Mortal Kombat 2021, film review - rDNA Podcast

MortalKombat #MortalKombat2021review #FilmReviews Mortal Kombat is a 2021 martial arts fantasy film based on the video game franchise of the same name and a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film series. The film stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Max Huang, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. It is directed by Simon McQuoid (in his feature directorial debut), from a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham and a screen story by Russo and Oren Uziel. The film follows Cole Young, a washed-up mixed martial arts fighter who is unaware of his hidden lineage or why assassin Sub-Zero is hunting him down. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm against Outworld. Following the critical and commercial failure of the 1997 film Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, a third Mortal Kombat film languished in development hell for a period of nearly two decades. In late 2010, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema (whose parent company acquired the franchise from Midway Games in 2009) began developing a new film, with Kevin Tancharoen serving as director from a script written by Uziel in the wake of their Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film. James Wan was announced as a producer in August 2015 and McQuoid was hired as director in November 2016. Production took place at Adelaide Studios in Adelaide and at other locations in South Australia. Principal photography occurred from September to December 2019. Mortal Kombat was released internationally on April 8, 2021, then in the United States on April 23, simultaneously in theaters in Dolby Cinema, IMAX and 4DX and on the HBO Max streaming service. The film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $83.6 million worldwide against a $55 million budget. It became HBO Max's most-successful film launch to date. A sequel is in development with Jeremy Slater set to write the screenplay.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is a 1997 American martial arts fantasy film directed by John R. Leonetti in his directorial debut from a screenplay by Brent V. Friedman and Bryce Zabel. Based on the Mortal Kombat video game franchise, it is the second installment in the Mortal Kombat film series and a sequel to the original 1995 film, of which Leonetti served as the cinematographer. Largely an adaptation of the video game Mortal Kombat 3 (1995), Annihilation follows Liu Kang and his allies as they attempt to stop the malevolent Shao Kahn from conquering Earthrealm. It stars Robin Shou as Liu, Talisa Soto as Kitana, James Remar as Rayden, Sandra Hess as Sonya Blade, Lynn Red Williams as Jax, and Brian Thompson as Kahn. Only Shou and Soto reprise their roles, with the rest of the characters recast from the previous film.

Released to theaters on November 21, 1997, Annihilation received largely negative reviews for its story, characters, and special effects. It was also a commercial failure, grossing $51 million against a $30 million budget. Due to the film's poor critical and commercial response, a direct sequel was cancelled. A third Mortal Kombat film languished in development hell for nearly two decades until the series was rebooted by a 2021 installment.

ResidentEvil #FilmReview #Podcast Resident Evil is an action-horror film series based on the Japanese video game franchise of the same name by Capcom. German studio Constantin Film bought the rights to adapt the series in January 1998. In 2001, Screen Gems acquired distribution rights and hired Paul W. S. Anderson as writer and director for Resident Evil (2002). Anderson continued as writer and producer for Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) and Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), and returned as the director for Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016). The first six films follow Alice (Milla Jovovich), a character created for the films. Alice is a former security specialist and covert operative who battles the Umbrella Corporation, whose bioweapons have triggered a zombie apocalypse. Characters from the games appear, including Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, Carlos Olivera, Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Barry Burton and antagonists Albert Wesker, the head of Umbrella Corporation, and James Marcus, Umbrella's top virologist. In 2021, a reboot film (the seventh in the film series) was made, titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Despite all the installments receiving generally negative reviews from critics, the Resident Evil film series has grossed $1.2bn to date and became the highest-grossing film series based on a video game in 2012. In this regard the series was overtaken at some point in the mid-2010s by the Pokémon film series, at $1.8bn globally as of 2021. It is also the highest-grossing zombie film series, and was the highest-grossing horror film series as of 2017. Broadcasted live on Twitch -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/doseofnerdacumen

