It's no secret that when life gets tough, the thoughts we think can get wild. The wilderness is a vulnerable place and vulnerable places often call for more vigilance, discipline, and intention. In challenges, discomfort, the unknown, and the unforeseen, it is vital that we cultivate and maintain a disciplined thought life. Every thought we think is not our own and is definitely not always beneficial. So today's episode is about resetting the foundation for what thoughts are allowed to stay and which ones must go. Tune in, and learn how to set boundaries, overcome the enemy's power of suggestion and develop a healthy, abundant thought life, even in the midst of the wilderness.

Have you ever considered the true power of the words you speak? Join us as we venture through the wilderness of life's uncomfortable and uncertain moments, discovering the profound impact our words can have on our reality. Drawing inspiration from Proverbs 18:21, we'll explore the importance of being intentional with our speech, especially during times of discomfort, and how even the smallest declaration can bring life or death.
Together, let's learn to resist letting our circumstances dictate our faith in God and instead focus on speaking His promises and truth into our lives. We'll share how doing so can help you recognize God's faithfulness, even in the most challenging seasons. By directing our focus with our words, we'll uncover the value of celebrating every step of progress and acknowledging God's presence in both big and small ways. So, join us as we embrace the power of our words and recognize God's unwavering goodness in our lives.

Let's talk about prayerlessness. It is so easy to find yourself in the Wilderness refusing to talk to God or expecting God to answer your prayers. Prayerlessness is often the result of a deeply disappointed soul that simply stops asking and stops hoping for anything more than what will be. But not only is that a position of defeat, it is also a surrendering of our identity and authority.
Prayer is transformative and reminds us of who we are and Who is on our side. We desperately need to be reminded of that in dry places. So let us pray big, bold, brave prayers to a God Who still hears and sees us in a wilderness place. Let us become mature sons and daughters who refuse to be quelled into quiet. Let us travel confidently through what the enemy means to harm us with and instead become armed with strength, Truth, and Grace.

This one is for the down and outs, the bedraggled, and the ones who are showing up technically but not really. Dry, discouraging places can really take it out of us, but that's not their purpose. They are an opportunity to lay down what no longer fits to step into who we were meant to be. But for that chrysalis of a process to begin we have to agree to participate fully in the season, showing up with our hearts in our hands. Faith. Belief. Naked, shaking trust that God is who He says He is and will still do exactly what He said is how we show up. It's how we participate. Listen in as we discuss participating in the maturing that God intends to happen in the wilderness!

Tip #1- Give it time. When seasons change on us it can take time to get our bearings, settle in, and be able to hear what exactly God is saying. Often times we fight the discomfort of the new and unfamiliar because we just want the discomfort to go away. But I would contend that in easing into this new thing God is doing and allowing what is to unfold over time, you will begin to see that God is in fact up to something.
Wilderness seasons require that you surrender yourself to the timing of the season- you can't rush through it or past it. You must simply journey through. But take heart! The time spent allows God to do his best work- seeding things in and helping other things to fall off. This is important work that can only happen in time.

Welcome to season 7 of the Walking Well Podcast! First things first- THANK YOU FOR WAITING!
Season 7 is my little field guide to surviving and thriving in Wilderness places. Consider this episode a prequel because before we get into the how-to's we need to first establish a mutual understanding. And that is this: Wheneveryou find yourself in a place of uncertainty, disappointment, not knowing, not able to hear/feel/discern God, etc. a posture of Hope is a non-negotiable.
Hope is the positive expectation of good. If we're going to make it to the other side of places that feel dry, hard, and foreign, we must first believe the wilderness is in fact not forever, despite how everlasting it may feel.
Hope is how we get through. Believing that the sun will rise again and bring goodness with it is the attitude, the discipline, we must commit to. Listen in to hear how to develop the habit of Hope!

