Unlike UCEED, the second round of design entrance exams like CEED, NID and NIFT requires the student to have a portfolio. The portfolio typically consists of 3-4 projects but the challenge is - How to decide which projects to include? How to make a design portfolio? What to include in a design project? Where to start and how many pages should each project contain? I talk about how to present a project in this episode, a framework that can be applied to projects from different domains, let it be bachelors or masters or any domain in masters. Listen to this episode and do reach out to me if you have any further questions.

Malvika Mohan AIR 4 | Animation, NID 2022 Malvika's interest in plots was piqued by narrative dances, graphic novels, and illustrations. As a classical dancer, studying body movements and expressions fascinated her. She enjoyed narrating storybooks to her friends and exploring their anticipation. Without school career counselling, she followed the tide and pursued engineering while also freelancing as an artist. Though late to the game, she hoped to learn Animation after graduation. Due to a personal tragedy and the Pandemic closing down on resources, she worked as an Engineer for one and a half years while honing her drawing skills after work hours. Now that she made it into NID for Masters's in Animation and Film Design, Malvika hopes to work in a pre-production design team of storytellers.

Vipul Sachdeva, a 3D designer based out of Delhi. He's been in the design space for the last 5 years and his work focuses on 3D stylized characters and motion designing.
Growing up, he was always fascinated by the world of animation and comics like Chacha Chaudhari, Pinki, etc. Not just for the entertainment value but fascinated by their capacity to communicate messages with simplicity. Their simplistic yet visually appealing style always stood out for him. The cinematic wonder of the Marvel universe then introduced him to a completely different render style which was realistic and extremely detailed. And that is what he has always strived to bring to his work using software such as Cinema 4D, Marvelous Designer, and After Effects. He aims to bring to the table the right blend of simplicity and complexity in a manner that resonates and lasts.

Whenever we think about Transportation Design all that comes to our mind are those crazy perspective sketches, dramatic photoshop renders, and alias models. We often design for the design briefs, but how does that design brief come into existence? Who creates those briefs for the automotive giants? What does the process of designing a brief involve?
In this episode, Harsh Agarwal talks about exactly that. He is a Masters in Transportation Systems and Design from Artcenter, California. He emphasizes the importance of User experience research in Transportations design. He talks about how he conducts multi-fold research and reaches a conclusion. Harsh also shares an interesting take on UX research and his experience at Volkswagen as a UX Designer.

A lot of dreams are in fact decisions. Decisions based on just enough faith. For Soundarya Gottapu, who intuitively always knew she had a knack for creative thinking, it was a series of failed "plans" that eventually built faith to give that intuition a form by taking up Fashion Designing. Four years into it and she discovered a genuine inclination towards illustrating garments more than making them, which then expanded into Illustrations of a wide array of subjects. In this episode we talk about shifting career paths, a few insights into the workings of the fashion industry, and how loving the process is what matters in the end, no matter what we do.

In India, we have design entrance exams like UCEED, CEED(Common entrance exam for design), NID(national institute of design) & NIFT(National Institute of Fashion Technology). With the little information available on how to prepare for these exams, the struggle is real to understand how exactly one should prepare for the said exams. Let it be a bachelor's in design or master's in design, not only must the student take at least one of these exams but also excel in it. Ashish Verma a Masters in design graduate from IISc Bangalore aka the Tata Institute, has worked as a Design Manager at Godrej, taught at a Design College, and currently a Bio-Design fellow at AIIMS, Delhi.
He secured an All India rank 10 in CEED'14 and got selected at IDC(Industrial Design Centre) IIT Bombay and IISc(Indian Institute of Science) Bangalore. Ashish has mentored countless students who went on to secure top ranks in these exams.
In this episode he shares some insights on the following:
How to prepare for NID, CEED, UCEED & NIFT?
How to manage time during NID, CEED, UCEED & NIFT?
What are the design exams looking for in students?
What are the resources that students can refer to while preparing for design exams?
What is the scope of Design in India?
Should you go for design education in 2020?
How is design of medical devices different from product design?

My name is Sanjay Reddy and I am an illustrator. I used to draw as a kid and I never thought I could make a living out of it. Back in the day, I did not have the exposure and guidance to explore my career options. I only came to know about design as a career option when I started my bachelors in engineering. I still remember the day I discovered it, I told my friends and parents that I can do a job where I will be paid to sketch. I can literally sketch in the office! That feeling was so good and strong that I started doing more research about it and came to know that there are design entrance exams - NID, U/CEED & NIFT. I didn't know how to prepare for these exams and I reached out to so many people and students who already appeared for these exams. But only a few of them replied and it was all very confusing. The biggest question was how to prepare for these exams and I had to figure everything out on my own. And even today I notice that there are students facing the same problems. The designers who cleared these exams are so busy with their work that they hardly find time to answer these questions. So I decided to start a podcast where I can address all the questions and also have edifying conversations with designers from different fields where we will be talking about interesting stories and trends in design. I hope to reach out to as many people as I can to share my passion for design. So please share this podcast with whoever you think might find it helpful
