination is a consequences more than it is something that we do or fail to do. It is a result of a few things missing, one of which is understanding your own operational process which mandates that we have a PUPROSE/MISSION/GOAL.

Procrastination is a lack of or no system, which leaves us blind to distractions and obstacles.

Often the key to our failures, what costs us our success is how I would like frame this line, lies not in what we do or don't, but in what we are not aware of.  A lack of consciousness about what stands in our way, regarding our thinking and our environment, is costly. Transformation of our lives begins in our minds, successful transformation can only be achieved when we identify what hinders us our transformation and actively eliminate or minimize its negative impact.  Mindset Solutions is about that...practically knowing how to identify what holds you back, and structurely building what will take you forward and gaurnatee that you achieve what you set out to achieve.  Often it's not lack of effort, nor is it lack of knowledge or will, often mindsets hidden deep subconscious work like control rooms making dictating outcomes, rendering our efforts fruitless.

Asking the right questions?

Questions have a source, a factor we do not always consider when we, or others ask questions. Questions come from our currenr knowledge pool, when it's not sufficient to to give undsrstanding, solve our problems, when our knowledge is not enough, to help us make sense of life. Life's mysteries, challenges, troubles and hardships. Life beautiful and tragic moments, joyful and painful. We have questions. Questions connect us to areas that we need to acquire more information, these are areas of growth, areas where need clarity, simplification...and that's an good thing.

Questions are inspired by a few factors...these factors determine the kind of question we will ask and reasons behind. One of these key factors is...purpose.

Purpose: Is one of the primary sources of questions in life, the determined resolve as it is informed by what we are trying to achieve, what we need unravel to get on to the next stage. When we are trying to achieve our goals, but we struggle, we ask questions. When we make progress and begin to realise a few successes, but come across obstacles, we ask questions. When we have achieved our goals and think that we have finally, accomplished our purpose finally, we ask new questions. Questions like, What's next? Was that enough? Should I do it again....or is that all there is to it?

But, What happens if you have a wrong purpose? What if our purpose is informed by ideologies we no longer subscribe to? What if they're sourced in misconceptions, misinformation, destructive mindsets or wrong sources of influence? In this case we, ask the wrong questions. What our background is so dark and twisted, filled with confusion and conflict, tragedy that shaped us to see life a certain way? Which questions do we ask and where do we end up?

We can find ourselves asking, how do I become better than everyone else, rather than asking how do I become the best of me. We can ask how do I eliminate competition rather than how do we become the best at what we do? How can I diss my haters or show them? We can ask what is wrong with other people, rather how do we become the difference that brings change in hopeless situations.

With the wrong substance in our our mindsets, we ask the wrong questions, get wrong answers, come up with wrong solutions and resolve the wrong problems. But when we deliberately fill our minds with the right susbstance, We Build the right Mindsets and come up with the right solutions. It all begins with, what our purpose is, leads to what do we need to solve, then our plan, then tools. Adjustment in the process will be connected to purpose, readjustment continues the process starting with questions. See how that works? You can be stuck in long path of wrong questions and wrong plans and outcomes when you begin at the wrong place.

So..what's in your mind?

A mindset is a structured category of thought informing our belief system, attitudes and may lead to action or inaction, building our framework of thought. In this episode, Jabu Zwane discusses what approved sources of influence are. Mindsets are built over time and continue to develop as we grow in knowledge and expences. They influence actions we take and the attitudes we hold towards some of the most important life

Mindsets are built through over time through experiences, formal and informal education, social structures like family, relationships, community, culture, religion, political environment and ideologies. There are sources of influence that contribute significantly towards mindsets. Sources such as mentors, teachers, leaders that people follow in various formations.

As people we need the support of others, especially those who are close to us. But what happens when those we look to for support don't believe in us the way we do? What happen when they cannot see in us, what we feel deep inside? If you have no confidence in what you've been gifted in, don't expect others to.

There's a Bible verse that says: "A prophet is without honour in his own town". In this episode, Jabu Zwane, the Mindset Development Specialist, talks about why we shouldn't wait on others to make our first move to realise our dreams. The sad truth is that those who are close to us do not always have the objectivity needed to allow us to be greater than who they know us to be. Seeing us different would disturb their harmonious existence with us, perhaps heirachal harmony, economic harmony, comfort zone harmony, because our lack of success provides them some comfort. I heard Steve Harvey say once, paraphrasing: "If you want to kill a dream fast, share it with a small minded person".