SilentHillfilm #SilentHillRevelation #Podcast Silent Hill is a 2006 psychological horror film directed by Christophe Gans and written by Roger Avary, Gans, and Nicolas Boukhrief. The film is an adaptation of Konami's 1999 video game Silent Hill. It stars Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Deborah Kara Unger, Kim Coates, Tanya Allen, Alice Krige, and Jodelle Ferland. The film follows Rose, who takes her adopted daughter, Sharon, to the town of Silent Hill, for which Sharon cries while sleepwalking. Arriving at Silent Hill, Rose is involved in a car accident and awakens to find Sharon missing. While searching for her daughter, she fights a local cult and begins to uncover Sharon's connection to the town's dark past. Development of Silent Hill began in the early 2000s. After attempting to gain the film rights to Silent Hill for five years, Gans sent a video interview to Konami explaining his plans for adapting Silent Hill and how important the games are to him. Konami awarded him the film rights as a result. Gans and Avary began working on the script in 2004. Avary used Centralia, Pennsylvania as an inspiration for the town. Principal photography began in April 2005 and lasted three months with an estimated $50 million budget, and was shot on sound sets and on location in Ontario, Canada. The concept of the film is based on the idea of a city that exists in four different variations, presented in metaphysical, mystical and temporal aspects. Most of the monsters encountered in the film were played by professional dancers, only a few of them were created on the basis of computer graphics. Silent Hill was released in Canada on April 21, 2006, by Alliance Atlantis and in France on April 26, 2006, by Metropolitan Filmexport. The film theatrically grossed over $100 million worldwide, and over $22 million from DVD sales. It received generally negative reviews from critics, and Rotten Tomatoes summarized the response as "visually impressive, but as with many video game adaptations, it's plagued by inane dialogue, a muddled plot, and an overlong runtime". It earned four Fangoria Chainsaw Award nominations. A sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation, was released on October 26, 2012. Silent Hill: Revelation (also known as Silent Hill: Revelation 3D) is a 2012 psychological horror film written and directed by M. J. Bassett. A sequel to the 2006 film Silent Hill, it stars Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Martin Donovan, Malcolm McDowell and Carrie-Anne Moss, along with Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger and Radha Mitchell returning from the previous film. It is based on the survival horror video game Silent Hill 3 by Konami.[6] Revelation's plot follows adult Heather Mason (Clemens) who, discovering on the eve of her eighteenth birthday that her presumed identity is false, is drawn to an alternate dimension existing in the fictitious American town of Silent Hill. Talks for a Silent Hill sequel began in December 2006, with Christophe Gans returning to direct and Roger Avary writing a script for the project. However, after Gans dropped out from directing and Avary was imprisoned for vehicular manslaughter, the project entered in a complicated production. Later, in early 2010, Bassett was hired to direct and write the film, replacing Gans and Avary. She had expressed her openness to fans' suggestions of actresses for Heather's role. On a total estimated $20 million budget, filming lasted from March to May 2011 in Canada, with the 3D RED Epic camera used for the process; audio mixing took place in France. Silent Hill: Revelation was released in Canada on 26 October 2012 by Alliance Films and in France on 28 November 2012 by Metropolitan Filmexport. The film grossed over $56 million worldwide and was received negative reviews from critics.[5][7]

Sonic the Hedgehog, film review - rDNA Podcast

SonicMovieReview #SonictheHedgehog #SEGA Sonic the Hedgehog is a 2020 action-adventure comedy film directed by Jeff Fowler (in his feature directorial debut) and written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller based on the video game franchise of the same name published by Sega. It stars James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Neal McDonough, and Jim Carrey. It is the first installment in a planned Sonic the Hedgehog film series. The film follows Sonic the Hedgehog (voiced by Schwartz), a hedgehog who runs at supersonic speeds, teaming up with local town sheriff Tom Wachowski (Marsden) to stop the evil mad scientist Dr. Robotnik (Carrey), who seeks to use his superpowers to conquer the world. Development for a Sonic film began in the 1990s, but did not leave the planning stage until Sony Pictures acquired the rights in 2013. Production involved the collaboration of Sega Sammy's Japanese studio Marza Animation Planet, with Fowler brought in to direct in 2016. After Sony put the project in turnaround, Paramount Pictures acquired it in 2017. The majority of the cast signed on by August 2018, and principal filming took place between September and October that year in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. Following the negative reaction to the first trailer in 2019, the film's release was delayed by three months to redesign Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog premiered at the Paramount Pictures studio lot on January 25, 2020, and was theatrically released in the United States on February 14, 2020. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the Sonic character, action scenes, visual effects, the performances of Schwartz, Marsden and Carrey, and faithfulness to the source material, but criticized the film's lack of ambition, generic story and amount of product placements.[9] The film set the record for the biggest opening weekend for a video game film in the United States and Canada. It grossed $319.7 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2020 and the highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time in North America. A sequel, titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2, is scheduled for release on April 8, 2022. Broadcasted live on Twitch -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/doseofnerdacumen

