Our topic is the importance of good communications when you are collaborating on a project with someone in your business. Rick is a Canadian photographer who uses photoshop in amazing ways to enhance his photos and make them magical. After seeing his work, I knew he had to be the person to create the covers for The Dimensional Alliance book series, starting with The House on Infinity Loop.

How do you get things done? Writer's, unless they write for a newspaper or are ghostwriters or professional bloggers, are their own bosses. There is no one standing over you with a blank pink slip just waiting for you to mess up. On the other hand, since you don't have any taskmasters, you have to become your own taskmaster. This means something different for everyone, but for me, it means if I am going to produce books on a reasonable time track, I have to stay on task.
This episode is about how I do that and what it means to anyone who is creating anything worthwhile.

I have spoken to so many people who have ideas that they just haven't quite gotten around to yet. I've also talked to people who told me they had had an idea for a product or invention years ago and recently noticed that someone had created something very similar and made scads of money with it. Today, on The Other Side of the Door, we're talking about ideas and how to get it out of your head.

Differences are what make life interesting. Scientists have been fascinated with the idea of cloning for decades, but it seems to elude them. Making an exact copy of a living thing is not possible. You can come close, but over time experiences, environment and circumstances will alter two clones or thirty clones.
This is one of the delightful things about the human experience. We are different. We are unique and none of us has the same story, even those who were raised in similar households.
Contrast in writing is absolutely vital if you want to write an interesting story that grabs and keep your readers' attention.

Keys are amazing. Today my wanderings take me to the crux of the matter. My entire series rotates around a tiny gold key, given to my main character Jenny in the very first chapter of The House on Infinity Loop. Why is that significant to me or to my readers?
It is so significant that it is fast becoming a symbol of the branding for my book series. Recently I opened a fan page on Facebook, The Dimensional Alliance Fan Gate. And even more recently we opened a Fan Gear Shop with the first of many Dimensional Alliance related gifts. The Gatekeeper's Key is proudly featured as one of those first gifts to be made available to the public.

Writers don't sit around in an elegant room with a polished mahogany desk with pen in hand waiting on the muse. Quite the contrary. Authors are people. Most of them don't write full time. Most of them have to find ways to fit it all in. Most of them are struggling, just like you.
The key is to not let that get in the way. Move forward. Keep your commitments to yourself. You can do this.
Not an author? This applies to you as well. You can never make something happen by wishing for it. Visualization and affirmations are great, but until you commit to action, nothing happens.

Wow. How much fun is this? This episode is about the idea that focus and uniqueness are really important to a writer and anyone else who wants to stand out in the crowd. For example, Future Apolcalypse by my friend Barbara Gilbert is a time travel novel. The House on Infinity Loop by yours truly is not. They both have interesting plots. They're both Science Fiction and they both entertain readers. But by creating their own place in the space/time continuum, both are unique with a unique focus.

Although most of us have been taught we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, intended to imply not judging other people, the fact is that people DO judge books by thier covers. As an author this is an important concept to understand.
Authors are told by other authors to be sure to have a professional cover made for your book or you are dooming it to abject failure. This is the story about what that meant to me and how we got to the incredible cover for The House on Infinity Loop.