So do yourself a favour, ask for input and supprt from your friends and family, but don't count on it to go forward. Share with them your dreams and aspirations, but don't fault them for not being excited with you. To some, you will always be: "Johnny the Smelly breath, Bobby the lazy one, Thando the Bomba, or Pretty the dumb one". Go out to find new spaces to fly in, because your current space may be roofed with too much "I know who you are types of talk. You can't succeed at anything type of declarations." Move on, move away and move into new spaces.

Isolation: The dysfunctional escape island for Broken men, dying in silence.

In the last couple of months, I have spoken to more than 20 men at length about some of their heart hitting issues, including my own. The demographics were a combination of various ethnic groups, races and nationalities from at least two continents amd 5 countries, including the USA. These were deep talks, some of them extending over a few sessions and a couple of hours at a time. There are a couple issues I would like to raise maybe over a few posts, I am not really sure how this will go.

Here is one of the big issues. The majority of men live in isolation even though there are many people aorund them and those who depend on them. This reminds me of some of the popular stories like The Lone Ranger and growing up there was an isiZulu drama called "Inkomo edla yedwa", meaning the cow that eats alone. The framework was the same, a hero who sees to everyone's safety whilst dealing with his issues through toughness manifested as self-control, emotionless, solutionist, sacrificialsm tainted wirh social misfitting. This hero does the right thing sacrificing his own well-being and definitely living without any comforts. A very dramatised picture of what it means to be a man. Many of us as young boys loved these stories. I remember my friends and I never wanted to miss 1 episode. The picture that comes out very strongly with these tough guys is that they don't need anyone, they are self-sufficient in themselves and asking for help is a sign of weakness. Asking for help and counsel is for young boys and weak men, now for grown men.

Isolation, this is a big issue that is leading to a lot of men dying slowly in silence. In the process of being this Lone Ranger who has to maintain a certain kind of mystery that makes him attractive to women and revered by other men, he talks to no one and only opens his mouth to deal with a problem, often with a line or two. If he doesnt know anything, he will mysteriously figure it out alone in his thoughts, no input from anywhere else, emphacising the stereotype of a social misfit. The consequence is that many of us men carry secrets that are killing because we are afraid of being found out to be flawed, clueless and actually overwhelmed by life. This of course is partly our own choice and we have to own up to our portion of responsibility.

Of these men I spoke to, there were pastors, business people, professionals, teachers and engineers ranging from age 25-65. Almost half of them had considered suicide. Almost half were over indebted and seemingly without a way out, and those who are married, their wives didn't know to what extent. Some struggling with secret habits and constantly fighting thoughts of feeling inadequate.

Isolation, men isolate themselves even when they're in public because our society also has romanticised The Lone Ranger mysterious man with wisdom and cerebral abilty to come up with Solutions. To maintain this romanticised mysterious image, we make secret financial decisions that cost us dearly, our families wellbeing being the price. We make unwise and uninformed business decisions that wipe away our pensions and savings. Without consultation or any counsel, we build houses of cards covered in gold glitter. Owing to an envrionment that has little tolerance for "weak" men, we consult with the inner wisdom soaked in a sea of insecurities. Even as I am writing this I am battling bouncing around in my mind shouting, stop playing victim and man up. Lift yourself up with the bootstraps of your manhood...oh...what, you're not a man are you? The conversation builds.

Bishop TD Jakes once said: the society's ear doesn't hear the frequency of a man's cry.

You ask what's this about? Well, it is about the reality that although it is true that there many men who couldn't care less about their families, societal wellbeing and living irresponsibly and recklessly, there are men whose voices are drowned by the image

October is A Mental Health Awareness Month.

As A Mindset Development Coach, Jabu Zwane, this topic is extremely important to me and very close to my heart. Personally I have suffered from periodic suicidal thoughts at some point in my life, although I dont believe they were serious to extent that I would done anything about them.

My father suffers from what I suspect is A Bioploar disorder for as long as I can remember. Never had any significant relationship with him as a result.

I have counselled more than a handful people who suffered from suicidal thoughts and at least two cases where they went as far as taking steps to kill themsleves, resulting in speeding almost the whole night at hospitals as doctors administered remedies to help these two individuals.

Here are some very concerning stats to note about Mental Health in the world and South Africa.

• An estimated 400 million people worldwide suffer from mental or neurological disorders or from psychosocial problems. These include disorders related to alcohol and drug abuse. Like physical disorders mental and brain disorders vary in severity. There are those that are: • Men are 4 times more likely to commit suicide than women. Although this is the case, women account for more than 80% of calls to Suicide Help centres.