I'm going to be honest, the last thing you want to do is the thing you need to do. When life is throwing a curveball or ten, we tend to quietly (or not so quietly) tap out if nowhere else but on the inside. We disengage from many of the helpful things because they can just feel too much. But in this way we stop showing up for ourselves in a way that would otherwise get us to the other side of a pretty uncomfortable season.
This episode is the equivalent of showing up on your first back in the gym after a hiatus. We're going to do the things. And I am here to push you on. #GilonTheeTrainer
The ground level stuff is the stuff. Doing the things you already know you ought (cuz I don't believe in shoulding ourselves) to do, those foundational things, are the baby steps to moving through and creating momentum in funky spaces. So listen in as we talk through the things that help us get to the other side!

Intentions. That can sound woo-wooey but the truth of the matter is if you are not setting an intention you are headed in no direction in particular. You're a wanderer. And no shade to my nomads but sometimes the wandering life in wilderness spaces is really just our response to being overwhelmed. We stop making decisions because we can feel so tossed by life that it seems better for all involved if we stop trying.
BUT! That's quitting- if no where else but in our minds. Intentions allow us to take dominion in both little and big ways that matter and add up. Intentions ensure that we keep our head in the game and our hearts in the fight. Listen in as we discuss the ways we can use setting our intentions to gain the momentum we so desperately need in tough seasons!

Ever felt like you're on a long stretch of blah or utter confusion- welcome! Life has been life'ing lately and we have all been on the ride. I want to offer some tools, some camaraderie, some perspective for this leg of the journey.
Today's episode is on Hope. Hope is the essential ingredient for continuing, finishing, fighting and the like. Hope is the seed of all other actions. So I want to spur you on to Hope. In the uncharted, the unfamiliar, the rebirth, and the deconstruction- here's to Hope!
Hey! It's been a minute. Life, amiright? This is a special pop-in episode to remind you to stay encouraged. The year is wrapping up and after the year we collectively shared and the year that you may have muscled your way through, I think we could all use this reminder: God is still Who He says He is. He is still God with us, still God for us, and very much so still God in us.
So listen in as we just take a minute to remember and remind ourselves that we are neither forgotten or alone, not abandoned or forsaken. We are still more than conquerors, still overcomers, and still God's favorite! Take a deep breath and dust yourself off. Let's finish strong and in faith!
One of the most difficult aspects of life is its unpredictable nature. But one of the most beautiful and surprising things about life is also that unpredictability. What can often rob us from seeing the beauty of the unpredictability is our own resistance to the change of pace and natural rhythm and flow life may be taking, no matter how we expected, predicted or foresaw it playing out. Cathy Jackson joins the podcast to share the pearls of wisdom she has learned as she has navigated life's twists and turns. She discusses challenges to being open, oddly packaged opportunities, and how to remain open to what God may be doing so you can experience the fulness of all that the good life has to offer. Season 4 is all about the roles we operate in and bossing them out. Parenting is one of those areas that comes with tremendous joy, tons of challenges, and not a single owner's manual. While loving your kiddos may come easily, stewarding them so that they become all that God intends takes far more target practice. Nathalie Hawkins of To Teach Her Own joins the podcast this week to talk about how do-able it is to raise up these tiny humans to fulfill all the destiny inside of them. We are living in the middle of a viral outbreak and there is no better time to examine how to use our faith when our bodies are under attack. Y'all. This episode is spiritual meat so prepare to be stretched to accommodate the truth that Keneth Saulsberry is bringing to the podcast this week. We are discussing walking in Oneness with God. In Ephesian 5, Paul writes of a great mystery where the two shall become one and while he uses marriage as an illustration, he is actually speaking of Christ and His Bride, the Church (that's us y'all). So what is this Oneness and how do we begin to practically walk in it? Keneth Saulsberry gets into knowing our identity as sons and daughters, defeating sin consciousness, and balancing our time to invest in our Spirits so we might build true intimacy with God. Keep living and you'll find yourself in a place where your heart and response to the Lord is not as sensitive as it once was. Regardless of the reason that you and I may find ourselves in this place, it is definitely a call to turn and break up the fallow ground in our hearts. My good friend and inspiration in seeking Jesus, Stephanie Romelus joins the podcast again to walk us through the tells of a hard heart and how we can partner with the Lord to see a restoration of an authentic tenderness for Jesus. Be encouraged! Stephanie offers insight into what makes our hearts hard, how we can begin to get that fire for the Lord going again, and what safeguards must be in place to stay away from a lukewarm love for the Lord. Part of growing deep roots with God is following Him in the difficult surrenders. Courtenay Bowser joins the podcast to discuss just that on this episode. Courtenay and her husband Jeremiah are longtime missionaries, who recently picked up their lives and their family in their lifelong home of Jacksonville to respond to a call to France. As you can imagine, that move was anything but easy. But this is part of our yes to Jesus, a total and complete yes when it looks foreign, unknown, and hard as all get out. Guys- this is the final episode of season 3. We made it! Does celebratory dance
To close out this season, we are ending with a bang! Closing the door on unbelief as a chokehold to our faith is how we are ending season three and prayerfully this decade. On this episode we discuss the problem of unbelief, how we end up questioning everything, and how to get on the other side of being skeptical of the heart of God toward us. See y'all in 2020!
Ah, disappointment- you formidable foe. Disappointment has taken out newbie and veteran Christians alike. Why is this such a beast? Disappointment is often the source of deep disconnection for the believer and if not nipped in the bud early and thoroughly can lead to all kinds of soul sickness.
So on this episode of the podcast, we discuss sources of disappointment, key truths to know as you walk through a fallen world as the Beloved of God, and how to air out our hurts to allow God to address all the questions we have when expectations are not met. Tune in!
Listen. Waiting on God is no joke. I often think of it like holding a wall-sit- it is good for your muscles but it's gonna burn after a while. Sometimes in the waiting that burn comes in the form of exhaustion, frustration, and/or hopelessness. That's ok- address the burn.
On the episode, we discuss the proper way to recover from weary waiting, the essential truths about God's heart toward us in times of waiting, and how to stay rested and trusting while God is working on the next layer of goodness He has in store. Listen in!