Year2020 #2020inGaming #Podcast In the video game industry, 2020 saw the launch of the next generation of video game consoles, with both Microsoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment having released the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles, respectively, in November 2020. The industry was heavily affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which had begun in March and kept most people in lockdowns and working from home. While this caused numerous delays in software and hardware releases and the cancellation of live conferences and events in favor of virtual shows, it also created a boon for the industry as people turned to gaming as a means to pass the time. The industry also reacted to various policital/cultural events. Mobile gaming continued its growth as a major platform for video gaming; as part of this, Epic Games initiated lawsuits against Apple and Google over their mobile app store revenue cut policies. Major planned acquisitions included Xbox Game Studios' acquisition of ZeniMax Media and its subsidiaries, and Electronic Arts outbidding Take-Two Interactive for Codemasters.[1] Broadcasted live on Twitch -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/doseofnerdacumen

Year2019 #2019inGaming #Podcast In the video game industry during 2019, both Sony and Microsoft announced their intent to reveal their next-generation consoles in 2020, while Nintendo introduced a smaller Nintendo Switch Lite, and Google announced its streaming game platform Stadia. The controversy over loot boxes as a potential gambling route continued into 2019, with some governments like Belgium and the Netherlands banning games with them under their gambling laws, while the United Kingdom acknowledging their current laws prevent enforcing these as if they were games of chance. The first video cards to support real-time ray tracing were put onto the consumer market, including the first set of games that would take advantage of the new technology. The Epic Games Store continued its growth in challenging the largest digital PC game distribution service Steam, leading to concern and debate about Epic Games' methods to seek games for its service. Dota Auto Chess, a community-created mod for Dota 2, introduced a new subgenre of strategy games called auto battlers, which saw several games in the genre released throughout the year.[1] Blizzard Entertainment faced criticism due to their involvement in the Blitzchung controversy, which began after they had banned a Hearthstone player for making comments during a tournament regarding the 2019–20 Hong Kong protests. With Fortnite's success, Epic was able to establish the Epic Games Store for personal computers as a strong competitor to the dominant but criticized position held by Valve's Steam digital storefront by significantly increasing the revenue split it gave to developers. Additionally, with a number of major sudden studio closures, including Telltale Games, there was an increasing call for video game developers to unionize.[7] A nearly year-long freeze on video game approvals by the Chinese government had a major impact on publishers Tencent and NetEase, and is expected to impact future revenues in the industry.[8] Broadcasted live on Twitch -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/doseofnerdacumen

Year2017 #2017inGaming #Podcast 2017 saw the release of numerous video games as well as other developments in the video game industry. The Nintendo Switch console was released in 2017, which sold more than 14 million units by the end of 2017, exceeding the underperforming Wii U lifetime sales, and helped to revitalize Nintendo, alongside the "retro" Super NES Classic Edition console, the refreshed New Nintendo 2DS XL handheld, and a strategy for mobile gaming. Microsoft also released the higher-powered Xbox One X targeted for 4K resolutions and virtual reality support. Top-rated games in 2017 included The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, Divinity: Original Sin II, and Horizon Zero Dawn. One of the most influential games of 2017 was PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which was released in early access for personal computers in March 2017 and by the end of the year had sold 30 million units,[1] breaking several concurrent player count records and established the battle royale genre. The highest-grossing game of the year was the mobile game Honor of Kings, known as Arena of Valor internationally. Considerable debate was held over the use of loot boxes in video games and whether they constituted gambling, coming to a head with the release of Star Wars Battlefront II. New hardware came out as well, albeit largely refreshed and updated versions of consoles in the PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation 4 Slim, and Xbox One S. Commercially available virtual reality headsets were released in much greater numbers and at much lower price points than the enthusiast-only virtual reality headsets of earlier generations. Augmented reality also became mainstream with Pokémon Go.[1] Top-rated games originally released in 2016 included Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Inside, Overwatch, Forza Horizon 3, NBA 2K17, Dark Souls III, and Battlefield 1. The top five highest-grossing video games of 2016 were League of Legends, Honor of Kings/Arena of Valor, Monster Strike, Clash of Clans, and Dungeon Fighter Online. The Year 2014 in Gaming - The Dosage Podcast, Ep. 129