Information that is constantly in your conscious mind but without purposeful use does nothing buy clutter your thinking in the moment.

• It may be interesting information...intriguing even. • It may carry some sentimental value. • It may carry some importance connected to the current events in your life or environment or the country you live in. Crime, corruption, bad economy, suffering, stressful news, bad news. Many of us leave our minds at the merciless alter of the negative news media. We carelessly, hopelessly leaving the validity of information that builds our minds to published or broadcasted media. Just because it is written doesn't make it valid or credible or true or fact. However this reveals to a very powerful ability we have in our structure.

As people, we give more credibility to what is written down more than what is spoken. Written content is mor credible than oral.

Because of this, it can also be thought of asmore “trivial” – people are likely to take it less seriously than the written word. This makeswritten content invaluable when you have a lead that you want to bring further through the sales funnel.Apr 2, 2018

This is why for centuries, powerful kingdoms have used the pen as both a weapon of attack against the enemies' mind. It is written: one of the most powerful statements I have ever read. To illustrate my point I'm going to use an account nitro in this ancient scripture, the bible. It details an account of the Arch enemies, Satan and Jesus Christ.

Satan Quotes the written text, Jesus Christ responds 3 times with a written text in context. In the bible the most powerful figures are God and Satan, in this context as the most powerful and Infleuntial figures, the battle started on battlefield of written content. Written content makes thoughts physical and eternal.

We must learn this, we must take note of it and we must for all that our life is worth, practice the skill. Writing down our thoughts, journaling, blogging, love letters to ourselves. Whatever, writing down of thoughts uses a different part of in our brain to process thoughts as we write them down and they stare back at us once we have written down. All of a sudden we learn. • How to structure our thoughts in a way that doesn't misrepresent our intentions. • How to deliver thoughts in a such a that captures our intended meaning. • We are cognizant of how important words are in the process of communication. • We learn to mind our words. • We lear use our words enhance our communication and preserve intended meaning. • We lear that words, are our judge, they can judge our intent and reveal our heart, our pain, our joy.

This is a powerful tool to declutter our thinking.

In this episode, Jabu Zwane, the Mindset Coach discusses how to develop the habit of winning. Practice the Science and the Art of winning.

Science studies laws of how things work. These laws are cast in stone and have to be followed in order to get a specific outcome.

In Function, these ar called operational laws.

Art is about the uniqueness of design, expression more than declaration of a law. Art considers the uniqueness in talents and gifts and abilities. Science is about the basic structure for that uniqueness to come out. Creating the best conditions for ones uniqueness ro come out.

Practice more and more: getting better at what you do.

Have a schedule and stick to it.

Have minimum standards that have to be met.

Mitigation plan, risk management plan, minimised impact of interruptions, distractions.

Art is:.. Creativity in scheduling, create a schedule that integrates your current schedule of work and other important to dos.

Allow for exceptions, not as a norm and always have a back up plan in case your scheduling gets interrupted.

Adjust when necessary, sometimes load upfront. Meaning do as much as you can when you time. Back load when possible, meaning do more later than scheduled at times if you have more time available. Just be jealous of your free time. Especially if you're in the housing phase or still going after your dream.

Practice the science and the Art of winning.

• Win small as often as you can. • Prepare to win big as much as you can. • Start winning early and keep it consistent. • Where you drop drop ball, pick it up keep going. • Consistency is the thread that holds the winning streak. Be consistent. • Improvement is the key to winning difficult battles. Measure your progress, without measuring you can't confidently process and direct your improvements.

Mitigation plan. • Expect to miss the mark sometimes, manage your expectations. • Rather start small and become a master, than start big and fail big. Big fails require massive stregth to get up, small fails less strength. Don't set yourself up for a no come back. • Be careful not compare your race to someone else's. Stick to your lane, stepping on someone's lane is a violation. Win the right way. • Treat yourself with a lot of grace, but don't give your self a way as a habit. There's a thin lane between grace and habitual licentiousness. Thin as it may be, the line is clear, the results should be progress, not regress. • Learn what your motivational triggers are and be ready to employ if you need to. • Pace yourself, Rome wasn't built in day, but each day there was some building taking place in line with the plan. Don't be discouraged by the weather. When the sun is up build as much as you can.