Here's the thing- you can't trust someone you don't know and you sure aren't going to be willing to follow them into the unknown without a backlog of trust. Not knowing God- like knowing Him knowing Him, makes trusting His commands, instructions, and intentions beyond hard. Knowing God's heart and Who He says He is allows for trust to fill the spaces that we don't have answers for. This episode we talk about the anatomy of knowing God and how we can begin compiling a catalog of life experiences that proves to ourselves and others that God is 100% of the time EXACTLY Who He says He is. There's even a little list of scriptures laying out some examples of how God self-identifies. Get to know not who you think He is, but Who He knows Himself to be!

Sis. Let's be honest- sometimes you just wanna do what you wanna do. We've all been there (some of us are there in park). The reality, though, is that when God's voice takes a backseat to our agenda, we need to check ourselves. Walking with God is a by-product of trusting Him and going our way often shows us where we ain't trusting. On this episode, we examine why we might be playing keep-away with God and tackle what practical steps we can take to adjust, refocus, and get back in alignment with the One Who not only knows us best but also knows what the biggest best for our lives is. Listen in!

It is often said that Christianity is about relationship not religion. But what does that practically look like? Walking with God, doing life with Him is the crux of the Christian life but it can feel overwhelming to know where to start (or even if you're doing it right). It's ok- walking with God is as much of an experiment as it is an adventure. But never fear, God is a master leader and wants to be invited into the stuff of your life. On this episode we look at the example of those who walked with God and learn how to be aware enough to keep step with the Living God in our every day lives.
The Love of God. It is the best and most central aspect of our faith and yet living the reality of being dearly loved by God is often an elusive but longed after whim. We often see God as disappointed in us, obligated to but not in love with us, and distant. But He is far from that! God is crazy about His kids and in this episode we get into the proof. The way God loves is so extravagant and other worldly that we would have to stack lifetimes in eternity to scratch the depth of His feelings toward us. Listen in on this episode as we dive into how God really feels about you and how to finally believe the fairy tale love story He's got going on with you is true.
One of the hardest things in life is to build something in the midst of a chaotic situation. The devil is an opportunist so whether life is just being life or there is an all out battle raging in your life, his constant objective is to divide and conquer. Being a flabby Christian, who has let some core disciplines slip, is the best way to get caught slipping when trials show up. But be encouraged! In this episode, we review how to quickly recover our stance in who God is and who we are in Him by loading up our spirits with Word, pursuing His presence, and keeping our hearts ripe to receive.
So is it just me or is it super tempting to provide commentary on how other people should be doing things? I'm talking about being critical. The more I walk through this life with Jesus the more He keeps pointing stuff out to me like how to love and use my words to build up not tear down and stuff like that. To be frank, it's easier to do what feels good/easiest with my words which is usually not the Jesus thing. On this episode, we get into what makes being critical so hard not to do and how to allow the Lord to address that part of us (the icky part) to love and protect and cover our sister like our Savior does for us. Personal stories galore on this one. Listen in!
Ever got the bright idea to be better or level up in some area of your life, only to have crushing discouragement follow swiftly behind? Yeah, same. Often times the distance between where God shows us He is taking us and where we live can seem like an endless chasm. But listen sis, God is faithful. It's in Him that we live, move, and have our being, and it's in Him that we move from good to great. This episode we get into how one of the enemy's best tactics for holding us back is discouragement, how we shut out the lies, and how we finally begin to posses what's promised. So pull up your chair, put in your earbuds, and join the journey.