Year2014inGaming #Podcast #2014 The year 2014 saw a number of events in the video game industry. No new major consoles were released, but updates and upgrades were: the New Nintendo 3DS was released in Japan and Oceania, and Sony released new model 2000 PS Vita systems in Europe & North America. In video game-related corporate acquisitions, Amazon purchased the online video game streaming service Twitch, and Facebook acquired the virtual reality company and product Oculus. Nintendo released Amiibo in 2014, companion figurines that could be scanned by the 3DS and WiiU systems. On Twitter and other Internet social media, the Gamergate controversy began. Among video games originally released in 2014, critics gave the highest reviews to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Dark Souls II, Bayonetta 2, Shovel Knight, Velocity 2X, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mario Kart 8, and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. DetectivePikachuReview #Pokemon #Podcast Pokémon Detective Pikachu[c] is a 2019 mystery film directed by Rob Letterman. Based on the Pokémon franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri and serving as a loose adaptation of the 2016 video game of the same name,[6] it was written by Letterman, Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit and Derek Connolly, from a story by Hernandez, Samit and Nicole Perlman. The film was produced by Legendary Pictures in association with Toho. It is the first live-action Pokémon film,[7] as well as the first live-action film based on a Nintendo game property since Super Mario Bros. (1993). Ryan Reynolds stars as the voice and facial motion capture of Pikachu, with Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Suki Waterhouse, Omar Chaparro, Chris Geere, Ken Watanabe and Bill Nighy in live-action roles. The plot follows a former Pokémon Trainer Tim Goodman and the titular Pokémon as they attempt to uncover the mysterious disappearance of Tim's father, Harry. Filming took place from January to May 2018 in Colorado, England and Scotland. Detective Pikachu was released in Japan on May 3, 2019[8][9] and in the United States on May 10, 2019, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures in RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX formats.[10] It is the first Pokémon film to be distributed theatrically in the United States since Pokémon Heroes (2003) and the first to be distributed by Warner Bros. since Pokémon 3 (2001). The Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus calls it an "offbeat adaptation" that should appeal to fans. The film has a worldwide gross of $433 million. It is the second highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time behind Warcraft, another film produced by Legendary Pictures. "Inside", Bo Burnham review - mRNA Podcast

BoBurnamInsideReview #BoBurnham #Inside "Inside", Bo Burnham review - mRNA Podcast Bo Burnham: Inside is a 2021 American special written, directed, filmed, edited by, and starring Bo Burnham. Recorded in the guest house of his home during the COVID-19 pandemic without a crew or audience, it was released on Netflix on May 30, 2021. It features a variety of songs and sketches about his day-to-day life indoors; he depicts his deteriorating mental health and explores themes of performativity and his relationship to his audience. Other songs are about internet activities including calling one's mother on FaceTime, taking photos for Instagram, sexting, and video game streaming. It follows his previous special Make Happy (2016), a recording of a stand-up tour during which Burnham began to experience panic attacks. Inside was released on May 30, 2021, and an album of songs from the special, Inside (The Songs), was released digitally on June 10, 2021. The special received critical acclaim, with reviewers praising its music, cinematography, and presentation of life in the pandemic. Critics found that the special incorporates a variety of art forms including music, stand-up comedy bits, and meta-commentary, describing it as some combination of comedy, drama, documentary, and theater.

We are somewhat new to the Podcast world and would love some feedback. Currently our show “The Dosage”, has transitioned from a weekly video show, to an actual Podcast show. We have a variety of themes, mostly relating to Video Games and the industry. Some of our highlighted works include a 10 episode series on culture of the 1990’s. Currently we have been discussing the current gen “war” and our favorite things from each console.

Please take a moment to follow us on one of the following platforms, as we’d love any and all feedback! Chat with us during our live show, with our Twitch link below. Follow and turn on notifications. Thank you for taking the time to check this out.