How do mindsets function? In this episode Jabu Zwane, the mindset coach discusses the principle of function in the Mindset Solutions Framework to address this question. Function is described an activity that is natural to or the operational purpose of a person or a thing. Function is also described as proper work, operation or way of a thing. Function of a thing has an operational ability that is determined by purpose. Purpose could be to achieve something, resolve a problem, enhance operation, provide understanding, or to satisfy a need. Function is engrained in creation, function follows laws of operation as they are determined by the purpose for which the designer, designed the item. Malfunction happens when the operational performance item experiences limitations, deteriorates or no longer has adequate ability to execute its operational function, causing the performance to fail to follow operational laws. Both the mind and the Body have operational laws separately, however their functionality is linked to their biological connection and operational relationship. Without the body, the mind has no outlet, without the mind, the body has no source of direction and life. Enjoy the episode and remember to subscribe and share.

In this episode, Jabu Zwane discusses the number most negative and most powerful negative mindsets of all, SHAME. Shame mindset is a transcendent negative mindset that is probably the most powerful, most dominant and destructive of all mindsets. Shame is that negative emotion we feel when we perceive our worth and/or based on projections of our worth by others. It is a negative perception that distinctly brings us to an understanding that we are not good enough or that we do not meet whatever standard we are being measured against, sadly that we measure ourselves against. The other side of shame, perhaps the one that makes us more vulnerable, is the exaltation of others. When we do not feel adequate, naturally we feel less than others. Exaltation of others becomes masqueraded as respect or honour, when that is actually an acknowledgement of our poor self worth. The difference is noted in how we respond to others when they are abusive, domineering, dismissive of us or use us. The two extreme sides of shame will be covered, I believe a lot of negative behaviour reflect both sides.

Mindsets build over the years without our full awareness. Deliberate, structured and determined efforts to deconstruct those systems and structures that create maintain negative mindsets. Race mindsets took centuries of hard work to build, it is reasonable to expect that it would require even more effort to change them. Research has shown that any process of repair once a damage has bee to takes up to 7 times more effort to complete. How much more racila systems that have been erroneous from the origin? Would it not take more education, more superior systems and structures with programmes to integrate new mindsets? This daunting task cannot be left some sections to rebuild, greater participation by all is needed.

This episode records a Private Session between the Founder of Mindset Solutions podcast, Jabu Zwane and a client. This section covers a broad context of South Africa's social, economic and political landscape. A focus was on the role of the so called Coconuts in South Africa, black people who are viewed to be black outside but white inside. The term is not necessarily a portrayal of positive sentiment, but projects a negative view of black people with a specific English accent primarily, lately connected to geographical residence. Jabu Zwane Introduces the idea that perhaps, Conconuts have a better view of SA landscape, since they intrinsically rooted in the worlds of two extremes. Being black and struggling with their own identity, being in the company of whiteness whilst navigating the complexities of this relationship. This is a fascinating taking listen, not to be missed.

With this in mind, the second element of language is context, context captures meaning beyond the base definition. However, base definition remains primarily connected to the original intended meaning of the word. Context connects us to the word, creating a personal and group relationship with the word. With a relationship comes emotions, personal interest, purpose. A simple example is a parent calling their child baby, versus a husband calling their wife baby. Another example with a contrasted meaning is guy calling his buddy, dawg and an angry person calling another person dog

The Role of Language in forming mindsets.

What's is language?

Imagine for second our ancestors thousands of years ago, they are gathered together with little or no language. They have common experiences and observations and they would like to share these with each other. Then they realise that they need more than just gestures and signs to communicate. They think...mmm...we already communicate our thoughts through sounds, music ...then ping, how about we develop that? Language gets formed and progress from a few sounds to more words then full sentences. The same process a child follows to develop language through observation.

So..what is langauge and what its purpose?

Language is nothing but audible thoughts, through words we capture what we think and Express them audibly to others. This we do to be understood, to avoid ambiguity and to connect with others. We need this because of our innate need to be part of community, to belong.

The purpose of language primarily is to Express thoughts. For a people group language expresses group thinking, codes, morals, values, common course, culture simply language in people group captures and Express their way of life.

With this in mind the second element of language is context, context captures meaning beyond the base definition. However, base definition remains primarily connect to the original intended meaning of the word. Context connects us to the word, creating a personal and group relationship with the word. With a relationship comes emotions, personal interest, purpose. A simple example is a parent calling their child baby, versus a husband calling their wife baby. Another example with a contrasted meaning is guy calling his buddy, dawg and an angry person calling another person dog.

With context the meaning of the word is captured not in the definition, but the intended meaning. Important to note that the full communication cycle is completed when the recipient understands the context.

So what happens when people from various backgrounds come together, using the same language but with different backgrounds?