Hey there. So...fear. I'm going to just come out and say it: I don't believe fear should be tolerated in any way. Reverence and respect is one thing- fear is a beast of a different color. And because I believe so wholeheartedly that fear is not a thing to be trifled with (see 2 Timothy 1:7), this episode is dedicated to putting the beast back in the grave where he belongs.
Fear is rampant, especially in the form of smothering anxiety and I have walked my own road with it. On this episode of the Walking Well podcast, we deal a deathblow to fear's taunts, tactics, and maneuvers. We dive headlong into Who God is for us in the midst of a bully like fear, how we are waaaaaaay bigger on the inside than fear would lead us to believe, and how speaking the Word shuts up the liar every single time. Join us!
If you've been in any Christian circle for any amount of time, you've probably heard some form of the expression, "Christianity is about relationship, not religion." What does that mean though, and how can we begin to practically begin to bring that truth into our reality? This episode, we break down the building blocks of a thriving relationship with Jesus. And get this- it's simpler than you think. We talk hiding, confiding and getting naked and honest with the Lord. Check it out!

Whew child. Making mistakes is the worst. BUT it's an inherent part of being human. So let's talk about what to do when we make mistakes. In this episode, we explore why owning up to our mess gets tricky, the importance of receiving forgiveness, and how to submit to God's discipline so that we can learn from and blossom beyond our missteps. Plus (juicy tidbit), I share how I processed a sticky situation of my own just to prove the pudding's in the proof. Listen in!
Do you need a pump-up session about hanging in there for what God has promised today? Perfect- that's what this episode of the Walking Well podcast is. Ladies. Fellas. Not gonna lie- staying in faith when hell is breaking loose in our lives can be super discouraging and distracting (not to mention that frustrating mixture of annoying and draining). To deal the nonsense a deathblow, we are heading straight back to Word to remind us of how and why we ought to stay dogged in believing God. This is a Word-heavy episode where we discuss what faith is, how it works, why we must keep our hope out there, and the assurance that God is good all the time and stays forever coming through for us. Jump in!
After breaking down how to counter the enemy's strategy against us last week, we spend this episode examining what God is doing in us and for us in the midst of life's challenges. So many times when we find ourselves in trials, we just want it all to be over already. I get it. But can I share with you a truth that you probably don't wanna hear? (I'm going to share even if you said no) Some times deliverance takes time.
Don't let that discourage you, though. God is building confidence in His character, His provision, and His for-us-ness. Listen in as we talk about three key truths you need to know and some to-do items you can be working on as you’re walking (or being carried) through a rough time.
Spiritual Warfare. In life, sometimes chaos pops off, but it's important for you to know who's behind the foolishness. God is a good Father who never needed the tools of the enemy to teach us anything. So what do we do when life isn't looking like the abundant life that He promised us? We go to work on the enemy. Satan's only objective is to steal, kill and destroy and sis (bro), we ain't having it. This is Operation Handle the Punk. In this episode, we talk about how to identify the hand of the enemy, moving through satan's attacks with confidence, allowing God to lead you, and making the most of the weaponry of heaven to get through. Listen in as we talk about kicking hell's butt!
Our mind is the seat of so much of our reality so it is vital that we keep our mind's in proper working order. On this episode, we explore what renewing our minds to truth actually entails and how to successfully wage the war between our ears. Victory and Success are the trade marks of a believer and it's about time we think like it.

Can I be honest and say that whenever I read the story of the Prodigal Son, I felt the older brother's distress on a spiritual level? Anybody else? What I've found is that self-righteousness is at the heart of being hard on others...and being hard on yourself. This episode we tackle the perspective that says “Jesus' blood may have gotten me in here, but now I work to keep myself”. It makes me tired just thinking about it. Listen in as we define what self-righteousness is, why it makes being a redeemed human harder than God ever intended, and how to take back your Blood-bought stance so that you can finally rest in your status as God's favorite.
Healthy living starts on the inside and we are taking it straight to the core with this episode on perfectionism. Perfectionism is the faulty belief that we can in some way be and attain flawlessness. What could possibly go wrong there? A whole lot. On this episode we examine how perfectionism is ill fitting armor that weighs us down way more than it could ever protect us. Listen in as we talk about embracing our humanness and finally allowing God's love to be enough.
Welcome back! Or should I welcome myself back? It's season three and better late than never. This episode is full of catch-ups and updates- where the podcast has been, where it's going, and why oh why did it take so long come back. It's been a wild ride but we are on this journey together. Welcome to Season 3 of the Walking Well Podcast loves!
For the last episode of 2018 and Season 2, we are preparing to get everything God has for us in the new year. Often times we shrink back from expecting the fullness of God's promises in our lives because disappointment, shame, or hopelessness are staring us in the face. However, that is just a tactic of the enemy. If he can discourage us, we never get to the place of believing God to receive what he already has on reserve for us. So here's to shutting disappointment up and securing the goods for 2019! Live well y'all!
Christians, we need to talk. It's time out for tolerating and ignoring trauma in our lives. The train wreck must be stopped. Believe it or not, Jesus came to do just that.
Many times we survive the abuses, hurts, and wounds of our past without getting real and serious healing. To think that these undressed hurts are effectively stuffed in the closet of our souls and don't impact our dominion in life or in God is to fool ourselves. In the words of the great Prophet Dj Khaled, "Congratulations you played yourself." He may not be a prophet, but you get my meaning.
Traumas can no longer be allowed to wreak havoc in our lives and generations. There's too much at stake. On this episode we dissect the winning trauma-butt kicking team: Jesus and counseling. Join us as we discuss how to say your prayers and take your meds as we wrap up 2018.
We have all done it. We have all at some point peered over the fence at somebody else's car, house, personality, physique, or life and felt that ours was not half as good as theirs. This is the demon of comparison.
Comparison poisons our ability to blossom while eating away at our personal sense of esteem and competency. In short, it wastes time. We aint got time to waste.
Today on the podcast we talk about how to finally beat comparison out of the game and how to finally start living our best life without comparing and competing with our siblings in the faith. Hop in!
Let's talk about the last quarter of the year and how it's here. Already. Remember those goals we set at the beginning of the year? How are those going? What kind of progress have you made? Are you killing it? If not, what's stopping you? What's keeping you from knocking those dreams and aspirations out of the park? We are talking about the things that are holding us back this month.
The first item on the chopping block is fear. So many of us struggle with so many fears. The fear of failure, rejection, disappointment, exposure, or not measuring up can tower over us daily.
Like most of you, I am no stranger to fear. It came knocking on my door early on in life. So I want to share with you the truth I learned about fear: it's just a punk-behind bully. Plain and simple. And as is the case with most bullies, fear only gets more belligerent and louder when we cower and hide. The solution for a bully though is just the same across the board- stand up and beat it back. Defy fear. On the other side of fear is liberation. When we break fear's back we find the good life God intended for us waiting to overtake us. So I invite you to listen in as we discuss strategies for beating fear at its own game and taking your greatness back.