If it is true that one of, if the primary purpose of language is to capture and Express thoughts as influenced by personal and group contexts, what happens when groups of people who dont speak ech other's backgrounds and language very well come together to build a nation? Is this a realistic and achievable goal?

Stay there for a second?

If it is true that one of, if the primary purpose of language is to capture and Express thoughts as influenced by personal and group contexts, what happens when groups of people who dont speak ech other's backgrounds and language very well come together to build a nation? Is this a realistic and achievable goal?

What happens when these groups of people adopt one language that is foreign to them, and use it communicate their thoughts, still without knowing each other's contexts well? How can they survive the pressure of using a foreign language with it's own context, against their own contexts?

South Africa, can we build something together with this situation

To life and its toughness, to pain and suffering, to being overwhelmed and feeling defeated, to failure and the shame it drags into my life. Greater is He that in me, than he that is in the world. Aluta Continua...

To the powers unseen, evil plans undetected, to the mysteries of life and the confusion they paint, to our finitude and helplessness and fear comforting us with flashes of paranoia. Greater is He that is in me, than He that is in the world...Aluta Continua...Victory belongs.

To the past unchanged and the destined doom it declared, to my naivety and faith disturbed, my peace sold for threats, to this moment and the newness it ushers in, to the future unsure but ...but...Omnipotence is Omni-potence, Omni-science, Omniscience, Omniactivity and did I just say Omnivelence ...IS. My life is no longer my own, now bought for His glory.

Before I lay down...I shout once more... Aluta Continua...Victory belongs to me. Selah

This an introduction to an upcoming series on How Do We Build South Africa. The series will be looking at one vital area New South Africa did not provide for in its resolution. That is the trauma of the apartheid system, its impact on the mindset of the country, down to the diverse groupings. The principle of chnage the bad driver and the car, not one for the other. A bad driver doesn't change because they're driving a new car, neither does a good driver outlast a bad car, both need to be changed. This principle will covered at length in this series as it relates South Africa pre and post-apartheid.

Awareness is a key starting point to change. Many people want to change but with poor understanding of what they need to change, secondly what they would like to change into. Identifying what holds you back from change, is key to removing obstacles to your change. Start with awareness, then identification, then a plan, then action.

Poem by Jabu Zwane.

Bound in chains...crown of thorns, blood dripping down. Truth hung accused...truth what is Truth? The world asked and walked away.

If truth carves the path life, what is our life without absolutes. Void of certainty, where is my anchor in the ocean of life?

Floating about in the ocean of opinions, ideas, guidance without direction, questions closed to answers, thoughts blowing with rage from east to west...dare we admit, damnation.

No boundaries, No pillar, No trees, No mountains but a flat earth, raging tornado wreaking havoc...is that carnage of lies now permanently engraved into the ladscape of our minds?

Truth without certainty, certainty without absolutes....No thread...we insist...no shred of evidence, no height no depth ...how wide can we stretch, no one is telling us. We are perplexed, but we dare not confess...each one decide for yourself.

Huh...The only certainty is that truth is not certain, can anything be absolute? Truth...what truth, will we wait to hear the answer this time?

Blue is Green, black is white any colour I choose, I am the judge. Crimson red...is that Life or death, If I tell you death is life, it's my opinion I make my own truth. My truth is my way, riding on the waves of life.

No certainty, no absolutes, truth pierced with nails of subjective justice...guilty...my seered conscience declared! Blood dripping down that wooden...Cross...is Truth dead.

Truth...what is truth, if truth is dead, Who is there to Resurrect Him? Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 Arise...can I tell you a story about Truth...Truth? What is Truth you ask...He is alive...and I have to tell you about Him...one moment please.

This is an outdoor recording, pardon the background noise please. It's extract from a mentorship session with Jabu Zwane of Mindset Solutions. People prefer to have a single minded view of who you are because it's easier. No one person is one thing, we are an assimilation of various experiences, social settings, language, culture, maybe even ethnicities. We can be both individual and part of a larger formation. One doesn't have to suffer at the expense of another. We can draw richness of experience from our diverse backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities without shunning our own origin and individuality. Group identity doesn't have to be preserved at the expense of other group formations. Working together doesn't have to translate into assimilation into one group without distinction.

In this episode Jabu Zwane is applying some of the Mindset Solutions techniques to breakdown how lack produces a poverty mindset, which in turn builds a Shame Mindset. The context covers a lot of the African context but can be applied I any setting where shame has had a dominant influence of identity determination.
